We kicked episode 6 with a track called ‘Burning For You' a cover of a great track by Blue Öyster Cult, very well done here by Iced Earth.  The show then got heavy with Killswitch Engage and Annihilator,  with ‘Desperate Times' and 'Set the World On Fire' respectively.   Both of these fall into the TSORR Songs that could be about South Africa category.  Accept and Sinner gave us a taste of German metal and then we had Thundermother out of Sweden.  There was a great little SA music segue early in the show where we checked out Jack Hammer Band with a pre-released track called 'As I Turn Away' and then a band out of Sekunda called Pilgrim South.  Their new track 'Old Man Moonshine went down well.  From there we were into familiar territory with Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Def Leppard.  my love affair with Def Leppard's Mutt Lange produced Hi 'N' Dry album continues, we listened to 'Lady Strange'. Manic Street Preachers and a new-ish band I am not too familiar with called St. Aurora changed the pace a bit and then we started to delve into this week's Ultimate Challenge, 4 albums released in 1980 and you can only choose one.  The albums selected were Judas Priest - British Steel, Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell, Motörhead -  Ace of Spades, and ACDC - Back in Black.  the votes came in but in the end, it was one-way traffic with the winner of this week's Ultimate Challenge going to Back In Black.  The Immortal track was Gun ‘n' Roses with Estranged and we kept our punk confined to the USA with Iggy Pop, The Distillers, and Weezer.  I had some problems with Brody Dalle squashed in the middle.  This week I discovered Doomsday Outlaw, this track called ' Is This The End of Everything' features the kind of guitar tone and phrasing that I absolutely love.  Talking guitar, a track off the new Winery Dogs with Richie Kotzen, Bily Sheehan, and Mike Portnoy hit the stop.  Girish and the Chronicles are just simply blazing, what a band.  We ended heavy with Ablaze My Sorrow off their new EP, and Phantom Days by Dark Tranquility.  Oh, one last thing TSORR made No 12 on the list of top 35 Rock Podcasts on the planet, check it out right here:https://blog.feedspot.com/rock_and_roll_podcasts/?feedid=5328472Artists Featured:  Iced Earth, Killswitch Engage, Annihilator, Bullets & Octane, Deaf Havana, Accept, Thundermother, Five Finger Death Punch, Sinner, Theory of a Deadman, The Cult, Alabama 3, Godsmack, Ozzy Osbourne, Jack Hammer Band, Pilgrim South, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Def Leppard, Adrenaline Mob, Manic Street Preachers, St. Aurora, Black Sabbath, Dan Patlansky, Hinder, Motörhead, Winery Dogs, Black Veil Brides, Guns ‘n' Roses, Iggy Pop, The Distillers, Weezer, Doomsday Cowboy, Girish & the Chronicles, ACDC, Ablaze My Sorrow, Dark TranquillityThe Story of Rock and Roll. Friends, it has been a time. Oh yes. It has been a time. But hey, considerably later than I intended to publish this episode, here's episode 48 of this here music podcast – recorded on my guests birthday no less! – a conversation with James Veck-Gilodi from British pop rock champs Deaf Havana, a band who are in every way possible, returning harder, faster, stronger… and dryer too. Which is great news. I've thought that James was one of this country's very best songwriters for years now and I couldn't be happier to learn that he's found the tools needed to make good on the promise that has always been there. There's some harrowing stuff in this episode. Drink and the pressures of making a living through creativity can do that to you. But James' story doesn't end in the gutter, but – to paraphrase that old hack Oscar Wilde – looking up, and reaching for the stars. In advance of the band's – now a two piece – forthcoming 6th album proper, The Present Is a Foreign Land, out July 15th, meet James Veck-Gilodi V2.0. (NB: I obviously call the record The Past Is a Foreign Land in the episode intro because I'm a fucking idiot, but you know this about me and this podcast, and I think it's why you like it.)The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Thanks for joining me for this weeks episode of One For The Road. This week I am joined by James Veck-Gilodi from the English alternative rock band Deaf Havana. After many years battling alcohol and substance addiction, in 2020 after the break down of his marriage and his relationship with his brother in ruins, Deaf Havana decided to call it a day and walk away. They booked shows to cover their remaining debts and after that, Deaf Havana would be finished. Then COVID happened. The shows were cancelled, and the band didn't have to think about their future for a long time. It took until April 2021 after several failed attempts, for James to take the leap and attend an AA meeting and he has been sober ever since. On this weeks episode James shares with us what that journey looked like for him, and how by removing just one thing from his life, alcohol, he was able to rebuild the damaged relationships and breathe new life into Deaf Havana once more, as the band re grouped and created a brand new album within three weeks. If you enjoy One For The Road, then click follow to be notified of the release of our next episode. If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice, and links for James.Instagram @deafhavanaTwitter @deafhavanahttps://alcoholchange.org.uk/https://www.wearewithyou.org.uk/https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-Martinezhttps://www.grownuphustle.com/Instagram - @TheDaniellaMartinez@GrownupHustle See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Brand new eposide out now!   