The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies invites you to enjoy Aerospace Nation with the Royal Air Force's Air Marshal Johnny Stringer, Deputy Commander, NATO Allied Air Command. As NATO celebrates its 75th anniversary, the organization's mission is more important than ever. Russia's invasion of Ukraine, paired with a broader slate of global threats, demand a collaborative approach to safeguard our security interests with member nations. Airpower is a key means through which NATO members can both deter adversaries in times of peace and project decisive power in times of conflict. Member states routinely train for combined operations, with missions like the USAF's bomber task force exercises and allied participation at Red Flag standing as key examples. The notion of allied NATO airpower is rapidly evolving thanks to a generational wave of modernization with member air forces, much of which is focused on 5th Generation technologies like the F-35 and RPA systems such as the MQ-9. Listen to our conversation with a key leader of NATO's Allied Air Command to gain fresh insights about the command's top issues as it adapts to a rapidly changing security environment.

Marshal of the Royal Air Force Arthur Tedder was General Eisenhower's Deputy as Supreme Commander for Operation Overlord during the Second World War. A quiet and thoughtful leader, Tedder understood the difference between war and warfare and carefully orchestrated his campaigns – including the transportation plan concerning D-Day – in an alliance context to great effect. Tedder's strategic leadership can be characterised as understated and thoughtful, underpinned by his ability to manage relationships with allies and experts to get the most from each. He also understood the importance of waging war economically in a way that exploited logistics capacity as a critical enabler for his own forces and as a means of weakening his enemies. Despite the Allied victory, after the Second World War he recognised the weaknesses that loomed. This week's guest, Air Marshal Edward Stringer, was the air component commander for NATO's operation in Libya in 2011, the Director of Operations in the UK Ministry of Defence and the UK liaison officer to the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. In his last role, he was Director General Joint Force Development. Since retirement, he has become an expert commentator and writer on defence, defence strategy and air power.

Do you want to unlock your greatest potential in business and achieve incredible results? In this special podcast episode, Jaryd Krause has invited Itamar Marani, who will share his expertise in emotional intelligence. Itamar's unique journey defied conventional education. He skipped university, immersing himself in real-world learning. At 18, he joined an elite Israeli Special Forces unit, engaging in a decade-long tenure in international counter-terrorism. In 2008, he became the youngest graduate of Israel's Air Marshal program. With a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, he excelled globally and led diverse teams, overseeing substantial assets as a billionaire's security chief for three years before departing due to ethical concerns. A close encounter with Al Qaeda while undercover spurred mentorship from Mossad's head psychologist.  Now, through "The Arena," Itamar nurtures emotional fortitude and an effective mindset among entrepreneurs. Over 100 such individuals have benefited from his guidance, rooted in his multifaceted background encompassing special forces, counter-terrorism, psychological mentorship, and athletic achievement. His goal remains—equipping entrepreneurs with practical resilience and a mindset devoid of empty motivation. Today, here are the interesting topics that they have talked about: What holds people back from achieving incredible results? Why can some people come in guns blazing and get results while others are slower? And how do you uncover what is not true for you that's holding you back, and how do you give yourself the space to re-shape your beliefs? They also discussed how and why men may find it challenging to feel emotions and learn the cues they need to listen to in order to make incredibly impactful decisions. How was emotional intelligence for myself and Itamar one of the best things for our growth? Lastly, Itamar shares a really cool story of his that pushed him to work on his emotional intelligence. Key Takeaways   ➥ Continuing to do what has always worked may yield decent results, but it may not be the most efficient or effective way to achieve a goal. ➥ Fears can manifest as beliefs that hinder progress. Identifying these beliefs is crucial to understanding the source of resistance and reluctance to take necessary actions. ➥ It's essential to examine and question the beliefs that may hold entrepreneurs back from exploring new opportunities and approaches in their post-exit ventures. ➥ People may feel pressured to follow certain actions or paths based on societal expectations. It's essential to evaluate whether these actions align with personal goals and values.   