Send us a Text Message. This week on Fabulous Film & Friends it's the moment all yall cowpokes been watin' fer. We're biting the bullet and comparing the two star-studded “Gunfight at the OK Corral” epics, pitting 1993's Tombstone directed by George Pan Cosmatos starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Stephen Lang, Dana Delany, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Joanna Pacula Michael Rooker, Thomas Hayden Church, Jason Priestly, Billy Zane, Billy Bob Thornton, Charleton Heston and Robert Mitchum against 1994's Wyatt Earp directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid, Michael Madsen, Tom Sizemore, Bill Pullman, Linden Ashby, David Andrews, Isabella Rossellini Mare Winningham, Jobeth Williams, Catherine O'Hara, Allison Elliot, Annabeth Gish, Joanna Going, Mark Harmon, Jeff Fahey, Lewis Smith, Adam Baldwin, Martin Kove, Jim Caviezel, Tea Leoni, Betty Buckley and Gene Hackman. I'm your host Gino Caputi and I have quite a lineup of hired guns on this edition starting with my kid sis and prairie loving Roseanne Caputi, the sons of Eastern Oregon and Northern Utah, Burton Brown and David Johnson, DMD, Texas Joe Field and the rootin' tootin' est actor photographer this side of the Columbia River, Gordon Alex Robertson. Alright, before we throw down and draw: the synopses. Tombstone finds retired lawman Wyatt Earp and his brothers Virgil and Morgan along with their wives settling in the Arizona mining town of Tombstone to seek their fortunes. Their plans go awry when Curly Bill Brocius, Ike and Bill Clanton and rest of The Cowboy gang start making trouble and allegedly kill the Tombstone Marshall Fred White. The Earp Brothers don the tin stars and are sworn in once again to face off with the members of the gang at the legendary OK Corral. Wyatt Earp basically tells the same story except with a bit more backstory more and A LOT more padding. Which film wins the duel? Find out!! It's June, so that means it's time for the AIPT Movies podcast's “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt are joined by comic book artist/writer Tony Sedani (Return to Rander, Skin Deep), to discuss Paul W.S. Anderson's first journey into the world of video game adaptations, 1995's Mortal Kombat!Endearingly dated VFX! A lovably awkward-looking four-armed monster man with back problems! A delicious turkey dinner being heartlessly discarded! Surprisingly faithful character designs! An unexplained cybernetic eye! More high kicks than you can count! A committed cast that includes Robin Shou, Bridgette Wilson, Linden Ashby, Trevor Goddard, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and a wonderfully-miscast Christopher Lambert! An iconic EDM soundtrack that not only influenced future Mortal Kombat games, but possibly also The Matrix and 1998's Blade! An enjoyably sincere and campy movie with vibrant colors and impressive sets that looks shockingly expensive by modern standards, which despite its watered down gore, may also be one of the most faithful and successful video game adaptations of all time!In addition, everyone shares their spoiler-free thoughts on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, while Tony talks about In A Violent Nature, and Alex discusses the remarkably bizarre 1999 rom-com, Never Been Kissed! You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. IT HAS BEGUN! And just like that, it has ended. This is it, folks! The Season 3 Finale is here... it's time to... FINISH IT! In case you hadn't picked up on it, or in case you were not aware of the greatest fighting game of the late 20th Century and it's infinitely mimicable sound bites, today's film on The CineMEH Podcast is 1995's immortal... Mortal Kombat! Based on the video game that was based on "kung fu" movies of yesteryear that borrows the exact plot beats of those movies that would go on to inform the video game... look, I'll stop babbling, it's a derivative movie, okay?! Josh and Ryan talk what makes Mortal Kombat a surprisingly competent film, what it's obvious shortfalls are, how the cast really make the movie, and why this film's soundtrack helped propell it into the pop culture stratosphere. And while the discussion here isn't exactly PG13, for those who are faint of heart, rest assured there are no fatality descriptions in this episode. Cause... cause this movie didn't have them. In what our critics are calling a 'flawless victory' of a finale, Josh and Ryan are proud to