July 15, marks the start of the PBS Short Film Festival. The festival is designed to increase the visibility of independent films, and for the 11th straight year in a row, a film nominated by Louisiana Public Broadcasting has made the list. This year's film, The Ballad of Rose Mae, is a musical drama by Baton Rouge filmmakers Gray Fagan and Bailey Wax. They join us now for more on their filmmaking journey and partnership that began in a high school acting class. If you're a Louisianan spending time in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, you might be surprised to find someone familiar with where you grew up. At least that was the case for three players on the Saskatoon Berries of the Western Canadian baseball league when they discovered they're all from the Bayou State. Ethan Menard of Opelousas, Dominic Archila of Houma, and Bailyn Sorensen of Rayville not only all call Louisiana home, but they all play the same position: catcher. They join us from Canada to tell us more about bringing a taste of Louisiana to Saskatoon.___Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Karen Henderson. THE WORLD IN 14 FILMS-Festival in Berlin. Demnach: Peace. Und bis zum nächsten Mal. Rocket Beans wird unterstützt von Tchibo.

Actor, director, & producer Román Zaragoza currently stars in CBS' award nominated comedy series “Ghosts.” Zaragoza instantly became a fan favorite as Sasappis, a blunt troublemaker who tries to fill eternity by having a little fun & creating some drama. The series debuted on CBS in October 2021 to critical acclaim, with media calling it “charming” (Paste Magazine), stating that a “CBS comedy about the diverse spirits haunting an upstate manor is scary good” (The Wall Street Journal) & declaring that “it's a superb cast full of fresh faces dropping quotable one-liners left & right” (TVLine). The Television Critics Association Awards also h&ed the comedy two nominations: Outst&ing New Program, & Outst&ing Achievement in Comedy in 2022. “Ghosts” premiered season two on September 29, 2022. In film Zaragoza serves as a producer on the short “This Is Their Land,” which premiered at the Dances with Films Festival in New York City on December 2, 2022. The film takes place during the Modoc War of 1872-73, follows the brave Modoc Civic Leader Captain Jack as he negotiates for peace in his homeland against the U.S. army, & the sacrifices he makes for the sake of his people. “This Is Their Land” is currently on the festival circuit. As a director Zaragoza most recently co-directed a music video entitled “Change Your Name” for artist Raye Zaragoza, one of his two sisters, which was inspired by their mother's life & the intersectionality of changing names during the immigration process. Born in New York City, Zaragoza was raised in a melting pot of culture. He identifies as mixed race, being of Akimel O'otham & Mexican descent on his father's side & Japanese & Taiwanese descent on his mother's side. His father, acclaimed actor Gregory Zaragoza & mother, college business professor Shirley supported Zaragoza's love for the arts from a very young age, with one of his earliest childhood memories spending time backstage watching his father star in the 1999 Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun, alongside the legendary Bernadette Peters. Zaragoza & his family moved to Hell's Kitchen when he was nine, where he would take the subway to school & pass by all of the major Broadway shows, which would become a huge influence on his future career. By the time Zaragoza turned eleven, his parents moved the family to the west coast, settling in southern California where he continued taking acting, dance, singing, & improv lessons. When Zaragoza was fifteen, he began working with Native Voices at the Autry, the only Equity Native American Theatre company. It was there that he met his mentor, R&y Reinholz, who made an influential impact on Zaragoza's life as well his show “Off the Rails” at Native Voices which was later selected to go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Zaragoza attended Cal State University Northridge where he graduated with a degree in Film Production. He is a proud member of CSUN's American Indian Student Association & continues his involvement post-graduation. While in college, he took time to go work with the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF - 2017, 2018, 2019) where he was able to further hone his craft. Zaragoza notes that his time working with the company aided in discovering more about his identity, specifically his racial identity, bringing characters to life that were a vessel for Native, Asian, & mixed identities. Upon graduation & finishing his time with OSF, Zaragoza landed his biggest role to date, starring on CBS' “Ghosts.” Zaragoza writes essays & poetry focusing on mixed representation in film, television, & theatre. On the charity front Zaragoza has supported a h&ful of organizations over the years including Seeding Sovereignty, Black Lives Matter, Return to the Heart Foundation, & IllumiNative, an initiative created & led by Natives to challenge the negative narrative that surrounds Native communities & ensure accurate & authentic portrayals of Native communities are present in pop culture & media.

