Watch the YouTube version of this episode HERE Are you looking to take the leap in starting a new business venture? In this episode of the Maximum Lawyer Podcast, co-host Tyson chats with Chelsie Lamie, an experienced attorney with over 15 years in plaintiff personal injury law. Chelsie discusses her transition from insurance defense to creating a comprehensive training program for paralegals, ‘Law School for Paralegals'. In her training, Chelsie dives into the common issues owners face when it comes to training staff. Most firm owners do not have the time to train paralegals, especially if paralegals don't know their specialities. It is easier for most to hire experts, like Chelsie to come in and take charge of the ‘training' reins. What makes Chelsie's program so great is that training can be state specific. This allows for the training of many different paralegals across the country.Running a side business can be a difficult task, especially if you have a busy life. Chelsie provides some tips for those who are thinking about running a side business. Being passionate about your business is so important and you need to be all in to make it work for you. It is important to just get started and get things down on paper so you are always moving towards that ultimate goal.Take a listen to learn more from Chelsie!Chelsie's Tip: If you are not happy, change your surroundings and attitude because life is short.Tyson's Tip: Do not mount your camera but to use a suction cup!4:42 Common issues law firm owners face regarding staff training 12:05 Tyson and Chelsie discuss the importance of passion13:07 Pursuing passion projects while managing existing responsibilities17:23 Strategies for motivating staffConnect with Chelsie:Website  Tune in to today's episode and checkout the full show notes here.

Watch the YouTube version of this episode HEREAre you a lawyer who is thinking about starting their own firm? In this episode of the Maximum Lawyer podcast, Jim and Tyson speak with Lauren Klein, co-founder of Flourish Law Group. Lauren shares her transformative journey working in a large firm to starting her own boutique firm.Lauren provides some insight on the challenges and rewards that come with leaving Big Law and starting a small firm. One of the rewards is the focus on marketing. For small law firms, there is flexibility to focus on the clients you want to and design a marketing plan that is unique and not controlled by a larger company. Another reward that comes with having your own firm is the ability to control the delegation of tasks and create a system or workflow that works for you as the owner.Transitioning from big law to a small firm owner can allow you to help guide new law school graduates. Most new graduates are eager to work in big firms because it means more money and more success. But, Lauren dismisses that idea in that the team and culture you have regardless of the size of the firm is what matters. Asking questions about work life balance as well as what a typical day looks should be used to make a decision.Listen in to learn more from Lauren!Jim's Hack: The phrase “first party data” which are the emails and phone numbers of people who consume your content. From an analytics perspective, it is important to know who is watching your content and how to connect with them.Lauren's Tip: Do not fall into the trap of thinking that in order to become a successful attorney, you need to be overworked, unhappy and unhealthy. Tyson's Tip: Just let it go. If you are having feelings of resentment or anger towards someone, just try to find a way to let it go and focus on yourself.2:57 The challenges and rewards of starting a law firm6:30 The struggle of delegation16:01 Experiences in big law 28:19 The myth of overwork in the legal profession Tune in to today's episode and checkout the full show notes here.Connect with Lauren:Website Instagram