Dead Reynolds ASCENDING ANTHEMIC ROCK QUINTET SET LOOSE NEW SINGLE & REVEAL DEBUT ALBUM PLANS! Fast rising modern rockers, DEAD REYNOLDS, are poised to climb even further with the release of their ultra-hooky new single, Bright Lights, out now Check out Bright lights https://youtu.be/HESGPSkc0aE . This killer cut has been taken from the band's hugely anticipated debut album, Breathe With Strangers, which arrives on Friday 20th August via Fort Records.   Ever since their explosion onto the scene at the end of 2018, DEAD REYNOLDS have gone from strength to strength. To date, the energetic fivesome have assembled an army of dedicated followers and earned the respect and praise from a plethora of tastemakers. The band have racked up widespread support for their recorded work, including last year's sophomore EP, Frontier, which received buoyant accolades from Powerplay Magazine and Louder/Classic Rock Magazine. The release also gained extensive recognition from the likes of Maximum Volume Music, Moshville, Real Gone, Devils Gate Music, and The Punk Site, to name just a few. As well as obtaining broad acclaim for their previous EPs, the band have also notched up airtime with Kerrang! TV and Scuzz TV. DEAD REYNOLDS have also been repeatedly pioneered by Kerrang Radio's Johnny Doom, with Johnny consistently championing the band's singles and releases. Not only have DEAD REYNOLDS been regularly playlisted by Kerrang Radio, but the Brit anthemic rockers have also picked up worldwide radio airplay across fifteen countries, and have been played by more than two hundred radio stations. Sharing stages with everyone from Deaf Havana, Mallory Knox, and Mark Morriss (The Bluetones), as well as their own headline shows, has certainly increased their profile. The band's Spotify streaming numbers also demonstrate their notable growth (Dead Reynolds' last EP, Frontier, is up to 100k plays and counting).   DEAD REYNOLDS are now set to break out to the masses. The band will release their debut album, Breathe With Strangers, in August. The Brit modern rock crew are also primed to drop their massively captivating new single, Bright Lights. The track is an infectious piece of contagious alt-rock laced with thoughtful breakdowns, a huge refrain, and a modern tilt which demonstrates that the five-piece are unafraid to twist and reshape their sound. Further singles and video releases are planned throughout the Spring and Summer, so watch out. DEAD REYNOLDS are destined to be one of the bands to breakthrough in 2021.   Dead Reynolds links www.twitter.com/dead_reynolds www.facebook.com/DeadReynolds/ www.instagram.com/dead_reynolds/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/7pAkErb3vLY5dgghk9zmqf https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX5fAPAYK3EA-J76zhRMWIA   Thank you to SaN PR my thoughts Bright Lights Only one way to start the review for this track, for me bright lights is epic, it feels like its already arena written, great melody and hooks in the, guitars with a real drive and punch and I love the tones, most of all the sense this track picks up the intensity and pace really high octane energy coming off this track Our next single this week is Toby Jepson   Toby Jepson found fame as the frontman/Singer/songwriter for British Rock Band Little Angels who achieved significant success in the UK, Europe and Japan Between 1989 and 1995. Today we know Toby for being a part of the incredible band Wayward sons   'Unwind' is the lead single taken from Wayward Sons and former Little Angels frontman Toby Jepson's forthcoming compilation album 'Viewfinder'.   Originally featured on his 2001 'Refresh' EP and remastered for the retrospective release 'Viewfinder' by Simon Francis (Toby and the Whole Truth 'Ignorance Is Bliss'); 'Unwind' is an up tempo contemporary rock song that's perfectly suited to lift moods and still remains fresh to the ears 20 years on.   Toby reflects on the making of 'Unwind' and 'Viewfinder' album in a new series of story videos, which further reveal what happened to the British singer/song writer between Little Angels splitting up and the formation of Wayward Sons:   .Check out the video for 'Unwind': https://youtu.be/xM6cHxbYTF8   . 'Viewfinder': https://youtu.be/mbMZKs3ixjU   'Viewfinder' is officially released on the 12th March 2021 via Jepsongs Recordings.   Toby Jepson Social links https://www.tobyjepsonofficial.com https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKYqWet2jpPHLa5bS5eEA6g https://www.facebook.com/tobyjepsonofficial/ https://twitter.com/TobyJepson https://www.instagram.com/therealtobyjepson/     My thoughts Toby Jepson Unwind Another high octane track to carry on the show with, Unwind as I have said is high octane lots of energy and thing I have picked out straight away that I love is this pop punk feel, it feels like a classic new found glory and by no means is this meat as insult to toby or new found glory. Its catchy plenty of hooks and packed with melody, a really catchy fun track to go into the weekend with Thank you to Rob - Stampede Press   Just a couple of Questions Does anyone feel the time is approaching say in 2 months to start thinking about attending shows? When to Look for a Manager and How They Can Help (feat. Jamie Osman of Easy Life Records)