bring you the final episode of The CineMEH Podcast's third season! See you next year, folks! Mortal Kombat was released in 1995 and stars Christopher Lambert, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Robin Shou, Bridgette Sampras and Linden Ashby. The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media, LLC production Like what you hear? Check out our other podcast, Morning Radio, TBD available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon and Google podcasts. This week we close the month with a four pack of Steve Seagal in the 21st Century. When ICE arrest a pair of OTMs (Other Than Mexican) who are affiliated with both AQAP AND Daesh (which would never happen) blows open a conspiracy of the (long defunct) Sonora Cartel smuggling in terrorists. A collaboration for reasons that aren't made very clear. The federal government has only one man to turn to, former DEA/CIA/FBI/USASF asset John Harmon. Harmon once was in a Sonora compound and that's why he's the only man who can lead this mission, the why wasn't made very clear, but for some reason they gave him a... CONTRACT TO KILL! The world has fallen to an outbreak of viral vampirism. A band of former military, led by a mysterious man called Tao, roams the wastes killing the infected with bladed weapons and leather coats for... reasons... bad ass reasons you wouldn't understand. Meanwhile, poor deserves better than this Keith David and Linden Ashby clash heads as one wants to, rightly, flash fry the overwhelmed with infected building Tao's group is wondering through for reasons that aren't made very clear. Who can stand... AGAINST THE DARK!! Marshall Law, not the Tekken character.... yeah... I got excited too, leads an elite unit for the US Military in France. In theory anyway because his whole unit is murdered on their first night together. This brings Law into an elaborate conspiracy of French mobsters and super drugs... and maybe aliens... who plan on poisoning the Parisian water supply to turn everyone into an addicted murder machine. For reasons that aren't made very clear. Who will survive the... ATTACK FORCE!!! After single handedly saving the Vice President of the United States from a militant group's assassination attempt, Detroit detective Orin Boyd, is punished and sent to the city's worst precinct. Before long, Boyd accidentally disrupts a sting operation against drug dealer Latrell Walker and makes an enemy of the undercover officer involved. Soon everything will be made so explicitly clear. Everywhere Boyd goes he leaves a lot of... EXIT WOUNDS!!!! All that and Dave takes a boat trip, Craig's machinations finally spring their trap, Kevin reveals the extent of his emotional traumas, and Tyler does so much homework that we all worry for his safety. “Those were $500 sunglasses, asshole!” This iconic line was improvised by none other than Linden Ashby, whose portrayal of Johnny Cage in 1995's Mortal Kombat was nothing short of incredible. A skilled martial artist, Linden held his own in a number of fight sequences as he battled to survive Shang Tsung's tournament. Mortal Kombat aside, Linden is a keen surfer, and has since appeared in a number of movies and hit television shows, most notably as Noah Stilinski in MTV's Teen Wolf. Linden is set to reprise his role in Teen Wolf: The Movie, due for release on Paramount+ on 26 January 2023. — FOLLOW LINDEN ASHBY — Twitter: https://twitter.com/lindenashby Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/linden_ashby

The new Mortal Kombat is finally out! No, not the new movie from Warner Bros! Our new episode of The OST about Paul WS Anderson's seminal 1995 martial arts master class in cinema. That's right, after almost 8 MONTHS, we're back with A Very Special episode. Let it be known: we recorded these episodes way back in August 2020 with the intention of releasing them immediately in celebration of the film's 25th anniversary. For some reason it just never happened, but as it turns out who cares? Just keep that in mind! In celebration of the new movie, we're finally releasing them to no acclaim. There is a ton of talk about things that have either occurred by now, or are currently happening. We hope you enjoy, and as the great Shang Tsung says: "Treasure these moments." (Producer's note: There is a short reference to Elliot Page. We recorded these episodes before he came out as trans. We support all trans people, and mean no offense to Elliot by using his dead name.)