For most of human history, we were closely connected to the earth, spending a great deal of time barefoot and in physical contact with nature. However, around 1960, the use of plastics in shoes, carpets, and other products started to become widespread, thereby creating a barrier between our bodies and the earth.  Over the past six decades, another trend has emerged: a significant increase in autoimmune disorders and other inflammation-related health conditions. While the two trends may not initially seem to be related, several studies have indicated that by re-establishing our physical connection with the earth through a practice called “grounding” (or earthing), we may be able to reduce inflammation and access a wide variety of benefits.  After health challenges drove him to retire from his career in the cable TV industry at age 54, Clint Ober embarked on a journey to heal his body and find a higher purpose in life. Recalling his childhood in the 1950s – when spending time barefoot was far more common – Clint began to explore how the disruption in our natural state of being grounded to the earth could impact our health. In Episode 90 of The MINDSet Game® podcast, Clint discusses: The science behind grounding and how physical contact with the earth affects various processes in the body, thereby reducing inflammation, alleviating pain and stress, and enhancing overall well-being How various studies conducted on subjects ranging from premature babies to elite athletes have demonstrated the power of grounding Practices and products that can help you incorporate grounding into your daily life To learn more about grounding or to purchase the products that Clint recommends, visit https://www.ultimatelongevity.com. "Everything But Fear", a short documentary about the life of renowned NYC boxing trainer Francisco Mendez, will be part of this year's Dances With Films festival August 26-September 12 at Hollywood's famed TCL Chinese Theatres. Produced and directed by Bryan TwZ Brousseau, an award-winning filmmaker based in New York City, "Everything But Fear" will tell the story of Mendez, a Mexican immigrant, who rose from humble beginnings to open one of the country's most famous boxing gyms in New York City. Tenemos todo menos miedo – we have everything but fear – is a phrase that inspired Francisco in his dream to create a premier training facility that centered around hard work, family, and united the community of boxers under his guidance. The boxing community was stunned when the legendary trainer and mentor died of COVID-19 during the shutdown of NYC in 2020. SYNOPSIS Everything But Fear is a short documentary about Francisco Mendez, a renowned boxing trainer and founder of Mendez Boxing, New York City's premier boxing gym. Tenemos todo menos miedo – we have everything but fear – is a phrase that guided Francisco from rural Mexico to 26th Street in Manhattan, and this film is a testament to everything that he achieved as well as what the New York City boxing community lost when he died of COVID-19. Mendez Boxing is located a few blocks from Madison Square Garden and welcomes new boxers, amateurs, and professionals. It's also where some of the best trainers in boxing work, and this combination of personalities, skill levels, and styles has made Mendez Boxing one of the best boxing gyms in the country. As a trainer, Francisco taught a traditional, Mexican style of boxing, which was to keep moving forward in the ring. From training countless fighters, to building his gym, to beating cancer, Francisco always kept moving. Everything But Fear shows how one man rose from humble beginnings to establish a name that will always be associated with hard work, family, and the community of boxing.

As a writer/writer, he's currently developing two TV shows. As an actor, you can see him in MGM's upcoming The Baxters as Dr. Peter West, as well as Brooklyn 99, Lucifer, and many other tele-visual programs. Somehow evidently, he is also an award-winning poet and a painter. He is also very skilled at mailing random parcels to people.

