Tahira Endean | Head of Program | IMEX)Bio:Currently head of programming for IMEX, Tahira is an event designer and curator of education for the MICE industry. She is passionate about global travel, intentional event design, and the integration of technology into our lives and events to enhance the human experience. Deeply committed to the industry, Tahira has been recognized for a range of contributions, including 2022 Influencers with Northstar Meetings and many more.Opening Quote:"Intentional event design is all about being people-centric and purpose-driven, knowing exactly who your audience is, and designing around their needs. So you need to know why you're doing something, and you need to know who you're doing it for. And then you need to bring those things together and then design in a way that is going to help you achieve whatever your objectives are, that success doesn't happen by accident.”Summary:In this episode of No More Bad Events, Scott chats with Tahira Endean about the evolving events industry and the significance of attending IMEX, a major industry gathering. While IMEX is discussed in detail, Tahira also addresses why events fail. And in light of the No More Bad Events mission, this is particularly interesting. She shares stories of what failed events have looked like and how event collectives are studying the reasons why and then, based on their learnings, are developing methodologies to mitigate epic fails … methodologies like empathy mapping and prototyping design. To further ensure nothing but the best events— events that inspire, motivate, and educate like IMEX— Scott and Tahira discuss the complexities of organizing inclusive and sustainable events, the need for upskilling and reskilling post-Covid, the integration of AI as well as incorporating innovative trends and activations based on attendee feedback … things like Intentional Design, Event Profs Unplugged, Wonder Walks and Tough Talks... The latter two activations uncovered the use of nature in trade show booths via a walking tour format, as well as access to private chat rooms for talks about issues like social anxiety and men and mental health. Finally, Tahira whets our appetites for what's coming up at IMEX America in October. Join me as I speak with my friend of over 15 years, Dr. Jaime Rabin, as we dive into the transformative world of intentional design and creating a supportive home through Feng Shui in Jaime's second appearance on the podcast. Our first podcast together, “Leadership, an Act of Service with Jaime Rabin”, is not only a beautiful podcast, but I highly recommend listening to it to witness the profound growth that we've both experienced. However, today we had a beautiful conversation about how Jaime has incorporated beautiful practices to help others intentionally cultivate their homes to be supportive. Having delved into the realms of Chinese medicine and earned her title as a Doctor of Acupuncture, Jaime studied my course Feng Shui Master Certification through the International Feng Shui School over five years ago, describing it as the "missing piece" in her holistic healing journey. In this episode, she unveils the profound grounding impact Feng Shui has had on her life, particularly in giving her perspective on how to blend her other holistic practices. Season 03 Episode 07: WARNING: Fatalities are discussed in this episode."I didn't really read the article, I just looked at the pictures," admits Trajce. Alan and Sara burst into fits of laughter while Sara admits that she reads the comics before the news. Sara recounts a tale of tennis players who recall the play-by-play points of their matches, even those played 20 years ago. She asks, "How do you temper the passion that is required of a world class winner when behaviours can be deemed to be aggressive by regulators?" The team link this discussion to the idea of thrill-seeking risk behaviour in exploration expeditions like the June 2023 Titanic Submersible. This unfortunate expedition led to a catastrophic high-pressure underwater implosion and the deaths of all five explorers. Alan asks, "What were the fail-safe provisions that were made?" Sara explains a research topic on off-the-road tyre handling and the visual storytelling that was developed to prompt design improvements. Alan, Trajce, and Sara explore their new lexicon of the A-E-I-O-U of design and work health and safety. "Visual storytelling through a lens of design makes occupational health and safety vibrant and, dare I say it, even sexy?" Trajce provokes.