In this episode, Jim and Tyson interview Nicole, the CEO and co-founder of Trellis Research, an innovative legal analytics platform. Nicole shares her background as a business litigation and labor and employment attorney, who after dealing with the challenging task of accessing state court data, created Trellis. The best thing about Trellis is that it leverages technology that helps lawyers gain a competitive advantage in the courtroom and help win their cases. Law firms who use this platform use it for a variety of things, such as judge and opposing counsel research, writing motions and learning about other cases. As CEO, Nicole speaks to the importance of evolving in any industry, especially one as complex as the legal field. Building something new is full of ups and downs and trying to figure out how to do something is challenging. Most people do not tackle an issue simply because it's too hard. But, Nicole speaks to thinking strategically and working with others to push through challenges. In a world where AI has become so popular, Trellis has a data set that can assist lawyers when they are stumped and don't know where to start. Are you writing a motion on an unfamiliar topic? Trellis can pull up a few similar motions so you can use them as a template to begin writing. This week we are starting a 12 week Super Deep Dive into Evolving Your Life We are talking about evolving your mind, body, money, business, and lifestyle. 20 years of mentors, contacts, connections....sharing with you the success secrets... ...the success clues that create the greatest change.   Topic Today:  10 Brain Tips to Keep You from Getting Frustrated or Fed Up from the Amen clinic and Doctor Daniel Amen...best selling author.   Problem:  So many people are dealing with Depression & Anxiety or Health Issues that are caused by the brain and not optimizing this amazing tool. Today I want to talk to you about ways you can optimize your brain/mind on a daily basis.   Here is the Challenge & Questions to Ask Yourself? Are you taking care of your mind...your brain...your body? What specifically are you doing and what can you do better? What types of problems or symptoms are you having that might improve your overall life with a little focus and attention to your brain?   Solution:   10 Brain Tips to Keep You (and your kids) From Getting Frazzled, Frustrated, or Fed Up 1. Look for the positive. The human brain is hardwired for negativity. Tip:  Train your brain to look for successes. 2. Fuel your brain. Feed your brain high-quality foods and start the day with some protein for better focus and energy. Amen- Brain is comprised of 80% water, and being even mildly dehydrated can negatively impact your moods—making you feel more anxious, tense, depressed, or angry—in addition to sapping your energy levels and lowering your ability to concentrate. Tip:  Drinking a gallon of water daily will change your life. 3. Exercise to boost blood flow to the brain. Brain uses 20% of the oxygen and blood flow in your body. Anything that impairs blood flow hurts your brain and impairs function.  Exercise enhances moods, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases focus and energy. Tip:  Daily Rituals in morning of exercise help you win the day. 4. Create a physical space for work and school. Train your brain by setting up physical boundaries. Tip: Do not take work into the bedroom at night or it will impact your rest. 5. Give your brain a break. The ideal amount of time to work on a single task is 75-90 minutes, Learn to Time Block Critical Tasks around these 90 min blocks. Take mini breaks. Tip:  This does not mean TV or Social Media Break... 6. Share the load. Community, Mentoring, Personal Trainers, Friends, and Family all help to lower stress, anxiety and overwhelm. Tip:  Join a small masterminds, groups or attend networking events... 7. Practice mental hygiene. In a pandemic, mental hygiene is just as important as washing your hands. Amen Clinics calls these  ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) that steal your happiness. Sometimes naming items helps to identify and eliminate negative thoughts. Tip: This week try to Recognize your negative patterns or thoughts immediately when they happen. 8. Encourage active listening at home (and work). Learn to listen first and then repeat back what you heard. It helps others feel "heard" and also helps to clarify and eliminate any miscommunications. Tip:  In business this is a great way to help others feel you are listening and respect and loyalty and performance... 9. Tell your brain it's time to relax. At the end of the day, learn to shut down your mind...super super difficult I know...I've been there. Find activities, boundaries and even rituals that help you shut down your mind...like journaling, meditation, music, etc. I find it really helpful to list what is on my mind for tomorrow so it helps you to let it go easier. Tip:  I've spoken about the idea of the Corporate Athlete…meaning the growth is in the recovery not the stress... 10. Stick to a sleep schedule. Amen Clinics suggests- While you're sleeping, your brain is hard at work performing some very critical functions necessary to keep it operating at optimal levels. For example, during sleep, your brain cleans or washes itself by eliminating cellular debris and toxins that build up during the day (basically taking out the neural trash), consolidates learning and memory, and prepares for the following day. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children ages 6-12 get 9-12 hours and teenagers 13-18 years old get 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Adults should aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Adequate sleep improves attention, behavior, learning, memory, emotional regulation, quality of life, moods, and mental health. Tip:  Create a sleep routine for yourself and your children and stick to it.   Anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, and other mental health conditions are real and it does not help to just avoid or sweep them under the rug. Find ways to take your #1 Asset (your brain) and turn it into a super power and ultimate tool for growth...practice self care.   I think it is so important for us to remember that we are not our minds.  Our brain is a tool and like anything else, you MUST keep it sharp, clean and focused.  I highly recommend any of Dr Amens books on Mental Health and Brain health and he also has an incredible podcast that he and his wife do which gives you small nuggets of health and nutrition information as well as activities for the brain and life in general.   I'll leave the link to this article and his podcast in my show notes…. A big part of innovation is saying, you know what I'm really sick of? For me, that was talk shows where music plays. Somebody walks out to a desk, shakes hands with the host and sits down. How are you? You look great. I'm also sick of people who are really there just to sell their show or. So what am I really sick of? Is a great place for innovation to begin.”So I just love that we can ask ourselves “What's something that's annoying me or that I really don't like?” and then go against the grain and do something else.Kathleen's Tip: Do not be afraid to not only use social media, BUT be yourself on it! There are no judges on TikTok, their just regular people who wanna get to know you as a person, also as a lawyer. So show up as “yourself!” Tyson's Tip: A trick to “be yourself on social media” is to visualize yourself being yourself and being that positive presence, in front of the camera. Read the complete transcription on the Sales Game Changers Podcast website. THOMAS' TIP: "Do an analysis of yourself, do a self-analysis and say, "Where do I need to improve that to get to the next level?" Sit down, write down what your strengths are. What do you need to improve upon in 2022 to get you to the next level? Then immediately find people that can help you get there. Whether that's attending the IES workshops every month, whether that's a podcast, there's so many ways that you can get better, but you first have to identify what is the one thing? Don't write down 10 things, but we can focus on no more than three."

