Jason and Derek discuss the origins of one of Lamborghini's most iconic models: the Diablo. And what makes this 1 of 83 GT edition so special. === The Carmudgeon Show Sponsor, Vredestein Tires: https://www.vredestein.com/ Click here to join the Hagerty Driver's Club: https://bit.ly/Join-HDC-Cammisa-Rev === Prior to recording this episode, Jason's Diablo-experience was limited to a blue VT he drove as part of a V12 Lamborghini story back in 2012 that included a 1972 Miura SV, 1988 Countach 5000 QV, Murciélago, Aventador, and LM002. Luckily for Jason (and all of us,) Derek – who also recently drove a Diablo Roadster – brought along this spectacular orange Diablo GT (one of just 83 ever built), which both he and Jason took for a spin. Their impressions followed after a brief history lesson courtesy of Derek. The history lesson will include the origin of Lamborghini itself at the hands of multiple different owners: Ferruccio Lamborghini, Jean-Claude and Patrick Mimran, and Chrysler, which took over just as the Diablo concept was nearly production ready. Luckily for everyone, legendary designer at Bertone, Marcello Gandini, didn't throw his hands up and walk off the job, and we got the Diablo (and the non-Chrysler-tainted early designs went on to become the Cizeta-Moroder V16T). But it was the 90s, and we demanded more! So the motorsport-focused Diablo GT was born. Featuring widened front fenders, a carbon-fiber rear diffuser, carbon-fiber bucket seats, oil cooler w/ heat extractor hood vent, and a roof scoop to direct cold air into the massive carbon-fiber intake plenum feeding independent throttle bodies – and much, much more! Like all Diablos, the interior is a little kit-car spec. A flat bezel with holes carved into it for individual gauges comprises the main “cluster.” The suspension is ultra-stiff, but handles exceptionally well on smooth tarmac. And the car can effortlessly break traction at both near-idle RPMs and at near-triple-digit speeds. Rear visibility is non-existent (there is effectively no rear window), but boy are you visible to everyone else on the road. Before we wrap things up, we talk crankshafts and who made the first modern flat-plane crank for a production V-8. Perhaps it's the Urraco and not the Ferrari 308? Ford's contemporary flat-plane crank Voodoo V-8 from the Shelby GT350 is known to shake itself to pieces. Is that par for the course? Chevy's C8 Z06 Corvette seems to be doing just fine. As are the AMG GT Blacks Series and Aston Martin Valhalla, but does anyone care? Cars like the new Revuelto and Temerario are more common than ever these days. And the number of people who stand a chance of someday affording them seems to be dwindling. Do you care about these million-dollar super cars? Or would you rather see more $35,000 challenges with cars like the Mini Cooper S, Hyundai Elantra N, Ford Mustang Ecoboost, Mazda3 Turbo, VW GTI, Subaru WRX, and Toyota GR86 in 2025? Humans are more rivalrous than we like to believe. Nearly every religion has ancient stories of sibling rivalries. Unfortunately, we humans seem to delight in seeing others fail. But according to Luke Burgis, envy often leads to misery. The strange mystery of desire is that we look to others to figure out what it is that we want, and then we adopt another's desires as our own. Occasionally, though, rivalries can produce good outcomes, like the rivalry between Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About Luke Burgis: Luke Burgis has co-created and led four companies in wellness, consumer products, and technology.

