"Bloom" and Songs by CECA

Welcome back to Artbeat Radio!     Please enjoy the latest piece composed by CECA Program service-users. “Bloom” was written by service users when confronted with a handful of garden blooms one morning, spawning inspiration. When beginning the songwriting process, service users were encouraged to experience and notice details of the Amaryllis flower (picked from the garden). With the Amaryllis in-mind, they were excited to write a love song highlighting the beauty of the flower and the beauty we find in others around us. Service users composed, orchestrated, engineered and wrote lyrics used for this piece by voting or deciding as a group. This piece was written and composed by Jesus Quiroz, Michael Hinckley, Dakari Johnson, and Johnny Galda.    This new piece is accompanied by two CECA original pieces from our “Quarantunes” series. You'll hear “Feelin the Sunshine” which was written in February 2021. This piece is accompanied by an original lyric video which you can find here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C8WsoiIUAE    The third and final piece will get you moving! It's an upbeat instrumental piece which was written in January 2021 called “I love you from Brazil”    Thanks for listening and tune in next time!       Follow us on instagram @artbeatradio    For more information about our organization, please visit our website www.ableartswork.org       0:15 “Bloom”   Lyrics:   My love for you just blooms   Marvelous petal  Sweet scent   Found you one day  Ever since  My love for you just blooms   Happiness in my heart   Warm like the sun   Wrap me in your love  My love for you just blooms     1:57 Feelin the Sunshine  Lyrics:  I got my horchata   You got your strawberry vegan ice cream   We should grab some burgers  And go eat at our hot hot summer feast  It's our summer song Hee hee hee It's our summer song Hee hee hee  Let's meet at the ocean   And look out to the shiny sparkling sea  I wanna feel the sunshine  While hanging out with all my favorite peeps  It's our summer song Hee hee hee It's our summer song Hee hee he  We're gonna go camping   In our pink tree house  And watch the shooting stars   We'll go to raging waters  And conquer thunder rapids   And then we'll play X-box  Ha!    4:10 I love you from Brazil  Lyrics:  Te Amo   Aishiteru  Je T'aime   I love you

With all the talent and awards Julie Benko has received at such a young age, it begs the question: What can't she do? Julie proves that it's never too late… or too early to learn anything. Currently the Fanny Brice alternate in "Funny Girl" on Broadway, Julie shares her life as an actor and how she handles the hectic schedule that comes along with it. She also recalls doing a production of “Fiddler on the Roof” when she was younger which changed the trajectory of her family. Unlike most, she spent her time during the height of the pandemic doing performances online and raising money for various charities, including starting a series with her husband called, "Quarantunes" which also became the basis of their album “Hand in Hand” that was just released in August 2022. Initially scared of comedy, Fanny Brice was the role she never knew she wanted, but thanks to her friends' encouragement and help, Julie pushed through with the audition and eventually got the part. She talks about doing eight shows a week, what it's like being thrust into the spotlight, how she recovers and recharges, and the training that helped her in performing with ease. From acting and singing to writing and directing, Julie is set to do everything all at once and try other mediums too—all of which are motivated by her love for learning and passion for connecting with others. Julie Benko is an amazing actress, singer, writer, musician, director, and philanthropist based in NYC. She holds a BFA in Drama and an MFA in Acting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She currently plays as Fanny Brice in the Broadway show, "Funny Girl", and released her brand new album, "Hand in Hand" last August. Julie's stage credits include "Fiddler on the Roof", "Les Miserables", "Spring Awakening", "Once", "The Fantasticks", and "Rags" among others. She has also appeared in several films, including "Alberto", and "Unrequited Vanya". Apart from these, Julie is also a recipient of numerous nominations for her acting skills, including the Wilde Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical which she won for her performance as Girl in "Once". She also won the Gold Medal and the Johnny Mercer Award in the national American Traditions Vocal Competition. Her recent projects include writing, directing, and starring in her first short, "The Newlywed's Guide to Physical Intimacy", which won an Honorable Mention at its premiere July 2020 premiere at New Faces New Voices Film Festival. Her first full-length play, "The District," was also named a semifinalist at the 2022 Eugene O'Neil National Playwrights Conference. During the pandemic, Julie raised money for different charities through her "Quarantunes" musical duo series with her husband.  