Just the Tip from Your Podcast Performance Coach

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 11, 2022 7:32

You've heard it before. Hopefully on someone else's podcast… The host boots around the guest intro so bad that the guest either has to awkwardly say something about it. Or, there needs to be a whole conversation about it - “Did I say your name right?...”  This is not a good way to start your podcast. This is not how you take care of your listener… or your guest.  You want to come out of the gate strong. You want to be concise and clear. You want your listeners and your guest to know that you've got it all taken care of.  So, how do you do that? How do you nail your guest intro every time?    Simple, save the start until the end.    Say what?!?   Okay, if you interview guests on your podcast, think of your show as having 3 parts. There's a TOP and a TAIL or a beginning and an end.  And in the middle, is the BODY. Or, the interview. The TOP of your episode might include your tease, your show intro, your hook, and your guest intro. The TAIL includes the takeaways, your call to action, and your signoff.  The BODY is your interview which does not have to start with the TOP. Stay with me here… you do not have to record the beginning at the beginning of the interview.  You can JUST record the interview.  And then, later you record the TOP and TAIL. This will make your intro and extro or top and tail even better.  Why?  Because you'll know more about the interview once it's done and you'll be able to tee it up better and wrap it up and put a bow on it at the end better.  Only after you've done your interview do you have all the information to frame and position your episode to make it listener-centric.   REFRAME: Recording your top and tail as part of the interview makes the episode about your guest.  Crafting it after you've talked to your guest let's you reframe it, making it about your listener. Don't get me wrong. I am not suggesting that you wing it and then fix it by adding a top and tail so that nobody notices how messy the middle is.    NO!   You're still going to do your research, plan your outline, come up with your questions and record the interview, but immediately after you've recorded your guest is when you plan out your top and tail. TIP: Do it while it's fresh. Ask yourself: What were the big takeaways? What problem did you solve? What resources or tools do you have to offer your listener? Now you have context and you can bake that into the top and tail.    Crafting your TOP & TAIL after the interview will help you reinforce the value of your episode. Which will make each episode of your podcast better listening and you'll sound more like a pro (and build that authority with ease).  Isn't that what it's all about?  And the bonus, you're not wasting your guest's time while you're trying to get over the performance anxiety of getting their name right or lamely reading their bio from their website.  Oh, and you can cut out any of the crappy early stuff in the interview and bring your listener in right when the gold starts flowing.  I have so many clients that use this method now and they all agree that it's easier, better for the listener and gives them so much more flexibility this way! And, it gives them the opportunity to record a compelling show intro (#34) and the perfect guest intro (#40) even if they don't want to script the entire show (#10) .     Thank me later. 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder

The Business Accelerator: Accountability | Productivity

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 27, 2019 10:21

Today we are going to talk about 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder. Do you think working harder will get you farther? Not necessarily. In this fast-paced society, many professionals are already running at full tilt, so going faster may lead to burn-out, or worse, complete physical and emotional shutdown. So how do you get more done without working harder? This is key to work life balance success. Let's take a look at these 8 ideas for working smarter, not harder. 1. Leverage Your Strengths, Delegate the Rest For optimal results, focus on the tasks that leverage your strengths. The goal with any successful business or project is to assign the team member that can deliver the best results with the least effort and greatest effectiveness. If you want to make an easier go at it, know your strengths and focus on performing only the tasks that leverage those strengths. TIP: To download a Free Delegation List Sample to help you identify more activities to delegate, go to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/delegation-list-sample/. 2. Filter Your Info Intake On any given day, you are bombarded with mass amounts of information that can significantly drag down your productivity and cause confusion, overwhelm, and procrastination. Data is essential for making informed decisions, but beware of information overload. Only take in the information that is vital to achieving your goals and the goals of your firm – everything else is superfluous. TIP: Delegate the biggest information sources (email, research, data collection, data entry, etc.) to a team member or a consulting firm. Limit your information exposure to only the pertinent sources, while the team takes on the responsibility of flagging important information for your select review and firm growth. 3. Streamline Your Daily Duties Do not try to do it all yourself. The ability to focus your energy on the most important tasks of the day has a direct effect on the quality of the results. Therefore, it's vital that you streamline your daily duties to only the most important tasks that require your focused attention, and those things that only you can do and can't be done by someone else. TIP: Create a daily schedule of the most important and highest payoff tasks of the day – and stick to it (not always easy but critical to your success). Reduce and eliminate the non-essential duties (the tasks that are either not in alignment with your core values and/or are not income-generating) from your daily schedule. Take advantage of the high-content Free Webinars to help you be even more effective at time management and more by going to: https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/free-articles/free-webinars/. 4. Recognize Stress Signals The mind and body require rest and nutrition for peak performance. While many of us convince ourselves that working harder is the only way to get ahead, it may not produce the desired results. Take breaks, enjoy personal time, and tend to your well-being is important to overall life success. Sometimes a little rest can significantly increase productivity. TIP: Listen to your body. Pay attention to your energy level. Pushing harder to make things happen may only make the process more frustrating and even exhausting. If working harder doesn't feel right, give yourself permission to take a break. Be it 15 minutes or 1 hour, recognizing your stress signals can help you know when your body and mind need rest. You will perform better and more effectively when you have all your positive energy flowing. 5. Create Just Enough Pressure How many times have you procrastinated on getting something done only to cram the day or night before it was due? Creating just enough pressure may be the “tipping point” that you believe creates the focus you need to reach peak-productivity. TIP: Pay attention to what drives you to complete a task. Does it require a non-pressured, open-space environment with lots of time? Or some-what of a high-pressured environment to get you into action? Are you typically someone who likes to “go where the flow takes you” or do you prefer to “plan every step” far in advance? What approach produces the best results with the least amount of stress for you? Could you plan ahead even better to get things done without being last minute? 6. Maximize High Energy Cycles Following your body's natural energy cycles can help you produce better results with less effort. For instance, some people prefer to get in a healthy workout before they start their day, while others may prefer to exercise in the afternoon. Perhaps you are more sharp, on your toes, and energetic first thing in the morning. Maybe you typically get a burst of energy in the afternoon? Or perhaps you do your best work burning the midnight oil? Follow your natural energy cycles to produce the best results with the least amount of effort is ideal. TIP: Do the tasks that require the most energy and focus during your peak energy cycle. Schedule it – and follow what you have put on your calendar in order to be in the highest probability position to achieve your goals. 7. Organize and Systematize The goal with any business or profession is to produce the best results with the greatest amount of efficiency and effectiveness. Working smarter, not harder is all about systems. Systems create reliable pathways to handle business transactions and daily duties in an organized and efficient manner. Many firms don't enforce the creation of systems and processes for all jobs performed. Many team members push back by saying they don't have enough time to create them and thinking this is their job security. TIP: Create systems for everything so that you and your team can process everything from business prospects to client projects. Systems are necessary to: reduce work time, improve client results, grow your business or clientele, increase profits, reduce expenses, improve overall productivity, and support work/life balance. Successful firms have very specific and detailed systems and processes for all tasks performed by all team members. Have someone test each process to ensure they actually work, is a very good idea. 8. Start with the End in Mind Clarity of a desired goal is a catalyst for the straight path to success. You must be clear about the desired end result before you begin any task. This creates the straightest and shortest path to where you want to be. If you are going to invest your valuable time on anything you want to create the highest probability for your success. TIP: It's really a no-brainer. Have a very clear picture – I suggest you outline details on paper (or on your computer) – of the end result. Now break that goal down into sizable chunks. Keep working backwards (end result ---> steps to take now) until you have a general idea of the direction you're going before you get moving. Before taking action, ask yourself this simple question: “What's the next logical step?” or “What can I do, right now, to move closer to the desired end result?” Remember, creating better results isn't always about working harder. Points of struggle or frustration are opportunities to explore easier ways to produce what you desire. Focus and continual action in the right direction will help you work smarter, not harder. 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder

Wheel of Life Podcast: Business|Productivity|Accountability

Today we are going to talk about 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder. Do you think working harder will get you farther? Not necessarily. In this fast-paced society, many professionals are already running at full tilt, so going faster may lead to burn-out, or worse, complete physical and emotional shutdown. So how do you get more done without working harder? This is key to work life balance success. Let’s take a look at these 8 ideas for working smarter, not harder. Therefore, it’s vital that you streamline your daily duties to only the most important tasks that require your focused attention, and those things that only you can do and can’t be done by someone else. 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder

Goal Setting & Achievement Podcast: Business|Productivity

Today we are going to talk about 8 Ideas to Help You Work Smarter and Not Harder. Do you think working harder will get you farther? Not necessarily. In this fast-paced society, many professionals are already running at full tilt, so going faster may lead to burn-out, or worse, complete physical and emotional shutdown. So how do you get more done without working harder? This is key to work life balance success. Let’s take a look at these 8 ideas for working smarter, not harder. Therefore, it’s vital that you streamline your daily duties to only the most important tasks that require your focused attention, and those things that only you can do and can’t be done by someone else. If working harder doesn’t feel right, give yourself permission to take a break. 6. Maximize High Energy Cycles Following your body’s natural energy cycles can help you produce better results with less effort. Many firms don’t enforce the creation of systems and processes for all jobs performed. Many team members push back by saying they don’t have enough time to create them and thinking this is their job security. TIP: It’s really a no-brainer. Have a very clear picture – I suggest you outline details on paper (or on your computer) – of the end result. Now break that goal down into sizable chunks. Keep working backwards (end result ---> steps to take now) until you have a general idea of the direction you’re going before you get moving. Before taking action, ask yourself this simple question: “What’s the next logical step?” or “What can I do, right now, to move closer to the desired end result?” Remember, creating better results isn’t always about working harder. Points of struggle or frustration are opportunities to explore easier ways to produce what you desire. Focus and continual action in the right direction will help you work smarter, not harder. Welcome to Jungle Jam! This podcast is featured on mobilitytoday.eu/ People behind are three Bulgarians Ivan, Ivo, and Alex Executed by My Mood on My Mind team members. mymoodonmymind.com/ Immerse yourself in a foreign culture. The first question is the culture? Culture is a story. It is the story that we tell ourselves and the story we tell others. Cultures come from colera from Latin meaning nurture and flourish. Culture is like a water to the fish. The cultural shock can help you realize the cultural bubble you are living in. Let’s talk about cultural barriers and how to cross them. - Language - Labeling people -Stereotypes People focus on differences and not the commonalities. Focus on the positive and the commonalities we have within different cultures. Assumptions come from a culture and they are this sometimes I the reason we do not approach strangers for a conversation. Different cultures - Western civilisation vs Eastern civilisation. Seek to understand is to be understood. Fundamentally first we need to become aware of them that they exist. Afrawards accept them and be less judgemental. Tip: Do not take things personally. Growth mindset vs fixed mindset. How do you completely immersed in a different culture? -It is a really good idea to start with learning some basic phrases. -Engage with people. -Explore the culture, restaurants, and museums. -Subcultures - for example going to the local gym and meet the people that workout. Because even before starting to speak you already have one thing in common. It can be anything basketball, surfing, football etc. - Attend meetups. Do not be explore afraid to explore, that way you will be able to stretch your horizons. Send us a message at contact@mobilitytoday.eu Stay tuned.

