Spotify has rebranded its Spotify for Podcasters platform into the newly minted Spotify for Creators. This update, launched in November 2024, aims to provide video podcasters with more tools to grow and monetize their shows.  In this episode, Eric dives into what this rebrand means, the new features Spotify has rolled out, and whether or not anyone will actually use them.  Spotify for Creators is Spotify's attempt to shake things up in the podcast world, especially for video creators. They've added a couple of new features designed to make it easier to promote and monetize podcasts.  Sponsor Alert: This podcast is proudly sponsored by Riverside, our go-to platform for recording podcasts online. We're big fans of their AI-powered tools, including features for generating show notes, creating transcripts, and our favorite—"Magic Clips." Magic Clips uses AI to effortlessly transform your video content into shareable, short-form vertical clips. It's a game-changer for repurposing your content. Ready to give it a try? Use promo code CLIPPED at checkout to save 20%! First, there's the new video clip upload tool, which allows creators to share vertical short-form clips on Spotify itself. Second, they've introduced a monetization option for video podcasts, though the requirements and revenue split might make you pause.  While we applaud Spotify for trying to innovate, the practicality of these features raises questions—like who is really searching Spotify for video clips when platforms like Instagram and YouTube are already dominating the space? Spotify For Creators Key Features: Vertical Video Clips Upload short-form, vertical videos to promote your podcast directly on Spotify. Ideal for teasers, promos, and highlights, but let's be honest—do people really consume short-form content on Spotify? Full-Length Video Uploads: Not a new feature, but a reminder: you can upload your entire video podcast to Spotify so users can choose between audio or video. Monetization Info: Host your podcast on Spotify (no external hosting allowed). Publish at least 12 episodes. Achieve 10,000 listening hours and 2,000 unique listeners on Spotify in the past 30 days. 50/50 split between Spotify and the creator. Ads are programmatic, not host-read, and may lack customization. Spotify is making moves to push podcasting forward, especially for video creators, but with strong competition from platforms like YouTube and TikTok, it's uncertain whether these features will gain traction or truly impact the podcasting landscape. But what if you could learn from someone currently implementing successful content strategies and seeing real results?  In this episode, content creation expert Chris Van Vliet joins me to discuss creating viral vertical content. Chris has achieved remarkable success in creating content across various platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, organically growing his following without running paid ads. With his insights and experiences, we can gain valuable tips and tricks to enhance our content creation journey. 1. Following the Success of an Organic Marketing Expert Chris has mastered creating engaging content across multiple platforms without relying on paid advertisements. He shares insights into his content creation journey and unveils the strategies that have led to his incredible growth. 2. From Trauma Beliefs to Nitty Gritty Aspects Throughout the interview, Chris dives deep into various aspects of content creation. He discusses topics ranging from trauma beliefs and personal experiences to the nitty-gritty technical details. Chris shares his journey as a broadcaster and how he became a successful content creator. 3. The Power of Niching Down One significant takeaway from Chris's journey is the importance of niching down. By focusing on a specific niche, Chris was able to attract a dedicated audience and establish himself as an expert in that field. He emphasizes the need to speak the same language as your audience and tailor your content to their interests. 4. The Impact of Short Videos: A Taste Test for Success Chris shares his approach to creating short videos for social media platforms like YouTube shorts, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. He explains how he clips exciting and memorable moments from his podcast interviews and provides a taste test of his content. These bite-sized videos act as breadcrumbs, enticing viewers to explore more of his content. 5. Engaging an Audience through Educational and Entertaining Content Chris highlights the importance of engaging your audience from the beginning of your content. He suggests that videos should either be educational or entertaining, ideally both. By targeting these two key elements, creators increase the likelihood of sharing their content and reaching a wider audience. 6. Don't Sleep on Facebook: The Importance of Maintaining a Presence Chris reveals the potential of Facebook as a content distribution platform. Although many perceive Facebook as outdated or irrelevant, he advises against underestimating its reach and growth potential. He has travelled the world reporting from events like the Oscars, Grammys and the Cannes Film Festival. Chris dives deep into exciting topics with his trademark conversational approach, making it feel like two old friends catching up. So much has changed on Amazon since we started helping sellers on the platform in 2016 (I can't believe we've been in the Amazon game for 8 years). In this episode, I chat with Trenton Bodenbach, OMG Amazon Strategist. We discuss some new potential game-changers on Amazon for 2024, strategy, and who's winning and who's not on the platform. Here's a quick look at a few of our topics:1) Vertical Video for Sponsored Brand Video. Sponsored Brand Video is one of our favorite Amazon ad types. It's usually in the top 2-3 most effective ad types for the brands we work with. Now, it supports vertical video. Likely, you have more vertical video than anything else. Now, you can use it on Amazon. 2) Shop on Facebook. Amazon controls this for now, but likely there's more to come. This will allow shoppers on Facebook to buy products directly from Amazon without leaving the Facebook app. 3) Amazon's continued growth and dominance and what it means.4) Amazon storefronts, posts, and other tools for branding. We believe that building your BRAND on Amazon is the ultimate key to success. Not just selling stuff. And Amazon has more tools than ever to help you build your brand.