About The Guest Itamar Marani didn't go to university because he was getting an intense real world education. At age 18, he was drafted into the most elite unit in the Israeli Special Forces and spent over 10 years in federal and private international counter-terrorism units. In 2008, he graduated from the Israeli Shin Bet's prestigious Air Marshal program as the youngest person in the country's history. He's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under a 9x time World Champion and was ranked in the top 10 in the world at the amateur level. He led multinational teams of Navy Seals and other Special Forces veterans and managed assets in the 9-figure range as the chief of security for a billionaire, but he quit after 3 years because of the lack of integrity in the work environment. While working undercover abroad, he had a very close call with Al Qaeda that led to him working with and being mentored by the Israeli Mossad's head psychologist. If ever there was a man with a relentless heart of service to people, coupled with character and integrity, it's Sidney Blair. In this episode you will hear: • My first paying job was as the [Piggly Wiggly] Pig in the 4th of July Parade in Huntsville, Texas. (12:53) • Troopers have great uniforms. They're like a recruiting poster. (14:38) • In Texas, a Peace Officer, is a Peace Officer, is a Peace Officer - whether you're a Game Warden, a State Trooper, or City Cop or County Cop. (21:42) • Your job is to protect and serve. You go out to the good citizens of your county, or city, or state, or your federal jurisdiction, and you protect from any evils that exist, including themselves. (25:52) • Al lot of police officers will become calorically challenged. (26:58) • Fear is forced. Respect is earned. (29:32) • The government is paying my salary. My job is to get out there and change your tire. (33:27) • I still have some fight left in me. I still want to serve my community. I still want to help the people that need help. (37:34) • I spent 19 of my 20 years at the Air Marshals. (44:06) • I had a retirement party from the Air Marshals that I didn't know about. (57:18) • You should serve something larger than yourself if you have the ability to do it. (64:11) • If you have never stood before a man with a badge in handcuffs, and he held your freedom and life in his hands, and he gave you a break, and you knew what a break you got – you ain't qualified to be a cop. (66:49) • You see someone get out of hand - I don't care if they're in uniform; you pull them off. You physically remove them from the scene. You save them from themselves. (68:10) • People feed off of bad news. (76:25) • The worst thing in the world that we have is the breakdown of the nucleus of the family that people don't have upbringing where they learn to respect other people. (80:05) • Soft times build soft people. (81:37) • When you defund the police, I can tell you the very first place it comes from – training. (88:45)

Are they just sabre rattling or are the risks high due to Russia's strategy risks? 3. Is the use of battlefield nuclear weapons by Russia a real possibility? 4. Britain's nuclear strategy – does the fact that we purely rely on Trident for our nuclear deterrent limit our room for manoeuvre? 5. What does the war mean for last year's Integrated Review? Do its conclusions need revisiting? 6. Is a No Fly Zone over Ukraine militarily feasible and would it make a real difference to the war?

MICHAEL And joining Phil via Zoom this week, it's me - Michael Ohajuru - revealing that our top story is going to be about the crisis engulfing London's tube and bus system. The coronavirus pandemic has hit Transport for London very hard financially, with talk in the media of bankruptcy. Can the organisation really hit the buffers? PHIL For story number two, we enter the extraordinary world of so-called ‘jobfishing'. A BBC investigation found that a large number of people were working online for months in the height of the pandemic. The trouble was that the company that notionally employed them was invented. MICHAEL And what about Wordle? Are you playing the daily quiz, now owned by the New York Times? We ask exactly how it's become such a phenomenon and whether or not it's really getting harder! That's story number three this week. PHIL What's our fourth story? Well, it's the bizarre tale of an Air Marshal who has been instructed by police to write an apology to his neighbours for what the media are describing as an unwanted fly-by. We'll explain more! MICHAEL And finally this week, to wrap up the show, Phil and I are still trying to get our heads around an extraordinary tale from America. Two sets of identical twins married each other and both have had baby boys at the same time. These cousins are genetically brothers. And everybody lives together in the same house! In this episode Joe & Brian had the privilege of connecting with and having a conversation with Travis Hocart. Note: Due to some technical difficulties this episode has the most editing we've ever done - We apologise in advance for that. Travis comes from a background of tactical policing and counter terrorism work, commencing with his role in the WA Police Tactical Response Group in 2000. After moving into the world of Close Personal Protection in post-war Baghdad in 2004, Travis then spent 8 years in the highly secretive Air Marshal program, leading small team operations throughout Australia and overseas destinations. Following 15 years in law enforcement, the lure of the private sector led him moving into the world of workplace health and safety, where was able to deploy his risk management tactics to various industries such as commercial construction, agriculture, mining, and remote field exploration. Sitting alongside his professional development, has always been Travis' keen interest in military history. A chance invitation to walk the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea in 2009, kick started the next stage of his life's journey. An opportunity to become a trek guide eventually morphed into Travis forming his own trekking business, Kokoda Crossing, in 2018. After a promising start to the business, Covid related travel restrictions have significantly impacted operations, such that Travis has been required to fall back on skills learnt from his past … resilience, adaptability, perseverance and a “back yourself” attitude. Travis opens up on a number of topics mentioned above plus so much more. Tune in so that you can leverage Travis' extensive experience and