Gary Tickle is the managing director of SBT and, as a native Australian, had found his way to the subject of beer early on. But it was to take some time before a drink for cozy evenings with family and friends was to become the work for a revolutionary invention called "Brewvo". The basic idea behind the technology is to be able to break beer down into its constituent parts and later reassemble them as desired. For example, any beer can be served with a higher, lower or no alcohol content. Or ingredients present on site, such as water, can be skipped during transport, saving a lot of energy and money. Even storage is much easier - instead of barrels, simple cuboid cartons containing the respective parts of the beer are now sufficient. Sounds like science fiction? Deschutes has tested it and Gary explains it in BierTalk....

Why was he a man on a mission? He had just lost in the two events at the Olympic trials and was not going to represent the USA at the Olympics in 2000. That failure motivated him not just as a freshman at Texas but for the next four years. In the four years between 2000 - 2004, he would become the fastest breaststroker in the world and break the world record in the 100m and 200m events. In this interview, Mindset Forge host Barton and Brendan discuss how failures can be so motivating, how when he was surrounded by elite swimmers at the University of Texas it brought the best out of him and how we can do that in our own lives to bring the best out of ourselves. And finally, he talks about how the culture of a great team can be the secret sauce that helps everyone level up to their maximum potential because of peer to peer accountability.Established MindsetFrom childhood, the concept of failure was already known to Brendan. He got used to failure quickly because he hung out with his brother's friends, who are three years older than he is. His parents would describe his mindset as very much like the underdog. So when Brendan got into swimming, he quickly pushed his capabilities to the limit. He had an excellent developmental coach who was there to make every failure a learning opportunity. Whenever Brendan does something wrong, his coach would pull him to the side and tell him how to do it correctly. Having this foundation of mindset was what made Brendan ready to take head-on whatever challenge there is. Being told that he is going to fail his way to success was perceived positively rather than negatively. It was perceived as a way to grow from the experience, and that helps Brendan understand how to tweak moving forward. Jeremy was an early adopter of CrossFit back in 2005 and began his journey as a coach and CrossFit Games competitor from 2007 - 2015 and an individual and on a team. He is married with three kids and he and his sister own CrossFit Central in Austin, TX. In 2005 Jeremy was introduced to the sport of CrossFit his good friend and Marine, Lance Cantu. Immediately, he knew he had discovered the path he had been seeking since he first started training. This was not just a game he was going to play, but something he was going take part in that would effect positive change on a large scale. Naturally he dove in head first.Motivated by results, Jeremy felt the best way to learn was through action. Action, hard work, dedication, and discipline were the tools he utilized to take $500 and build a million dollar garage gym facility, CrossFit Central, in less than three years. He built from the ground up. In 2005 Jeremy along with his sister Carey started by running boot camps in parks all around Austin. He worked from his one bedroom apartment day in and day out blogging, emailing and programming; strong relationships sprouted out of his emphasis on the importance of being heavily involved in the Austin fitness community. Jeremy laid the foundation for his future by hiring a strong team; coupling his drive with people who were passionate about CrossFit and dedicated to the company's vision. For more Info about Jeremy Thiel, follow him on Instagram @thieljeremyFor a link to all his activities including CrossFit Central and the Fittest Experience, check out http://www.linktr.ee/thieljeremyFor more information about training with Barton, contact him at: Instagram @bartonguybryan Email Barton: bgbryan@gmail.com Want to support the Mindset Forge Podcast by tipping three bucks a month?$3 / month (Donor Level) --> https://themindsetforge.supercast.comFor Personalized Fitness Coaching, email Barton directly to set up a free 30 minute Consultation with him. You're about to hear the story of two co-founders; one a social equity applicant from the legacy market, the other, a trader from New York who found the plant through the end of life care for his mother. From their love of early morning walks, complementary skillsets, and not freaking out on the same day, they have become the first vertically integrated social equity participant in Massachusetts. There is A LOT to be said about Cannabis social equity programs across the Country. Many affected by Cannabis prohibition drug laws, with criminal records, don't have the opportunities to earn the business acumen and financial resources needed to start such an organization in the legal market. This is a story of how this team did it! Things you may learn in today's episode: How NOT to transport a quarter of a million dollars in cash. How to choose a business partner. What a Wareham is. How to lose a physical building. How to fundraise. Hint: It's closer than you think. What a freezer war is and how to win it. The appropriate answer to the age of an instagram account of a 3 year old cannabis business. Finally, what a tremendous amount of patience and perseverance looks like. One thing you will not learn: Throwing a cigarette butt on Mr T's lawn is a very bad idea. No one needs to learn that. We all pity that fool; especially Carl :) Please enjoy our founders journey of starting Massachusetts first Vertically Integrated Social Equity Participant, Trade Roots, with Co-Founder's Carl Giannone & "The Captain" Jesse Pitts Professional Summary: Jesse Pitts: An experienced construction foreman and small business owner who has extensive knowledge of the building codes and amendments here in Massachusetts. He has vast experience in plant cultivation and has recently received a certification in advanced extraction technologies at Havelick & Associates LLC in Golden Colorado. Jesse co-founded The Center For Alternative Life Medicine (C.A.L.M.) out of New Bedford Ma. C.A.L.M. is a not-for-profit entity that was prepared to apply for a medical cannabis license in Ma. By 2014, his desk