All about Instagram TV.  Episode Summary: What is IGTV? How does it work? Why might you use it for your business & brand? How do I plan on using it for Mike Murphy Co? Follow me on Instagram & IGTV @mikeunplugged. What is IGTV? IGTV was launched in late June 2018 by Instagram. Instagram is owned by Facebook. There are now over 1 Billion users on Instagram. There are over 2 Billion users on Facebook. IGTV is a standalone app, separate from Instagram, but you can access IGTV from the main Instagram app. So what exactly is IGTV? Many are referring to it as TV for mobile devices, aka your phones. The channels on IGTV are you and me. Every content creator is their own channel and it is open to anyone and everyone. IGTV gives you a channel for you to create content that people browsing IGTV and can stop and watch and if they like what they can see, they can let you know by liking or commenting and following you, just like on Instagram. When you open IGTV, videos start playing automatically. Just like when you turn on your TV. Instagram gives you some options to browse including: For You, Explore, Following & Popular and you can search for creators. You cannot search for topics, but you can search for channels. Open the IGTV app and videos will start playing or if you are in the main Instagram app, just look in the upper right for the Orange TV icon and that will take you into IGTV. How Does IGTV Work? IGTV is all about vertical videos for your phone. The correct aspect ratio for IGTV is 9:16. The 9 is the width and the 16 is the height. This is the opposite of horizontal videos you would post on YouTube which have an aspect ration of 16:9. Just think vertical. Taller than it is wide. Tip: Do not place text or important elements or graphics close to the edges when making videos for IGTV or they may get caught off on certain phones. The most common size you will likely use for IGTV is 1080 px wide by 1920 pixels high. This is what your iPhone shoots and is the exact same aspect ratio and size for Instagram Stories. Videos you make for IGTV must be a minimum of 15 seconds long and a maximum of 10 minutes long. For accounts with over 10,000 followers & verified accounts can post videos up to 1-hour long, but for now, the average creator is limited to a maximum of 10-minutes per video. You can upload videos from your phone or in a web browser like Chrome or Safari which is pretty convenient. You can select a Custom Thumbnail or Cover Image. You can add a Title & Description And you have the option to Share to your Facebook Pages. If you do have over 10,000 followers and find you have the option to upload 1-hour videos, you will have to use a web browser. Uploading from a phone is not an option for the long videos. Viewers of your IGTV videos can leave comments that will show up in both IGTV and Instagram. They can also like and share to friends. IGTV also integrates with Instagram Stories in that you can create links in your Stories and viewers can simply swipe up and it will take them directly to any video you link to on your IGTV channel. So Why Should You Consider Using it for your business or brand? For starters, remember the stat about Instagram & Facebook having 3 Billion users, well that is one important reason. Instagram is massively popular and IGTV could be a really big deal for creators and brands to get exposure and market your business. IGTV is the first of its kind to focus on video made for phones (vertical) and mobile devices is how people are currently consuming the most content today, so the bottom line is IGTV is relevant and is adapting to the technology and the end user. You need to be where the eyeballs are, plain and simple and there is a lot of eyeballs on Instagram & Facebook. You cannot win if you do not play. You should consider using IGTV for your business and brand for many reasons, but here are a few: You can tell the story of your brand in long-form videos. You can market and advertise products and services. You can entertain or educate your followers and clients. You can network and collaborate with other brands and businesses. You can paint the picture of who you are and what you are trying to accomplish in your own creative way. Aside: Creating content is hard. Keeping up with the popular social media channel or buzz of the day is exhausting. One week you need to be doing Facebook Live and the next week it’s Instagram Live or Instagram Stories and now it’s IGTV. You can’t do everything and be everywhere at once, but you do need to be smart and be where people are and currently Instagram is wildly popular and influential, so you should not sleep on it. But here’s the secret, you need to get good at making content (writing, making videos, recording podcasts) because those are the core skills required to be relevant online today. Stop worrying about it and just figure out a method that you can get content out to the world that represents you and your business or brand. It does not have to be fancy or high-production, it just has to be uploaded so people can see it. Do not go on IGTV because everyone is doing it or it’s the latest thing. Go on IGTV because it is an opportunity to reach more people and showcase your skills or talents or products and services or whatever you are trying to achieve with your online presence. Maybe you want to grow your podcast audience. Maybe you want to send people to your YouTube channel. It doesn’t matter. It’s a a free and open stage for you to do anything. You just have to be innovative and put in the work. How Do I Plan on Using IGTV: I’m not overthinking and I am putting up content, but I see an open canvas and a real opportunity to showcase everything I am building in my own unique voice and style and to sharpen my skills and talents. I am looking at IGTV like a YouTube channel but with more opportunity to be creative and mix up the content. I plan on posting tutorials and quick tips made for vertical viewing. I plan on creating entertaining and fun animation style videos that range from promoting this podcast to promoting Murphy Concierge that may be marketing my business but also showing my skills as a creative and video creator. I also plan on doing behind the scenes and vlog style videos that are a little more cinematic and interesting. Not overly polished or dramatic, but visually interesting and storytelling in nature with voiceover narratives or music driving the video. I see IGTV as the almost perfect platform for creatives to let their freak flag fly and be unique by doing something nobody else has done before. IGTV is going to be my reality show for Mike Murphy Co and I can tell the story however I want and people will watch if it is entertaining, inspiring or they can make a connection with me. That will take trying new things and experimenting. I’m good with that and you should be too. In short for me, IGTV I am looking at as a story-telling platform for me and my brand. I plan to share who I am am what I am doing in my own version of a vlog. A creative infomercial And to be clear, the content I create may be promoting me or showcasing my skills, but everything I make is with the end user in mind. Will this piece of content teach something or be entertaining or will it inspire people to go create something for themselves. In conclusion: IGTV is a standalone app on iOS & Android Phones that plays vertical videos 24/7 and it and the channels on this TV are individual creators. Everyone is welcome to create content on IGTV. You cannot shoot live videos on Instagram TV. Videos can be uploaded from your Camera Roll on your phone or you can use a web browser on your computer, which is a nice feature. Videos must be at least 15 seconds long and up to 10 minutes maximum. If you have over 10,000 followers or are a verified account you can upload videos up to 1 hour long, but you must use a browser to upload the longer videos. The aspect ratio for IGTV videos is 9:16. The opposite of wide/horizontal videos you watch on YouTube. The size you will most like make for videos is 1080px wide by 1920 px high. Why you should consider using IGTV to promote your business and brand: Because Instagram & Facebook is big. There is a lot of positive momentum. There is endless opportunity for you whether it be to grow your podcast or sell your product or simply build a community. Do not feel compelled to create IGTV because you feel pressured. Do it because you understand that connecting with people and having your message and story be heard is the name of the game, and the easiest way to do so is to go where people are. IGTV may or may not be a big deal in a few months from now and it does not matter. What matters is the practice and exercise of telling your story and building relationships with people who want to be part of your journey. IGTV is giving you a really easy platform for you to do anything you want. You just have to do it. Me on IGTV? I will post tutorials, but I am also figuring out how to double down on sharing my story of building an online business around teaching people how to create content and inspiring people to create the life they want, by demonstrating how I am doing it. I make no bones about it that it is hard and can be frustrating at times and there is tons of self-doubt and uncertainty involved, but I know it will be worth it and I want to take others along the ride for fuel to keep creating and to make an impact. If you have questions about IGTV or anything, you can reach me anytime at mike@mikemurphy.co.

