This week Anna jumps back into the story of Zero Knowledge Systems with Jonathan Wilkins, cofounder Blockstream and Cloaked Services and previous employee of ZKS back in 2000. They explore the emergence of security culture in the 1990s, what led Jonathan to join Zero Knowledge Systems and his experience working on projects such as the Freedom Network. They discuss the office atmosphere and the research lab before catching up on the work Jonathan has focused on since then. Key concepts we see in the ZK community today were first pioneered by the Zero Knowledge Systems research team and we hope to invite more of these past members of the team in the future! Organizing around motherhood works. It can activate women politically by helping them tap into a powerful identity. But maternal activism can also have some unintended consequences that don't advance justice. So in the final episode of the season, we're asking this season's guests: should the left still be playing into maternalist politics? Or can we evolve beyond it — to a kind of politics that focuses on values, not a fixed identity, and makes space for all caregivers? This season's cover art features a photograph by Jonathan Wilkins.White Picket Fence is supported by Planned Parenthood. Much of the motherhood activism that is lifted up in our politics portrays women in a certain way: as uniquely moral, even apolitical, actors who were compelled to take action because they fear for their children's safety. It's a myth that's highly racially coded and obscures the realities of motherhood. The truth? Motherhood is political. Moms are political. And when we start acknowledging that and centering the most marginalized moms in our activism — their needs and experiences — we end up building better policies for all of us.This season's cover art features a photograph by Jonathan Wilkins.White Picket Fence is supported by Planned Parenthood. The political identity of "mother" is not owned by the right. There's also a rich history of mothers working to advance progressive change. Yet the framing of much of this activism—a mother spurred to action when awakened to a threat to her child's safety—remains grounded in an image of motherhood that is riddled with race and class privilege. Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, began her activism journey as a stay-at-home suburban mom of five who felt compelled to fight for common-sense gun violence prevention in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting. But when Shannon met Rep. Lucy McBath, then a mother grieving the loss of her son, Jordan, to gun violence, something shifted. The more Moms Demand Action expanded their focus and passed the microphone to Black women who had been working on the issue for years, the more powerful Moms Demand Action became. We're bringing you another podcast from Wonder Media Network that we think you'll love: White Picket Fence. White Picket Fence interrogates the structures of inequity affecting women since America's founding. On the newest season, host Julie Kohler investigates mothers as a political force — how motherhood has been utilized for political gain and why the identity of “mother” remains so politically potent. In the fall of 2020, a group of mothers gathered around a kitchen table. They were concerned that public school administrators were making decisions about their children's health and education that overstepped their bounds. It felt like they were losing control over their kids. So they decided to band together and fight for their parental rights. Pretty compelling, right? It's hard to argue with moms. The GOP knows that. And that's why they've weaponized our reverence for motherhood by propping up Moms for Liberty — the “grassroots” organization that's leading the charge in the culture wars in American public schools. In the summer of 2022, Hungary's prime minister, Viktor Orban, flew to Texas to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Onstage, his tirades against immigration, gender studies, and LGBTQ rights were met with roars of approval. Orban has made it his mission to codify traditional family values into law—and dismantle democracy in the process. American conservatives are taking note. And paving the way for these extremist policies is a group of social media "momfluencers" touting the glory of traditional family life. Are Moms for Liberty and #tradwives the harbingers of a backslide when it comes to women's rights...and American democracy? Moms for Liberty didn't appear out of thin air. They're building on a long history of white, conservative women who, for decades, have used their motherhood as a tool for political credibility. And it all started in 1960s California, where thousands of middle-class moms transformed into suburban warriors and helped build the modern-day conservative movement. This season's cover art features a photograph by Jonathan Wilkins.White Picket Fence is supported by Planned Parenthood. The image of mothers — particularly white suburban mothers — has always carried a lot of weight in American politics. But why? This season, we're exploring the political potency of motherhood. We'll investigate how right-wing groups like Moms for Liberty are making headlines by calling for classroom restrictions on discussions of race, gender, and sexuality. Their agenda is harmful, but their methods have proven effective. And we're investigating how progressive moms can harness the power of motherhood for justice — and the risks that come with it.This season's cover art features a photograph by Jonathan Wilkins.

