rWotD Episode 2638: Weng Fanggang Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Wednesday, 24 July 2024 is Weng Fanggang.Weng Fanggang (Chinese: 翁方綱) (1733 - 1818) was a Chinese calligrapher, literary critic, philosopher, and poet during the Qing dynasty.A native of Beijing's Daxing District, Weng came to the attention of the Qianlong Emperor who was impressed with Weng's translation of the Peach Blossom Spring (桃花源 Tao Hua Yuan) by Tao Yuanming into the Manchu language. He was employed at court as a junior compiler, and later rose to become a member of the Grand Secretariat. Despite holding government posts in Shandong, Jiangxi and Jiangsu, Weng spend most of his professional life in Beijing, so as to be close to the literati of his day.Weng proposed the imposition of classical rules on poetry, in an attempt to curb what he saw as the weaker, more abstract works of his contemporaries, particularly those who followed the style of Wang Yangming. He was opposed to Wang Yangming's philosophy that man had an innate goodness, as he felt this detracted from the achievements of historical saints and Confucian worthies. Despite his preference for formal structure, Weng admired the works of Li Bai and wrote passionate defences of Li Bai's work. He also favoured Su Shi's work, and named a room in his personal library after one of Su's poetry collections that Weng obtained in 1773. His views on poetry led him to create the Jili pai or "School of Musculature", a system of poetic criticism that focused on scholarly contemplation of universal patterns and structures.Weng was also noted for his calligraphy, which was modelled after that of Ouyang Xun and Yu Shinan. He specialised in lishu script, and was regarded as having the same degree of skill as Liu Yong. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:11 UTC on Wednesday, 24 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Weng Fanggang on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Emma.

Miraculous healing can and does occur, and there is a space for it in the medical field.   Learn how to heal your aches and pains in this interview with Dr. Bradley Nelson(@Dr. Nelson) as he shares the secrets of how to create freedom from pain in your body.  His books The Emotion Code and now The Body Code System are known worldwide as a go-to manual for healing.   “It is time to start taking back our own ability to work on our bodies. There's so much that we can do. Most of the time, we don't need drugs, most of the time, we don't need surgery.” - Dr. Bradley Nelson   Key Takeaways: The Emotion Code: Einstein said that the future of medicine will be based on frequencies. The Emotion Code is a transformative healing method that detects where negative emotions are stored. The subconscious mind knows what the blocked emotions are. Once they have been identified, they can be released by yourself or an Emotion Code Practitioner.   Listening to Your Body: If you are in chronic pain, whether it is physical or emotional, you can learn a lot about how you suppress, process, and engage with your emotions. To learn from your state of mind or body, you must slow down, stop, and listen to what the underlying message is. This is where a therapist, somatic practitioner, or other practitioners in the healing arts can assist you in liberating the insistent loop that keeps you locked in a state of suffering.    Releasing Trapped Emotions: By finding and removing trapped emotional energy in the body, people start to feel like a different kind of person. They feel more aligned in their bodies, minds, and hearts; there is a sense of returning home. There is a sense of freedom and ease created by the space left once the trapped emotions leave the body. 6 Types of Imbalances: 1) Energetic imbalances, 2) Nervous system imbalances, 3) Stored toxins, 4) Nutritional and lifestyle imbalances, 5.)Skeletal and Musculature misalignments, and 6) Pathogens.   Sponsors and Promotions:   Zbiotics: ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.  Go to zbiotics.com/DIVINE to get 15% off your first order, and use code DIVINE    Lectric eBikes:  Shift into a new way of getting out there with a Lectric eBike. First, I want to give you an offer that I am posting nowhere else. I have sort of gathered all of the nutrition resources from everything I've ever made. Um, which is a lot between the gym and my own nutrition work and everything that I've done with 23 hour health. Um, there's a shit ton of these like cheat sheet, grocery lists, sample meal plan type things. And I put them all on Patrion. So that link will be in the description of the episode. There is a special offer for just you guys. Um, there is only a few of them available. You will see it. It's very obvious. It's the first pricing tier do not pay for the more expensive one. I repeat, do not pay for the more expensive onethere's a cheaper one. Do that one. So today we're talking about strength. We're going to go into what that means. I want to welcome Robert to the show. Hello, Rob. Hello? Hello? Hello. We are going to get right into it. What is strength and what does that mean for most people? . Does being muscular mean being strong. I mean it doesn't. Not mean that, but it doesn't. It does not the same. Right. . How strong does the average person need to be like, and how do they actually compare where they're at? Like, it's probably not safe for everyone to go, just test their one rep max back squat. So how do you know if you're strong enough? What does that mean for the average person who wants to be very functional in their day-to-day life? Oh, there, you have to figure out what is strength, I mean, it's the ability to create force, and force. Is what in lifestyle and every day for the average parent, what is that? .  You need to be stronger than the forces that you experienced in your everyday life. So, I mean, If you trip and fall, you need to be stronger than it takes to stand back up. You should probably be strong enough that lifting the groceries and the big bag of dog food is not something you need a warm up for. She'd be like a relatively low percentage of your strength to get something from the ground to your ways your, from the ground to your shoulder, like. That that's why you would train, strengthened me on top of that.  People experience a lot of pain when they're not strong because they used. Musculature, they use patterns that are not literally not stronger than gravity or not stronger than the object that they're trying to do.  The other thing is just, you know, people living a life that doesn't make them stronger on a long enough time horizon. People get hurt and you get hurt living a regular life because you are, you're not stronger than the stuff you're asking your body to do. The number of people who get hurt shoveling because. How often do you twist and sort of lift? I don't know, like 10 to 40 pounds. Dozens of times you probably only do it. Three times a year. I think. Most people have experience with that. Like at some point or another, you do something stupid and you're like, why did I go shovel for five hours straight? Like my back is killing me for three days after like we've all overdone it. And I think that the whole point is really to make it harder to overdo it. You should be able to have a level of preparation that makes it, so those things don't end that way. . How do people assess where they're at? I think like anything you want to know what the goal is like, are you trying to be strong enough to go to the grocery store? Are you trying to be strong enough to like, When your exercise class. I think that a lot of people want something in between. Right. Yeah. Most people, I think most people in my audience for the very least. So let's kind of stick there.   Support the show