This hesitation can be attributed to one’s ego and sometimes, a belief that asking for help is actually bothering other people. People actually want to help you” 21:01 – End of today’s episode 3 Key Points: Company updates create a climate of discussing and resolving issues as a team. Beware of your ego—it may hinder you from getting the help that you need. Sharing with others WILL benefit you and people WANT to help—you may not get an answer to your problem, but you’ll receive support just through the act of sharing. Steli: Hey everyone, this is Steli Efti. Hiten: And this is Hiten Shah, and in today's episode of "The StartUp Chat",  we're going to talk about how to ask for help. And I'm going to jump  right in because I would say that until very recently maybe a few years ago,  I don't think I was very good at asking other people for help. I felt  like I needed to do everything on my own, so I'm dropping that in the beginning, just to kick it off. Steli: Yeah, I'm going to agree with you on this, but funny enough, I think that  ... So I think for me, I was not good at asking for help in  personal matter...

He focuses exclusively towards the Direct Response TV arena which has resulted in the successful development of innovative TV marketing formats for a host of popular new products. He specializes in finding products, developing marketing strategies, and implementing the plans. His success stories include dramatic wins in both short-and long-form advertising and home shopping sales  Period in full time business  Never worked for anybody. Has owned businesses since he was 7 years old starting with lawn mowing/snow shovelling services and later while in high school, a painting company which put him through college. After college, he started an import company which led him to start his current business, Top Dog Direct.  Was the first person to import products for QVC and also worked on air selling the products which led him to specialize in the “As Seen on TV” products industry. Made more than 3,000 appearances on air within a 5 year period. QVC later bought his 100-Million dollar import company  Tough moments starting the import company and overcoming them  Was fortunate enough to get his first client as QVC which depended on him wholly as their sole importer thus ensuring sustainable revenue for him in the long-term.   Tip 1: Try to do one thing and do it very well  Tip 2: In business, when you do what you do very well, clients automatically recommend you to other clients  Reason for starting an import company and getting the first customer  Got introduced to the import business by a friend who had experience and success in the industry. The friend gave him the necessary industry knowledge and contacts necessary to set up his import entity.  Tip: Do not start a business without a game plan and make sure you develop a good business plan  Finding manufacturers/suppliers for his products  Currently works with the most established company in East Asia, Base4, which has offices across China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. The company has been manufacturing all his products exclusively for the last 15 years.   Growing the current business  Doesn't worry about growing the business, concentrates more on getting new products to keep sales going due to the fact that the “As Seen on TV” products business is primarily dependent on new products that attract demand.   He finds products from inventors, produces them; and sells them on TV and through online channels  Core revenue streams  The primary sources of revenue are retailers and online channels which have so far been extremely profitable  Product cycle from inventor to the market  Takes product ideas from inventors and has his engineers develop CAD/CAM drawings. It can take up to 90 days to develop a mould of the product and an additional 30 to 45 days to put out a television commercial of the product after which the product is tested on television with $25,000 worth of media. When the product sells well on TV, Bill approaches retailers like Wal-Mart so they can buy the product in large scale.   Works on 14 to 20 products a year with only 3 to 4 making to the market and thriving in terms of sales. Comes across thousands and sometimes tens of thousands of products every year. Constantly looks for new products online (for example, Kickstarter), Amazon, QVC, and other sources.  Selling inventors' products on TV without charging them any money upfront  Understands the financial hardships that inventors go through while developing their products and therefore prefers to offer them a long-term partnership during the development process of their products from idea to market. Once a product makes to the market and achieves...

