All the comics are out today. Ever.OK, not all of them, but there are six books out today, including four from Dark Horse Comics -- The High Republic Adventures Phase III #14, The HIgh Republic Adventures 2025 Annual, Echoes of Fear #4 (of 4) and Dispatches From the Occlusion Zone #4 (of 4). Hello to you listening in Trenton, Ontario, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Have you ever wondered about the power of storytelling as medicine? Recently I shared the mic with my Canadian friend, colleague, and podcaster, Elizabeth Nicholas of Your Employment Detective podcast to reveal some answers. Imagine that you are struggling with self-doubt, instability, or just plain frustrated. Where to look for help? Meaningful clues to help you can be found in your very own story so you can take your next great step. Together, Elizabeth and I went on a metaphorical journey gaining deeper insights into the power of story to heal and show us the way much like a lighthouse guides ships at sea. Let's get started because as always, the clues await.Highlights✓ How your WHO (who you are) precedes your WHY (the mission or purpose of your life);✓ The importance of marrying story content and context;  ✓ Teaching yourself the power of storytelling;✓ Elizabeth's “ah ha!” that our stories are far more powerful than we tend to give them credit for; and✓ The radically human need for the art and craft of storytelling in today's world.Click HERE to listen to our podcast conversation on Spotify  OR here => https://open.spotify.com/episode/2JUqPIPgRgSn2ofPCKpSo3Get in Touch With Elizabeth Nicholas  BIOElizabeth Nicholas, CHRP/CHRL, CCDP, CHATP, Career Specialist and host of Your Employment Detective, a podcast for Military and Veteran Spouses seeking to solve their career mysteries. ADDITIONAL HISTORY: Headlines You Probably Missed

In honor of Flag Day this week, I decided to make an episode about something written in honor of the flag of the United States of America--The Star Spangled Banner. Why was it written and when was it officially adopted as out national anthem? And, as always, I have three great additional history stories that go along with the famous date. The engraved image has Osiris on a Lion Couch bed, with his feet APART and his Hand in front of his mouth. What is its meaning? The Sun is a major figure in Cherokee mythology; the world depends upon her light and warmth, but is at the mercy of her brutal heat when she is slighted by her brother, the Moon. In this story, recorded from the Eastern Band of Cherokee in the late 19th century, a plan to stop the Sun from burning the world leads to the death of her daughter, and a plan to bring her back from the Ghost Country. Common characters to Native American mythology including the Great Horned Serpent appear in a tale with strong connections to the natural world and Cherokee history. There was in 2nd Century BC Egypt an indisputable multicultural sharing of religious ideas between Jews, Greeks, and Egyptians. How should that fact influence how we evaluate Joseph Smith's interpretations of the Abraham facsimiles in general and individual hieroglyphics on the facsimiles specifically?  On a related note, some of Joseph's descriptions of Facsimile #2 contain temple themes, saying more will be revealed about those in the temple. Can Egyptologists today read those hieroglyphs? And are they actually connected in any way to what we learn about in our modern temples?  Also, Dr. Robert Ritner is an Egyptologist who has critiqued LDS scholarship on the Book of Abraham. Has he been adequately responded to?  And finally, what are the top three most solid intellectual evidences for the book of Abraham having ancient connections which Joseph Smith could not have known about? In today's episode of Church History Matters, we dive into all of these questions and more with Dr. Kerry Muhlestein, an Eyptologist and scholar on the Book of Abraham.  For show notes and transcript for this and other episodes go to https://doctrineandcovenantscentral.org/church-history-matters-podcast/

In Joseph Smith's interpretations of the facsimiles found in our Pearl of Great Price he ties all three of them to Abraham; yet, when some modern Egyptologists look at those same facsimiles today they say they have nothing to do with Abraham: one is simply an embalming scene, one a disk representing the eye of Horus, and one a judgment scene from an Egyptian book of the dead. So, is this an either or, sudden-death scenario? Must we, in the name of honesty and rationality, pick a side? Must we either throw out modern Egyptologists by choosing to stand with the prophet Joseph on the one hand, or throw out Joseph by choosing to align with modern Egyptologists on the other? Or is there a reconciliatory third path in which both interpretations can be true at the same time?   In this episode of Church History Matters, we tackle this important question by looking at some of the best scholarship on the issue. And on our way, we'll also briefly look at something called the Kirtland Egyptian papers and discuss a minor controversy associated with those.    For show notes and transcript for this and other episodes go to https://doctrineandcovenantscentral.org/church-history-matters-podcast/

Royal Irish Academy Library in association with the Maynooth University Department of Early Irish, and the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. The Royal Irish Academy manuscript An Leabhar Breac/The Speckled Book was written in Irish by Murchadh Riabhach Ó Cuindlis (a scribe of the Book of Lecan), at Cluain Lethan in Múscraige Tíre, in north Co. Tipperary and at other locations, between the years 1408 and 1411. In the 16th century the manuscript was held by the Mac Egans of Duniry, the most prominent of the hereditary legal families of late medieval Ireland, whence it also received the title of Leabhar Mór Dúna Doighre/The Book of the MacEgans. It is the largest Irish vellum manuscript created by one scribe and contains religious and biblical material derived from Latin, Irish literature and history, including the lives of St Patrick and St Brigid, the Litany of Our Lady, Félire Óengusso Céli Dé, the humorous saga Aisling Meic Conglinne, and some reworkings of biblical history. This two-day conference will explore the historical, ecclesiastical, literary and illustrative aspects of An Leabhar Breac, this most impressive example of a predominantly religious manuscript compilation in the Irish vernacular.

According to the late Father Gabrielle Amorth, co-founder of the International Association of Exorcists, Hitler, Stalin, ISIS, Harry Potter and Yoga were all, in one way or another, touched by demonic influence, This does perhaps go some way towards explaining how he managed to rack up over 150,000 exorcisms throughout his long life. Of all of these cases, however, he admitted openly that only a small minority had been true, legitimate cases of demonic possession. Despite this, exorcism remains more popular today than in any other time in history, where it has existed as a long running ritual spanning centuries, continents and cultures. From personal demons to group possessions, humans battle with the Devil is a long, winding history of violence, perversion and projectile vomit. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 9, 2022 is: facsimile • fak-SIM-uh-lee • noun A facsimile is an exact copy of something. The word is also used to refer to a system of transmitting and reproducing graphic matter, such as printed text or photos. // The forged painting was an impressive facsimile of the original. See the entry > Examples: “Walls are now decorated with posters and murals of facsimiles of old newspapers that tell the tales of the team's big moments.” — Carlos Monarrez, The Detroit Free Press, 29 July 2022 Did you know? The facsimile machine (or fax machine) has long been an office staple, but its name is much, much older. Fac simile is a Latin phrase meaning “make alike.” English speakers began using facsimile to mean “an exact copy” in the late 1600s. In this sense, a facsimile might be a handwritten or hand-drawn copy, or even a copy of a painting or statue. (Today, we also use the phrase “a reasonable facsimile” for a copy that is fairly close but not exact.) In the 1800s, people developed facsimile technology that could reproduce printed material via telegraph. Now, of course, we use telephone lines or wireless technology, and we usually call the resulting facsimile a fax.
