Hey Folks! In this episode we talk about Carly's swollen two face job interview and the neo noir The Long Goodbye! The Long Goodbye is a 1973 American satirical neo-noir film directed by Robert Altman and written by Leigh Brackett, based on Raymond Chandler's 1953 novel. The film stars Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe and features Sterling Hayden, Nina Van Pallandt, Jim Bouton, Mark Rydell, and an early, uncredited appearance by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story's setting was moved from the 1940s to 1970s Hollywood. The film has been called "a study of a moral and decent man cast adrift in a selfish, self-obsessed society where lives can be thrown away without a backward glance ... and any notions of friendship and loyalty are meaningless."[2] In 2021, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"

Jedidiah Collins is the "Fullback of Finance." After a successful career in the NFL, he's on a mission to empower one million people to own their financial stories. He's an author, a speaker, a podcaster, and a teacher…his story is one of grit and determination. There are 380,000 collegiate athletes, yet only 1% percent of them make it to a professional level. Despite having success in college, Jed knew it would be challenging to make it as a pro.  But that didn't stop him. It wasn't a smooth ride by any means, and he shares his story of getting cut over and over again before finally landing a starting role for the Super Bowl-defending New Orleans Saints.  Not only did he become a starter, he was even named to the Pro Bowl team. Jed was part of what he calls the "Breakfast Club," when he would be one of the first people in the locker room learning and understanding what it takes to be a peak performer.  A consistent theme for Jed is he was able to steal success from each of the organizations he was a part of. We get a first-row seat to hear the fascinating stories of how he learned from iconic athletes like Drew Brees. After realizing that only 30% of retired NFL athletes walk away with their financial dream still intact, Jed decided to become a Certified Financial Planner during the off-season. On the show, we cover a lot of ground, including why thoughts are things, the difference between external and internal success, why repetition matters, how to silence the voice of quit, and why we should focus on most vs now. A the core of Jed's philosophy is a belief that we must eliminate potential. Jed has a winning mindset and shares how one-on-one basketball competitions with his brothers as a kid made an impact on his entire life. We also learned why he feels his greatest asset is his lifelong habit of journaling. “Is our relationship with the wealth you have more about fear or more about joy? If you are experiencing any sort of poverty, what a difference would it make to be freed from that burden? Actually to “not be anxious about your life, what you all will eat or what you all will drink, or about your body, what you all will wear.” And if you are among those of us who are not, what a joy would it be to be a part of freeing each other from that? For all of us, whether what has us in our grip is wealth or debt, fear or anxiety, what would it be like to let go of that so we can embrace the God who is love and let that God who is love embrace and provide for us through one another?” Sermon by Mike Kinman from worship at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at All Saints Church, Pasadena. Based on the book by Raymond Chandler, Altman offers a uniquely comic and at the time derided take on Philip Marlowe and the noir genre that nevertheless went on to influence countless classic films in the years since. Other works discussed in this episode: Inherent Vice, The Big Lebowski, California Split, The Big Sleep, Breathless, and of course, The Legend of Zelda. We also take a dive into Travis's IMDb for a behind-the-scenes look at Stargate SG-1, Supernatural, Woke, and Boom Pro Wrestling. If you'd like to watch the movie along with us (and you really should), it is currently streaming for free on Tubi in Canada at the time of publication. We'll be back next week to discuss the Luc Besson 90s sci-fi action epic The Fifth Element, with Trust The Process host and NEW commentator Jordan Bowman.