Also if you might want to think about adding any tag lines, value prop or call to action in the picture. Add a Profile Picture and get 11X’s More Views: A picture is worth a thousand words.  Your LinkedIn picture is worth a lot of money. The number one rule is to have a professional photo done for your LinkedIn profile. This is one of the first things that people look at on your LinkedIn profile. In fact, 50% of B2B buyers use LinkedIn to source suppliers. 50% of those buyers will avoid an incomplete profile and the first thing that usually see on a profile is the picture, so make it count. In addition, profiles with a picture get viewed 11 X’s more often. There is a great service that you can use called PhotoFeeler, that will tell you how likeable, competent and influential your LinkedIn profile photo is.  PhotoFeeler has a free account or you can pay for the service. What Photofeeler does is have 10+ people rate your photo on 3 characteristics; Competence, Likability and Influence.  What they also found is that the two strongest traits fro LinkedIn are Competence and Influence. Here are some do not’s for your LinkedIn profile photo: No selfies Don’t have your pet in your picture How to Use Your Headline To Generate Sales Leads: Your LinkedIn Profile headline is one of the first things that people see on your profile. What LinkedIn does is pull in your most current job title.  So you may see something like “Territory Sales Representative for XYZ Company”.  Honestly, that is not very compelling. What you have to do is give a reason for someone to reach out to you. I use the following formula for a LinkedIn headline: Who you are + results you get + a call to action For example, my headline is: Your SMB Sales and Marketing Go To Person Who Can Generate Up To 10 X’s More Sales Leads - Ask me how. So following my rule, here are the components: Who your are - “Your SMB Sales and Marketing Go To Person” Results you get - “Who Can Generate Up To 10 X’s More Sales Leads” Call to action - “Ask me how” Tip: Do not use your phone number or your email address in the headline, this breaches LinkedIn’s terms and conditions and you can have your account shut down. In the next post I will give you even more LinkedIn Profile post tips and tricks that you can use to generate more views of your profile and potentially more sales leads.

All About Webinars If you haven't run a webinar yet, then this podcast is for you. Have you seen the emergence of video on the web? You have? Well, it's time to get involved. Video is becoming a dominant medium. Twitter introduced Periscope. Facebook has Facebook Live. There's YouTube too. Video is important to you if you are doing business online. It is looking like Facebook Live will present options for you in the same way as Webinars do. Some things make webinars different. When you put a webinar together the end-to-end process is an entire sales funnel. An advert that directs people to a sign up page > capturing a name and email address along with a registration for a webinar at a particular time > sending a series of reminder emails to trail the main event > in the webinar, you get to present live to camera, or play pre-recorded video or screen-shot mode (like PowerPoint) > webinar provides a chat box for feedback > and when the ‘teaching' part of the webinar moves into the ‘sales' part of the webinar, you can display buttons for people to click that will transit to a sales page > plus the webinar can be recorded to enable you to do things with the recording. Advert – the use of headlines to grab people's attention. Appeal to an audience. The more your advert resonates with people with the specific issues your webinar addresses the more chance you have to make a sale. The webinar can be sold on limited access. You might not get in. So act now and secure your seat. Attend at a time which is good for you. You don't have to be in front of the screen either. Talk to slides. Kevin bought a white board to do his first Periscope presentation. But there is more to doing a few slides. You have to be prepared. There are a number of moving parts. The Apple alternative is Keynote. How long should the webinar be? An hour to 90 minutes. So about a PowerPoint of 30 slides. You can of course keep attention by adding images and one point per slide. Don't put your speaking notes as points on your slides. The landing page is designed to capture your email and name and how to join the webinar. The reminder emails are important to get you to attend. So many people fall off. Kevin cloned Amy Porterfield's emails to attend her webinar course. Shamelessly copy! You will get early drop offs as some people realise the content is not right for them. What about webinar software? The software: There are two options that lead the market: WEBINAR JAM and EASY WEBINAR. Both tools have good reviews and cover  everything. Kevin has used WEBINAR JAM. The landing page. Typically, you might do several webinars in a day. Recognising an international audience. The landing page will help you choose the time of webinar you want. The emails you send to remind people has to be co-ordinated with the webinar they chose to attend. Doing this with AWeber or Mailchimp is really difficult. TIP: Do a practice run. TIP: You can create an automated presentation and live answer chat box questions. This allows you to ‘perfect' your presentation. You can manage the webinar rather than focus on doing the webinar. TIP: Can you get a colleague to join you to handle the chat box. For a webinar to be worthwhile, run it for at least 20 minutes. Communicate relevant content to the audience that you want. The better your message to market match is, the greater the sale chance? You can do all this without Webinar Jam, but you have to manage a lot of moving parts. So here's the LINK! https://www.webinarjam.com Maybe authenticity comes from a mix and live elements. Feedback in the chat box allows you to re-present parts of what you are saying again. WebinarJam allows more than one presenter too. Now that means Kevin will probably rope me into a future webinar!! Ultimately, you probably want a one-to-one conversation. This is a good way to close more sales. The Numbers behind a webinar Kevin answers a few questions:

