Knocked Loose frontman Bryan Garris joins me on the show amid technical difficulties. BUT WE GOT IT IN ANYWAY. Knocked Loose just wrapped up a massive tour in support of their new album “You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To.” The album hit number one on Billboard rock charts and even charted higher than Taylor Swift on Spotify for a couple weeks. You might have even seen the vinyl sitting on a shelf at Target next to some scented candles. Knocked Loose Drum Rundown: https://youtu.be/3WOPb983PssFull Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/knocked-loose-2024If hell had a guitar tone, it'd be what Knocked Loose's Isaac Hale and Nicko Calderon conjure up from their Ibanez 7-string beasts. The band's mission since day one has been to pummel listeners with the most-extreme form of hardcore music. The past decade they've throttled through all limits making each break down, each riff, each scream, and each performance outdone by the next. A more recent (and seemingly) conflicting goal has been to infect the mainstream with their brutality. Their brand-new third album, You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To paired them with pop producer Drew Fulk (Kevin Gates, NLE Choppa, Disturbed, Lil Wayne), the last two years they've played Coachella and Bonnaroo, in 2022 they partnered with hip-hop duo $uicideboy$ for a sold-out tour, and they were just announced as direct support for Slipknot's 25th anniversary tour. Both goals are being accomplished as their sound has never been more punishing or popular. Before Knocked Loose's sold-out show at Nashville's Marathon Music Works, guitarists Isaac Hale and Nick Calderon invited PG's Perry Bean onstage for a fresh conversation about their updated mercenary squad. During our time with the Hale and Calderon, we learn about their custom 7-string Ibanez doom brooms, Hale explains moving on from tube amps and pedalboards to Quad Cortex units and MIDI switching, and Calderon details finding his place in the band and adjusting to an extra low-B string. Es gibt diese Album-Releases, an denen man einfach nicht vorbeikommen kann. Nach Sleep Token, Lorna Shore und Bad Omens hat sich nun die nächste Band in den Hype-Train gesetzt: Knocked Loose. “You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To” ist ein Album, das furchteinflößend ist.

Should white people be taking the lead and practicing antiracism or stepping aside and following people of color? Do people of color want to speak for themselves, or does that burden them with representing their entire race?In this episode, we examine the role that white people have to play in the antiracism movement. We talk through the ethics of different contexts: white people who have careers in antiracism, whether white people should lead antiracism-focused organizations, and what role white people have in conversations about race. What'd up Crew? What's good?   Today's Episode cover Guide Post 8 & 9 of our current book:  The Gifts Of Imperfection  By: Brené Brown         Who Gon' Check Me Boo?! God is!  Something is about to happen What is God getting you into the habit of doing?       1. “You are only committed to what you confess.” Your attitude is determined by your understanding.  A lot of us have the wrong attitude because we don't understand that what belongs to us is a joint heir to Jesus Christ.  When you understand who you are and who you belong to you begin to carry yourself differently.  My attitude will always be something is about to happen, no matter in I am in the valley or the mountain; there is a higher mountain I can climb.  2. Never settle for a life you don't want because you are a afraid to go after the life you deserve. Isaiah 43:19 “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a path way through the wilderness and I will create rivers in the dry waste land.” You cannot experience the path of the wilderness unless you are in the wilderness. You can experience that is in the dry waste land unless you are in the dry waste land. Stop avoiding difficult situations because you are afraid of them and put your faith on it and believe God will meet you there and there is nothing He can't. We so busy avoiding tough stuff and that is the very place that God desires to perform the miracles you need, but you can't see it if you are not there. Stop letting fear rule your life; let faith guide you through those waste land and dry place.           CREW LOVE:                                                                        Please leave a WRITTEN review & give 5 STARS           GuidePost #8 Cultivating Calm and Stillness: Letting Go of Anxiety as a Lifestyle Calmness • Pg. 135 “The people interviewed weren't anxiety-free or even anxiety-averse; they were anxiety-aware.  • Pg. 135 “Calm and stillness may sound like the same things, but I learned that they are different and that we need both.  • Pg. 136 “Try to be slow to respond and quick to think…” Stillness • pg. 137-138 “…From meditation a prayer to regular periods of quiet reflection and alone time…” • pg. 138 “Once we can let go of our assumptions about what stillness is supposed to look like and find a way to create a clearing that work for us.”     GuidePost #9 Cultivating Meaningful Work: Letting Go of Self-doubt and “Supposed To.” Pg. 144• “Sharing our gifts is how we honor spirit and connect with God, self-doubt is letting our fear undermine our faith.”      Challenge of the week:                                                            Is from the Get Going Section pg. 147.                                    • Think BIG for what you love.    What Would Crew Do?!  (ask advice):                                     I feel like giving up all the time because I feel like I am not living the life God has for me.  How did you know you that you were living your purpose?        Quote of the week: 1. pg. 146 “Overcoming self-doubt is all about believing we're enough and letting go of what the world says we're supposed to be and supposed to call ourselves.”   - Brene Brown 2. “Don't ask what the world needs. Stephen is a living legend. He is the author of one of my favorite books "Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul". He also recently co-authored a book with Kimberly Ann Johnson titled "Reckoning". Stephen started his career as a palliative care social worker in "the death trade", which, in short, is the over-medicalized, over-pathologized process of dying in the West. In this episode, we dive deep into birth and death, particularly when the two occur in the same breath. Death of children is confronting, and in our society, "kids aren't supposed to die". But what if they do die? Who has the language and courage to hold space for their grieving parents? This task has been vested to medical professionals, but we are just as incompetent in talking about death as anybody else. Instead, we resort to platitude and dangle carrots of hope that perhaps a dying child is merely an illusion. This conversation is powerful...and it was an honor to have Stephen on the show. Made possible by: Fit for Birth - 20% off pregnancy- and postpartum-specific exercise and nutrition coaching (or courses to become a better coach yourself!) [00:14:00] euphemisms and death You don't “pass away”. You “die”. Health care professionals at expected to be good at talking about mortality without having any training in the language Nobody is READY to talk about their own death; in some ways, you must force them to confront it [00:25:00] The story of a birth and death coincident It's our job to give a patient persmision to talk about death and dying The “Book of Supposed To” guides our confrontation with death “Kids aren't supposed to die” appears in this book Not “living a long” or “full” life is inconceivable What happens to us as we grow up that we lose track of our mortality? Lose the notion of a truly full life? [00:38:00] just because we can extend life, does this mean that we should? citizenShip malpractice COVID-19 was a God It provided an opportunity, and we missed out Because we all didn't die, does that mean that we won? COVID required us to aim our middle sunward, but we instead aimed our missions outward [00:54:00] humane versus human humans haven't been a “part of nature” for a long time Stephen is often accused of being “anti-medicine” The cost of everything we do to avoid mortality is incalculable Gregory Hoskins Band (stay tuned to the very end of the episode to hear one of Stephen's songs...) Connect Inward.” Four Square Method [5:46] “Inhale and hold your breath for 4 seconds. Exhale for 4 seconds. Hold that exhale at the bottom for 4 seconds.” Natural Breaths [9:50] “Acknowledge parts of you. Release the negativity.” It's All Working Out the Way It's Supposed To [14:54] “Be grateful for the heartaches, because they are aligning you to your greater purpose.” Aligning with yourself is the greatest part of self-care you will experience. Give yourself Love first because you deserve it. Remember who you are. Love yourself intensely. How do you feel now? If anyone tries to dim how you feel right now, remember the boundary. Since the 1960s, workplaces have initiated anti-racism and anti-oppression workshops and trainings, but we're  curious...are they working? Some organizations undertake DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) as one-off events, some are checklist items during workplace orientation, and others do it to avoid legal action. But after 50 years of evolved DEI from race, to gender, physical and mental ability, and sexual orientation, the research is showing that workplaces are not more diverse. We dive into the reasons why, but also the ways in which sustainable change is possible. In the second installment of this month's ‘Nope, That Is Not What It Means' series, where each week Michelle, Maria and Keith clarify the meaning and implementation of frequently used organizational terms, they turn their attention to ‘performance management'. Often misrepresented in business, this term requires a great deal of attention if organizations are going to grow and develop an employee population, and that is precisely why the REL Talent team shines a spotlight on it today.   