Blackbird PLC (AIM:BIRD, OTC:BBRDF) CEO Ian McDonough, chair Anne de Kerckhove and non-executive director Youri Hazanov joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion to discuss the strong progress that the company has made with its flagship elevate.io platform and new and recent board appointments. Unveiling the company's interim results, McDonough highlighted the company's involvement in high-profile events like the Paris Summer Games while acknowledging a 30% drop in top-line growth due to non-renewed deals. However, he shared exciting news about renewed partnerships, including Univision and CBS, and a strong second half. In particular, the conversation focused on elevate.io, a tool designed to streamline video editing and collaboration for content creators. McDonough shared that the platform has grown from 800 to 1,800 verified users in just five days following a campaign using Google AdWords. He attributed this growth to the product's key features and its appeal to creators. De Kerckhove also shared her motivation for joining Blackbird, citing her experience in the gaming and ad-tech industries. She highlighted the importance of providing content creators with efficient tools, allowing them to focus on creating rather than technical barriers. Hazanov emphasised Elevate's potential to transform the creator economy, drawing on his experience from YouTube and Jellysmack. Don't miss the full video to hear more insights from Blackbird PLC's leadership. Blackbird PLC CEO Ian McDonough joins Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with insights into the company's 2023 performance and upcoming milestones. McDonough described 2023 as a year of progress, highlighting Blackbird's significant presence in major sporting events due to its unparalleled speed and stability as a video editor. The company's technology was employed across numerous high-profile sports events, including all Tennis Grand Slams, the Super Bowl, the Women's World Cup, the Ryder Cup, and the Rugby World Cup, with plans to extend its use to the Summer Games in 2024. The discussion also introduced elevate.io , a new product aimed at the creator economy, which is a level below the professional sphere where Blackbird operates. Designed with input from 300 potential users, elevate.io targets independent filmmakers, podcasters, corporate video creators, and others within a market valued at approximately $250 billion, according to Goldman Sachs, expected to grow to $500 billion by 2027. The specific segment for tools and services is anticipated to expand from $20 billion to $180 billion by 2030. To support elevate.io 's growth, Blackbird has welcomed a new director, Anne de Kerckhove, and raised over a million pounds. The product, due for general release at the end of March, will start as a freemium model and aims to build a user community through its multiplayer and collaborative features, leveraging AWS for scalability. For 2024, McDonough foresees a pivotal period of learning from the market and community feedback to refine and expand elevate.io's offerings, with a focus on agile development based on user needs. #BlackbirdPLC #IanMcDonough #VideoEditing #ElevateIO #CreatorEconomy #SportingEvents #TechInnovation #SoftwareLaunch #MarketGrowth #AgileDevelopment #proactiveinvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

In 1988 I broadcast a series of programs called “Literacy: The Medium and the Message”which I have already posted on this site. The series explored the latest scholarship on a theme first broached at the University of Toronto by Harold Innis: how the techniques by which we communicate shape the way we think about the world. It was recorded at a conference organized by two University of Toronto professors, David Olson and Derrick de Kerckhove, and held at the University of Toronto in 1987. Five years later David Olson organized a two-day workshop which posed the topic of modes of thought, or mentalities, in more general terms - looking not just at the cognitive implications of orality and literacy but at all the ways in which our styles and habits of thought are formed. He assembled psychologists, anthropologists, historians and philosopher interested in this question, and, knowing of my continuing interest in the subject, he again invited me to observe and report on the proceeedings. The result was a book called Modes of Thought, edited by David and Nancy Torrance, which was published by Cambridge in 1996, and a series of four radio programs, also called “Modes of Thought” which I broadcast in 1995. Their theme, to say the least, remains current. The participants are as follows: Part One: David Olson, Brian Stock, and Myron TumanPart Two: Jerome Bruner, Carole Feldman, and Keith OatleyPart Three: Geoffrey Lloyd, Paul Thagard, and Deanna KuhnPart Four: Scott Attran and Ian Hacking

