In this episode of "Sleepless in Singapore," I take you on a journey to South Africa with my adventurous friend Hatim. Our escapade begins in Cape Town, where we accidentally dine and dash on our first night, only to return and pay, much to the relief of the waitstaff. The next day, we explore the stunning Cape Point, marvel at the powerful ocean, and visit an ostrich farm (sadly without Marty), where we feed the birds and take countless photos. Our adventure continues with a visit to the South African Penguins, an evening at a sushi bar, and a trip to the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. The following days are a whirlwind of experiences: from an insightful slum tour to the breathtaking Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where we admire unique African flora. We indulge in ice cream at Tapi Tapi, enjoy a dramatic drive through the mountains to a secluded Airbnb, and savor a traditional braai under a starlit sky. Our journey wraps up with a visit to Stellenbosch's wineries, a Segway tour, and a final night of local food and dance in Cape Town.

>>> Watch our free Revenue Management training at https://www.getpaidforyourpad.com/cfm-replay>>> FREE E-Book: 5 Most Common Airbnb Revenue Management Mistakes>>> Click here to downloadIn this episode of "Get Paid for Your Pad," I, Jasper Ribbers, engage in an insightful conversation with Madison Rivkin, founder of Mount. We delve into the concept of Mount, a platform revolutionizing the guest experience in short-term rentals. Focusing on how travelers book experiences, Mount connects local businesses offering diverse activities like brewery tours or rafting trips, making them easily discoverable online.Madison explains that Mount allows hosts and property managers to curate and offer a personalized list of experiences through their platform, enhancing guest satisfaction. For instance, a host in New York City could recommend an underground foodie tour in Chinatown or a donut tour in West Village. Each host creates a mini marketplace with a unique URL, which they can share with guests through various means, including QR codes in properties. This not only elevates the guest experience but also enables hosts to earn a commission.I discuss with Madison the distinctiveness of Mount compared to other platforms like Airbnb Experiences and Viator. Mount's unique selling point is its emphasis on personalization, making it appear as if the recommendations are directly from the host, unlike the more generalized offerings on Airbnb and Viator. Madison also highlights how Mount caters to off-the-beaten-path, local experiences, avoiding the 'tourist trap' feel of mainstream platforms. We explore the flexibility of Mount, discussing how hosts with unique local knowledge or resources, like hidden hikes or boats, can create their own experiences. Madison shares that Mount integrates with various property management systems (PMS) and guidebooks, simplifying the process for hosts to incorporate these experiences into their offerings.Delving into Mount's future goals, Madison mentions their ambition to embed experiences directly into digital guidebooks and to expand their eco-friendly mission, aiming to reduce tourist waste and promote sustainable tourism practices. Mount encourages the use of local resources and experiences, aligning with the trend of experiential travel, particularly popular among younger generations seeking unique, Instagram-worthy activities.Madison's journey, from founding Mount as a bike lock company at age 12 to its evolution into a travel experience facilitator, is both fascinating and inspiring. She emphasizes the importance of adapting to market needs and leveraging personal experiences to enhance their platform. For those interested in using Mount, the sign-up process is straightforward. Hosts can register on rentmount.com, create their mini marketplace, and start offering personalized local experiences to their guests. This integration of unique local experiences not only enhances guest stays but also helps hosts distinguish their offerings in a crowded market. Before we wrap up today's episode, remember to connect with us on Instagram @getpaidforyourpad for exclusive content and behind-the-scenes moments, and don't forget to hit that 'Subscribe' button on our YouTube channel. Todd's journey into the world of real estate began with Airbnb. With experience in leasing properties and understanding the trends, he soon realized that the Airbnb market was oversaturated, and profits were dwindling. Even with a traditional rental model, Todd struggled to see significant returns, dealing with the hassles of maintenance and unreliable tenants. While working full-time at a successful tech company, Todd felt the urge to break free from the 9-5 grind. Like many, his goal was to quit his day job and gain more freedom in life. Despite his demanding job, he still found time to sell solar door-to-door. This experience taught him valuable lessons in handling rejection, dealing with people, and bouncing back from business setbacks. Todd's background in solar sales would become the cornerstone of his success in the Group Home