Connect with Julie: Twitter: @Jujujuliebee Instagram: @jujujuliebee TikTok: @jujujuliebee Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast TikTok: @thetheatrepodcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. The local music industry has had to say goodbye to significant gig spots that just couldn't survive the pandemic, no matter how well-loved they were. As the country prepares to ease restrictions, B-Side takes stock of what it's been like for local and independent musicians to collaborate and perform in a socially distanced world. “Collaborating online has taught us how to streamline our music creation process which we believe is a lesson we can take with us after the pandemic,” said Renzo R. Lumanog, vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the local alternative pop band Any Name's Okay. The band has performed in famed venues such as Route 196 on Katipunan Avenue, as well as in international music festivals in Taiwan. “A lot of musicians right now have either stopped making music, and there are some who have released more music than they ever have, there is a scale there.” In this B-Side episode, Mr. Lumanog talks to BusinessWorld reporter John Victor D. Ordoñez about venues closing down, people losing jobs, and musicians pursuing their passion. Recorded remotely on Jan. 28, 2022. Produced by John Victor D. Ordoñez, Jino D. Nicolas, and Sam L. You're listening to Artbeat Radio, a program by Able ARTS Work.   Brian: My name is Brian Corder and I'm a member of Able ARTS Work. I've been here since 2016, and I absolutely love it. This is my introduction to all 3 songs, and I hope you like it!   This is the song, “A Rush to the Shore”, and it's to the tune to the song “What a Wonderful World”. It's a-I've always liked that song, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. To me, it has a smooth sound. An easy relaxing flow.  If you want to see the music video for this song, please go to the Able ARTS Work YouTube channel, find the title-the video titled A Rush to the Shore. Thank you! And here it is!  *Intro to What a Wonderful World* *Brian sings*  I see houses  They look so nice they look like they Have a fresh coat of paint   And I think to myself What a wonderful sight  I see colors of pinwheels Blue, yellow and green wheels on a car Going round and round   And I think to myself What a wonderful sight  The Thanksgiving decorations So pretty on the ceiling So pretty are the faces Of people going by I see friends shaking hands Saying, "How do you do?" They're really saying "How do you like my face?"  Thank you For getting my iPad back With a little help from my friends  And I think to myself What a wonderful sight  Yes, I think to myself What a wonderful sight  *Outro music plays*   Brian: This song is let it be and it is one of my all-time favorite Beatles songs. Why I wrote this is it sounded so gentle in my mind and when I close my eyes, I picture my parents, my girlfriend, and me. All walking along the shore.   *Intro for Let it Be plays* *Brian sings*  When I think about tomorrow   it could be better than yesterday  Whisper words of wisdom, let it be  With help from my mom and dad coming to graduation  Jim and Marilee making me a best man     Memory, memory, memory, memory  As it comes to my mind, let it be  Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be  Whisper words of wisdom, let it be    And today will only be getting better,  And that's the way people agree  Whisper words of wisdom, let it be  Though sometimes I feel mad  There is still a chance that I'll bounce back  Turn frustration into happiness     Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be  Whisper words of wisdom, let it be  Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be  Whisper words of wisdom, let it be  *Outro music plays*   Brian: Hello Brian Corder again, here! And this is the last song “We are family” by Sister Sledge. Why I wrote this song was, again I was thinking about my whole familyl, not only my parents but Bruce, Jim and of course me, and I was introducing them to my girlfriend and they seemed to like her! And again, this is the same person, Brian Corder!   *Intro to We are Family plays* Brian sings  We are family, I've got Mom, Dad, Jim, Bruce with me  We are family, nice to take a walk with them  We are family, stop and take shots with your camera  We are family, nice to be in a relationship    Everyone could see that I was sad  When they passed away  And I fly just like a bird of a feather  I won't tell no lie  All of the people around me say  Can he be that strong   My family made me feel proud  I'm giving love to myself    We are family, I've got Mom, Dad, Jim, Bruce with me  We are family, nice to take a walk with them  We are family, stop and take shots with your camera  We are family, nice to be in a relationship Oh yeah  Living life is joyous  And I've just begun to create music in day program   I still think about Jim and remember how great he was And look at myself and think about how great I am  And how I treat my girlfriend  Yes, it's okay to feel angry, frustration, mad, and hurt sometimes          I have faith in me and the things I do   I won't go wrong, oh-no    This is my family jewel We are family, I've got Mom, Dad, Jim, Bruce with me  We are family, nice to take a walk with them  We are family, stop and take shots with your camera  We are family, nice to be in a relationship Oh yeah!  *Outro music plays*  Brian: Thank you guys for listening to all these songs. Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! You're listening to episode 22 of Quarantunes, where quarantine can't stop our creativity! In this episode, we'll hear musical expression from the artists at EPI. (0:16) “Happy Holiday Blues” - EPI musicians, Jamond Pearson, Adam Muraida, Elizabeth Correa, Emilio Zuniga, Roberto Lugardo, Rudolph (Rudy) Austin, Daniel Jacobs For this holiday number, the students in EPI the Musical, as well as guest stars from Curators of the Lost Art voted to create a piece that was both upbeat and sentimental, hence The Blues.  In writing this song, the group processed about what was most important to them this holiday, exploring ideas that they would like while showing gratitude for having the most important things that they need.  The lyrics consist of contributions from each student. Additionally, several of our artists can be heard performing featured solos that they recorded and edited in Logic Pro.  We hope you enjoy the Happy Holiday Blues spirit!   Well, I'd like to see a reindeer  Or Christmas Lights (Adam) A helpful troop of Elves (Elizabeth) Or Santa Claus tonight (Greco) But if I don't that would alright too  I got what I need it's the happy holiday Blues   And I'd love some new clothes (Elizabeth) Or my own big Horse (Adam) Some James Brown Tickets (Jamond) New decorations (Greco) But if I don't get them, I think I'm gonna make it through I got what I need it's the happy holiday blues   I'm happy because I've got what I need  Family, Love, and friends with me  I feel the music in my soul  Pumping that positive tune  That's why I got what I need with   the happy holiday blues   Well I'm craving some hot chocolate  Or Christmas Ham  Rice with butter  Or a Gingerbread Man  But if I can't eat them, I'll still feel full it true  I'm full with what I need it's the happy holiday blues  You know I'd love to play some Board Games  Or bake cookies  Decorate the tree  Match a Christmas movie But if I can't do that, I'll still have fun with you I got what I need it's the happy holiday blues  Featured Soloists  Jamond Pearson:  Vocal Riffs – “fun with you,” “positive tune,” “here comes Santa Claus too,” “Good Job Rudy,” “oh yeah” “Happy Holidays to you” “Holiday Blues..yeah!” Adam Muraida:  Xylophone solo  Conducted placement of snaps and guiro   Verbalization: “tree” and “horse”  Elizabeth Correa   Vocalization solo  Conducted placement of jingle bells and claps   Emilio Zuniga  Verbalization “YUM”  Roberto Lugardo Verbalization: “and that's the blues” Rudolph (Rudy) Austin:  Vocalization “UH”  Daniel Jacobs Vocalization   (4:16) “Holiday Song” - EPI Musicians, Carlos Arredondo, Joyce Go, Daniel Jacobs, Rita Komsky and Emilio Lopez This piece was created by the artists from EPI's Social Music Therapy Group in celebration of the holidays that each of them celebrate. The holidays that are included in this piece are Christmas and Hannukah. Each lyric is a holiday tradition from each of the artists with their family and friends. The artists created a list of traditions and placed them in a lyrical format to form a song. All lyrics were written by the artists and each artist contributed a vocal or instrumental improvisation into the piece.   I feel happy watching movies  Like Rudolph and his songs  There's Christmas carols to sing all day long  On Christmas Eve we'll get the best tamales out  That's what it's all about   Come on let's sing this holiday song   Hanukkah has come around  I can hardly wait  We'll light the menorah  I'm counting down the days  Playing dreidel with my family  Singing songs like these really brings me peace   Shaker: Daniel Jacobs Piano: Emilio Lopez Vocals: Joyce Go, Daniel Jacobs, Rita Komsky and Emilio Lopez  (6:56) Let it Snow – Dean Martin (cover) by Jamond Pearson, Adam Muraida, Emilio Lopez, and Greco Ancona EPI musicians bring you a cover of a winter classic, Let it Snow! In this tune you'll hear a jolly backing track that features EPI voices and instruments. Oh, the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we've no place to go Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow  It doesn't show signs of stopping And I've brought me some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low Let it snow, let it snow  When we finally say goodnight How I'll hate going out in the storm But if you really hold me tight All the way home I'll be warm  And the fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we're still goodbyeing But as long as you love me so Let it snow, let it snow, and snow  When we finally say goodnight How I'll hate going out in the storm But if you really grab me tight All the way home I'll be warm  And the fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we're still goodbyeing But as long as you love me so Let it snow, let it snow, and snow   Thank you to EPI for this album artwork!  Thanks for listening and tune in next time! Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! You're listening to episode 20 of Quarantunes, where quarantine can't stop our creativity! After finding some samples they liked, the exported it and worked on it more by adding their own instruments and vocals. Students wrote their own lyrics and wanted it to be something you could dance to. A text-to-speech device can be heard towards the beginning of the song, which is being controlled by a student. Lyrics:  Welcome to our world of song Whether you sing or play an instrument, You matter everyday So, join us in our world of song  This song is like a bright, sunshiny day in Hawaii Oh yeah A truly, sunshiny day Yeah  This song is like a bright, sunshiny day in Hawaii Oh yeah A truly, sunshiny day Yeah  2:28 “Rock”  Students wanted to write and record a rock song. Throughout the song, you'll be able to hear some live instruments and samples that students either recorded or chose themselves. The class was listening to some 70s and 80s rock and were inspired by that to create this song.  (4:03) “Stand By Me (Cover)” The class wanted to do a cover and voted to do Stand By Me. In this rendition, students are singing the bass part, verses, and the chorus. The keyboard in the song is being played by a student as well. A text-to-speech device can also be heard throughout the song, which is being controlled by a student to make it sound like it is singing.  Lyrics: When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No, I won't be afraid Oh, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand Stand by me  So darlin', darlin' Stand by me, oh, stand by me Oh, stand, stand by me Stand by me  If the sky that we look upon Should tumble and fall Or the mountain should crumble to the sea I won't cry, I won't cry No, I won't shed a tear Just as long as you stand Stand by me  And darlin', darlin' Stand by me, oh, stand by me Oh, stand now, stand by me Stand by me  Thank you to Brian Corder for this album artwork! Thanks for listening! Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! You're listening to episode 19 of Quarantunes ,where quarantine can't stop our creativity! Today we have a spooky episode from EPI!  (0:18) “Ghostbusters” cover by EPI Musicians (Carlos Arredondo, Greco Ancona, Emilio Lopez, Jamond Pearson, Adam Muraida, Griselda Ramos) EPI Musicians reimagine a Halloween classic! In this tune, you will hear brand new lyrics depicting a brand new monster, a spooky dancing chef (as seen on the album artwork)! EPI musicians worked on recreating the lyrics, recording their own voices, and recording their own instruments to add to the iconic backing track.  If something smells good Under your kitchen hood Who you gonna call?  Ghostbusters!   If you hear a guitar And it sounds real good Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!  I ain't 'fraid of no chef I ain't 'fraid of no chef If you find him cooking  Hiding in your closet Who can you call?  Ghostbusters!   Making spooky empanadas Singing spooky songs Ow, who you gonna call?  Ghostbusters!   I ain't 'fraid of no chef I ain't 'fraid of no chef Big muscles and bigger teeth He loves to dance on Halloween He's a dancing chef with crazy eyes  Who you gonna call?  Ghostbusters!  (2:43) "Track 2 Field Trip: Pumpkin Patch” - EPI Musicians (Rita Komsky, Joyce Go, Daniel Jacobs, Griselda Ramos and Emilio Lopez) “The Pumpkin Patch” is a musical representation by the artists of Track 2 Social Music Therapy of a group field trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  The artists collaboratively brainstormed and wrote this story in a Mad-Lib process, by each contributing salient words that influenced the direction of the plotline.  Once the story was complete, the group worked together to set it to music in Logic Pro by selecting aesthetic preferences for instrumentation and effects.  Additionally, each artist utilized their strengths and abilities to record featured solos that can be heard on the timeline.  We hope you enjoy our explorative experience!  Featured Soloists  Jonathan Draper: Conducting Claps  Rita Komsky  Maraca  Whistle  Joyce Go  Verbalization: “Home”   Vocal riff: “OOOO”  Table top drumming   Daniel Jacobs:   Vocalization   Conducting egg shaker   Emilio Lopez  Vocal riff: “OOO”  Verbalization: “ME”  Griselda Ramos: Vocal Scatting  One brisk October morning The leaves were turning orange The track 2 artists decided “Hey, let's take a field trip!” Oh Rita said, “It's autumn are there's too much fun to miss!” Ooooo, too much fun to miss So Johnny, Joyce and Rita Yo-Yo, Daniel and Grisa Hopped in the car and headed to the pumpkin patch  Daniel shouted, “We are going to have such a blast!” Oooo, have such a blast As the group was driving Pumping that hip hop music They saw the silliest scarecrow that they ever seen It made Grisa excited for Halloween Oooo, excited for Halloween  When they arrived, they couldn't believe their eyes There were pumpkins spread all over Sweet treats, horses and rides Oooo, Johnny thought, “We are having the very best time” Ooo, they very best time  They each picked a pumpkin Some were big and orange Some were small and green But each one was just right Joyce sang, “I can't wait to take this home tonight” Oooo, take this home tonight  Then as the sun fell over The group felt chilly and hungry So they shared some candy And nice big pot of hot chocolate Yo-Yo thought, “I'm so lucky I got all my friends with me” So lucky I got all my friends with me  (6:07) “The Spookiness in the Rain” by Rudy Austin In this Halloween focused piece, EPI artist Rudy Austin created this song with a collection of sounds that resemble a spooky and Halloween-themed essence. Rudy selected specific sounds himself to be included in this piece and then provided a musical improvisation on the organ that he played himself. The organ improvisations and accompaniment were recorded with Garageband, the wolf sounds came from the video “Wolves Howling Sounds” on Youtube and the thunder and lightning sound effect was recorded from the video “EPIC THUNDER & RAIN, Rainstorm sounds for Relaxing”.   (7:45) “Spooky EPI Family” - EPI Musicians (Adam Muraida, Jamond Pearson, Elizabeth Correa, Emilio Zuniga, and Greco Ancona) The students of Track 1 EPI the musical collaboratively wrote the song “Spooky EPI Family” through a process of brainstorming shared favorite ideas, and imaginative plot lines that they wanted to musically convey.  After voting on concepts to create the lyrics, the group worked together to select their musical aesthetic preferences for instrumentation and effects in Logic Pro.  Once the song was written and recorded, the artists selected personalized elements in the form of solo recordings, instrument samples or sound effects to add to our timeline.  Put finished product highlights strengths of each spooky family member, hence the group-selected title: The Spooky EPI Family.  We hope you have a happy haunted listen.    Featured Soloists  Adam Muraida:   “haunted ukulele solo,”    verbalizing words: (horse, football)  Jamond Pearson:   riffing “ooo” in interlude   singing “let's get spooky now”  Elizabeth Correa:  Conducting guiro placement  Conducting sound effects: witch cackle and cat meow  Emilio Zuniga:   Vocalization in interlude  Conducting werewolf howl  Greco Ancona:  Conducting placement of thunder sounds  Spiders spinning on the wall          Ghosts that flutter, winds that call  Zombie Soccer players pass the ball  Looks like spooky season   Leaves crackle on the ground  Black cats slink at the sound  Witches cackle through the night  Stealing chocolate in their flight!   It's magical mischief time  Enchanting every rhyme  Playing Haunted ukuleles  Meet our spooky family   Adam rides his flying horse  Jamond sees Yoda his room  Elizabeth twists her magic hands  Greco paints his pumpkins   Emilio waves to ogre friends Track 1 does their spooky dance  Leaving goblins in a trance  Looks like quite a night!    Thank you to EPI for this album artwork!   Thanks for listening and tune in next time! After finding a piano part and creating a beat with it, they exported it and continued to add onto it. They recorded snaps, claps, a v-tech critters keyboard, and chose from more samples. The class then wrote lyrics about being happy and then recorded themselves singing. Lyrics:  IT FEELS SUNNY IT'S SUNNY OUTSIDE I FEEL GOOD I FEEL HAPPY GLAD IT'S SUNNY OUT IT FEELS GOOD OUT I LIKE IT WHEN IT'S SUNNY OUT  (3:26) “Disco Party” This next song is titled “Disco Party.” Students decided to create a dance-inspired song. The class listened to new and old dance songs they liked to get inspired. In the song, you can hear students singing and as well as one of the students using the brail note apex. They also chose the genre, tempo, samples, and all the instrumentations in the song. Lyrics:  DISCO PARTY  Thank you to ART Center for this amazing episode, and thank you to Alison Salo for this creative album artwork!  Join us in our annual online giving event, opening for donations on September 17th https://donate.longbeachgives.org/fundraise/9100/join-art-center-in-supporting-able-arts-work  Thanks for listening! Today we hear musical expression from the artists at EPI.  (0:16) We Are EPI Theme Song Written by: Elizabeth Correa, Jamond Pearson, Adam Murida, and Emilio Zuniga In the class, “EPI: The Musical class”, the artists composed, edited and performed their original song that will be the opening number for their musical. The song was created to give a brief overview of who EPI and what EPI enjoys together as a community. Each artist who worked on this piece shared an idea, helped choose the lyrics for the song, and performed an instrument of their choice on the track.  The following are the instruments included in the song and who performed them: Elizabeth: piano, drums and bass, Adam: ukulele and shaker, Emilio: drums, Jamond: vocals, Jessica (MT-BC): vocals and guitar Welcome to EPI Welcome to EPI Welcome to EPI We have some fun We've got music, even pianos So come along and play with me We've got art for me and you We've got painting and drawing too We are EPI We are EPI We are EPI So come and sing with us  (1:12) Improvisation Loops- Rudy Austin This improvisation piece was created by EPI artist, Rudy, that uses a combination of prerecorded melodies and improvisational melodies recorded by Rudy himself. Rudy first chose three prerecorded loops that he thought would fit best with his improvisation. He selected 2 prerecorded piano loops and 1 prerecorded conga loop. All loops were created by Garageband. Rudy then put all the recorded loops together and recorded his own improvisation on the piano using Garageband. The focus was to express himself through the piano and how he was feeling as he was listening to the music. With all the melodies combined, Rudy created this original piece.   (3:14) Meditation of LoveThis piece was created by artists in the EPI Movement & Music class. This class participates in guided meditations every week and decided to make their own meditation music that can be used against a meditation script, a sound bath, or for listening during any meditation activity. Artists started with a loop of ocean waves and chose the key of F Major for the rest of the song's layers and instrumentation. The key of F major relates to the heart chakra, thus giving this song its title “Meditation of Love”   (5:24) Get to Know Us - Emilio Lopez, Rita Komsky, Joyce Go, Jonathan Draper, and Griselda Ramos This is an autobiographical song, collaboratively written and recorded by the artists in EPI Track 2, Social Music Therapy.  The verses are created from an amalgam of responses that students gave during a “getting to know each other” sentence completion game.  The chorus consists of lyrics that were voted on as a group.  Once the melody was recorded, the class worked together to select instrumentation Yoyo's Favorite season is the summer Rita really loves the color red Joyce looks up to her sister  Johnny's favorite thing is seeing friends  Get to know us here at EPI  We've got a pretty cool crew right here  Learn and grow all together  Through the days, the weeks, months and years  Joyce's favorite creatures are cats  Daniel always smiles when we sing  Hannah loves her Disney movies Yoyo wants to fly in an airplane    (7:06) Seattle Soundscape- Emilio Lopez, Rita Komsky, Joyce Go, Jonathan Draper, and Griselda Ramos This is an interpretive soundscape that the EPI Track 2 Social Music Therapy class created based on their virtual group trip to Seattle Washington.  The group voted on Seattle as a destination that they wanted to visit, and then four sites were selected: Pike's Place Market, The Space Needle, The Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit, and the Woodland Park Zoo.  The group took a virtual tour of each place, and then spent time in Logic Pro selecting aesthetic elements to layer that were representative of what they heard and saw.  If you listen carefully, this recording includes several sounds including: various instrumental loops, rain sounds for the city, footsteps in puddles, elevators and camera noises at the space needle, glass being blown in a studio, birds chirping, and bears growling at the zoo.  We hope that listening to this gives you a taste of our EPI trip!    Thank you to EPI for this album artwork and awesome episode  Thanks for listening and tune in next time! The students utilized pre-recorded loops in Garageband to put the song together and chose videos of animals to go along to the styles that change throughout the song. Students made all choices from time signature to tempo to each individual loop track, as well as, chose when the music should shift to a new sound. about halfway through, you will notice the sound of a trumpet imitating an elephant.  2:15 “Proud Mary” CECA's Music and Mindfulness Class  CECA covers the well-known song "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The students of this class chose which instruments, rhythms, styles, and effects they wanted throughout the creative process. Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! You’re listening to episode 13 of Quarantunes, where quarantine can’t stop our creativity! In this episode, we hear musical expression from ART Center. The songs from this Quarantunes episode were all started in 2019-2020, but were finished in 2021. The reason they are being released just now is because the files were recently recovered. The virtual music creation class then put some finishing touches to the songs. (0:27) "Hello Song" In this song, many artists from ART Center recorded their voices by saying “hello” in their own way. The class also made choices on the style of music, which loops to use, as well recording original parts. (1:56) "Fuuuunk" The class thought it would be fun to make something everyone could dance to. They chose a catchy piano riff and a funky bass to get the song going. Throughout the song, many artists are playing the drums and synths through a midi keyabord. (3:23) "June" The class wanted to create something relaxing. With this song, many artists were playing with a midi keyboard to get the sounds that they were wanting, such as: trumpet, clarinet, synthesizers, flute, french horn, keyboard, strings, piano, and bass. Live drums and vocals can also be heard in the song. (6:29) "Good Memories" The class was introduced to sampling right before they began this project. The class chose an artist and song that really liked and the result was Elvis Presley’s Memories. In the song, the class chose parts that they liked from the original track and put their own spin on it by adding drums and vocals. While making the song, the class focused on good memories. Each instrument and melody that was chosen was selected by the EPI artists and the song was directed in the musical direction they wanted it to go. When choosing the title for this song, the artists stated that the song made them feel happy and they wanted to include the EPI community into their vision. Jesse Kramer's story is as authentic as it is unpredictable. It's a story of struggle, adversity and rebirth. A story still in its preface as the young 24 year old singer and songwriter from Indianapolis, who now resides in Nashville, seeks to kick-start the official rebirth of rock n' roll for the modern world.