Hey friend!   If you are looking for the perfect low cost recipe for the holiday season that you can also enjoy any time of year, look no further!   This week's recipe not only uses staples most households typically have on hand, but it even can utilize an ingredient that you may normally throw away. Now that's frugal!   Blessings to your family, Mandy Thank you for helping this show rank in the top 2% globally! I appreciate you so much!   P.S. As promised, here is the full recipe with instructions:   Bread Pudding Ingredients: 6 slices day-old bread, torn into small pieces (FREE if you use up what you would toss, otherwise buy day-old or marked down bread for cheap.) 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted ($4.49 for 16oz today at my Fred Meyer, but you're only using a tiny amount) 2 cups milk (2% or whole is recommended) $2.59 ½ gallon or $3.69 gallon ¾ cup white sugar ($2.99 for 4lbs) 4 large eggs, beaten ($4.99 lowest price at my store) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon ($1.25 at my store) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract $1.99 for imitation or $5.99 for pure (can also sub another flavor if you have it on hand or to change it up: Ex. pure orange extract is $2.29 at Fred Meyer or almond is $3.69, lemon is 3.49 (may need to play around with quantities of other flavors) Steps: 1. Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2. Place bread pieces into an 8-inch square baking pan. Drizzle melted butter over bread. Sprinkle your choice of mix-ins over top - optional. 3. Whisk milk, sugar, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla together in a medium mixing bowl until well combined. 4. Pour mixture over bread, and lightly push down with a fork until all bread is covered and soaking up the liquid. 5. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and the top springs back when lightly pressed, about 45 minutes. Enjoy! Or add any optional toppings after if you'd like, but it's not needed.

Today's broadcast is C2E19 for Theme Thursday, Sept 26th, 2024. Today's theme is…..well, there are two themes, and they're both a secret. Each host has their own mystery theme - can you guess what the themes are? Today's episode is called “Mystery Flavors”.   [Production Note: more details below, but we apologize if the conversation on the opening track sounds a little more halting or broken up than usual, as if it were broken up into small chunks spaced apart. Also, this episode has an unusually long post-episode bonus reel. So, the only solution available to achieve BOTH starting at the right time, AND syncing to the right moment was to break the opening conversation into several small chunks and then create a little space between all of the chunks. So, that's why the opening conversation sounds the way it does. I actually had to break up the conversations on one or two other tracks too - but to so much less extreme of a degree that it's not noticeable other than on the opening conversation.   Hugues' blog can be found here:    https://huguesjohnson.com/   You can find Nerd Noise Radio on Facebook and on Twitter each @NerdNoiseRadio. Apologies if anyone feels like I'm making too big of a deal about all of this, but you have to understand that this diagnosis changes EVERYTHING for me! It feels like a 43yr chapter of my life has ended and a new chapter of greater clarity, optimism, self-love, and opportunity has begun. It simply means that much to me, gang! I promise that I won't keep talking a ton about it for the rest of time - or if I do, I will do so on a separate program dedicated specifically to the subject, but I do beg you to bear with me for now, while this is all still so new for me. :-) Also, another “flip-side of the coin” situation between this and C1E79, which didn't get discussed in the episode: In a certain manner of speaking, each episode are “the first episode ever to be produced in Fedora”. The mic time on both episodes were done on “the Big Rig”, which is running Arch-Based “Garuda KDE Dr460nized”, but the rest of the production was done on laptops. In the case of C1E79, the main laptop (which had been running Arch-based Endeavor OS [KDE] at the time) was out of commission awaiting a motherboard replacement, so all the production had to be done on one of my backup laptops, where I had just so happened to be “auditioning” Fedora 38 (Gnome) at the time. I ended up liking it so much that once the main laptop was repaired, I ended up replacing Endeavor with Fedora 38 (Gnome) - which was where all the production of this episode (minus the mic-time) happened. So, in