Music Made Me: the TuneCore Podcast

Nathan Barley Phillips in the TuneCore London office speaks with Jamie Osman, a manager with Red Light Management and the founder of Easy Life records, about when artists should look for a manager and what exactly a manager can offer to new and established musicians. Starting as a local promoter in Buckinghamshire in 2005, Jamie Osman was a 16-year-old who just wanted to put on gigs for his mates. By 2008, he was running shows in six venues across the county putting on bands such as You Me At Six, Bring Me The Horizon, and Enter Shikari creating a bubbling community for rock music in an otherwise sleepy area. At age 19, Jamie ventured into management signing a small UK rock act called Deaf Havana. Within four years, they had signed to BMG, sold 100,000 albums, and sold out the prolific Shepherds Bush Empire and London Round House. This led onto similar success with UK rock act Lower Than Atlantis who went on to sell out Brixton Academy and sell 150,000 albums globally. With a growing roster of acts, Jamie partnered with the global management giant Red Light in 2013. Helping to set up the U.K office. In 2014 he opened Easy Life records in conjunction with Sony, an independent rock label which has gone on to sell over 150,000 albums in three years. With seven top 40's and numerous radio 1 playlists, it's been an exceedingly successful venture going independent in 2017 to offer artists more flexible global deals. Coupling management with the label has enabled Jamie to be forward facing in an ever changing business leading him to win Music Week's 30 under 30 at age 25. With a continually growing business within Red Light that now includes Marshmello, Bastille, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Everything Everything, Oh Wonder, Interpol, Lower Than Atlantis, and more, Red Light management goes from strength to strength with seven offices across the globe. With a career spanning nearly 14 years, despite just yet being 30, Jamie has also lectured Music Management and Marketing at Bucks Uni as well as being a panelist on numerous music industry events across Europe. Welcome back! In this week’s episode, we tackle two favourites of ours; Devin Townsend Project’s Epicloud and Deaf Havana’s Old Souls. There is a vast amount of digression from both these albums, as usual, we hope you can tolerate this and Romy’s habitual ranking blathering. Apologies for any slurring/stumbling/stuttering; this was recorded at 9am after a rather heavy night and thus our abilities to speak were slightly hindered… Recommendations - Dream Theater’s The Astonishing, Rick’s cover of Mulan, The Big Short, Arrested Development and the Raw Meat All-Dayer at Belgrave/Headrow Headrow House (including The Xcerts, God Damn, Brawlers and many more). Correction - the song Romy was talking about was Subterranean Homesick Blues, by the mighty Bob Dylan (and not Springsteen...) You can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes if you so desire (and rate/review us too if you’re feeling super generous!), and is also available on Overcast, Stitcher and TuneIn. iTunes - itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/first…d1079801210?mt=2 Overcast - https://overcast.fm/itunes1079801210/first-impressions Stitcher - http://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=82642&refid=stpr TuneIn - http://tunein.com/radio/First-Impressions-p831744/ Please direct any questions/thoughts/abuse (please don’t abuse us, we’re very sensitive souls) to one of us, Soundcloud or our email, podcastfirstimpressions@gmail.com. Next week’s albums: Machine Head’s The Blackening and Jack’s Mannequin’s Everything in Transit

Hello and welcome back to First Impressions. This week, we talk about Ayreon’s “Universal Migrator, Pt. I & II” & The Wonder Years’ “The Greatest Generation”, and of course, deviate off topic, talking about narrative content of albums vs. musical content and whether the length of an album can hinder your opinion of it, amongst other topics! You can now subscribe to the podcast on iTunes if you so desire (and rate/review us too if you’re feeling super generous!)by following this link https://t.co/0O5b71ekGf, and the podcast should be up on various Android podcast apps soooooon. Please direct any questions/thoughts/abuse (please don’t abuse us, we’re very sensitive souls) to one of us, Soundcloud or our email, podcastfirstimpressions@gmail.com. Next week’s albums: Devin Townsend Project’s “Epicloud” & Deaf Havana’s “Old Souls”. This is going to be a good one.