Architecture matters.Last weekend, while visiting Detroit-area college friends, Mom & Dad were able to attend mass where Steven serves as a deacon and got to hear him preach. One of our friends is an adult student at Sacred Heart Seminary and so we took the opportunity to take a tour of the school. The design of Sacred Heart seminary reinforces its mission. Contained in a single building with several wings, the center of the structure is the chapel. Surrounded by courtyards, the whole building speaks to its mission. The hallways themselves are filled with history. Spanning over 100 years, individual class pictures adorn the corridor walls. Along with giving witness to history, these photos show other young seminarians, filled with the same energy as the current building occupants.Sacred Heart also embraces the whole, integrated character. Though the chapel is at the center, in the corners are an auditorium for entertainment and arts and a gymnasium for physical activity.Sacred Heart also opens the doors to its local community. A highlight is the upcoming Trick-or-Treat event when children from the community stop by for candy.

Join me today for a short episode on the power of paradigm. We're just two weeks into 2023 but I'm still treating it like the turning of a new year, and this one calls us to take another introspective look at our own personal paradigms regarding our homesteads, businesses, landscapes and lives and really ask ourselves if the foundation of our perception and decision making - our paradigm - is aligned with our highest quality of life? Our paradigm needs to be if we want to stand a chance of living free, healthy and sovereign lives in 2023 and beyond. Does your paradigm see problems as burdens or opportunities? Does your paradigm see Nature as an opponent or an ally? Is order imposed or emergent? The amount of outside energy that must be applied to keep a system functioning a certain way (a landscape, a home, a family unit, a business…etc) is a helpful approximation of imposed vs. emergent order Is your paradigm problem or solution oriented? In every problem lie the seeds of an elegant solution - IF we can see it! Do you invite thinking or shield yourself from it? Intentional Design that addresses Root Causes vs. Symptom-focused Quick Fixes We must be willing to embrace complexity if we hope to design our own lives - off-the-shelf solutions DO NOT WORK for creating a free and sovereign lifestyle. Intentional & wellness focused design matter. The impact of our intimate spaces are shaped by our design decisions. Being aware of the emotions our spaces elicit—emotions we absorb , both day and night is very crucial to find a mindful balanced way of living . This will result in optimizing the quality of our lives. On this episode you will discover how the spaces you live in reflect you,as well as the feelings they provoke …so you will be able to carry these feelings with you all day and night. We want to create an environment of beauty, comfort, joy, energy, and also of positivity. When it's time to deal with difficult emotions, this environment should be a space that nurtures and supports us. It is easy to become so familiar with our surroundings to the point where we don't even notice its beauty anymore. But when we do take the time to live in the moment— contemplating color, form, the flow of light, or the play of shadow—such thinking can bring us stillness and peace. It can flood our bodies with joy and energy. Uta Brandes nahm Dozenturen und Gastprofessuren an Hochschulen in Deutschland (UdK), Hong Kong (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), VR China (Art and Design Academy Hangzhou), Taiwan (Shieh Chien University), Australien (Western Sydney University), USA (Parsons School of Design) und Ägypten (German University Cairo) wahr. Publiziert wurden u.a. Beiträge von John Cage, Valie Export, Lawrence Weiner, George Brecht, Ernst Jandl, Friederike Mayröcker, Haus Rucker Co, Cesar Pelli, Alessandro Mendini... Zusätzlich wurden kleine Bücher veröffentlicht. Es war das Ziel der Beiden, 10 Ausgaben der zweitschift herauszugeben, was ihnen auch gelang. Danach wurde die Verlagstätigkeit beendet.

Debbie Eastburn is the director of Humble Design Cleveland, and her motto is "togetherness to end homelessness." She and her team of designers and volunteers create spaces that families, veterans, and kids aging out of foster care can call home. And they do this primarily with second-hand items that people in our community have donated. Keeping it out of the landfill has never felt so good, knowing your items are creating warm and inviting homes for people emerging from homelessness. Debbie calls this "intentional design" one reason Humble Design is highly successful. Another is the support of Progressive Insurance and the involvement of its employees who volunteer at the Humble Design warehouse in Solon. In this episode, hear how Humble Design Cleveland grew out of the pandemic and became an integral part of the continuum of care for people needing a fresh start and how you can help. Kaaren Hanson, Chief Design Officer at Chase Bank, joins Peter and Jesse to discuss her approach to being a design executive, including what components need to be in place for success, how she coaches her teams, what she's learned to do (and not do), and how she navigates idealism and pragmatism.