::Insert Mortal Kombat Scream Here::Adults everywhere were pissed that a popular video game was full of so much violence that people decided to make a movie about it and we're all grateful. Mortal Kombat (1995) is a shlocky action film with some terrible dialogue that actually has some decent fight sequences. Sure it feels like it should be a SyFy original movie called "Demon Fight Saga Tournament" or something stupid but we love it anyway. And the soundtrack? I don't want to live in a world without it. We pair it with a 2014 The Immortal Zin. The label looks semi-homemade but the wine is good.Movie Sync Notes: We watch the movie on Amazon Prime. We start "Mortal Kombat" 5:39 into the pod, and push play on part two 58:17 into the pod.

The younger boy is defeated, and we see it's Liu Kangs dream. Next we're on a raid of some sort, with Sonya and Jax looking for Kano. Kano is working with Shang Sung to get Sonya on a boat. Next, we flash to LA and a Johnny Cage facing 4 guys in, what we learn, is a movie. His mentor convinces him to participate in a tournament, and is then shown to be Shang Sung in disguise. Liu Kang returns to the temple of light. He argues with his grandfather, and wants to represent the temple in the tournament. Enter Raiden. The fighters are shown waiting on the dock when a mystical boat appears. Sonya sees Kano board the boat and follows him. The main characters are introduced to each other. Sonya, searching for Kano finds Shang Sung, and are introduced to Scorpion and Subzero. Raiden stops them from fighting. Raiden then explains to them what Mortal Kombat is, and that if Shang Sung wins, the Outworld warriors will invade Earth. Shang Sung declares the tournament has begun.S:-I love that the movie just starts with the techno theme. Super 90's.-The dialoge is a bit... Eh-Eye electricity-Boat CGI isn't that bad.-Why 10 victories to be able to invade? The fighters arrive to the island, where they're shown climbing impossibly tall stairs. Liu Kang eyes Kitana, and we see the very poorly cgi'd reptile is sent to follow them. The fighters are at a banquet, that is disrupted by Shang Sung, and we're shown what Subzero can do, when he freezes and explodes a fighter. Flawless victory. Liu Kang, Sonya and Johnny Cage follow Shang Sung, who leads them to Kano an our first proper view of Goro. He gives some exposition on who Shang Sung is, and who he is. The three are heard trying to leave, and Shang Sung sends men after them. Liu Kang has an encounter with Reptile. Johnny leads them in a circle back to the hall where Kano was, and 6 guys attack them. After, Raiden saves them from a large group of attackers. Raiden gives some exposition on Shang Sung, and the tournament begins with Liu Kang fighting a dude, who he defeats, and Shang Sung takes his soul with a fatality. Next is a supposedly long awaited fight between Sonya and Kano. Sonya ends up killing Kano with her signature move from the game. Next, Johnny Cage is walking through a forest, and he encounters Scorpion, Scorpion sends his hand/hook thing at Johnny, which he evades, and when he tries to reel it in, Johnny goes after him, and they end up in Scorpions lair where the intense fight continues. Scorpion does his signature fatality from the game, which Johnny repels with a shield, which he then uses to kill Scorpion...and ends with a signed photo of him.S:-Johnny Cages one liners, "cant wait to see what the bathrooms look like"-Again, like Double Dragon, you can tell who has martial arts training.-The floor in the room where Kano was, you can see the squares that makes up the floor.-What's with all the pageantry before the fight?-The guy who plays Kano is SO much bigger than Sonya, those haymakers would have taken her out.