On this episode of the Bear Grease Podcast we're on part two in our Holt Collier series and looking into the second section of his life, from the age of 20 to his mid-60s, which were defined by gunfights, cowboying and bear hunting. Holt was a former slave turned confederate soldier, he was acquitted of the murder of a white man after the civil war, and he made a lot of money as a market bear hunter in the primeval swamps of Mississippi. Holt was buddies with presidents, governors and outlaws – he became an accomplished cowboy in Texas while running from the vigilante justice of those that wanted him hung. Holt was married three times, was a deputy sheriff, his best bear dog was named Mandy, and he had a baseball team named after him. And, he guided President Teddy Roosevelt on the hunt that created the global icon of the “Teddy Bear” (we'll talk about that on episode three). We've interviewed author, Minor Ferris Buchannan who's written the only book about Holt Collier, Hank Burdine who acts as a guardian of Holt's legacy, and Jonathan Wilkins – an African American outfitter in the Delta. You wouldn't believe Holt's story if it wasn't the truth, he's surrounded by controversy and irony, but one thing is for certain – he was an extraordinary and brilliant man and his legacy deserves to sit with the kings of American culture. We're in search of learning who this man Holt Collier was and I really doubt you're going to want to miss this. On this week's episode of the Bear Grease [Render], Clay and the gang circle up to talk about the slave, soldier, and bearhunter, Holt Collier. But first: Brent gets sentimental with a good-luck charm that he carries with him everywhere. Misty clarifies her stance on tattoos. Isaac shows off his new boots. Gary extols the virtues of love above all else. Clay tells us about getting stuck in an apple tree wearing nothing but his Coon Light and a pair of drawers. And you're not going to want to miss special guest Jonathan Wilkins of Black Duck Revival, give us his perspective on the enigmatic Holt Collier. On this episode of the Bear Grease Podcast we'll be introduced to the man that president Theodore Roosevelt said was “the greatest hunter and guide I have ever known.” Many believe his legacy deserves to be on the American pedestal with the likes of Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. And some might even suggest he stand with the great African American civil rights pioneers early 20th century, based upon the standing he had in society and the life he lived. However, his life is riddled with mystery and controversy, but if you're like me, after you've been exposed to the energy, audacity and bravery of this life, you'll never – ever – forget the name Holt Collier. Holt Collier was born a slave and at age fourteen after he joined the Confederate Army and fought with distinction the entirety of the war. Afterwards he became a market hunter black bear. After the civil war he killed a white man in Mississippi, but no charges were pressed and was later accused of killing another one and was acquitted for the murder. He hob-knobbed with some of the most powerful men in the Delta gaining their loyalty and trust. But what he's most known for is guiding the then sitting president, Theodore Roosevelt on two bear hunts in the Mississippi Delta and gaining his friendship and respect. Holt Collier lassoed a bear and tied it to a tree for the president, who refused to shoot it, and from this the press coined the term “Teddy Bear” which has become a global term, and it would have never happened if it wasn't for the creative grit of a black man named, Holt Collier. Undoubtedly, Holt's life doesn't fit into anybody's mold and I think that's what qualifies him as a great American. He lived an almost unbelievable life. On this episode we'll interview Minor Ferris Buchannon, Hank Burdine and Jonathan Wilkins to try to understand who Holt was. Catfish are an iconic American fish, loved by many, hated by some. I talk with my friend Jonathan Wilkins of Black Duck Revival about catfish, and we range from mechanical details on how to catch them to cooking and prepping them to the cultural baggage catfish can sometimes bring with them to the dinner table.
I'm so excited to invite you to my conversation with modern-day Renaissance man, Jonathan Wilkins. Jonathan is a former firefighter and landscape designer turned professional hunter, outdoor guide, chef, podcaster, historian, musician, and writer. Currently, Jonathan operates Black Duck Revival, a hunting lodge in Brinkley, Arkansas, where he offers stays, excursions, and educational experiences. The business came out of a desire to bring together hunters of all backgrounds and experiences to support and learn from one another. Jonathan grew up in the city and started hunting, fishing and foraging as an adult. He immediately fell in love with learning different historic and modern processes to acquire wild food. Hunting has strengthened Jonathan's connection with the natural world and he is passionate about encouraging others to reclaim their own self-sufficiency practices. In our conversation we speak about embracing discomfort to expand your horizons, the meditative and healing benefits of hunting, advice for anyone wanting to hunt/catch/or forage wild food, and how to build mutual respect and community in a rural area. This is a story about participating fully in your life, turning your passion into your profession, growth through challenge, and the value of integrative self-reliance.To read his full feature visit: www.urbanexodus.com/blog

Evan and Brad take a catfishing trip to Arkansas and link up with Jonathan Wilkins of Black Duck Revival. The trio discusses sourcing your own wild food and the guys build their perfect fried catfish plate. @blackduckrevival www.blackduckrevival.com
“I never found a place I belong, so I'm making one.” Jonathan Wilkins is the founder of Black Duck Revival, a hunting and fishing guide service and simple lodge – built by his own two hands from an old church building in Brinkley, Arkansas. Jonathan is also a father and husband, a next-level forager and cook, a writer and working man. As he wrote in an essay for Outdoor Life last winter, “I am a Black man. Actually, I am biracial, but I live in a place where that nuance of truth is, most often, not afforded me.” Jonathan's story, and the story of Black Duck Revival, is an American journey, a reclaiming of heritage, a celebration of family, hunting and fishing in the beautiful and haunted lands of the mighty Arkansas Delta.