“Rock n' roll is NOT dead! It thrives on lives with struggle, passion and soul,” Jesse emphatically claims. “It takes guts, focus, and drive. I hope to become the modern world's reminder that rock n' roll still exists, and is an avenue which people can channel emotions and thoughts through music, just as I do.”From a very early age in life, Jesse Kramer always knew that music and singing were his only genuine means of communicating his personal thoughts and feelings on life. His old soul from within began guiding his thoughts and decisions in high school at the age of 14. That's when he first began writing and recording his own music after growing up listening to a wide range of artists like Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marilyn Manson, Chris Cornell and even Eminem. Jesse quickly developed his own distinctive and gritty sound by balancing elements of rock n' roll, soul, and R&B music. Something he now simply refers to as “The Jesse Kramer Sound.”At the age of 17, after growing up in a strict religious household where everything about the way he should live his life was prescribed, Jesse was given an ultimatum by his parents: Choose whether to continue playing music and be kicked out of the house, or put the guitar and mic down for good, and pursue a life as dictated by religion. He chose to carry on with music, and faced a period of homelessness by couch-surfing and sleeping in his car, even while still in high school, but in the name of pursuing his dreams of bringing rock n' roll back.“As I grew older I became more awoke, as music broadened my ability to see real truth and understanding,” Jesse explained. “More than just what religion was teaching me growing up. Music is universal and is able to be seen, created, and felt. Just as some say how God is like the wind.”In 2014 after he turned 18, Jesse decided to move from Indianapolis to Nashville to get serious about pursuing his ambitions as a songwriter. Thus, once again redirecting his life's trajectory much to his family's apprehension, he picked up and moved on.“Nashville has been what I consider my College, as I had chosen to leave my full-ride to traditional College in Indianapolis, due to life circumstances,” Jesse articulated. “Nashville has definitely taught me a lot about the life of a musician. It's definitely a cool town to get your feet wet in, but I don't believe this is somewhere I will be forever. It has definitely given me the education I needed, so I can apply it to the way I like to do things.”In 2018 his determination and hard work began to pay off when he was discovered and personally invited by the Executive Producers of FOX-TV Networks to perform on season 2 of their music competition series The Four: Battle for Stardom. During his auditions, Jesse gave rousing and soulful performances of Jeff Buckley's “Hallelujah,” Jimi Hendrix's “All Along The WatchTower,” Joe Cocker's “You Are So Beautiful,” and others, impressing both the studio audience and the show's executive judge panel consisting of Sean Combs, DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor and Fergie. In 2019 Jesse released his first five song EP called Breakthrough of original music he wrote, recorded and self-produced. Later that year - just before the worldwide COVID-pandemic would shut down much of the TV & Music industry - Jesse was invited to audition and perform on season 15 of NBC's popular TV show America's Got Talent, which began airing in 2020. Covering Lady Gaga's pop hit song “Bad Romance” Jesse's vibration and intensity once again brought the studio audience to their feet, this time receiving a standing ovation. Even legendary music industry executive Simon Cowell blessed Jesse not only with his respect, but with his undivided attention, noting he “Really, really, really enjoyed your performance. You have my respect for coming onto this show.”In 2020 Jesse released his second EP of original music; Quarantunes (part 1/2) written in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again the songs illustrate his musical depth, as he dives into his more than 200+ catalog of original songs. Now at 24, the ambitious and up-and-coming Rockstar in the making is staying busy with touring, recording new music, and building upon his blossoming songwriting career, while his fan base continues growing rapidly. This Fall Jesse will release new music, and music lovers will once again hear how Jesse transcends a sound that is not only reminiscent of years past, but new, fresh, and authentic for the modern world. A sound that is fastly becoming regarded as a genuinely one-of-a-kind, giving him the ability to bring a wide range of music lovers together.“I think the best way to really understand the world is through music. I would like people to feel and vibe with me, and to let them know there is still authentic, raw and genuine music out there. Simply put, I want my music to really touch people... and I am ready to do whatever it takes and go anywhere I must to make that happen.”