-Johnny Scorpion fight was well choreographed.-Ed Boone, creator of Mortal Kombat, voiced Scorpion. Liu Kang is to fight Kitana on a beach. As they fight, she gives him advice for life and his next fight. In the main hall, Raiden is shown to bringing in buckets of water as Liu Kang enters, and SubZero comes down the stairs, their fight begins. SubZero powers up some sort of ice attack, and Liu Kang realizes he can use the water to stop the attack, which impales Sub Zero and freezes him. Goro is shown to enter the tournament and destroy all the humans with ease. We're shown a fight where Goro kills an unnamed fighter Johnny had made a connection with earlier on. Goro kills him with a flawless victory, Shang Sung then takes his soul. Raiden gives a pep talk. Telling them they'll have to face their fears. Liu meditates, Johnny and Sonya talk and Johnny is going to fight Goro to protect Sonya. Raiden tries to stop him, but he makes the deal with Shang Sung. Goro and Johnny meet to fight, Johnny does his move from the game, does the splits, and punches him in the crotch. Johnny runs off and Goro chases him, to a clif. Johnny hides above the entrance and surprises him, and knocks him off the cliff to his death. Shang Sung kidnaps Sonya to Outworld for the final fight. As they walk through Outworld, Liu catches Reptile, and throws him into a stature, which he then becomes a human-like fighter, and the two fight. Liu ends the fight by doing his video game move, the bicycle kick to Reptile, who turns back into the stature and as the reptile creature tries to escape, he kills it. Kitana then tells them what happened to Outworld. She tells him he'll face 3 challenges in the black tower, where Sonya is shown being held.S:-The Goro animatronics are so bad. The top hands and head are terrible.-That Veronica Vaughn...-Cary Tagawa is pretty good in this.-The Goro yells are annoying.Shang Sung and Sonya exchange dialog, and Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, and Kitana are there beside them. Shang Sung challenges Johnny Cage, but Liu then challenges him. As the mortal kombat theme begins, so does their fight. Liu lands a good punch, and uses the souls of a thousand dead warriors and brings in extra fighters. Liu defeats all of them. As he goes to challenge Shang Sung, he morphs into his younger brother Chan, and tries to convince him to give in, as spikes are raised on the ground below (like the stage "The Pit" from the first MK game)... He switches back and they continue to fight. Shang Sung thinks hes won, but Liu realizes his power and begins to make him free the souls. He tries to make him surrender, which he wont. Liu beats him back to the edge and finishes him with a fireball to the chest, and onto a spike. The turns in a shriveled skeleton, and explodes with light and the souls are released. Liu makes peace with his brothers soul. They're shown back at the temple on Earth and everyone is celebrating. Raiden is waiting for them. As they walk, the emperor is shown to be attacking, saying hes come for their souls, and Raiden responds with, "I don't think so." Cue fighting pose and MK theme music.S:-I like that they changed Sonyas outfit and blew out her hair too. Gotta be pretty as a slave/fighter.-This was obviously a VERY well rehearsed fight.-I've never understood why everyone waits to take their turn to fight like that...-LOVE the end song. Actor Linden Ashby reflects on playing Johnny Cage in "Mortal Kombat", released 25 years ago this month. The actor, also known for his work on TV's "Melrose Place" and "Teen Wolf", talks career highs and lows, dealing with depression, his love of "Friday Night Lights" and moving behind the camera.
