It's our yearly tradition here at Queen Venerator as we're counting down our Top 100 Albums of 2022. To say that this was a good year in music would be a massive understatement. This was one of the best years in music in recent memory. A lot of great albums didn't make the cut, which is kind of insane considering there are 100 albums listed here. And what a 100 they are. Dance bangers from across Africa, ambient bedroom projects, a ton of hip-hop, wild free jazz, midi-infused pipe organs, fiery hardcore punk, modular synths for days, ear-shattering electronics, the smoothest desert blues, a guy rummaging around in a box for an hour, and so much more. Enjoy! For over a decade, singer/songwriter/Southerner Kim Ware has been crafting indie-folk songs full of heart and twang with her project Kim Ware and the Good Graces. On her latest album Ready, she's digging deeper inside then ever before. The result is an album overflowing with brutal honesty, (often hilarious) youthful angst, and an emotional core that could melt even the most hardened of hearts. Join us as we sit down with Ware to discuss the new album, making music in isolation, working with producer Jerry Kee (Superchunk, Polvo, Tift Merritt), and much, much more. PLUS! Music we love from Chicago's Bitchin Bajas, some tasty guitar work from Jon Camp, and a whole lot more!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/discologist. Hosted on Acast. There's a heavy antipodean influence on this week's Independent Music Podcast, with a whole heap of wonderfully varied sounds with their roots in Oceania. From the stunning experimental folk of Maxine Funke, to the beautiful pop of Carla Dal Forno, through to ‘horrible metal from YANWYTYA, there's a broad spectrum of noise. Elsewhere, Sarathy Korwar's new record gets us off to a strong start, whilst the intercontinental drones and poetry of Karen & Peter transports us to the dusky landscapes of West Yorkshire and upstate New York. For the patrons we also have underground experimental hip-hop, crazy obtuse pop from Japan's Hitomi Moriwaki, and more. To listen to the full episode, please join our Patreon: patreon.com/independentmusicpodcast. Tracklisting Sarathy Korwar – Utopia is a Colonial Project (The Leaf Label, UK) Maxine Funke – South Dunedin (Disciples, UK) Bitchin Bajas – Amorpha (Drag City, USA) YANWYTYA – Never Real, Always True (Instruments of Discipline, Germany) Carla Dal Forno – Come Around (Kallista Records, Uk) Karen & Peter – Do You Remember the Factory That Burned? (Cruel Nature Records, UK) Daniel McClennan – Lifted by Marionette Strings (For Kleist) (Cruel Nature Records, UK) Dhajea & Ashy Eddy – Ughhuh (self-release, USA) Hitomi Moriwaki – Numbers (Guruguru Brain, Netherlands) C.L.A.W.S. & I.O.I.F. – Tainted Slugs (Brokntoys, UK) Produced and edited by Nick McCorriston. There's something poetic about the fact Built To Spill and The Afghan Whigs dropped an album on the same day. The bands may have been diametrically opposed in the '90s, but because they peaked around the same time and have now become a staple for Gen X indie heads, the two groups oftentimes get put in the same category. On this week's Indiecast episode, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen put both bands' legacy into perspective while discussing Built To Spill's When The Wind Forgets Your Name (18:39) and The Afghan Whigs' How Do You Burn? (36:57)The biggest music news of this week came from Harry Styles and the absolute chaos that is his new film, Don't Worry Darling (:55). The film's premiere saw cringey interview quotes, Florence Pugh being a wild card, and a (debunked) rumor that Styles spit on his co-star Chris Pine. Plus, a fan mailbag question had Steven and Ian finally addressing which one of them is guilty of having a squeaky chair (7:26).In this week's Recommendation Corner (52:39), Ian endorsed Phoenix band Holy Fawn, whose new album Dimensional Bleed is out today. Meanwhile, Steven shouted out Bitchin Bajas' new album Bajascillators, which sounds like Philip Glass meets the Grateful Dead. New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 105 here or below and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can submit questions for Steve and Ian at indiecastmailbag@gmail.com, and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news. It's back. Welcome to the first installment of Aquarium Drunkard's re-tooled podcast. Picking up where the Sidecar (Transmissions) left off, this new show will be an audio companion to the blog proper, a late night broadcast exploring pop culture through an esoteric lens, featuring music, literature, film, and other dispatches from parts unknown. Beginning now, expect a new episode every other week. Our debut features Jason P. Woodbury's interview with longtime AD favorite Will Oldham, AKA Bonnie "Prince" Billy, discussing two new albums: his collaboration with Bitchin' Bajas, the New Age/ambient LP Epic Jammers and Fortunate Ditties and a collection of sessions he recorded with BBC legend John Peel, Pond Scum. Along the way, Oldham pontificates on a certain sci-fantasy blockbuster and discusses his contributions to the upcoming Day of the Dead collection -- the mammoth Grateful Dead covers project spanning 59 tracks at nearly six hours.