Send in your question via text to 1-800-485-3139. Question #1 (02:14):  You're both busy, successful individuals, managing families, social, church, coffee and even scents. I'm just wondering what you two use to manage your tasks/outlining/mind-mapping. Is it Evernote? Notion? A simple spreadsheet?  Question #2 (13:03): My goal on vertical video is to get it under 60 seconds which I'm usually at 58-59 on sermon clips. I've noticed clips under 30 seconds possibly doing better. Have you seen a better goal of 15-30 seconds for vertical video? Question #3 (22:39): When you encourage social sermon posts, you point out the importance of the hook at the intersection of faith and culture. In my position, I have influence on our sermon series titles. I'm not sure it makes sense that our sermon series titles should be the same as a social sermon hook, but I feel the faith and culture principle could still apply. Am I putting too much thought into something no one cares about?  Question #4 (29:08): Heard you say you never check bags (I think). How do you pack for international travel with all of your camera gear?

Content creator Sarah Palmyra says influencers want more affiliate options on short-form vertical video

The Digiday Podcast

For beauty influencer Sarah Palmyra, Instagram Reels has historically packed the most punch when it comes to driving sales of her favorite products. Last June, Palmyra posted an unsponsored, short-form vertical video about her love of Soft Service's Smoothing Solution product. It was originally posted on TikTok, and later republished on her Instagram Reels account, and according to the company, the product sold out due to an overwhelming number of customers coming to the site via her Instagram post. And yet, most of the brands Palmyra works with still want her to create ads for her TikTok channel, rather than Instagram. As of now, the platform where her brand deals run doesn't so much matter to her, given the fact that even viral videos, like the one about Soft Services, don't often translate to much in the way of affiliate commerce commissions. The inability to easily link to product pages within a short-form vertical video on TikTok or Reels tends to result in broken affiliate links and lost attribution, she explained. "[Commerce] is just a small piece of the pie for me," said Palmyra on the fourth and final episode of the Digiday Podcast's Creator Series. But it's a revenue stream she said she'd like to see grow. "It would allow all of us to take on less sponsorships, which I know our followers would love as well. I only sponsor products that I absolutely love, but still I know that my audience would love to see much less," she said. In this episode, Palmyra discusses how Instagram is able to accomplish much of what advertisers in the beauty industry are hoping to achieve with their social media campaigns, but still seem to prioritize TikTok. She also covers how earning money as a content creator in the short-form vertical video boom is still heavily dependent on said brand deals.

Send in your question via text to 1-800-485-3139. Question #1 (01:07): Here are my 2 questions: 1. I still love my church and the people I work with, and I am compelled to obey my leadership even when I don't agree with them. But how can I get over my frustration and keep moving forward? 2. How can I make engaging reels (that the algorithm will actually promote) without using Instagram audio? Question #2 (16:40): How many sermon videos a week would be good to post on YouTube shorts or Instagram Reels? Should we make a difference between Reels and Shorts? Question #3 (25:38): A couple months ago, I implemented the Nucleus Prayer Hub on our church's website. We put it into our video announcements for 3 weeks in a row to try an encourage people to sign up. We are a church of about 125 and It's now been a month since those announcements, and only 7 people have signed up (2 of which signed up to submit requests, and 2 are admins). Is there a better way I could promote this or encourage people to sign up? Question #4 (34:28): What are some holiday traditions you two are looking forward to in the coming month?