EPISODE 153: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:42) SPECIAL COMMENT: Wait - what? After a lurid week of claiming the entire January 6 Insurrection was just "peaceful sight-seers" disturbed by "hooligans" and insisting that the greatest conspiracy in the history of the country had been effected to transform the country and weaponize this and lie about that, Tucker Carlson suddenly, abruptly, completely and without explanation DROPPED THE JANUARY 6TH VIDEO STORY LAST NIGHT. No Jacob Chansley. No withheld video. No punish Liz Cheney.  It's quiet. It's too quiet. What happened? The Department of Justice released three videos implicating Chansley, putting him within feet of a Senator (probably Chuck Grassley) during mid-evacuation. A New York State Supreme Court judge let the OTHER voting machine company's defamation lawsuit against Fox proceed. For all we know, Rupert Murdoch called Carlson and said "shut your pie hole." But the sudden silence was almost universal. Seen a tweet from a Congressman lately? Even Elon Musk stopped trying to convince people - on Saturday. B-Block (19:26) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Yes, you read right. South Carolina state representative introduces bill to institute death penalty for women who get abortions (be pro-life or we'll kill you). A (dubious) report CNN may fire Chris Licht before Labor Day (22:14) IN SPORTS: Garrapolo to Raiders; Bauer to Japan; Unknown Nicaraguan WBC star gets big league contract; in memory of Joe Pepitone. (25:43) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Wall Street Journal blames SVB failure on bank not having enough white guys; Trump talks about education, like he ever had one; and Ron DeSantis can do an interview AND throw a baseball while wearing high heels! C-Block (34:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Sloane in California (35:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Sportscaster Gary Lineker beats the BBC. It ends his suspension, he keeps expressing his political opinions. Utter deja vu for me. In 2010 MSNBC suspended me for doing something I had the right to do, vowed to not pay me for months. On March 4, 1973, it was announced New York Yankees pitchers Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson would be holding separate press conferences that day. Both men would be announcing a trade, nothing unusual in baseball where players move around more than children in the back seat of a car. The assembled media got ready to learn where each of them was being traded. Mike Kekich explained the trade to the media. The two pitchers were not trading teams, they were trading wives. Not just wives, their entire families, even their dogs. Former teammate Jim Bouton, would later remark, “I can see trading your wife, but the dog?” Titus O'Reily and Mick Molloy look back at one of the most bizarre sports stories of all time and discuss how it all worked out for the couples involved, plus a detour onto Yankees owner George Steinbrenner's haircut policy. October 5, 1963 Don Drysdale pitched a masterful three-hitter at Dodger Stadium in his complete-game win. Manager Walter Alston called Drysdale's performance "one of the greatest pitched games I ever saw." Jim Bouton, making his first World Series start, dueled Drysdale throughout, permitting only four hits in seven innings for a losing cause. The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the first on a Jim Gilliam walk, a wild pitch and a single by Tommy Davis. Gilliam almost scored again in the eighth off Hal Reniff, but was caught in an attempt to steal third. The final out came on Joe Pepitone's drive that backed Dodger right fielder Ron Fairly up against the bullpen gate to make the catch of a ball that would have been a home run in Yankee Stadium. Tony Kubek had two of the Yankees' three hits, but none of the hits were extra-base hits. Today we are joined by Dr. Mitchell Nathanson, author of the book Bouton: The Life of a Baseball Original (University of Nebraska Press, 2020). Nathanson, a professor of law at the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports at Villanova University, examines the life of Jim Bouton, a journeyman pitcher whose 1970 book, “Ball Four,” was a lightning rod for controversy and became one of the best sports books of all time. Nathanson examines the dynamics behind the crafting and publishing of “Ball Four,” Bouton’s diary of the 1969 major league baseball season. He examines the contributions of Leonard Shecter, the former New York Post sportswriter who helped shape Bouton’s narrative. More importantly, Nathanson presents a more well-rounded portrait of Bouton, a free-thinking man who marched to his own beat and was not afraid to buck the establishment. Bouton’s youth, his early successes with the New York Yankees and fall from grace are chronicled. Well-researched with interviews from key figures in his lifetime, “Bouton” provides context and reveals the man behind a work that was vilified fifty years ago as a “kiss-and-tell” book but is now lauded as a sports classic. Nathanson brings fresh perspective and delivers an unvarnished, critical view of Bouton. Bob D’Angelo earned his master’s degree in history from Southern New Hampshire University in May 2018. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida and spent more than three decades as a sportswriter and sports copy editor, including 28 years on the sports copy desk at The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune. He is currently a digital news producer for Cox Media Group. Bob can be reached at bdangelo57@gmail.com. For more information, visit Bob D’Angelo’s Books and Blogs. A Metsian Podcast enters the 2nd half with a glorious collection of Mets fans gathering to lament the season so far and the season yet to come. Tonight, LIVE at 9pm ET, we are joined by Taryn "The Coop" Cooper, John "Metstradamus" Coppinger, "Mets Daddy" aka John, John "Mets Rewind" Strubel and Stephen "Kranepool Society" Keane. We'll first recap the Home Run Derby win by Pete Alonso and how he and the other Mets, Jacob deGrom and Jeff McNeil, fared in the All-Star game...and Cleveland's flub putting deGrom's face where McNeil's should have been on the scoreboard. Jim Bouton, author of "Ball Four," has passed at age 80. We'll look back on his career and the impact his book had on the culture and the game. The trade deadline is right around the corner and as much as the front office hopes to go on a major run, they have to be realistic with how they approach the hardened deadline with no waiver period in August this time. What to do, what to do? Will even Noah Syndergaard be included with Todd Frazier and Zack Wheeler in the possible moves made? All that plus MUCH MORE! So, join us LIVE at 9pm ET for the latest edition of A Metsian Podcast!

Opening day. Or Opening Day, depending on how you feel about it. –Jim Bouton, Ball Four It is June yet! Opening day of the 2019 CFL season is upon us, and the Rouge, White & Blue Podcast is stoked to enter our fourth full season of chatting Canadian football from South Of The Border.  In RWB episode #139, co-hosts Os Davis and Joe Pritchard discuss… At 00.00 – the Jonathan Rose non-suspension and the potentially very disturbing precedent this causes. 10.04 – Kevin Glenn's retirement from the CFL and in what uniform he should be enshrined into a Hall of Fame wearing. 16.59 – Our predictions for the 2019 season through the prism of the annual CFL media poll which the RWB was privileged enough to participate in. Sparing the spoilers, the co-hosts like the chances of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats to varying degrees; are down on the Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatchewan Roughriders; and show an interesting divergence of opinion on the Montreal Alouettes. Lots of predictions about individual awards and numbers are made as well. 54.32 – And finally, the old standby: Picking next week's games. Joe and Os mull over week 1 games, with an eye (Os's, that is) on betting Saskatchewan +3 at Hamilton, Montreal +10 at Edmonton, Ottawa Redblacks +6 at Calgary Stampeders; and Winnipeg +2 at BC.
