Dr. Michael Russell: Michael Russell has been an avid gamer for nearly 35 years. After a successful career in sales, Dr. Russell entered the field of education as a social studies teacher at Complete High School Maize in 2014. After his first year of teaching, Dr. Russell was awarded the Horizon Award for Kansas in 2015. This award is given to first-year teachers to recognize excellence in the classroom. In 2018, Dr. Russell also received the Making IT Happen Award at the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education Conference for his work developing and implementing a video game curriculum in the classroom. While esports did exist at the high school level in 2014, there was no curriculum available to teachers that would provide structured learning to students. As there was no curriculum available, Dr. Russell and Dr. Kristy Custer created standards and a curriculum to fill this void. The following curriculum is the result of those efforts. Dr. Russell has also been a speaker at the 2019 ISTE Conference, the 2018 Future of Education Technology Conference, Global Esports Clinic, and the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education Conference. In 2018, Dr. Russell completed his master's degree in building administration from Fort Hays State University and earned his doctoral degree in District Leadership from Baker University in 2021. Dr. Russell is the Vice-President of Curriculum and Esports Integration at High School Esports League, working to develop curriculum for educators around the world. About Tamara She is a mom. Raising three children provides endless opportunities for reflection as you discover what works (and what doesn’t!) for each of the little personalities you are trying to shape. Tamara’s parenting stories are sparked by observations and interactions as her children learn and grow. She is an educator. Tamara began her teaching career in 1997 with Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV. Since that time, she’s educated children, teachers, parents and district leaders through my work with Shelby County Schools in Memphis, TN, Staunton City Schools in Staunton, VA, and Hanover County Public Schools in Ashland, VA. Her professional experiences include serving as an elementary classroom teacher, a Differentiation Specialist and a technology integrator. She was named 2019 Mechanicsville Elementary Teacher of the Year and an R.E.B. Award for Teaching Excellence finalist (with final designations announced November 2018!) She currently hold a masters degree in Educational Leadership with administrative licensure for grades PK-12 that she received from James Madison University in 2006. She presents at local, state, and international conferences to include EdTechRVA, Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) Conference, and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference. In 2018, she was a keynote speaker for the Clarke County Innovation Conference and serve as Social Media Chairperson for the annual VSTE Conference. She is passionate about student choice and voice and will often share stories of her lessons to inspire educators or perhaps strike a conversation that will engage others to delve deeper into the topic at hand. She is also passionate about kindness, hosting the annual Kindness Share Fair at Mechanicsville Elementary School. Being an educator to other parents’ children is tightly woven into her own parenting style. She is a writer. In 2012, she created her first blog, sharing her journey of completing 40 random acts of kindness for others in celebration of her 40th birthday. After presenting an Ignite session at the 2014 ISTE Conference in Atlanta, GA, she expanded her passion for writing to include various publications with organizations such as ISTE, Tech4Learning, and Christian Educators Association International. Her repertoire now includes book collaborations, web posts, magazine articles, screencasts, webinars, digital learning guides and more. She is currently writing a book about kindness to be published in 2019 by Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc.

Security articles discussed included the worst cybersecurity breaches of 2018 (so far), the importance of never using a USB from an unknown source (including North Korea summit officials), and the potential danger of discarding a used USB flash drive. Google Chrome articles included the launch of the CTL rugged Chromebook, and Neverware's "Bring Your Old Device" tour, which included an ISTE vendor hall appearance at the Google booth. On the Amazon front, Jason reminded us to look forward to Amazon Prime Day on July 16th, and to consider why Amazon continues to sell lots of tablets in an otherwise lackluster market. Twitter's recent efforts to delete fake accounts in advance of 2018 midterm elections in the United States was also highlighted. This week Jason Neiffer (@techsavvyteach) and Wes Fryer (@wfryer) discussed takeaways and "tired edtech trends" from the 2017 ISTE Conference in San Antonio. They demonstrated the new "Seeing AI" app from Microsoft, which amazingly has been FIRST released for iOS / iPhone / iPad, and discussed several noteworthy and recent podcasts, videos and articles relating to artificial intelligence. Other addressed topics included Google's new integrated Drive & Photos ‘Backup & Sync’ app, a recent study finding the mere presence of a cell phone reduces brain power, #FontGate in Pakistan, a tragic story of attempted YouTube stardom, and reviews of the new Microsoft laptop. Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar, "Projects By Jen and NOTatISTE" with special guest presenter, Jennifer Wagner, March 11, 2017. We are excited to have Jennifer Wagner with us to share two very exciting opportunities. As the creator of ProjectsByJen, she has been successfully encouraging teachers since 1999 to use online projects in their PreK-6 classrooms. Jennifer has hosted over 80 projects with over 1 Million participants. Six to eight projects are hosted each year each with a different theme -- literature, history, holiday celebrations, etc. Almost all the projects can be used in PreK - Sixth grade with extension ideas provided for each level. Using various ideas, she will help you understand how online projects will help you make the most of your time in a variety of ways. In addition, Jennifer will be sharing information about the #NOTatISTE community which she has organized to help educators who are unable to attend the annual ISTE Conference to be able to participate virtually through sharing of resources, activities, videos and presentations by participants. Jennifer is an exemplary teacher and technology facilitator in Southern California and has won numerous awards for her creative ways in encouraging teachers to collaborate, her teaching style is very user-friendly, creative, and personable. Since the late 1990's, Jennifer's main focus has moved from working with students to working with teachers. She attends many local and state conferences each year, sharing ideas and also frequents many virtual conference opportunities!
