The Sports Port Episode 737 LIVE!
…Like a kid full of candy who won't shut up and go to sleep, it's the episode that would't go to bed - so much doin' and so little time. Well, it's done: Hostus Maximus Justin Fort and Porsche Boy JustMark met up in the hills for fine sopressata, Irish whiskey (that loved Justin but hated Mark) and a chat about pocket pistols - commonly called a “micro” nowadays. From Derringers to Jennings and S&Ws and LCPs, the gerhead consultants whip it out and compare misfires. When it was all said and done, it was just stuff we like (or like to hate): Jaegermeister, Kennewick Man, glue versus screws, Grenadier versus 4Runner, Hickock .45, stoned drivers, Trotski, used Porsches and guns, das hooter, Porschelish and Japlish, Metzger engines, old retaining walls, old steel and old mining history. Oh yes, plus Apocalypse Now, Heart of Darkness, Air America, Wooley Bully, Tour of Duty, Dredd and Riddick.

In this spirited discussion with Alain Royer and Henry Preiss of Preiss Imports, some of the topics we discuss include: What precisely Izarra liqueur is and the geographic and cultural forces that allowed it to remain more of a regional specialty, while Chartreuse enjoyed wider exposure. How other specialty liqueurs, like Jaegermeister and Luxardo Maraschino, managed to burst the bonds of their relatively “niche” statuses and become heavyweights in the cocktail world. The unique culture and flavors of the Basque nation, a people who transcend political and geographic boundaries and holds tenaciously to their own distinct identity even in today's increasingly remixed and digital world. Then, of course, we taste through Izarra's two flagship offerings: Izarra Verte and Izarra Jaune. We compare and contrast these spirits with their logical Chartreuse analogues and explore the best service methods and use cases for each. We wrap up the conversation by reviewing how Henry and his team are rolling out this beautiful duo of alpine liqueurs in liquor stores and bars across the country and give you some insights on how to get your hands on a bottle. Along the way, we cover the medicinal underpinnings of our contemporary genepies and amari, the crucial role of the Armagnac region in the production of these Basque spirits, the one Izarra product that didn't quite survive the test of time, and much, much more.
The guys kick off the pod with some Jaegermeister horror stories. After that some thoughts on the Guardians new manager and how much they will end up changing because of him (it sounds like kind of a lot). The Browns demolish a team they should have demolished, so its officially a new era of Browns football. Josh McDaniels must be the worst dude ever. Stupid fu***** hats and the Reddit story of the week.

...Because driving ain't about being able to afford the car, and being skilled ain't because you showed up - motoring fails are not what you think, but you should have thought of that. The Garage Hour goon squad - with Mr. Intolerant and Hostus Maximus Justin Fort - does a dance with why car accidents are up, and the whys aren't what they were (hint: the road is in the real world). While we're at it, there's cat versus squirrel (the cat lost), FJs in Ramona, street racing in the 'Springs, Hank Hill versus Homer Simpson, and Cut Chemist.

Dave's invited Jake around for our SPECIAL EPISODE for those outside of Wellington, in your feeds right as we walk on stage for our live recording. This is also Jaegermeister affected.
Seriously, keep the kids away from this one. Don't listen with young moldable minds to this episode. Lots of cursing and Crossfit in this one. They will come out ready to shank a muthafucka and wearing Reebok Pumps. This episode was not sponsored by Crossfit Salcedo and their Jaegermeister yielding owner, William X. To get ready for this episode, Steve starts with some Tin Cup Whiskey, and Greg has a shot of Jaegermeister with an ice-cold Miller Lite. They guys talk about the North American rail - the Sora and then talk about the Tarantino classic - Pulp Fiction. Oh, if you like beaver trappin', you're in the right place.
We were waiting for the right guest to break out our dark mistress, and bar manager extraordinaire Tom Kneeland fits the bill! One of Seattle's most experienced bar managers, and the guy who introduced Matt and Justin in the first place, Kneeland has had a hand in some of Seattle's most iconic spots. Take a long trip down memory lane with original nightmare fuel!