This week – GET OVER HERE – it’s the 25th anniversary of the stupidly watchable Mortal Kombat movie! Which Hollywood star was originally cast as Sonya Blade but had to leave production after breaking her wrist? Which Oscar-winner turned down Raiden so he could focus on his golf game? And why was Sonya dressed like Shrek the last third of the film? Also – meet Manny, the medic/security guard who doesn’t care how big a celebrity you are: get off his set! Mortal Kombat stars Robin Shou, Christopher Lambert, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Linden Ashby, Talisa Soto, Trevor Goddard, and Prince Goro as himself; directed by Paul W.S. Think back, many eons ago, to our pilot episode: Event Horizon. It is absolutely shocking to think that Paul W.S. Anderson directed that film and also Mortal Kombat. While he went on to do other video game adaptations like Resident Evil and Alien vs Predator, those films overlap just a little more than ninjas and possessed spaceships. The film is obviously based on the game of the same name. Did you know the game was developed by a team of four guys in just eight months? Did you know that the game was almost called Kumate? Death Blow? Dragon Attack? Fatality? While we focus mainly on the 1995 film, we talk about Annihilation and the recently released Scorpion's Revenge, as well as the comics, cartoons, TV shows, and even the live action stunt show. Produced by Lawrence Kasanoff, the same dude who did Blood Diner, Class of 1999, A Gnome Named Gnorm, and the most expensive movie ever (at the time) True Lies. The film had three albums accompany it: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Score, Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, and Mortal Kombat: More Kombat. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack went platinum in just 10 days. You all know that Jake goes crazy researching these movies, and this episode was no exception. Not only do we discuss the actors in the film but also the original actors for the game and some of their other acting works (some of which may surprise you). Christopher Lambert, author and star of Highlander, plays Raiden/ Rayden. Robin Sou is Liu Kang and we are seriously perplexed by the fact this guy was not the ultra famous action star we hoped he would be in our pre-teen years. Linden Ashby is Johnny Cage, who does a fair job of distinguishing the character from his source material: Jean-Claude Van Damme. Bridgette Wilson played Sonya Blade, but did you know who almost played her before she broke her wrist? Well... you should prolly listen to the episode then, huh? This week our focus has shifted from the Japanese and Chinese films laying the groundwork for the Martial Arts genre, as we land in the realm of a classic of ‘Western' cinema: ENTER THE DRAGON. These reflections on Bruce Lee's role in the film, from those involved in its making, are interesting. For more on the use of ADR in films, as mentioned by Rob this week, see here. Jesse Bradley was a self-defined atheist from a family full of non-believers and mixed faiths, as a kid. He dreamed of being a professional basketball player, but it never happened. He did, however, become a pro soccer player. He also almost died, when soccer took him to Zimbabwe, where he was tutoring students as well. What he never imagined as a kid is that he'd end up a pastor, leading others with his strong faith. We talk gratitude, encouragement, faith and overcoming the hard knocks of life and growing as a result of them. SHOW NOTES: “Sometimes the greatest blessings and experiences in life are things that you didn’t plan or never seen coming,” (02:42). They’re seasons in your life when you just feel like you’re doing the right thing, you’re in the right spot, it’s so fulfilling, and that’s where I feel like I am right now, (03:53). “I think honest, humble conversations are so positive, I think in our country right now, being able to disagree and still love each other that’s something we need to enter into because whether it’s political or spiritual it’s important that we understand each other, value each other can go deep and still respect our differences,” (12:33). And that’s how it is in life with “NO”s, a door closes someone sees something in you a talent, or an ability comes alongside enters the picture and in your radar, (20:16). When that alignment from heaven, other people, and doing what you’re made to do, your heart can feel the healing and that’s when your healthy and persevering, (29:49). Being sincere is not enough, it has to be true and real, (37:46). The truth hurts but that’s when growth happens, the revealing happens before the healing and without the revealing there’s no healing, (39:10). For anybody going through a career shift or transition, start by looking for things that seem interesting to you, (40:33). Sometimes in our lives we’re going to have to make some sacrifices, however you could find the greatest joy and be at peace, (47:44). The word “NO” actually means it’s time to look for the best opportunity and time to get on your knees and start praying, (53:50). Rocky is a movie that stands out to me the most because of his perseverance and if I could tell the younger version of myself something it