Work life balance. Some people will tell you there is no such thing. That's kind of sad if they think that. Don't believe them. There absolutely is work life balance. It is, however, up to you to make it happen. Let's talk about what balance means to Virtual Assistants. Or more specifically, moms who are VAs. It's no secret that not all VAs struggle with balance. If you are young, or single, or married but have no kids, or retired, you may not worry much about balance. Moms almost always ask me for help finding balance. I think balance means being able to do what you want when you want. We don't need equal amounts of work and home, we need to be able to adjust when the balance is thrown off. How can we do that? Boundaries. Many years ago when I ran a women's network, I noticed that many of the women had been told once too often 'no, you can't do that, you're just a woman', and they had come to believe it. I realised that the encouragement and mentorship I'd received from my Dad, my bosses and mentors over the years, was rare. So in my opening talk for my network, I shared the lessons and inspiration I'd had the fortune of being given, which made a big difference in my life and career. And they loved it.