As Steve says: Best. Episode. Ever. In this episode, the guys have a new theme - Westerns. Steve has a few glasses of Campion Tequila, while Greg stars with some Jaegermeister shots, and then moves to a fine American Whiskey - B&E from California. The Greater Roadrunner becomes one of the guys favorite topics so far on Bird Brag, and Greg finishes the episode off with a little history behind the movie Blazing Saddles. Enjoy. Jaegermeister sued over logo, trouble in the Holy Land, Hinduism and mensuration, the wacky Utah state legislature, the Southern Baptist Convention does something right, tiger widows, and does Brigham Young University's policy change about gay and lesbian students actually change anything?
Neil Dunsire is known to some as the sweaty singer and guitarist from DEAD!DEAD!DEAD! and to others as the super guy from North Wales' all inclusive music, film and creativity charit TAPE. Either way, everyone is agreed that he's a top friend. We recorded this chat whilst Neil was still feeling like crap from a long, long journey down from Wales to Southampton - if you could see his face during this conversation, you'd know that he really need sleep more than he needed to sit down with me and record a podcast. But that's why he's also a great friend. Many years ago we annoyed the entire Jaegermeister company with our on stage antics at an awards show. Since then, we've been causing trouble ever since. I love him to bits and he's been there for me in many a dark and light time.DEAD!DEAD!DEAD!TAPE Music and Film CharitySupport the podcast: https://www.patreon.com/grantsharkey See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What is Gross Negligence standard. Mosby wipes out 800 convictions. Baltimore City (at the same time) refuses to pay or investigate GTTF wrongdoing. It's Not Just Baltimore: Man arrested for impersonating a cop when he pulls over a bunch of undercover cops GOP candidate/ex-porn site owner appeals his ban from Twitter. A Happy Thanksgiving Charities Themed Podcast Today: Happy Thanksgiving and a whole lot of charity work on this cold and thankful holiday in New York. Your host, Scott, shares this year's charities and support messages to be thankful this season. Special shoutouts to Tunnel 2 Towers with the Stephen Siller Foundation. Another shoutout to Mary Lanning of her Yes! Solutions in NYC and the many years of serving hot meals to the streets of Harlem with the StreetCorner Gourmets. Stay tuned for a follow-up episode with Brian Strauser of the Strauser Project when we dig deeper into our Staten Island experiences before attending this year's all-nighter creating over 2000 hot meals with the StreetCorner Gourmets family. Facebook LIVE From New York City: On This Episode You Will Hear:[spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction [spp-timestamp time="01:15"] Beards and No Shave November vs Movember. [spp-timestamp time="01:45"] In the USA, we have Thanksgiving. So about eight years ago, I stumbled across a wonderful woman by the name of Mary landing in New York City. This was after my first year of firefighting after I left the corporate space. [spp-timestamp time="03:06"] StreetCorner Gourmets has been going on for 47 years. I just finished my fire season, she loved hearing that story. I said, I'll be back and give me your contact information. I'm going to come up and I'm gonna volunteer with you, your family, and these people you gather every year to create such a powerful impact. [spp-timestamp time="04:35"] 2000 meals made from scratch, Thanksgiving meals that we create in a commercial kitchen with volunteer work, then taken to the streets, and we serve them hot on the street Thanksgiving morning. [spp-timestamp time="06:12"] Shoutout to Brian Strauser of the Strauser Project, he's been on the show a couple times over the years. He was inspired to join me this year. Another tradition I'm going to throw in here for you guys is we also attempt to do a mountain bike ride every Thanksgiving day morning. [spp-timestamp time="07:00"] Sleep deprivation is not healthy for us. [spp-timestamp time="07:59"] I got changed in the parking lot, freezing my butt off. This annual ride is called the Jaeger ride. It is inspired by Jaegermeister, the liquor, if you choose not to drink, it's okay. [spp-timestamp time="08:53"] Brian had his own powerful event that we're going to bring up on another one of our upcoming shows. A powerful organization out of New York ever since 911, and the loss of the twin towers. Thousands of people and thousands of first responders who had died, triggered an organization that rose from the ashes, The Stephen Siller Foundation [spp-timestamp time="10:46"] Stephen Siller Foundation stepped up. Their tagline is the Tunnel 2 Towers organization and it's a story of Stephen Siller, a fallen FDNY member who was off duty the day of 911. He