Send us a textOn this episode of the Stories to Create Podcast, Cornell Bunting sat down with Miami's own Vaugh Young, author of Uncuffed, to discuss his remarkable journey to freedom—both within and beyond prison walls. Joining the conversation was Bernard Faithful, a longtime friend of Vaugh Young, who saw an opportunity to connect the two authors, Cornell and Vaugh, recognizing parallels in their powerful stories. The conversation began in Miami, where Vaugh grew up and grappled with the absence of active parents in his life. He opened up about channeling his anger into fights at a young age, which eventually led to his incarceration. Vaugh reflected on the invaluable advice he received from the first police officer who arrested him and shared the hard lessons learned during his time behind bars. The discussion seamlessly shifted between stories from prison, life on the streets, and his experiences working for law enforcement. Vaugh also revealed his aspiration to rise above his circumstances and become the leader he always envisioned. He recounted how the confines of prison became the unlikely setting for his personal transformation, serving as a backdrop for discovering liberation and purpose. Ultimately, Vaugh shared how he shed the chains of societal expectations and self-doubt to live an uncuffed life. This heartfelt conversation painted a vivid picture of Vaugh Young's journey to redemption and self-empowerment. A mutiny against the leader of the nation with the largest nuclear arsenal in the world OR ... something else? News of a revolt against the Russian government led by a private Russian military company ricocheted around the globe sewing confusion and apprehension *until* the threat seemed to fade almost as quickly as it ignited. For many people going to work means driving to the office and logging into their computer, but for News 6 Maintenance Supervisor Ben Vaughn the day starts 1,300 feet up in the air. Vaughn has worked as an engineer at News 6 in Orlando since 2018. When he first accepted the gig, he said he didn't know it would involve going hundreds of feet up into the air to make repairs to a TV news tower. Vaughn spoke with Florida's Fourth Estate hosts Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden about how he came to News 6. “I was in video post-production in New York for 20 years. When I took this job, I was like, ‘Oh, I can work on machines and computers,'” he said. Not long after he was hired, he said there was an issue at the tower. He said he was nervous the first time he had to make a repair so high above the ground. “I actually never stood up the entire time I was up there. I was on my hands and knees. Absolutely terrified,” Vaughn said. Over time, despite the swaying, clanking and vibrating, Vaugh said he has gotten a lot more comfortable working on a 1,300-foot-high platform, but he knows he has to be careful. When he does go up, he said he always has a partner with him. “If one person gets incapacitated, you can't call Orange County Fire Rescue, they can't get you. So, one guy has to be able to get the other person off the tower, get them into the elevator,” he said. But, when you think of an elevator, it's not one of those fancy ones you see in a hotel. It looks more like a small metal cage and when two men are riding in it together for 26 minutes up and 26 minutes down, things can get tight. Vaughn said he often rides “belly to belly” and that “Larry and I have spent a lot of close time together.” Most recently the duo went up the tower to fix an antenna that allows viewers at home to see the signal from the Sky 6 helicopter live. Vaughn said he and the engineering department go up twice a year just to repair, replace or inspect those antennas. When they go up Vaughn said, it's important to make sure you don't go up too high. “You'd die... you're talking about an enormous amount of RF energy. I mean, we oftentimes, around the base of the tower, you'll see dead birds and whatnot. I mean, it's like being in a microwave,” he said. “If you were to go any higher than, say 1,500 feet, then you would have to wear an RF alarm, similar to a radiation alarm.” As with everything else in Florida, Vaughn said weather also plays a factor in when engineers can go up the tower to make repairs. “In Florida, you're off that tower by one o'clock. If it's done or not, you're off,” he said. The reason? The high risk of lightning strikes. When you are trying to get down, if for some reason, the elevator doesn't work, Vaugh said, that's where your safety harness comes into play. “There's a ladder” and you would have to lock and unlock your harness the whole way down. “You better have nice boots on. Otherwise, the insides of your feet are going to be destroyed,” he said. Despite the inherent risk involved, Vaughn said he and the whole engineering team at News 6 is committed to doing whatever it takes, “We all have a common goal, and that goal is to make sure that the station stays on the air,” Vaughn said. Bonus Episode! Season Three, Patreon Episode #1 In 1983, Rebecca and Vaughn Arceneaux of Kaplan, Louisiana, finally decided to separate after several years of remaining in a not-so-great marriage. Rebecca was given custody of their son, Beau, who was somewhere between 15 and 17 months old. The judge established a steady visitation schedule in which Beau was with Vaughn every other weekend. But, on November 22, 1983, father, Vaugh, failed to return Beau at the pre-arranged time. On September 15th, 1995, 12-year-old Beau, who lived in Austin, Texas, was chatting on the internet with a friend from Delaware. Colleen Lorenson made a joke that she could be his mother, since she was twice his age. But, Beau confessed that he wished he had a mother, since he hadn't spoken to his own mother in 12 years. His father said Beau's mother left him because she didn't love him. Colleen Lorenson, from Delaware, just didn't buy it. Neither did Kandy Slack, Beau's neighbor whose computer he was borrowing, or Joni Whiting, from Minnesota. The three women were determined to find out the truth about Vaughn. With limited opportunities to watch the Sox during Spring Training, fans need to resort to alternative methods. Why so many 5 inning games? Short clips, brief videos and distance photos leave fans wanting more. Despite the dismal record, there's a lot to be excited about in AZ. A healthy Moncada, backup catcher battles and Vaugh's progress are just a few of the developments we are following. Also, Sox fans like to drink and they are better at it than any other baseball fan base. No surprise there. Less than a month away until Opening Day... Go Sox. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/good-guys-talk-back/message

In this week's episode I sit down with an amazing individual whom I have known for many years. Jessica Vaughn has held her ACSM Personal Training Certification since 2016. She has been a personal trainer as well as corporate wellness director, and group fitness instructor since 2015, and has been prepping herself and clients for bodybuilding shows, pageants, and other competitions since 2016. Jessica shares in her background of wanting to be a football player and vet and becoming an athletic trainer that evolved into strength and conditioning and then into corporate wellness and body building. Jessica is passionate about fitness and develops personal and creative plans for her clients. No fitness and nutrition plans are alike with her clients but they all have one common goal they are working towards. Jessica states Every[BODY] is different, every mind is different, and fully believes in getting to know her clients on a personal level so that she can create the best plans and programs for them to reach nothing but success! Jessica definitely is passionate about what she does and the results show for themselves. When Jessica isn't training and prepping for a show she can be found exploring the outdoors, driving her jeep, shooting guns and even enjoying the occasional slice of pizza. If you would like to know more about training, fitness, nutrition or even body building check out her website One 10 training or on IG @the_savagejess