Almost everyone now suffers from an inflammation-related health disorder. There are several common inflammation related health disorders ranging from fibromyalgia to diabetes to MS to Alzheimers just to name a few.  Chronic inflammation is a causative factor of pain and aggravating factor for virtually all chronic and aging-related diseases. The primary Earthing hypothesis is that connecting the body to the Earth will quickly enable free electrons from the Earth’s surface to spread throughout the body, where they exert powerful antioxidant/anti-inflammatory/analgesic effects. For those who ground themselves to the earth; the results are self-evident, the pain subsides, and within minutes the internal electrical stability of the body is restored, calmed, and the immune system begins to repair the damage and maintain health. Join me as I speak with Clint Ober, author of “Earthing, The Most Important Health Discovery Ever!” who has promoted over twenty peer-reviewed and published (Find the on PubMed) research studies on the physiological effects of grounding the human body.  Listen in on this show to learn low to no-cost ways to become grounded. In addition, this week's episode will be centered around female-driven comedies in celebration of Late Night and will feature a preview of the Dances with Films Festival taking place next week in Los Angeles. Debbie Lynn Elias @moviesharkd Carla Renata Twitter: @TheCurvyCritic Katie Kilkenny Twitter: @katiekilkenny7 Presenting LAOFCS Weekly, where members of the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society come together to discuss new topics of the weeks, the movies you may have missed but need to check out, and reveal insider information of the film and journalism industry. Join host Scott Menzel with a rotating panel of members of the LAOFCS as they bring you into the inner circle with heightened discussion and knowledge. Each week, the show will feature four weekly segments which include: -Movie Pick of The Week - A weekly vote of all films being released in Los Angeles that week. -Independent Spotlight - A weekly Indie film suggestion from each member on the panel. The film can be playing in theaters, on-demand, or various streaming services. -Retro Rewind - A weekly recommendation of an older release that is currently available on streaming, DVD, or Blu-Ray. -Special Topic - Each week there will be a special conversation about something going on the industry or something that ties into this week's episode. Who are the LAOFCS? Los Angeles is the home of Hollywood and the film industry. There are hundreds of critics in the Los Angeles area and yet there was only one critic's circle. San Francisco, New York, Austin, and all other major cities throughout the USA have an online critics group but not Los Angeles. We wanted to change that and therefore launched the Los Angeles Film Critics Society (LAOFCS) at the end of 2016. By creating this group, they wanted to ensure that the members of their society are reflective of those who reside in the city of Los Angeles. Diversity is very important in film criticism and they want to make sure that all voices are represented within our group. They also want to embrace members that are finding new ways to criticize film whether that be through video, podcasts, or on social media. Over the next few years, the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society is hoping to redefine what it means to be part of a film critics group by having a year-round presence. Most film critic circles at the end of each year begin to appear to discuss their favorite films of the year. They wanted to create a film critics group that would openly discuss film throughout the year and not just during award season.

HOLLYWOOD, May 21, 2018 - In the style of such romantic musicals as “La La Land” and “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, writer-director Chris Wright will screen “The Way It Begins” at the 21st Annual Dances With Films at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:45PM. “The Way It Begins” stars Robert Roldan (So You Think You Can Dance, La La Land) and Jessica Lee Keller (Adjustment Bureau, Now You See Me 2), as two strangers who cross paths on a train, and they end up spending the day together, dancing through the beautiful city of New York and moving one step closer to finding love. There is no dialogue in the film. The emotional journey of the two characters is conveyed through music and dance. The charming and whimsical film is part of the Downbeat: A Celebration of Music and Dance program. Chris Wright is a respected Visual Effects Supervisor on several television series, including “Luke Cage”, “The Punisher”, “Person of Interest” and the award-winning sci-fi series “Fringe.” “This movie came out of my love of old Hollywood musicals and was directly inspired by the holiday classic, “White Christmas.” I wanted to tell a story about two people finding each other and explore what the range of emotions would look like if expressed only through movement and music. I wanted to show their journey of emotional exploration set in one of the most exciting and beautiful cities in the world, New York City. This movie is not only a story about two people falling in love but also a love letter to New York itself,” says Wright. “The Way It Begins” was produced by Jeremy Horn, Carlee Briglia, Steven Carbajal, and Chris Wright. The original score was composed by Alan Koshiyama and was lovingly filmed by Cinematographer Rachael Levine.