A change of pace today. We're speaking to Natalie Walton - interior stylist, designer and author - who writes and shares about slow, intentional living. A former journalist and deputy editor of Real Living, Natalie is interested in understanding how our environments shape our lives. Natalie creates genuine and atmospheric interiors, underwritten with a theme that infuses all of her work - connecting with what's important to you. One of Natalie's newest books, Still - The Slow Home, came about from the sheer overwhelm Natalie experienced when exploring all the options of how to live and create a sustainable life and home. In this episode, Natalie explains what makes a slow home, unpacking the guiding principles that she developed in alignment with the slow food movement - sustainable, local, organic and whole. Natalie takes us through the most important things to consider when you're designing and decorating a home - your intention for the space, your values and priortising what's important to you. She also reassures us that when you're looking to do things in a more sustainable way, it's not about doing things perfectly, just trying to make better choices. We discuss what it is about those spaces that energise us, and the ways you can approach and design your home in order to make it a space that you enjoy coming home to. This was such a beautiful exploration of what makes up a slow, considered, thoughtful and meaningful home. Whether you're designing a space for others to enjoy, or your own forever home, you'll find this an inspiring guide to designing and living with intention. As we dive into the tabernacle blueprints, we see what it looks like for God's people to live in His presence. Exodus 25 showed that living in God's presence requires a sacrifice of life, and how He promises us His righteousness, presence, & life in return. Today, we'll see how God designed the tabernacle as a place for Him to dwell among us in His righteousness. You could say that God made the tabernacle with an Intentional Design, Purpose, & Righteousness. // Closing Prayer: Valley of Vision, "The Cry of a Convicted Sinner"

What does that really mean, intentional design? Isn’t all design, ‘intentional’? I really thought so prior to speaking with Ashley, but, as I always do through these conversations, I learned something. Intentional has many different meanings to different people. The intent of crafting space with a purposeful goal of blending old and new while crafting a unique space specifically with the individual for whom the space is crafted is an art form that requires a great deal of focus and applied craft. This is Ashley Moore.Thank you, Ashley, I appreciate you. Thank you for listening, I appreciate you as well. Episode 20!! I’m very pleased to sit down with Vik Hawksley (@vik_hawksley), who runs Anatomy in Motion in Sydney. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Vik several times, training and learning from him. Anatomy in Motion isn’t just a gym or a studio, when you go to a class it runs like a well oiled system and feels like real physical education. In this chat I ask Vik about the considerations he puts into the design of his classes. He goes in depth into how he delivers movement education to the general public, and the biggest challenges we face delivering movement to a normal person. Even though Vik himself is a beast, he has an acute sense of adapting to the individual, using what works for them, rather than what may work for him. Vik also runs AIM Academy (@aim__academy) which is a free online support group for teachers and practitioners. I’ve been a part of it for over a year and it’s been a great way to connect with other like minded individuals. If you are interested I recommend sending him a message. You can get in touch with him via Instagram at @vik_hawksley or at www.anatomyinmotion.com.au

He then teamed up with Clay Chapman to learn how to be a builder in Oklahoma and has never left. This is someone that we will certainly want to keep on our radar to see the great work that he will continue to inspire with his design-build firm Building Culture.