apply aspects to your own situation in positive ways. As the UK enters the third decade of the 21st century, it is confronted by a strategic system in flux. This is particularly highlighted by the resurgence of great power rivalry, the renewed Russian threat to regional and international security, the shifting global balance of power from the Euro-Atlantic to the Indo-Pacific, the rise of China as a global power, regional instability in the Middle East, and wider geopolitical shifts. This is compounded by the Trump Administration's approach to foreign policy, particularly it's attitude towards arms control and reported interest in resuming nuclear testing, and the potential impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is likely that defence budgets will come under intense pressure due to the economic impact of the pandemic, however, given the deteriorating geopolitical environment, significant defence cuts may only serve to embolden potential adversaries seeking to change local or, indeed, the international status quo. Moreover, the UK itself is at a critical strategic juncture with the opportunities inherent in its withdrawal from the European Union. Ahead of the forthcoming Integrated Security, Defence and Foreign Policy Review, discussion of the UK's strategic priorities and balance of capabilities is warranted. In this regard, this article considers whether the UK should invest in a more substantial long-range strike capability, namely some form of bomber. The evolving strategic environment and its implications The development of a long-range bomber capability would constitute a significant investment and a marked shift in the composition of British airpower. The UK retired its last dedicated long-range bomber, the Vulcan, in 1984, but has retained an interest in a long-range strike capability since. This has included the use of the Tornado for long-range strike operations including with the Storm Shadow stand-off cruise missile, as part of the abortive Future Offensive Air System programme to replace the Tornado, and the potential integration of the Storm Shadow with the cancelled Nimrod MRA4. Andrew Brookes, writing in RUSI's World Defence Systems in August 2003 stated with regard to the latter: 'With its range of over 6,000nm, the datalink equipped Nimrod MRA4 positioned at six facilities could provide almost global strike coverage when armed with five Storm Shadows and supported by in-flight refuelling'. Whilst in June 2020, Air Marshal (ret'd) Greg Bagwell, writing in Air Forces Monthly, stated: So, do I think the UK or countries like it should invest in their own 21st-century bombers? Well, I can certainly see value in having the ability to launch larger numbers of smart weapons from larger platforms, but I do not see the need for an expensive, niche platform able to penetrate sophisticated enemy defences. Air Marsal (Retd) Greg Bagwell In considering whether the UK should invest in a long-range bomber, three particular factors warrant discussion: the evolving strategic system and its implications; recent operational experience and the prospective operating environment; and the direction of British national policy in the coming decades. The strategic environment is characterised by uncertainty, including a core principle underpinning British strategic thinking since the end of the Second World War: the reliability of the US as the 'guarantor' of international security. The actions of the Trump administration, for example, with regard to military threats against Iran, including the June 2019 crisis following Iran's downing of a Global Hawk unmanned air vehicle (UAV), and the January 2020 crisis following the US assassination of General Soleimani, strategic arms control (highlighted by the US approach toward renewing the New START treaty with Russia), and wider questions concerning President Trump's approach to foreign policy, raise questions over the reliability of the US in the event of a crisis. Moreover, the rise of China, and with it, the re-emergence of a bipolar internat...

I really wanted to have Itamar on the podcast because I think COVID has really shown that as leaders and entrepreneurs a lot of us weren't ready to handle something like this. Many of us started out businesses during a time of growth and opportunity and it's the first time that we are facing something like this so it's never been more important to know how to deal with a crisis and high-pressure situations. So that's exactly what Itamar and I discussed on this podcast. We also got to talk about how to create a strong contingency plan for yourself and your business so if things go wrong you know exactly what to do. On top of all that Itamar and I got to talk about his background and how he ended up becoming an entrepreneur after serving in the Special Forces and as a security guard for a Russian Oligarch which in my opinion is a fascinating background, it's not every day that you meet someone who has protected a Russian Oligarch. You guys this was a really cool conversation and I am so happy to have had Itamar on the podcast, I really believe that what Itamar and I discussed on this podcast is not something that is talked about often but really should be because even though it's rare that things can go really wrong when they do it's important to know how to reach. This week's guest on The David Johnson Show is Navy SEAL veteran, Craig Sawyer, aka ‘Sawman', who has transitioned from his Navy SEAL and counter-terrorism military career into working in television, the Internet, humanitarian non-profit work and mentoring young veterans on their post-military lives.  In the episode, Craig shares his story of how he started initially with the Marines, but moved into the Navy SEALs in his early 20s. Craig served in the Gulf War (1990-1991), gaining combat experience in Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an Operator at SEAL Team One.  