Oggi forse queste cose si accettano, all'epoca no». Nella vita bisogna osare».See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Countach is the stuff of legend. Kicking off the super car era with its edgy styling the Countach had performance numbers to match, or did it? In 1986 a road test for the fast lane magazine reported the Countach breaking the 200 mile per hour mark by posting a top speed of an incredible 201.9 miles per hour… that's in 1986. The question isn't that it hit the 201.9 mark just how, and was it a really a production model, well no. In an all out effort to beat Ferrari Lamborghini may have used some tricks of the trade to help the Countach with its top speed records including rigged air box, In take spacers and in some runs doctored tires, removed mirrors, removed wipers, hallowed out suspension joints and other tricks of the trade. The more realistic top speed for the 1986 Countach was 181.6 miles per hour which is still super car royalty .Super cars are all about weight to power ratio so any chance to reduce the cars weight must be explored. Marcello Gandini took exterior styling cues for the Countach from 1967 Marzal concept car and the 1968 Alfa Romeo Karabo concept. The two concept cars used a safety glass that had been recently developed by a company in Belgian. The glass was super light weight , in fact it was such a difference in weight that Porchse had begun using it on their 911 race cars and RS homologation specials in Group 4. The Countach took advantage of the super light weight glass using it through out. It wasn't cheap back then, but it is even more expensive now. If you need a new windshield for your Countach, even a replica can set you back around $8000.The Countach's styling was cutting edge, mean, aggressive, obviously chiseled from hours spent testing a sophisticated wind tunnel, right? No. Lamborghini, like many exotic car makers, were always a little short in the cash department. The result is creative engineering and problem solving. Not having the resources to put the Countach through proper wind tunnel testing, engineers glued regular feelers made out of fabric all over the car. Out on the road they took extensive pictures of it racing along and made bodywork adjustments based on the directions reactions of the feelers. This low budget wind tunnel testing is why the Countach, al though looking like the sleekest of fighter jets had a drag coefficient of .42. The fist Lamborghini to really use wind tunnel testing was the Diablo and that was due to the resources of Chrysler, the owner during the Diablos development.Ferruccio Lamborghini was not interested in race cars, he felt that was so very Ferrari and to be honest too expensive. As a result there was no factory backed racing program from Lamborghini . The problem Ferruccio had was his very talented team for the most part came from motorsports and had a passion for high performance sports cars. When the LP500 concept car made its debut at the Geneva auto show it was a hit, but Lamborghini was having financial problems and the world was facing a pending oil crisis. Due to pressure from his team Ferruccio made a bet with Bob Wallace, not only his test driver but also his automotive engineer, that if Bob could drive the prototype on an very long road trip, and the car could make it all they back, they would put it into production. Needless to say Bob accepted the challenge, the car made the entire trip and just two short years later the LP400 the legendary Countach hit the production line. The iconic Countach wing was added in the parking lot. The giant wing is legendary but not for all the right reasons. Its huge, blocks rearward visibility and looks amazing, but the rear wing of the Countach is completely cosmetic. As a mater of fact, if the wing wasn't purposefully zeroed out, if it produced any level of downforce the Countach would be uncontrollable at high speeds. The reason is the

What if I told you that just about everything you think you know about wealth and prosperity is WRONG? That the platitudes you hear about ‘following your passion’ and ‘turning thoughts into things’ are, at best, misleading and may be sending you down the wrong path? So, what is it that the super-wealthy and successful understand that you and I do not? What separates a millionaire from a billionaire? And what lessons can we learn from the stories of today’s most iconic figures? Serial entrepreneur Greg Reid is a bestselling author, keynote speaker and filmmaker. Tapped by the Napoleon Hill Foundation to continue the Think and Grow Rich legacy, Greg has had the good fortune to sit down with the most successful contemporary leaders and learn how they persevered through challenging times and capitalized on unexpected opportunities. Ep #48 - In this episode of the podcast, Matt breaks down "The Avenger Drive" which is one of the seven drives that fuel every entrepreneur. The Avenger Drive has the catchphrase "This Must Change!" This drive often originates when an entrepreneur feels they were wronged or that an injustice was committed against them. The result is that a business is created outside of someones anger. The person becomes so mad that they decide to take action and do something to change the situation. Anger is one of the most powerful motivators that inspire people to create something. An example of an entrepreneur that created a business from "The Avenger Drive" would be Ferruccio Lamborghini, the founder of Lamborghini. Listen to the episode for a detailed account of his story, additional examples, and a full descritption of this entrepreneurial drive. This episode marks the third and final drive to be discussed here on the podcast and it relates back to the launch of Matt's brand new ebook, "The Firebox Principle: The 7 Drives That Fuel Every Entrepreneur."