This week, Clay Newcomb sits around the fire with Jonathan Wilkins and Natalie Krebs of Outdoor Life at the Black Duck Revival goose camp in Brinkley, Arkansas. The conversation flows from why Natalie lived in New York City and her career as a writer, all the way to the nitty gritty of Arkansas goose hunting. Clay ends the podcast with a sad story of a buck that slipped through his hands. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jonathan Wilkins of Black Duck Revival and Clay Newcomb have a discussion about the history of African American hunting in the South, but more importantly, they discuss the historical issues that have led to low participation of African Americans in modern hunting. The discussion flows into racism, its roots, the roots of racism in modern hunting and Jonathan gives insightful commentary on race issues in general. The discussion is framed around a book called "Hunting and Fishing in the New South" by Scott Giltner, which is an incredible book that every outdoors person should read. What will the Black Duck Revival for January 23-26th 2020 be like? Was it hard to blindly reach out to people for the Revival? People know deep down whether they have earned something or not. Does he have plans for another Revival? Nothing but struggle is not a receipt for growth. Jonathan Wilkins talks about fishing in his area. 3 Key Points: There is a reward within itself to improving from being a novice hunter to intensifying your knowledge. Your standards for success will evolve and keep changing. Access plays a big role in people getting involved in duck hunting. Tweetable Quotes: “The first couple of times I went duck hunting somebody took me and we just hunted some kinds of flooded weed fields and shot some shovelers and that is what got me hooked.” – Jonathan Wilkins “Everything went right. I went into timber that I had been studying and I had learned. I was using knowledge from years past. I got in there and called ducks down. I think I did a good job. I worked big groups of ducks.” – Jonathan Wilkins “I can tell the difference between a log that has been ripped up by a bear and one that has been rotted up or torn into by an armadillo or something.” – Jonathan Wilkins Resources Mentioned: The Bryant Land Country Podcast Follow Bryant Land on social media: Linkedin | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube Black Duck Revival: blackduckrevival.com Black Duck Revival Social Media: Instagram

"ScarabMon is a new tool and framework for simplifying web application pentests. It makes the process of finding many common webapp flaws much easier. The user simply navigates the target site while using the WebScarab proxy and ScarabMon constantly updates the user with information on discovered flaws. ScarabMon is written in Python and all code and modules will be released at the conference. ScarabMon is alseasily extensible, with useful checks often only requiring 5-10 lines of Python code. I wrote ScarabMon because I couldn't find anything like it. Historically the standard web proxies have been @Stake's WebProxy (which is totally unavailable anymore as Symantec killed it after the acquisition), SpikeProxy and WebScarab. Those have have recently been joined by twother apps, WebScarab-NG and Pantera. The latter are not ready for serious usage yet. Pantera development seems thave stalled and WebScarab-NG is missing major features, though it shows the most promise. The latest date on any of the SPIKEProxy files is from 2003. Sbasically everyone uses WebScarab for web application pen tests. WebScarab is obnoxious tprogram for, as you have twrite dozens of lines of Java code (BeanShell) for the simplest tasks. BeanShell is alsoften unstable. ScarabMon is currently designed twork with WebScarab, but could be ported twork with any of the above should the need arise. Instead of acting as a proxy, it just monitors the output of the proxy and opportunistically performs tests. Some tests are things people have seen before in other tools (like finding directories that support PUT) and others aren't anything I've seen in any other tool such as finding values that were set as cookies over SSL that later wind up as a query string parameter. The best thing is that you get all of this for free. You don't have tchange *anything* about your current testing methodology. You just run ScarabMon in the background and it sees the servers and files you're accessing and generates findings.
