Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are back and we begin today's episode revisiting (01:02) how Scott Spivey was shot to death in his vehicle by Weldon Boyd and Bradley Williams in September 2023.  A significant development comes in the form of a "legal filing", an "absurd 9-page motion to stay" by Bradley Williams' attorney, Robert E. Lee… yup, that's the name he prefers… We'll also share a disturbing, but pertinent call between Weldon and his granny discussing the incident.  Then (23:00) we share updates on the 'updated' sentence of suspended Hilton Head Island attorney Peter Strauss, the as-yet-unscheduled sentencing for Russell Laffitte, Michael Colucci's retrial scheduled for June 16th and Lee Gilley's Houston status hearing on June 4th for his murder trial.   As our primary focus, (25:06) Mandy and Liz critically examine the 2025 Horry County Police investigation into the 2021 death of Chris Skinner, husband of JP Miller's alleged mistress, highlighting discrepancies between the official ruling of accidental death and video evidence suggesting something else. We'll share police interviews with Chris Skinner's friends, noting the friend's belief the death was a suicide possibly influenced by JP Miller, and questioning the wife's inconsistent statements and demeanor.  Ultimately, we are advocating for truth and justice in all these cases.  Lots to cover, so let's dive in...

He was asked where $6 million in unaccounted stolen money went and didn't answer them truthfully. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a 1971 children's science fiction/fantasy book by Robert C. O'Brien, with illustrations by Zena Bernstein. The novel was published by the New York City publishing house Atheneum Books.   This book was the winner of numerous awards including the 1972 Newbery Medal.   Ten years following its publication, the story was adapted for film as The Secret of NIMH (1982).   The novel centres around a colony of escaped lab rats–the rats of NIMH–who live in a technologically sophisticated and literate society mimicking that of humans. They come to the aid of Mrs. Frisby, a widowed field mouse who seeks to protect her children and home from destruction by a farmer's plow.   The rats of NIMH were inspired by the research of John B. Calhoun on mouse and rat population dynamics at the National Institute of Mental Health from the 1940s to the 1960s.   After O'Brien's death in 1973, his daughter Jane Leslie Conly wrote two sequels to Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.   The Secret of NIMH is a 1982 American animated fantasy adventure film directed by Don Bluth in his directorial debut and based on Robert C. O'Brien's 1971 children's novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. The film features the voices of Elizabeth Hartman, Peter Strauss, Arthur Malet, Dom DeLuise, John Carradine, Derek Jacobi, Hermione Baddeley, and Paul Shenar. It was produced by Bluth's production company Don Bluth Productions in association with Aurora Productions.   The Secret of NIMH was released in the United States on July 2, 1982, by MGM/UA Entertainment Co. under the United Artists label. It was praised by critics for its elegant and painstakingly detailed animation, compelling characters, and deep and mature plot, and won a Saturn Award for Best Animated Film of 1982. Though only a moderate success at the box office, it turned a solid profit through home video and overseas releases. It was followed in 1998 by a direct-to-video sequel, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue, which was made without Bluth's involvement or input and met with poor reception. In 2015, a live-action/computer-animated remake was reported to be in the works. A television series adaptation is also in development by the Fox Corporation.     Opening Credits; Introduction (1.21); Background History (4.50); Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH Plot Synopsis (6.15); Book Thoughts (11.37); Let's Rate (42.18); Introducing a Film (44.01); Secret of NIMH (1982) Film Trailer (46.00); Lights, Camera, Action (48.33); How Many Stars (1:33.30); End Credits (1.35.41); Closing Credits (1:37.18)   Opening Credits– Epidemic Sound – Copyright . In the pop culture pantheon there are those few and proud performers who have indelibly imprinted the landscape to the point where our digital age invites new fans to discover and embrace their iconic work. Among these are Dinah Manoff and JoBeth Williams.Dinah breathed delightful life into Pink Lady Marty Maraschino in Grease. She has starred in Soap, Empty Nest and Neil Simon's You Oughta Be In Pictures. JoBeth's portrayal of Diane Freeling in Poltergeist is on repeat every Halloween and her turn in the generation-defining drama, The Big Chill is a boomer must. These two ground-breaking creators have much to share with us, including their exciting new projects.Dinah's brilliantly hilarious work of fiction is called The Real True Hollywood Story of Jackie Gold. We recommend you listen to the audio version, performed by a cast of gifted actors. Dinah wrote what she knows but not exactly. Jackie is a world famous, tabloid darling narrating her story from deep within a coma induced by an ill-fated, paparazzi dodging balcony leap. Dinah was simply raised by show-biz parents Lee Grant and Arnold Manoff in the star-sprinkled Malibu Colony.Dinah shares her mom's journey from being Dinah's harshest critic to her biggest fan girl, and the harrowing story of her dad's McCarthy-era blacklisting. We also learn how Dinah's parenting of her own kids has taken a very different path.JoBeth is currently starring, with Peter Strauss in the stage play, Love Among The Ruins. It is running through November 5th at North Hollywood's El Portal Theatre. JoBeth and Peter are taking on roles portrayed by Katharine Hepburn and Sir Laurence Olivier and rising beautifully to that challenge! She comes to us with spooky, inside-Poltergeist secrets, corset-wearing horror stories from Wyatt Earp, and tips on how to handle a nude scene with a five-year-old co-star from Kramer vs. Kramer. And, as President emeritus, JoBeth shares how we can all lend assistance to struggling actors through the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.Plus, Weezy is strongly recommending Timothy Egan's disturbing examination of the KKK in the 1920s, A Fever In The Heartland. And Fritz is very keen on Ken Burns' American Buffalo on PBS and Amazon Prime. All that plus an inspiring clip from Illinois Governor J.B. Peter Strauss burst on to the scene in the wildly popular 1976 miniseries "Rich Man, Poor Man" as successful entrepreneur Rudy Jordache, alongside Nick Nolte as the hard luck brother, Tom. He went to a prolific career on film, television and stage. His most recent role was headlining "Love Amid the Ruins" with JoBeth Williams at the Laguna Playhouse, and he also recently starred in "The Outgoing Tide" here for the Ojai Performing Arts Theater nonprofit group. He won an Emmy in 1979 for "The Jericho Mile" about a prison lifer who trains for the Olympics. It was Michael Mann's first directing credit. In a sign of his range, Strauss also played the President of the United States opposite Ice Cube in "XXX: State of the Union." We talk about his wide-ranging career with hundreds of acting credits. He has called Ojai home for more than 35 years and is deeply involved with horticulture, and was the spokesperson for Miracle-Gro for years. He travels widely collecting plants, specializing in succulents. We talk about Ojai and climate change, how the town has changed over the decades and what we need to do to secure the future. We did not talk about the transmigration of souls, Ernie Kovacs or summer homes in Nantucket.

