His discography includes collaborations with artists such as Jane Birkin, Elizabeth Fraser and Matt Elliott. His work has been featured in films, theatre productions and contemporary art installations.Tiersen's compositions have appeared in a range of films beyond Amélie, including Good Bye, Lenin! His music is frequently used for its emotive and atmospheric qualities, particularly in European cinema. His latest release, Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour (2024), is a double album where the first part comprises eight solo piano pieces written during a 2023 sailing trip, each linked to a specific location. The second part shifts to electronic production, incorporating modular synths, samples and rhythmic textures, created following a night at sea near Belfast. The project reflects Tiersen's ongoing interest in location-based composition and the integration of acoustic and electronic elements.Tiersen records at his studio on the island of Ushant, off the coast of Brittany and continues to tour internationally.https://www.yanntiersen.com/https://www.instagram.com/yanntiersenhttps://www.facebook.com/yanntiersen.officialhttps://www.youtube.com/yanntiersenWilliam Stokes BiogWilliam Stokes is a producer, writer and artist in three-piece avant-psych band Voka Gentle. Steven and Ian begin this week's episode by noting the returns of two indie-rock favorites from the 2000s — Grizzly Bear and Fiery Furnaces are both returning to the road later this year (0:42). (Given that Grizzly Bear's Shields was recently inducted in the Indiecast Hall Of Fame, could this be evidence of the vaunted Indiecast bump?)The guys also talk about an upcoming fall tour from Modest Mouse and Built To Spill, and weigh the catalogs of these iconic bands against each other (7:32). Then they discuss the latest song by Alex G, a teaser for his upcoming RCA Records debut LP (19:05). In the mailbag, a listener asks whether being a music critic makes it harder to be a music fan (28:19). The guys also answer an email about Sleep Token, which makes this the second consecutive episode with Sleep Token discourse. In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the latest from the UK band Caroline and Steven goes for the Chicago guitarist Eli Winter (53:35).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. You might have an open-door policy, but if a metaphorical grizzly bear is sitting behind it, your team still won't walk through. In this episode of The Leaders Kit Bag, I dig into a leadership truth that's hard to hear but vital to address: just because you've got an “open door policy” doesn't mean people feel safe enough to share everything you need to know. I explore why feedback often goes unspoken and why well-meaning leaders may be making decisions based on partial truths and assumptions, without even realising it. In this episode, you'll learn: Why teams hold back the feedback you most need to hear Three common reasons people don't speak up The truth about your leadership brand, and how to improve it A powerful, practical formula to help build genuine trust and psychological safety This one is all about creating a culture where people feel safe enough to tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. Tom Mangelsen is one of the most gifted and prolific wildlife photographers of our time. He may be best known for documenting the life of Grizzly Bear 399 in and around Teton National Park in Wyoming. I’ve spent thousands of hours alongside, and guiding some of the best wildlife photographers in the world, but I’ve never been lucky enough to spend time in the wild with Tom. And he has always seemed to possess a connection with animals that is rare. Whether it be gorillas, penguins, tigers, or our beloved grizzlies, Tom’s work over the last 50 years captures moments of true nature that inspire people all over the world. I went into our conversation wanting to talk about the most famous bear on earth, but also wanting to understand how he sees the world through his camera lens. What I got was a lesson in being still. We’d love to hear what you think of THE WILD. Which shows did you like the best? What would you like to hear more of? If you have a moment please fill out this quick survey. On today's episode, I talk to Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones of Sunroof. Daniel and Gareth have had long, varied careers for decades - as musicians, music producers and more. Daniel is the founder of Mute Records, which has released albums from numerous groups including Depeche Mode, New Order, Wire, Nick Cave and many others. And as a producer, Gareth has worked with many of those same bands and more including Interpol, Grizzly Bear, Madness and that's just a small sampling. The two began collaborating together in 1982 when Daniel asked Gareth to work with him on what became Depeche Mode's Construction Time Again. After Depeche Mode had gone home for the day, the two would stay on to work on their own sessions. This became Sunroof, and they worked mostly as a remix project. However, in 2019, they started improvising together with modular systems as a lark and enjoyed the results. They've recorded three fantastic albums, and their latest, Electronic Music Improvisation Vol.3, came out at the end of November, and it's wonderful!