He was later promoted to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or 'SEAL Team 6', a Counter-Terrorism unit administered by US Naval Special Warfare Command.  In the early 2000s Craig transitioned to a new role with the U.S. Air Marshal program and spent most of the ‘00s in Air Marshal service.  His military operations skills helped him get chosen to lead a military commando team in Africa to halt rhino poachers. This started his work in TV production, movies, acting, voiceover work and more in the past decade on networks like Animal Planet, the Military Channel and The History Channel.  In recent years, Craig's humanitarian efforts have manifested in his work to combat child sex trafficking through his non-profit Vets4ChildRescue - https://vets4childrescue.org. “Craig's background is so amazing, it should really give hope to other military vets looking to make a mark after military service ends,” said David Johnson, host of “The David Johnson Show”. “Craig said to me recently, "I'm in my 50's and I'm just now finding the real passion in my life." That in and of itself is a powerful story. To be in the 50's, with everything he's done, to see him writing a new chapter is very inspiring. Air Marshal (Retd) Sir Graham Stacey KBE CB is a former Royal Air Force Regiment Officer. He was the Chief of Staff of NATO Allied Command Transformation until July 2018. Prior to that, in a series of major international appointments, he was the deputy commander of NATO Joint Force Command Brunssum, the commander of British Forces Cyprus and the UK Senior Advisor to US Central Command. Previously he was Director Joint Warfare at the UK Permanent Joint Force Headquarters (PJHQ) and for a number of years, as a secondary role, was the lead mentor and director of the RAF’s Senior Leadership Development Programme. He commanded at every level and saw operational service in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, the Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. He continues to be active in the fields of leadership and organisational development, innovation, the application of emerging and disruptive technologies, C2 and decision making in multinational environments and international analysis, strategy and policy in a variety of consultant, director and NED positions. As an RAF Regiment Officer, he served on operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. For him his first defining moment was as his very steep learning curve a young 21 year old Officer leading 38 tough RAF Soldiers. He was always prepared to volunteer for doing the different and unusual jobs; such as an exchange officer in Indonesia & NI Research Agency. His break came with being selected to join the personal staff of Carl Bildt in Bosnia - the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and a crucial special envoy and mediator. Carl was an unusual, unassuming, quiet and bright Inspiring Leader. In Graham’s experience leaders come in every size, shape, gender and background. It is crucial to “Be YOU”. In Kabul Graham was inspired by a colleague who worked for him called Paula – she was a young female RAF Officer running the busiest airfield in the world. Also, Graham worked for and became a close friend of Air Marshal Sir Stu Peach who became Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Stu is now Chairman of The NATO Military Committee. Graham chose General Joe Dunford US Marines who inspires by his skills: quiet, listens, considers your views, treats everyone as special, politically astute and yet decisive. Joe had a special blend of Soldier, Diplomat, Philosopher and States-person. He was adept at handling difficult relationships and matrix organisations. When discussing Graham’s own mistake and learning he reflected on his time as 2 * Commander of Cyprus. His view is you learn every day and try to improve. In the Cyprus case “One of my Unit Commanders had been accusations of bullying, harassment and inappropriate treatment of his subordinates”. As he was months from the end of 39 years’ service I was encouraged, against my better judgement to allow him a dignified departure. I was in a dilemma – do I not dismiss him, but rather move him for his last few months? Ironically, he in turn was ungrateful and made slanderous accusations against me and my staff. I learnt – “Trust your instincts”.#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #RAF #Boards See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Entering the Fifth Dimension: A Twilight Zone Podcast

A podcast about a TV show about a podcast?  A TV episode inspired by a TV episode? We're full meta this week as we discuss, “Nightmare at 30,000 feet.” Robert and Darrell try to decide if this was just a nightmare by the main character, an alternate universe where space travel to Mars is commonplace but people still listen to podcasts, or did Justin lose it and he really is fully to blame for the plane crash. Much love is given to Dan Carlin, who narrates the episode’s podcast recording. We loved all the supporting actors, the music, the lighting and maybe loved all that too much because we couldn’t guess who the Air Marshal was. Luckily for us our Talking Tina segment’s listener feedback covered us. We discuss PTSD and we salute Jordan Peele’s new show and the well placed diversity we’re seeing in both new episodes. If our podcast starts predicting the events happening around you in real time, I suggest you start asking some obvious questions like, “Am I in the Twilight Zone?,” or at least, “Hey will someone else listen to this weird recording? He wanted to know what it was like, what it felt like for people who conned and benefited financially from doing something that seemed so easy, repercussions notwithstanding. Getting arrested was the turning point, when the long-term "high" of wanting to do and doing good finally registered and became his purpose. Our past actions don't have to become us As if by some stroke of genius, fate laid the greatest irony in Matt's life by making his arresting officer the same person who would eventually help him land his first job as a law enforcer. This cop made him identify the good in him, and guided him to open up to it. By being under his tutelage, Matt was able to fully grasp the truth that his deeds back in high school will never become him. Matt will have to swallow a lot more truth pills through the course of his life. But all these will be part of who he is at present, a man dedicated to service, to doing good, and inspiring others to become the legends they're meant to be. Matt Cubbler http://www.mattcubbler.com