business. His ability to communicate effectively with landlords and convey the benefits of his offers, including above-market rent, played a crucial role in securing properties. What's most important to Todd is that this business isn't just about cash flow; it's about making a positive impact on people's lives, including his own and his family's. When Todd invested in the GOLD COURSE, he knew success was inevitable. "There's no way you'll fail in this business," he confidently stated after purchasing the course. If 10 years ago somebody had told Tia Clark she'd be a professional crabber, she'd have told that person to jump back into their spaceship. Today, Tia leads people of all ages on crabbing expeditions through her booming Charleston business, Casual Crabbing With Tia, which is recognized as one of AirBnb's TOP Experiences in the world! On Season 4, Episode 5 of The Conch podcast, she shares what it means to “casually” crab, why growing up in a big Gullah Geechee family shaped her connection to the water, and how she deals with imposter syndrome in moments when she can't quite believe she's teaching people the art of crabbing. Episode Transcript: Episode Guide: :00 Intro 01:08 Tia Clark went to the pier to throw a crab net to regain her health, a simple act that changed her entire soul and life's trajectory. 02:49 Through Casual Crabbing, Tia shares her experience of building a relationship with the water. Here's how it looks. 05:55 Casual Crabbing is also Tia's love letter to her hometown of Charleston, as people buy licenses to crab, which are reinvested to put life back into the water. 08:12 How do we cultivate organic stewards of an important resource when they don't have access to that resource? 12:56 It's never too late to change your life's path. How Tia went from 20 years in the food and beverage sector to an experience that figuratively “cracked her head open.” 15:29 Casual Crabbing with Tia started as an AirBnb Experience and is recognized as one of AirBnb's best in the world. 24:10 While a huge challenge, COVID spurred the next evolution of the Casual Crabbing experience. 28:17 Tia grew up in a big Gullah Geechee family, which meant eating a lot of seafood, especially blue crabs. However, somewhere along the line, she lost her love of cooking food for her culture and heritage. The act of crabbing brought it all back. 30:58 Why did Tia never go crabbing when she was a child? 33:02 Tia's experience as a woman on the water and why only men get pinched by the crabs. 37:53 Three tips to fight your inner imposter. 41:04 Career advice: work for joy, not money, and (echoing past podcast guest Stephanie Harris-Uyidi!) do it scared. 46:06 Tia gives an inspirational shoutout to a mentor and friend. Resources: Learn more about how to join Tia on a Casual Crabbing experience. Visit Charleston Water Keepers and the South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement (SCORE) Program to learn more about how, along with Tia, these organizations educate, empower, and engage the communities around Charleston, creating organic stewards who care about their watersheds. Recommend this episode to one person who is curious about how fishing and crabbing can not only bring food to your table, but health and happiness to your life.

F-Stop Collaborate and Listen - A Landscape Photography Podcast
One of the most frequent question I see other photographers asking is "how much should I charge for my services or prints?" Pricing your photography can be tricky, no matter what genre of photography you are engaged with. As such, it was awesome to have a conversation with this week's guest on Episode 305 of the F-Stop Collaborate and Listen podcast. This week I had a blast speaking with Walid Azami. Walid is a photographer and commercial director living in Los Angeles and originally from Kabul, Afghanistan. He photographs celebrities, commercial products, and a lot more while offering his services as a coach and mentor to other photographers relating to business practices and pricing. On this week's episode, we discuss: Similarities between landscape photography and other genres as it relates to pricing and monetization. The biggest mistakes photographers make in relation to pricing their photography. Determining when monetization is worth pursuing. Strategies for pricing your artwork and services. Dealing with customers that low-ball you. How to differentiate yourself as a photographer in the crowded marketplace we find ourselves in. Advice for how to start thinking monetization of your work. And a lot more! Other topics/links discussed on the podcast this week: Support the podcast on Patreon. AirBnB Experiences. Walid's Course. Walid's website for photographers. Walid on YouTube. Here is who Walid recommended on the podcast this week: Sean Tucker. I love hearing from the podcast listeners! Reach out to me via Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter if you'd like to be on the podcast or if you have an idea of a topic we can talk about. We also have an Instagram page, a Facebook Page, and a Facebook Group - so don't be shy! We also have a searchable transcript of every episode!