a certain manner of speaking, both episodes were a “first time on Fedora” situation. Also, just as Arch-based Linux supplanted Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros, I feel like Fedora and Fedora-based is what is next to supplant Arch. Also, I think it's official: I'm a Gnome convert. My “KDE-first” days indeed appear to be over for the time-being at least. I've even since replaced Garuda KDE Dr460nized with Garuda Gnome, but not until after all the mic recordings had been completed.] Links to Autism tests - again, DO NOT take these test results as a SUBSTITUTE for a formal diagnosis by a trained professional. On the other hand, these tests are VERY reliable, so if they do indicate you have autism, you very likely do. Therefore, the advice of St. John is to take the test results and find a professional with whom you can show and discuss them: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17a6jSemcC5LO_HDqjB8iGHQcsJCMmr-1/view?usp=drive_link   Links to Autism / ADHD / AuDHD YouTube videos mentioned in the episode (as well as a few others added later - such as Illymation, Savannah Brown, Not Your Average Zebra, Proudly Autistic, and Kaelynnism). IMPORTANT NOTE: Masters of VGM Season 2 starts June 1st, and is slated to kick off with Nerd Noise Radio C1E76: "The Big Sound of the Little Guy - vol. 2". To prime the pump of excitement for MoVGM in general, as well as to offer a "compare and contrast" between the incoming, much more polished and measured and matured (and much more well-produced) sequel, and this much more enthusiastic, revolutionary, optimistic, and "heart-ful" example of early, clunky-but-exuberant NNR magic, we are re-running the original ahead of time. I am eager to receive feedback on what everyone things of vol 1 vs vol 2. I think vol 2 is "better",  but vol 1 is "more important". I also think vol 1 is more "joyful", even if more "awkward". But tell me what YOU think!! They also each contain exactly one track composed by......ME - in fact, in this original episode, it's even the opening track! Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Therefore it is STRONGLY recommended that you subscribe to this Nerd Noise Radio feed and bypass all others. This one will contain all their content anyway.    Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1  ("Noise from the Hearts of Nerds") episodes, and not in any of the other content that is or will be offered by Nerd Noise Radio, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. However, if you really are only interested in Channel 1 content, here's the RSS:     http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss    Our episodes will also appear on our Nerd Noise Radio YouTube Channel - just search for Nerd Noise Radio, you'll find us! Here's today's episode:    https://youtu.be/73kM8YsRUdU    Additionally, there are YouTube Playlists you can follow, both an "All Channels" Feed (recommended), as well as channel-specific feeds. You can find them here:    Nerd Noise Radio Network - All Channels Podcast Feed    Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 podcast    Nerd Noise Radio is now available on Twitch as well! Today's Broadcast is C1E68 for Theme Thursday, October 27th, 2022. Today's theme is a collection of spooky, dissonant, jarring music for the occasion of Halloween, on a program we're calling "They're Coming to Get You, Barbara" - a "Lost Level", originally intended for C1E37: Halloween 2018, then bumped to C1E48: Halloween 2019, before being bumped indefinitely, and lost to the sands of time....UNTIL NOW! Featuring a music block produced all the way back in July of 2018, making today's broadcast "THE KING OF LOST LEVELS"! And even though the "production quality" of a music block this old is far inferior to our current fresh productions, the "design philosophy" behind this block remains to this day the most sophisticated thing I've ever done. I'll let the intro tell the story!    