tried getting to the tower, grabbed 70 pounds of gear, his clothing, his equipment, ran from the tunnel to the towers. [spp-timestamp time="11:10"] Stephen Sillers Foundation steps up, who is Stephen from 9/11? [spp-timestamp time="13:40"] A cold Thanksgiving in 2018, that we have a lot to be thankful for. In the end, what is the purpose behind all of that what are you doing, to drive all of that. [spp-timestamp time="14:20"] Final Words We Bring Belonging Back. - Mary Lanning Yes! Colin Cowie is a top designer for all things weddings, as well as galas, charitable events, corporate and destination celebrations. He's beloved by the likes of Oprah, Jerry Seinfeld, Elton John, Michael Jordan, Bruce Willis, Jennifer Aniston, and countless other A-list celebrities. Since Colin arrived in Los Angeles from Kitzwe, Zambia at the height of apartheid in 1985, his professional life has soared. Colin grew up in a household that constantly entertained friends and family, so when he came to the US, he just started doing the same thing he had always been doing at home in Zambia. While teaching cooking lessons at age 23, he met a woman whose chance encounter soon led to his first wedding assignment for a local bachelor: Hugh Hefner. Thirty-one years of parties, weddings, and multi-day events later, he’s never created the same event twice. The degree to which Colin cares for and personalizes his work is not just unmatched, it's nearly indescribable, and precisely why he’s consistently relied upon by the most discerning of clientele. He learns everything there is to know about his clients, over hors-d'oeuvres and champagne, until the event he crafts (and the journey on which he takes his clients to get there) is not just perfectly tailored, but permanently unique. When he isn't designing weddings and Fortune 500 parties, Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Ball or Guinness Book of World Records-breaking pyrotechnic shows abroad, Colin works as "creator-director" for elite brands like NetJets, Dom Perignon, and Bergdorf Goodman; even private islands. Idyllic as Colin’s life may sound, and so often is, he and Andy extend their conversation today beyond the exclusive glamour of the luxury events industry to the unseen challenges once faced in the midst of the great recession, Colin's daily routines (from meditation and "I am" statements to nightcaps), professional strategies, and the critical value of humility and gratitude. Show Highlights: Beef jerky and Jaegermeister aren’t things you normally associate with Colin - hear his story about both. Delivering babies? Yep, Colin’s done that too. Even at the top of his game, Colin wasn’t immune from crisis - hear how he lost 80% of his income almost overnight. Learn how Colin feels about his employees leaving to start their own business. Colin’s philosophy behind what he charges for his services. Learn about Colin’s multiple streams of income and his recommendations for you to create them too. The Garage Hour goons dig into some neighborhood charm and explore a local manifestation of Big Government in Chicago By The Sea, otherwise known as the Jewel in the Hills, La Mesa, CA. Joined by La Mesa businessfolk Craig "Elect My Muscles" Maxwell, Bill "British Make Things Too" Jaynes and Deena "I'm Here to Make These Guys Look Good" While, Hostus Maximus Justin Fort talks through the "no" side of the city's attempted business-improvement district (PBID), otherwise as the El Cajonification of La Mesa. Needless to say, the locals ain't big fans, y'know, because they like to do things like earn a living and afford their rent. There's also an exploration of how "improved" business districts attract crime but not income. Promise: we've got the usual Garage Hour charm in this one. There's British jokes, British cars, British - heh, Scottish - actors, drinking jokes (La Mesa's mayor tends to invite them), DUI seriousness (don't), tinpot dictators marked for death, tinpot mouthpieces marked for a role in the Kardashian White House, the unmanned US-Mexico border, and how many old trucks we can cram into one conversation. If you'd prefer an M4A version of this episode, look for the same date without the "MP3" tag in the title.

Don't be mad - we warned you: sometimes the Garage Hour goons stay on-topic, and other times it's a 100% mashup trainwreck like this. Fortunately, we do great trainwrecks. This episode's got everything from listener mail and perfect barbecue weather to the Champions of Justin and socialist muppet Bernie Sanders, plus the Reverend Horton Heat in San Diego, Led Zeppelin everywhere, the Jaegermeister face, how to improve traffic conditions with a little plague, the Lethal Weapon nailgun scene, bad neighborhoods to fall down and saw off your arm in, cash payments in Iraq and truck bumpers for 4Runners. It's the Garage Hour. Who are you to resist?