No, he's not the guy that drags unruly passengers out of first class and no his job is not a real life version of snakes on a plane. However, Pierre has thwarted possible terror attacks while 30,000 feet in the air. We broke out the Jameson with Pierre and Jay (from ep. 9 & 11) and talked about the crazy life of an air marshal.    Check out our Patreon page! www.patreon.com/professionconfessionpodcast   IG/Twitter: @ProConPod Facebook/YouTube: Profession Confession Podcast

In this episode I interview an Air Marshal who just retired and happens to be a good friend: Montie Guthrie. Montie has several decades of law enforcement experience working in several agencies, including the Border Patrol. He was kind enough to take some time to talk to me and give his perspective on the job, violence, self-defense, firearms and much more. Just so you know, we were... helped... yeah, "helped" by an undisclosed amount of whiskey during the recording of this interview. We both felt great afterwards and I sincerely hope you enjoy our interview as well.  http://www.wimsblog.com/2018/02/podcast-episode-13-interview-with-montie-guthrie/ Show notes: 1. Border Patrol 2. Hello and welcome to Holiday a Week, your weekly preview of the Holidays, festivals, celebrations and remembrances from around the world.   I am your host Jeffrey Johnson   This podcast is for the week starting on Monday July  14 2014 and ending on Sunday July 20 2014 July 14th 2014 brings us   Bastille Day as it is referred to in English or La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) it also commonly referred to as Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). This Celebration is for the day the Bastille was stormed and started the French Revolution in 1789.  It also commemorates the Fête de la Fédération which happened in 1790, a celebration of French unity where othas to the new constitution were sworn by high level French individuals.   The largest and longest running military parade in Europe is held on July 14th with the parade having around 7,000 soldiers (5,000 on foot, the rest, crew members or cavalrymen), 300 vehicles, 240 horses and more than 80 planes and helicopters.  The first time the parade was held was during Fête de la Fédération (in 1790) after which the French people celebrated for 4 days with feasts, dancing and parties.   Fireworks are also launched in the evening in celebration of the day. There are many events around Paris and the rest of the country, to many to be listed here.   Happy Independence Day France!   On July 15th 2014 we celebrate   The birthday of Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah. The current ruler of Brunei, a nation on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. He became Sultan in 1967 when his father abdicated the throne. He has since gone on to become the Prime Minister, Head of the Defense Forces, Head of the Finance Ministry as well as many other titles. During this time people show off their candle carving abilities, there is even a candle sent by the Royal Family to this festival. The highlight of the event is on Khao Phansa the first day of the Buddhist Lent season.  This is the three months when the monks will not stray far from their temple, having to return each night. This is also the time when it is most auspicious to become a monk. Khao Phansa happens on the day after the full moon on the 8th lunar month.   Happy Candle Festival!   On July 17th 2014 we celebrate   Constitution Day in South Korea. This is the date when the Korean Constitution was proclaimed in 1948 which was also chosen to coincide to the founding of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392. The day is no longer considered an official day off of work but still a holiday. People will celebrate in their own way, some running marathons. This was also the date when Korea was separated into two countries and many in Korea feel very strongly that they should be one so it not celebrated a great amount though there are ceremonies conducted by the leaders of the country.   Happy Constitution Day South Korea and I hope one day you will be joined in peace with North Korea.   On July 18th 2014 we celebrate   Mandela Day, an international day to celebrate and continue the work of Nelson Mandela. Mandela was born on July 18th 1918, he fought for the equal rights for people of color in South Africa. The first United Nations Mandela Day was in 2010 but other countries had recognized it in 2009. This is a day to embrace the ideals of Nelson Mandela. Service is the most important thing on this day. According to the Mandela Day website he lived by three rules, Free yourself, free others and serve every day. Mandela gave 67 years service they ask that we give at least 67 minutes this day and to try and make every day a day of service. You can learn more about the day and what you can do to participate at  MandelaDay.com (I put a link in the description of the podcast) Happy Mandela Day!