It's been a long and much-needed break but the Kelly Trach Show is back, baby! To kick things back into gear, I've brought back interior designer-turned-life coach Kristy Vail for her third appearance on this show (see also episodes 80 and 82). Kristy is one of my longest-running clients and a true testament to what you are capable of if you completely dedicate yourself to a goal and throw yourself at it.In my third interview with Kristy, we discuss what she's gotten out of my coaching, why you should financially invest in mentorship, and the tarot card reading that turned everything around for her.About Kristy:Kristy is a Life Strategy Coach. She works with sensitive, introverted & creative women to live lighter, leverage their strengths and show up bigger in the world. Kristy is also the host of the podcast Connected with Kristy Vail which has been featured multiple times on the iTunes New & Noteworthy list in three sections - Spirituality, Business + Health. The show focuses on conscious conversations around entrepreneurship, creativity and personal development.Growing up a highly sensitive and introverted child, she struggled with feeling misunderstood, unaccepted and not seen. Ten years ago, Kristy discovered the world of personal development & spirituality and her perspective on life completely changed. Learning from some of the world's most renowned teachers and experiencing her own personal transformation lit a fire in her to help other women create their own.Kristy empowers her clients to utilize their unique personality types to elevate their connection with others, their career and most importantly their relationship with themselves. She goes deep with her clients and helps them address old patterns that hold them back, say no to things that don't serve them and confidently go to that next level they're looking to achieve. The most common feedback she hears from her clients is “I've never felt more seen for who I truly am in my entire life.” Kristy is beyond honoured and privileged to help like-minded women find more alignment in their life and be their most authentic selves. In this episode, you'll learn:- Kristy sits through some Rapid Fire questions and reveals what she finds most fulfilling about being a generator.- What Kristy thinks is the most effective way to find expanders for yourself.- The reason you'll get more out of coaching you pay for rather than what you can find for free.- Kristy explains how her career has shifted since she last chatted with me on this show, as well as what prompted this change.- How these big changes in Kristy's life have made her occasional lows easier to cope with.- What Kristy considers to be her biggest achievement in this new line of work.- The most important lessons Kristy has taken away from her work with me.Resources Mentioned:Kristy Vail on Intentional Design, Making the Leap & What It's Like Working with MeKT Q&A with Kristy Vail: Manifesting, Boundaries & Dealing with People Who Don't Understand YouHeidi StevensChris GuillebeauYour Conscious EmpireYour Best LifeYour Money MindsetHow to Master Your Mindset: my free 6-day video courseHow to Start Your Online Empire: my free 6-day video courseThe Money Masterclass: my free 6-day video courseFlow with Intention by Jess LivelyThe Desire Map by Danielle LaPorteLeave a podcast rating and review to be entered into the giveawayLacy PhillipsYou are a Badass at Making Money by Jen SinceroYou are a Badass by Jen SinceroFind Kristy Kristy Vail StudioConnected with Kristy VailFind Kelly:Instagram: @kellytrachkellytrach.comMusic for The Kelly Trach Show is by Ikson: soundcloud.com/iksonSupport for today's show comes from:Podigy. This episode of the Smart Community Podcast is brought to you by Arup, an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. In this episode, I had a brilliant conversation with Andrew Pettifer, the NSW Region Leader of Arup, and Steve Coster, the Managing Director at international design practice, HASSELL. We have a fascinating discussion about the impact of technology, design and leadership on the way we work, and how this fits in the Smart Community arena.Arup has just opened three new buildings for their workforce in Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore, and we talk about the guiding principals for these buildings, and why it is so important to have this forward thinking approach rather than just leasing an existing office building. I have visited both the Sydney and Melbourne sites and I must say, the intentional design really does make a difference.Andrew and Steve explain the process of planning, designing and implementing such a Smart and sustainable building. As well as talking about the different ways design, space and technology are used, we also discuss the power of workplace culture, the importance of giving people flexible work choices, and the need for leadership to create high-trust environments for staff. We finish our conversation discussing the emerging trends in the ways we work and how work will change into the future. If you would like to sponsor an episode of the Smart Community Podcast, please send me an email to zoe@mysmart.community and we can discuss the options. As always, I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed making it.Find the full show notes as: www.mysmart.communityConnect with me via email: hello@mysmart.communityConnect via LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook @smartcommpod