Wellness Insights Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 7, 2023 2:34

Answering questions and helping people is just in my DNA. In today's podcast, I go over treatments for Plantar Fasciitis. I am demonstrating the office techniques with Carah Nowell.Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:04] So I want to go over how we treat Plantar Fasciitis in the office the first thing we're going to do is we're going to take the shoelace and we're going to wrap a band through it. The reason was at the foot to make this loop so that you can basically tie it to your shoe they are going to be tied tightly. We're a hold over here and then all the patience to do is pull the toe back as far as they can and bring it back to forward bring it back as far as they can there's going to do this over and repeatedly.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:37] So if you're at home and you're doing this over and over and over again, you can tie this to a chair, you have to make hold it, you can tie it to a door however you want to do it. But the whole point is that we get the Musculature of the Fisciniariatis to start to work.Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:50] Now, the band doesn't have to be very strong because we're not trying to build the muscle we're just trying to activate the muscle so it sends information to the brain about what's going on in the lower extremity.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:01] So the more we move, the more we are activating the Fisciniariatis, the more information goes to the brain and the brain will then see the message back down to the calf and it makes it calm down, reducing the pressure on the Achilles tendon, reducing the pressure on the heel and the Plantar Facia.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:16] So we'll just keep moving, keep moving, keep moving as we do this, three sets of ten, three sets of 15, six, seven times a day, it will really, really loosen up all the function of the ankle and the function of the Plantar Facia.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:29] Now, again, the reason we get this is because we push down with the toe too much acting, the calf muscle too much, the tone is too high here, balls up, pulls up on the Achilles Tendon and Achilles heel and pulls up on the calcaneus just enough to flatten the Plantar Fascia and implants.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:45] So the more we can move this, more we activate, not strengthen, but activate the muscle of the injured to realize the better it will help decrease the tone of the calf. So this is basically what we're going to do you guys can do this at home this is a great at home exercise. I have all of my Haitian students while we're working on Plantar fasciitis and this makes me go a lot faster.Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:05] So if you're at home or you're trying to do something that's going to help out your Plantar Fasciitis, this exercise for the answer to the balance is the best way to go so that we can decrease the tone of the calf. The above is an automated transcription and we would refer you to the video for any errors.Check out Chalmers Pillarsofwellness.com for Wellness updates! Understanding the functional anatomy of the knee in barbell training is an important aspect of biomechanics that powerlifters, physical therapists, chiropractors, strength coaches, and doctors should understand.    When you understand how the knee joint is structured and functions you'll have a better understanding of why certain ways of performing the squat and deadlift are more optimal than others. This will also help you understand the normal forces on the knee joint and how we can combine our knowledge of powerlifting programming and barbell movement mechanics to maintain healthy, pain free movements despite atypical structure and joint degeneration.    In this episode of the PRS Podcast, PRS Clinical Coaches, Drs. Rori Alter, Alyssa Haveson, and John Petrizzo discuss the role of the knee joint and its surrounding structures in the mechanics of barbell training.   This episode is an educational experience for barbell trainees, powerlifters, Crossfitters, weightlifters, and other strength lifters to deep dive into the knee joint.   If you're a chiropractor, physical therapist, medical doctor, strength coach, or student clinician, this episode is a great review and application tutorial regarding the knee and barbell training.   In this episode we discuss the: Joints that make up the knee Normal movement of the knee joint Internal structures and surfaces of the knee Musculature responsible for knee flexion and extension How the hip affects the knee Patellofemoral movement ITB pain   Resources mentioned in this episode: Pain & Injuries Podcast Series Part 1 Pain & Injuries Podcast Series Part 2 Pain & Injuries Podcast Series Part 3   If you're enjoying our podcast, please leave us a review on Apple or Spotify.   Join our Facebook Community for free form checks, live Q&As & more: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PRS.Barbell.Mastery    Got questions or guests you'd like to hear on the show? Submit them here: https://forms.gle/7Vu2HmgHoeQY9xM59    Get in touch with the show!