It's CAREER WEEK on THE SWIRL! And we've got a music-filled, jam-packed piece of entertainment for your podcast-listening joys. We start with some follow-up plans and strategies from our very popular AAPI Checki-In Emergency podcast with Erin Quill & Pearl Sun – just because it isn't in the news, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Then it's time for a quick “Vaccination Update” and a new stab at a new jingle. (Get vaccinated, everybody!) This week's THIS WEEK IN GAGGERY is next, with a shout-out to our sister Chantal Nchako's gag-worthy shoe line CHOOBIZ (www.chantalnhako.com), before launching into our discussion of our careers, the navigation of their twists and turns, and how Swirly racial dynamics played a role even in the best of recent times. Then, in a far-reaching, freewheeling interview, the great singer-songwriter Morgan James talks us through her journey to the center of Broadway, Motown The Musical, Sony Music, Singer/Songwriter Recording Artist for LA Reid, and Producer and Star of the all-female “Jesus Christ Superstar,” punctuated by some choice music excerpts you will not wanna miss. Pick up Morgan's latest album “Memphis Magnetic,” “Quarantunes,” on her YouTube channel, or on every platform from her website, www.morganjamesonline.com. You are so very welcome. When this awful pandemic first hit the U.S. and we started hearing about “stay at home” orders and “social distancing” I commented on twitter how I hoped this down time would inspire artists to spend their forced down time writing and recording. Little did I know what an explosion we’d see in new music. Tonight’s show is a sampling of the various projects that have come out in the past few weeks, and outside of a couple of tracks all of these were recorded at home. There’s a great variety in the music presented on this episode. There’s a few acoustic tunes, some great covers (including Daniel Romano’s cover of the entire “Infidels” album), and lots of noisy little garage rockers. After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs.

89.1 presents the first episode of WBOI Artcentric, featuring WBOI's Julia Meek interviewing Lynn Nicholson, co-founder of the local band Debutants. The group was one of the first bands to launch a livestream series due to the current venue closures. Known for their multi-instrumental range of genres and playing styles, especially of the Indiana Newgrass variety, the group holds the importance of music making in high regard and they have regularly been sharing their work over social media since this project was launched just about a year ago. For a look at the format's practicality as well as its appeal, WBOI's Julia Meek talked with band co-founder, Lynn Nicholson, to learn just what their Friday Night Quarantunes are all about. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo” by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistants are Keegan Lee and Brittany Smith. This week, we take our first foray into remote recording. We stretch our legs luxuriously into the malaise of isolation and uncertainty with a notable dearth of stories due to the cow-like dullness of our day-to-day lives. But we still find time to laugh, have a cocktail, and share some killer music. Thanks for joining us. We're thinking of you, and we hope you're all getting by as well as possible!Quick programming note: Drew is a fine host, but the slowest editor in the world, so please excuse our delay here. But we're back on track from here on out with playlists and interviews. Stick around and tell a home-bound friend!Music this week includes:"Extremely Run to the Hills" by Beaten to Death (9:41)"Mantra" by Flamingosis & The Kount (15:31)"Fire in the Sky" by Glass Apple Bonzai (23:14)"Dreams" by Spectres (32:05)"Suck Sh*t" by Machine Girl (40:30)"Grind Korn" by Beaten to Death (45:36)