If setting up (or enhancing) an email list for your business is on your list of New Year’s Resolutions, listen to this episode. In this episode, I talk about why you should start an email list, how to get started, the different approaches you can take to an email list, and how to grow your subscriber base. Why should you have an email list? Here are just a few reasons why having an email list by benefit your business. It provides you with a direct connection to your fanbase without another platform as an intermediary. People check their email regularly throughout the day, so you can connect with them on their schedule. Your subscribers will have a direct, individual connection to your emails (rather than the feeling of being "broadcasted at" that comes with social media posting). Business report seeing boosts in sales after sending out emails to their subscribers. When your business faces another disruption (e.g., your website goes down), it's a great way of letting your audience know what is happening. How should you set up an email list? The most important thing is to get started, not to develop the most masterful email strategy that ever existed. You can always improve and update over time. I recommend starting with MadMimi or MailChimp, both of which have permanently free accounts for small subscriber lists. Both offer affordable plans for people with smaller lists, as well, so you can grow your list before spending a lot of time researching different companies and features. MadMimi is a bit easier (more "low tech") to use, while MailChimp offers more features in its free plan. How should you approach your email list? There are several simple options to consider for your email list. RSS feed: If you have a website or blog that you update with some regularity, you can set up an RSS feed so that your subscribers are alerted via email to any new posts on your site. Newsletter: You may want to write an email to your list on a regular basis (e.g., weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly). This can include links to your latest posts, original content for subscribers, roundups of relevant information you’ve found online, and more. Updates: You may choose to send sporadic emails to your list when something new happens in your business (e.g., a new product is released, you’re teaching a new class, or there’s a sale). Autoresponders: You may choose to set up a sequence of replies that are automatically delivered to your subscribers on a schedule based on when they subscribed. For example, the first email can be sent one day after they subscribe and the second email can be sent two weeks after they subscribe. Listen to the episode for more details about each approach. How do you get subscribers? Once you understand your approach, you can start recruiting subscribers. Consider letting potential subscribers know more about your approach wherever they can opt-in to subscribe. Here are some other ways to grow your email list. Update your website: Include subscription opt-ins in a sidebar, your About and Contact pages, and even in posts on your site. Update your social media profiles: Use the “sign up” option on your Facebook page, and include a link to your email list on your Ravelry, Etsy, G+, and other social profiles. Update your “thank you” message: Change the automatic reply sent to your customers on Etsy and Ravelry (or other marketplaces) to include a link to your mailing list. Giveaways: Some companies offer giveaways to their subscribers as an incentive to encourage people to sign up. Lead magnet: Offer a free ebook, checklist, or other desirable product “in exchange” for a subscription. Tip: Do not get stuck on this. If you don’t have a lead magnet, you can still start an email list. After all, regular cardio exercise has been shown to reduce body fat, decrease total cholesterol, boost mood, lower resting heart rate, and improve heart and lung function. It's almost like a magic "health" pill when you think about! How does one particular thing go from "activity" to "cardio?" It just has to meet two principles. The first is intensity: It only counts as cardio when you elevate your heart rate into an aerobic zone, which is 55% to 85% of your maximum heart rate. You can calculate your target heart rate here. Simply check your pulse during any activity to find out if your activity counts as exercise. Second is time: For any activity to count as cardio, it has to last at least 10 minutes per session. Shoot for a minimum of 10-20 minutes per session, building up to a full hour over time. And remember, time can be cumulative, so 10 minutes here and there throughout the day is a perfectly fine and convenient way to squeeze in your cardio! TIP: Do at least 3 days of cardio/week — with no more than 2 days off between sessions. As you get stronger, you can work towards doing cardio 5 to 6 days a week Email me at Kay@onthehorn.com Keep Fit and don’t quit! subscribe-with-itunes-button