employed over 100 traders in two offices deploying myriad strategies across a range of asset classes. After 17 years of performing roles ranging from trader to risk manager to recruiter to brand manager, Carl left his trading desk (and Manhattan) to work as an independent outside recruiter for a large multinational proprietary trading firm while taking care of an ill parent. As a result of seeing the benefits of medical cannabis first hand (in moderating cancer symptoms), Carl shifted his focus from investments to cannabis. Yup, this season is toast. What an absolute disastrous collapse for our New York Mets. Like you, even though they rip our hearts out more often than not, we still love this team to no end. With 10 games left, everyone is just going through the motions at this point. The 7 Line Army's Boston outing was fun minus the game, Barnie the Bull is about to live a good life, dog poop tampons, Darren might have to be "Loyal Til The Last Tailgate", Pete Alonso is hosting a Home Run Derby event on Monday in Brooklyn for his Homers For Heroes charity, and whole mash of other randomness. In this episode, Anne Marie talks to history geek, storyteller, and tour operator, Chris Albrecht about Golden Colorado's history, The town that almost became the capital of Colorado.Chris says, "there's no better way to get to know a city than having a local teach you about it through stories. You can also get great recommendations for things to do, when to do them, and the places to avoid." So when he moved to Golden, Colorado, and realized there wasn't a guided history tour available in the historic wild west town at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, he decided to start his own tour company, Golden History Tours.Chris tells some well-crafted stories about Golden, its early days as a town during the second half of the nineteenth century, and some of the historical characters and events that helped make the town what it is today.Find out more about Chris Albrecht and Golden History Tours:https://www.goldenhistorytours.com/moreGolden Colorado, Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden,_ColoradoBuffalo Bill Museum & Grave: https://www.buffalobill.orgo Support Armchair Historians:Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/armchairhistoriansKo-fi: https://ko-fi.com/belgiumrabbitproductionsSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/armchairhistorians)

Sorry, Pete Alonso. There's nothing to smile about right now. Our Bobby V interview went about as well as the Mets road trip. But, in the brief time we had with him, he assured us that every team goes through a bad 2-8 stretch, and this was ours. Much like the Mets, we'll try again next week. We somewhat ease the pain talking The 7 Line Army's 2022 (tentative) schedule, new items dropping this week, and the Insomnia Cookies speakeasy. August is here, and it's going to be a do or die month for the Mets. They've been all alone on the NL East's top step for 86 consecutive days, but it surely doesn't feel like it. The Mets were back in black on Friday, inducted 3 new members in to their HOF on Saturday, and lost the weekend series on Sunday. Baez is now a Met, but with another deGrom setback did the team really do enough before the deadline to set them up for the rest of the year? The Kumar Rocker draft deal fell through. Is this same old Mets or just bad luck? Joe DeMayo checks in to help make a little sense of it all. The boys closed out their weekend with another series W in Flushing, and now own a 30-15 record at home. Pete Alonso is LOCKED IN, and seems to have traded Donnie Stevenson for a dugout pony. Speaking of trades, the deadline is Friday. Who will the Mets land? SNY's Joe DeMayo checks in with the latest rumors. The Mets are inducting Matlack, Darling, and Alfonzo in to their HOF this weekend, but nobody seems to know about it. Irma Lockridge joins the podcast today from the CoorsTek Headquarters in Golden Colorado to discuss what it's like working for three CEOs simultaneously, what HR and company culture have to do with one another, and the critical importance of mentors in your career path. ABOUT OUR GUEST Irma Lockridge has an impressive background and has worked with some of the biggest companies that touch our everyday lives — Accenture, Archstone, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Western Union, Rubbermaid, and for the last four years, CoorsTek. She earned her Bachelor's degree in business administration from the Wharton School and completed executive leadership development training from Harvard Business School. GET IN TOUCH WITH IRMA LOCKRIDGE ON LINKEDIN THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS Podfly Productions: Podfly.net Veterans of Foreign Wars: VFWpost1.org OC Executive Search: OCExecutiveSearch.com KEY TAKEAWAYS [1:52] Michael introduces Irma and asks her to share an interesting tidbit about herself — Irma was born in Mexico and is a first-generation high school and college graduate and she is married to her high school sweetheart. She introduces CoorsTek. WHY HR? [4:30] HR has an impact on every aspect of a business: it deals with people — and if you don't have the right people in the right roles, you simply can't get anywhere. Irma shares the path that led her to choose Human Resources even if she says it chose her! AN UNUSUAL TITLE [6:33] Chief People and Systems Officer… Irma explains what the unusual ‘systems' part is, and how it can be applied more broadly to CPOs and CHROs. NEVER AN AVERAGE DAY [11:00] With CoorsTek being such a large company and Irma reporting to three CEOs, ‘average' isn't something that happens. She touches on that dynamic and some of her daily activities. LANDING THE ROLE AND CREATING LEGACY [14:20] Irma tries her hand at answering an aspirational question in terms of her legacy at CoorsTek. She also talks us through the recruiting process, what she believes got her the job, and what makes the company a uniquely good fit for her. CPO PHILOSOPHY [17:30] Irma shares her thoughts on leadership and management style as well as how she developed the philosophy that HR is not a support role, in the course of her career and some business experience. [20:39] Irma shares her advice for mid-level managers trying to get ahead. Don't ask for permission and have your ducks in a row. INFLUENCING CULTURE [21:14] A CPO or a CHRO is in a prime position to influence culture and Irma touches on how this is operationalized in her own role. GLOBAL EXPERIENCE [24:11] Working for a global business in one of the things Irma loves; it helps her remain agile and keeps her challenged.