would be to not take myself too seriously, and have reassurance in God’s love, (57:03). Cast/Crew/Notes Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson Produced by Lawrence Kasanoff Based on Mortal Kombat by Midway Games Starring Christopher Lambert as Raiden, god of thunder and protector of Earthrealm who guides the warriors on their journey. He desires to aid the heroes in defending Earthrealm, but as he himself is not mortal, he is not permitted to participate in the tournament and may only advise them and act to prevent cheating. Robin Shou as Liu Kang, a former Shaolin monk, who enters the tournament to avenge his brother's death. He is also Kitana's love interest and among the first who notice her sympathy towards Earthrealm. As in most of the games in the Mortal Kombat series, Liu Kang is the main protagonist. This was Shou's second American film, as his last American role was in 1990, for the made-for-television film Forbidden Nights. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung, a powerful, sadistic and treacherous demon sorcerer, he is the film's main antagonist who killed Liu Kang's brother Chan. Tagawa was the filmmakers' first and only choice for the role; he was instantly selected after he came to his audition in costume, and read his lines while standing on a chair. Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, a Hollywood superstar that enters the tournament to prove to the world that his skills are for real. He is also Sonya's love interest. Ashby trained in karate and tae kwon do especially for this film. Despite the intensity of the fight scenes coupled with the actors performing most of their own stunts, on-set injuries were surprisingly minimal; the only notable occurrence was a mildly bruised kidney Ashby suffered while shooting Cage's fight scene with Scorpion. Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, an American Special Forces officer from Austin, Texas who's in hot pursuit of Kano, the criminal who killed her partner. She is also Johnny's love interest. Cameron Diaz was originally set to play Sonya, but she broke her wrist during a martial arts training session prior to shooting and was replaced by Wilson, who was jokingly nicknamed "RoboBabe" during production by director Paul W. S. Anderson. Wilson performed all her own stunts, including fight scenes. Release Date: August 18, 1995 Budget: 18 Million Box Office: 122.1 Million
Ever wonder who was told he was going to be the lead of A Time To Kill before he found out they were "giving it to a kid named McConaughey"? ## Ever wonder if Actors meet their spouses, and Breaking Bad's Walter White, on the sets of Soap Operas? ## Ever wonder if an Actor can say, "That's it. I'm out. I'm moving the family to Atlanta" only to be rediscovered there for the role that would resurrect his career and bring him a whole new legion of young fans? ## From the Soaps to Mortal Kombat to Wyatt Earp to Melrose Place and Teen Wolf, Linden Ashby has always kept his head on his shoulders (except when he didn't... and got fired. Or showed up at his loud neighbor's house with a shovel). If you think your work-life is tumultuous, you will realize that you are not alone. You will realize that you can not only survive, but THRIVE (AND raise two beautiful, overachieving daughters from ONE marriage) if you've got the stamina and grit of Linden Ashby.
Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast hosts Karen and Natalie discuss this week’s back-to-back-airing Teen Wolf episodes “Face to Faceless” and “Pressure Test.” Featured Song: “Monster” by MILCK – Two episodes last week! – No episodes the following week! – “Face to Faceless” was the episode Linden Ashby directed, and it’s one of Natalie’s favorite episodes of all time. – The big opening battle – can you automatically fight, with werewolf powers? Or do you have to learn combat skills? – Once again, we theorize on who may die by the end of the show. Soz, Chris Argent. – Karen on prejudice: “Sometimes he’s hairier than other times, and we don’t like this.” – Best Liam episode ever? – We’re surprised at Melissa, horrified at the other teachers, in love with Coach and “Ms. Martin.” – We learn Tamora’s backstory – is it what we expected? – Her question to Scott – how many had to die so he could keep his secret? – Nolan’s horrible, but that invisibility exposure moment was brilliantly done. – What’s going on with the fear demon – an illusion, a projection, multiple creatures? – What more could Scott have done to convince them? – How did Teen Wolf end up being so accidentally politically relevant this season? – And with “Pressure Test,” Theo’s back… and as confusing as ever. – Natalie doesn’t hate Deaton quite as much this episode. – The judgement of supernatural wrongdoing needs a better solution. Even Twilight had the Volturi. – Scott finally gets the message – from a trusted ally – that in war, he may have to kill people. – We have a few theories about how the Anuk-Ite will manifest. – That second suicide absolutely could have been avoided. – However, it does lead to Scott playing a little dirty. – We wish we hadn’t caught a certain someone’s name in the opening credits! – So what… do they all just stay holding hands with Cory now?