In Between Two Ages, the first long series I did for Ideas in early 1981, I began to explore the unique character of our historical moment, and to advance the idea that only a radical change of mind could respond to its demands. Three years later, I got a chance to follow up that initial effort with the present series. Its organizing image or paradigm is the idea of a new age – the way in which I then spoke about my dawning recognition that received social and political forms are quite unable to grasp humanity’s new situation. The intervening thirty-four years have made me more tentative, but, if you take away a certain brash, post-1960's confidence that a reconciliation between men and women, modernity and tradition, humanity and nature was on the horizon, there is much in that way of looking at things that I would still affirm today. Certainly the sparkling cast I managed to assemble makes this series worth revisiting. Among its luminaries are Northrop Frye, Raimundo Panikkar, Robert J. Lifton, Father Thomas Berry and many others, whose names I have listed below. One of the characteristic features of the documentary form, as I’ve observed when re-introducing other old series as well, is that many different points of view are made to align and march, more or less, in the same direction. A few years later, I would have treated the many thinkers represented here separately, and tried to understand what was distinctive in each one’s approach. I don’t mean I have papered over their differences here, or that there was anything promiscuous about the way I assembled these particular people. Each one was, in some way, a teacher to me, and each one’s work bore on the themes that I wanted to develop. I mean only that, once one has interviewed so many people, the challenge of integrating them all into a more or less coherent structure, leaves little room for the contextualization of each speaker, or for consideration of all the ways in which they differ from one another, and from the consenus, however rough, that I was imposing on them by smushing them all together in one program. That said, I still find that these shows make interesting listening. The dramatis personae is as follows: Part One: Dhyane Ywahoo, Northrop Frye, Joseph Brown, Raimundo Panikkar, Derrick de Kerckhove, Thomas Berry, Ewart CousinsPart Two: Dhyani Ywahoo, Joseph Brown, Richard Lee, Ashley Montagu, Stanley Diamond, Joseph CampbellPart Three: Walter Odajnyk, Robert J. Lifton, Ira Progroff, Jean Houston, Richard MossPart Four: David Spangler, Northrop Frye, Raimundo Panikkar, Ewart Cousins, Thomas Berry, Matthew Fox

(Photo courtesy of Michael Byers) It's a very small island in the middle of the Arctic ocean. Trouble is it's smack dab in the middle of the maritime boundary separating Greenland, i.e. Denmark, and Canada. Small, barren and uninhabited, both countries claim it, and have done so for years. Now both Canada and Denmark/Greenland have decided to establish a task force to resolve this friendly dispute. Levon speaks to Canadian Arctic expert Michael Byers who says the longstanding dispute seems to come back in the news whenever a national election looms, but says the island dispute should be very easy to resolve. Canada's (almost) Official Bird- gets its real name back The Canada Jay is not shy and will land right on your camera even without the temptation of food. (Gord Belyea) Canada, like many countries, has an official animal, the beaver and even a second official animal , the Canadian horse,. In fact, Canada, and each province, like many countries and states, also have official animals, trees, or other plants, and birds. Canada so far hasn't named an official national bird, although the Royal Canadian Geographical Society held a nation wide contest and the grey jay won. Except, it really shouldn't be called the grey jay. A long standing effort to recover the bird's real name has finally born fruit. Lynn spoke with ornithological expert David Bird about the re-naming of the "Canada Jay". U.S. to withdraw from Joint Comphensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Iran nuclear deal Several world leaders and top government officials including John Kerry of the US and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif are shown in 2015 announcing the deal worked out to end Iran's nuclear weapons programme for at least a decade. Source: CBC news Two weeks ago, U.S. President Trump announced the country was withdrawing from the JCPOA saying it was a bad deal and did not go nearly far enough in limiting Iran's nuclear weapons development goals and capability. That would mean the re-imposition of harsh sanctions. Iran would like to keep the deal to avoid such sanctions and has expressed willingness to re-negotiate although with an underlying threat that it might restart its uranium enrichment efforts if a deal isn't reached quickly. Most other countries, including Canada, expressed dismay at the U.S decision. In this excerpt, international affairs expert Ferry de Kerckhove from the University of Ottawa says Canada's opinion carries little influence but agrees the U.S decision is ill considered. Lobsters and Snow Leopards Marie-Claude is back from a trip to the Maritime province of New Brunswick and show photos of her experience with lobsters and a lobster recipe, and we have a brief look at Lynn's story along with the cutest photo of baby snow leopards born in the Winnipeg Zoo.