Track# - Track - Game - System - Composer - Timestamp    01) Intro - 00:00:00  02) Freak you Out - Vay - Sega CD - Shigeki Sako - 00:04:59  03) Kadaver's Base - Skeleton Krew - Genesis - Nathan McCree - 00:06:56  04) Title - Mystix: World of Horror - Atari 8-bit - Falk Büttner - 00:09:36  05) Elm Street - Nightmare on Elm Street - NES - David Wise - 00:11:09  06) Inside Deep Darkness - Lagrange Point - Famicom (VRC7) - Akio Dobashi, Noriyuki Takahashi, Katsuhiro Suzuki, and/or Atsushi Fujio - 00:13:55  07) Twilight - LoZ: Twilight Princess - GameCube / Wii - Toru Minegishi and/or Asuka Ohta - 00:16:11  08) Section F Suspense - Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus - multi - Mick Gordon - 00:19:32  09) Dark Sanctuary Fortress - Metroid Prime 2 - Game Cube - Kenji Yamamoto - 00:21:41  10) Earth Elemental - Chakan: The Forever Man - Genesis - Mark Miller and/or Jason Scher - 00:23:49  11) Options - Bram Stoker's Dracula - Genesis - Matt Furniss - 00:27:01  12) Gravity Unusual - Strider - Genesis - Junko Tamiya - 00:28:07  13) Triangle - Thumper - PS4 / SWITCH - Brian Gibson - 00:28:54  14) Metroid Prime Battle - Metroid Prime - GameCube - Kenji Yamamoto and/or Kouichi Kyuma - 00:32:40  15) Gore Nest - DOOM (2016) - multi - Mick Gordon - 00:36:25  16) Boss 3 - Legendary Axe - TG16 - Atsumi Chikuma and/or Toshiaki Takimoto - 00:40:14  17) Ghost Valley - Super Mario Kart  - SNES - Soyo Oka - 00:41:38  18) Mojo's Future Crush - X-Men - Genesis - Fletcher Beasley - 00:42:53  19) Bloodpuppets Battle - Splatterhouse 2 - Genesis - Eiko Kaneda - 00:45:53  20) Battle - LaPlace no Ma - PC Engine - Unknown - 00:47:46  21) Endless Pursuer - Snatcher - Sega CD -Konami Kukeiha Club - 00:49:20  22) Crisis - Final Fantasy X - PS2 - Masahashi Hamauzu, Junya Nakano and/or Nobuo Uematsu - 00:51:12  23) Shadow Beast - LoZ: Twilight Princess - GameCube / Wii - Toru Minegishi and/or Asuka Ohta - 00:54:58  24) Beelzebub - Ghouls and Ghosts - Genesis - Tamayo Kawamoto - 00:56:06  25) Naja - Cosmic Carnage - 32X - Hikoshi Hashimoto - 00:57:29  26) Inside a Leviathan Seed - Metroid Prime 3 - Kenji Yamamoto, Minako Hamano, and/or Masaru Tajiima - 00:59:33  27) Agahnim - LoZ: LttP - SNES - Koji Kondo - 01:03:15  28) Spook Mansion - Tiny Toon Adventures - SNES - Kazuhiko Uehara, and/or Yukie Morimoto - 01:04:17  29) Undead - Conker's Bad Fur Day - N64 - Robin Beanland - 01:05:51  30) Maze Music 3 - Kether - CD-I - Santiago J. Original version composed by Tōru Minegishi, Asuka Hayazaki, and/or Kōji Kondō. The howling wind effect was complement of YouTuber "AndreeaRR  ". Our outro music is Funky Radio, from Jet Grind Radio, on the Sega Dreamcast, composed by B.B. Rights.    Intro / Outro / Final Production produced using Ardour 6 / Audacity 3 in Ubuntu Studio [Linux] 22.04 09/05/2022. Music Block produced in GarageBand in macOS 07/23/2018.       IMPORTANT NOTE: The tools and techniques I used back in 2018 in producing the music block were NOT up to my current standards – including featuring less sophisticated fades, more imprecise volume level balancing, less developed track run-order sorting, and even my having used MP3s rather than WAVs in the source production, resulting in a lower-fidelity final product, and further limiting my ability to touch it up after the fact. As such, the production value of this episode will NOT be to par with our current "fresh episodes". But production values aside, the quality of the CONTENT itself, otherwise, I feel, is excellent, and well worth digging up to share with you.....I hope that you'll agree! :-)     You can also find all of our audio episodes on Archive.org as well as the occasional additional release only available there, such as remixes of previous releases and other content.    Our YouTube Channel, for the time being is in dormancy, but will be returning with content, hopefully, in 2022. Now this is an episode I've been looking forward to recording for a long time. When you look at the global coaching community, there are very many coaches but not many that you would recognise walking down the street. Today's guest is one of the most famous faces in world coaching. After starting her career in broadcast radio, Maika Leibbrandt spent over 14 years at the Gallup Organisation where she developed and launched Gallup's Global Strengths Coach program, educating thousands of coaches and leaders on the life-changing potential of a talent-first approach to coaching – one of those coaches was me. Together with her colleague Jim Collison, she spent many years co-hosting Gallup's popular Theme Thursday podcast, a tool for understanding and interpreting Gallup's CliftonStrengths talent assessment. Every single one of my coachees over many years has undertaken CliftonStrengths and I always direct them to Jim and Maika's incredible podcast content to discover more about their top talents and strengths. After working in different contexts and different countries, Maika describes herself as coming home to coaching. She says it's the work she was born to do. Just last month she took the leap to set up her own business and is now helping leaders in her own right to experience their unique power and promise.Maika has been one of my top targets to convince and cajole to come on the podcast ever since I started The Unlock Moment, and I can assure you with absolute certainty that this is an episode you will not want to miss.--Maika Leibbrandt: https://www.hellomaika.com/Maika on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/strengthstalk/CliftonStrengths Theme Thursday podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/gallup-theme-thursday/id960806223Gallup CliftonStrengths: https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths

We keep the Meet recording in case there is an emergency with the Audacity recording, but otherwise don't use it in the final episode, and I just align and combine our high quality Audacity recordings. On this episode, however, (a first for Ch 2) we lost a portion of Hugues' Audacity recording, so we did have to use our fallback a little bit. At the very bottom of the show notes, I'll include a LONG[ISH] VERSION which explains more. I did everything I could to minimize the impact of the Google Meet recording in the final episode. But it is noticeable at points.   You can find Brian and Kristen Peterson's GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/1ef0f855. Then join us again in August on Ch 2 for C2E9: “Just Deserts”. And wherever you are….Fly the N!   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   NOTE ON BACKUP [bad] AUDIO - LONG VERSION: When Hugues and I record, we record over Google Meet. But we also each have separate recordings going simultaneously in Audacity to capture just our side of the conversation in higher quality. He uses the same mic for both recordings, a Blue Snowball USB Condenser mic, plus, he is the one hosting the Google Meet session, so the sound quality difference between his Meet recording and Audacity recording is very negligible (though Audacity is still a little bit better). My side of the conversation, though, is where the difference becomes significant. To record my high quality audio in Audacity, I use a RØDE Podmic XLR dynamic mic through a Cloudlifter into a Focusrite 4i4, and then into the computer. Given the flexibility of Linux audio routing (Hugues and I both use Linux, actually), I -CAN- pull double duty with the Podmic as well, and use it for both the Audacity and Google Meet recordings like Hugues does. But I've found that doing so tends to degrade the audio quality of the Audacity recording. And so, I prefer to keep the Podmic and Focusrite discrete for Audacity to keep it as pristine as possible, and then use one my lower-quality mics for the Google Meet. In the case of today's episode, I just used the sludgy, boomy, poorly defined mic that's built right into my very run of the mill webcam. I mean, because hey, it's not gonna matter, right? Nobody's gonna hear the Google Meet audio anyway...right? Well, that presumes that everything goes fine on both of our individual Audacity recordings. And for this episode (a first in the history of Ch 2), we had a couple segments, one really short and insignificant, and one much more significant, where Hugues' side of the Audacity cut out. It just briefly quit recording. So, we had to fallback to the Google Meets recording for those segments. I was able to minimize the impact of those segments by replacing as much of the Google Meets audio for my side of the recording as possible with my Audacity audio, but what I couldn't do was remove the moments where I would "Mhm" etc while Hugues was talking, since to do so would also remove what he was saying. So, I had to leave those in - and that can be pretty jarring. Also, during the portions of these periods where I'm talking, I had to remove all the "Mhms" etc from Hugues because I couldn't include them without including my bad audio in the mix too. Though you don't end up hearing a whole lot of me on the bad audio, the sudden transitions from the boomy, murky "mhms" to the clean, defined high quality audio is pretty jarring - plus, Hugues sounds completely disengaged when I'm talking in those moments when he really wasn't. But it was the best we could do with what we had. So, we made do, and I think it ultimately turned out pretty alright. But I did at least want to acknowledge the issue and confirm I was very much aware of it. By the time I got to the bloopers, I was a little burned out from the granularity of splicing good audio over bad audio and cutting the bad audio back out, and so, I figured that for the bloopers it wouldn't matter, and just left some of the Meet clips alone. I suppose this has the accidental benefit of letting you hear what the Meet recording sounded like. :-)
