Our first two Common Conversations about Christian Nationalism and Black Burdens lead us now to sit with the trauma created from this history. It is personal and has given us PTSD which we must confront. Our fragile mental health is struggling all the more with a pandemic, political polarization of our communities, images of abuse on black and brown bodies, and a general sense of hopelessness.Listen to Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Director, College Mental Health Program, McLean Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard University,as she talks with Rev. Sabrina N. Gilchrist (class of '10), NCC, LCMHC, Executive Director of Right Moves For Youth, and Dr. Mark Jensen, Teaching Professor of Pastoral Care and Pastoral Theology at Wake Divinity and Chaplain Supervisor in the Division of FaithHealth at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.Moderated by Rev. Clare C. Johnson ('11) mental health therapist in private practice, Spartanburg, SC, Mary Beth Beck-Henderson ('21) family educator, Imprints Cares.Note that the audio version is missing a few components from the video or transcript versions; however, all the conversation is included.Common Conversations are conversations on common topics between experts in our community and members of the Wake Divinity faculty and staff moderated by Wake Divinity alumnus, students, and supporters. CC is sponsored by the Baptist Commons. For our first Common Conversations series in the fall of 2020, we focus on three topics under the theme of “the weight of racism.”As architects of equity, hope, and healing, we feel there is no more important place to begin than to talk about racism in America. The weight of this injustice is on us all.  As our beloved Deacon  Maya Angelou said, “It is impossible to struggle for civil rights, equal rights for blacks, without including whites. Because equal rights, fair play, justice, are all like the air: we all have it, or none of us has it.”In our series, we'll tackleThe Load of Christian Nationalism and Baptist History for our first episode released in October;Black Baptist Burdens | White Baptist Pressures for the second episode released in November; andThe Gravity of Trauma of These Enmeshed Communities for the third episode released in December.Don't worry; you don't need to be a Baptist to engage. We hope, however, you'll do more than watch. We hope you are inspired to start your own conversation after listening to ours. And that you, too, will continue the call for justice, compassion, and reconciliation.

Our guest today is Rob Roy, Chief Investment Officer at AdventHealth, the largest hospital headquartered in the state of Florida.   In this episode, we take a look at the investment side that powers the largest healthcare system headquartered in Florida. Due to the size of Advent Health, Rob is able to present a unique view of the impact of COVID on both portfolios and the healthcare system, along with possible long-term impacts of COVID on the U.S., supply chains, and potential inflation. He also discusses the impact of religious principles on their investment process.   Our local co-host today is Javier Perez, COO of Commenda Capital and previously the President of the CFA Society of Orlando.  Follow the CFA Society of Orlando on Twitter at @CFAOrlandoFL

I'm thankful to sit down and have some encouraging girl talk with Natalie Grant! Natalie is an eight-time GRAMMY® nominee and has remained one of Christian music’s top-selling artists since her 2005 breakout RIAA Gold-certified album, Awaken.  Known for powerful vocals, heart-gripping lyrics and passionate performances, Grant has since gone on to amass more than 500 million streams and has garnered several #1 singles at radio. We talk a little about faith during the hard times, life as a mom and giving advice to our kids, her new music, and gratitude. She's always such joy. I hope you get as much encouragement as I did.  Natalie sang her new song "My Weapon" live on her Facebook page. She wrote this about the single and what life is like right now for her…. “So today, it all started to hit for me. Heavy sadness for all those who’ve lost loved ones. Fear for my family members who are working in medical facilities where they’ve run out of masks and supplies. Uncertain as I’m suddenly unemployed. Though it’s a big hit, I’m so thankful that we will be ok. But I can’t say the same for so many crew members, musicians, truck/bus drivers, production companies, not to mention young artist who needed these tours to survive. I’m anxious about my kids and school, 2 students from the girls school just tested positive for COVID-19 today. With Gracie’s asthma and weak lungs, I want this nasty virus to stay far away. Today it was all overwhelming. And so I worshipped. Because His presence is our greatest weapon. And my worship opens up the heavens and is the pathway to his presence. The struggle is real, as are the facts. But our God is real and he is ALIVE - and worship reminds us that we are fighting from victory, not for victory. I hope this helps you remember that.” Check out my blog conversationswithsara.com for my post on Gratitude and research to that shows just how important is is for our well-being.

In Episode 057 of A Medicinal Mind: Wisdom and Wellbeing, I have a deeply nourishing conversation with one of the most authentic healers I know, nutritionist and women's health expert Laura Schoenfeld.   Laura has fascinating background, bringing a rigorous formal education in public health and dietetics into the world of integrative and ancestral wellness. Working alongside Chris Kresser to help mobilize the ancestral health movement through dogma and initial growing pains, Laura has been finding her own way beyond Paleo, incorporating her Christian faith and desire to help women find freedom and wellness outside of just food.   In this conversation, we begin by hearing about Laura's early childhood and her spiritual roots as well as her beginnings in the health space, expanding her interest in psychology from her undergraduate education into her pursuit of an education in public health and nutrition.   From there, Laura leads us deeper into the flowering of her faith, the origin of intentional and deep friendships that allowed her to accelerate her spiritual and personal growth.   Laura opens up about the process of bringing her faith and Christ into her work, sharing how she works professionally with individuals seeking to grow spiritually, all the while remaining authentic to her values every step of the way. Acknowledging her own spiritual challenges, Laura describes how she has found a personal and professional clarity coming from a foundation of faith. Expanding upon a personal Biblical verse, Laura shares how she has been able to value her own needs as well as others', and keep integrity to her clinical and personal approach.   And with that, let's dig into the show!   You can access more information and notes for this episode on our podcast page: https://www.amedicinalmind.com/podcast-wisdom-and-well-being/episode-057-laura-schoenfeld-mph-rd-finding-your-way-one-womans-deep-desire-to-pursue-wellness-helping-women-find-freedom-faith-health-and-joy   You can see all of our content including blogs, poetry, meditations, and our weekly newsletter at our webpage: A Medicinal Mind   You can also follow A Medicinal Mind on Facebook and Instagram   If you enjoyed the show, please subscribe with Apple Podcasts and leave us a review.