The team begins by looking at the ways leaders are currently using the term ‘performance management', what it actually means, the annual performance process, and the need to consistently track both positive and negative aspects of performance. They also explore the reasons why so many leaders find this area difficult, some ideas and resources to help them, and the contrast between the concepts of growing and fixing when it comes to coaching. Today's instructive episode offers even further evidence of the vast amount of expertise to be found within the REL Talent team, and the value of having them as partners in growing and developing your organization. The Finer Details of This Episode:   How leaders are using the term ‘performance management' in the workforce What it actually means The annual performance process Tracking performance The reasons why so many leaders have difficulty in this area Ideas to help leaders with performance management Ferdinand Fournies' Why Employees Don't Do What They're Supposed To and What You Can Do About It Growing vs. fixing Quotes:    “It's almost a given that the term ‘performance management' somehow is the same thing as ‘disciplinary action'…'managing people out'.   “I think organizations really get this wrong.”   “Your job is to help people do shit right.”   “It's not even done well in a lot of HR departments.”   “It's laughable to imagine that any leader, even if they only have a small team, is able to accurately assess the performance of an employee over the course of a year when they're only thinking about it once a year.”   “Management and leadership don't have a ton of complementary skill sets – they are different.”   “Most leaders adapt one skillset.”   “Coaching is always about growth.”   “Depending on where they fall in the leadership cycle, you've got to look at what their need is.”   “Ask for resources if you're struggling, because we can get you some.”   “The goal is to get the touchdown with the team.”   “I'm growing them to the next level, I'm not fixing what's broken.” Show Links:   REL Talent: HR Consulting   Why Employees Don't Do What They're Supposed To and What You Can Do About It

This little modal verb phrase has been popping up a lot in my classes and teaching so I want to teach it to you. This is a common confusion with the verb Suppose (which is different) and it is VERY common mistake. Students say "It's supposed that" instead of "to be supposed to" in the correct form. I go through and give you 3 clear examples of how we use this structure in the real life to talk about expectation and requirement in the present and past tense.I really encourage you to think about your own sentences with "To be supposed to" after listening to this episode and to start using them when you speak English.I hope you find this useful. She went to college, got a Bachelor's degree, got the job in IT recruiting, and started working her way up the corporate ladder. Until this GUT feeling got TOO strong and told her enough was enough. It wasn't that she wasn't HAPPY or grateful for her life and career path, she definitely was- it was more so that she started to think that she was supposed to be doing something DIFFERENT and really had this itch to make her career about helping serve WOMEN in a massive way but she didn't know HOW. So she took a few more jobs in the corporate world, moving into IT Project Management, moving from Seattle to NYC and even getting an opportunity to work at her DREAM company, “Google”. She realized (really unexpectedly) that she had a passion helping women on their health and fitness goals because she knew that helped them build CONFIDENCE and get more excited about THEIR lives. She built that business on the side of her corporate job, until it surpassed her corporate income and she officially became her own boss in April of 2015. Since then she's spoken on large stages partnering with the Network Marketing company Beachbody, and helped hundreds of women build online coaching business'. But that passion EXCEEDS just the Network Marketing realm so she launched what is already a top rated Business Podcast, called “EmpowerHER podcast” helping women get out of their own way with TANGIBLE steps to take ACTION toward pursuing their dreams. Stop judging yourself by others self deprecating jokes. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