I dunno... someone who is also there? It's 80s b-movie sci-fi at its finest, as the world-weary bounty hunter Wolff (with two 'f's) drives across a desert planet to rescue three supermodels from the clutches of the mutant dictator, Overdog, played by Michael Ironside, whose attempts to chew scenery are frustrated by his being strapped to a camera crane throughout the movie. It's an obvious cashgrab aping both Star Wars and Mad Max, but does it deserve to linger in the Oubliette forever? Find out! MANN AGED E2: TEN TO LIFE ODDSIn 1979 Michael Mann made what amounts to a statement of purpose in THE JERICHO MILE, a TV movie about a Folsom prison inmate who finds succor in running and attracts the eye of both professional trainers, the Olympics, and every racially segregated gang inside. Peter Strauss stars as Lickety Split in a performance so good you'll wonder why he didn't become a household name in the 1980s. The supporting cast begins what will be a Mann strong suit in the decades to come: crack supporting actors at every level and some real life prisoners sprinkled in there for verisimilitude. This is a gem and definite must-see for any Mann fan.  In 2011 David Milch and Mann collaborated on one of the biggest swings-and-miss series of the golden age of premium TV. LUCK lasted one season with 9 episodes (because Milch couldn't finish the script for #10 on time). Cancelled early in production of S2 in 2012 after three horses died, we can consider it a mercy killing of a very troubled dynamic offscreen. Despite the fascinating mosaic of horse racing with great character actors along with two aging stars in Nick Nolte and Dustin Hoffman, this thing simply did not work. Mann directed the pilot, which we talk about here.  THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.

He was so wealthy that he was able to outspend the entire State of Texas in his defense. Cullen was said to be the inspiration for JR Ewing of 80s hit TV show Dallas. He also (allegedly) was a cruel, mean, and violent man behind the doors of their mansion. His acrimonious divorce from Priscilla Davis made all the papers, and on the night of August 2, 1976, he was charged with murdering her 12-year-old daughter, her new boyfriend (Stan Farr,) and injured two others. He was tried several times for different crimes and always seemed to buy his way out of trouble. 'Last Post' is read by John Prebble. ***** Last Post By Carol Ann Duffy 'In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.' If poetry could tell it backwards, true, begin that moment shrapnel scythed you to the stinking mud… but you get up, amazed, watch bled bad blood run upwards from the slime into its wounds; see lines and lines of British boys rewind back to their trenches, kiss the photographs from home- mothers, sweethearts, sisters, younger brothers not entering the story now to die and die and die. Dulce- No- Decorum- No- Pro patria mori. You walk away. You walk away; drop your gun (fixed bayonet) like all your mates do too- Harry, Tommy, Wilfred, Edward, Bert- and light a cigarette. There's coffee in the square, warm French bread and all those thousands dead are shaking dried mud from their hair and queuing up for home. Freshly alive, a lad plays Tipperary to the crowd, released from History; the glistening, healthy horses fit for heroes, kings. You lean against a wall, your several million lives still possible and crammed with love, work, children, talent, English beer, good food. You see the poet tuck away his pocket-book and smile. If poetry could truly tell it backwards, then it would. © Carol Ann Duffy 2009

When Chevron was first decided it was generally welcomed on the right side of the political spectrum as a principled method constraining judicial discretion and permitting the executive to exert policy control over the administrative state. But as the administrative state continues to grow, some now see Chevron as removing an important check on government power and an abdication of the judiciary’s authority to say what the law is. Some members of the Supreme Court are now open to reconsidering judicial deference to agency action, at least in certain areas, such as determining their own jurisdictions and interpreting their own regulations. In what sense is the making of regulatory policy, whether on the environment or on net neutrality, a legal process? Should regulatory agencies adhere to precedent or otherwise be bound by law-like doctrines? We learn about the White House’s influence over rulemaking through OIRA and question how OIRA should function and what legal principles should govern it. Molly Ringwald and Ernie Hudson (a.k.a. the black Ghostbuster) star in 1983's 3D Star Wars ripoff bonanza, about a Han Solo type (Peter Strauss) who travels to a desert planet to save some hot earth women from the lecherous Overdog (Michael Ironside). What is absent is a significant amount of hunting in space, and we're not entirely sure how forbidden this zone is. Produced by Ivan Reitman and part of the resurgence of crappy 3D movies in the early 80s with incredibly long names.
