I had full intentions to sporadically make this episode over a whole day at Beer, Booze, and Bonks – but forgot how chaotic a day like that could actually be. That's not to say that I didn't try, in fact, half of the episode was recorded live at the festival. The other half, though, I … Volume 8, Episode 27 – Live From Beer, Booze And Bonks – Sort Of… Read More » The post Volume 8, Episode 27 – Live From Beer, Booze And Bonks – Sort Of… appeared first on The Gnarly Gnome.
Pre-pod for our Patreon-only crew: Ben's been kicked from the podcast. How quickly the tides have turned. Steven spits some hot knowledge. Remember how fire the Mortal Kombat song was? Steven's kid noped out of Prehistoric Planet pretty quick. Super scary. This episode contains: We got a storm on the Central Coast, a week after we were burning to death. This episode, Ben accidentally calls Devon "William." Steven won't stop with the joke. Another branch from the same oak tree falls on Steven's house. "I'm not talking unless it's on the podcast & I'm getting paid for it." - Devon Previously on... THE SOLAR SYSTEM: Lots of strange things about Saturn can be explained by a destroyed moon. Saturn's axis wobbles around dramatically. Scientists hypothesize a moon of Saturn scraped the surface and created the rings. How many moons does Saturn have? 83, with two more unconfirmed. Small moons are condensing out of Saturn's rings. On a galactic timescale, Saturn is violently changing right now. Saturn's rings are theorized to only be 100 million years old. Saturn may be in an orbital resonance with Neptune, they get weird together. Jupiter has 80 rings. Devon's noticed that number keeps going up. Saturn is the ringleader of this whole "Solar System" operation. https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/09/lots-of-strange-things-about-saturn-can-be-explained-by-a-destroyed-moon/ https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/07/220721101508.htm Blacked Out: Emergency Text Alert ‘Saves' California From Blackout. Steven thinks 78˚ F is still way too hot. A Flex Alert SMS went out to ask Californians to conserve energy. Ben would like to think that better energy infrastructure is being developed. Things don't change for the better unless we get a little uncomfortable. Stopping reliance on fossil fuels is imperative. Not everyone in CA will get electric cars on the same day, so calm yourself. Nuclear power is green energy. We should not have abandoned it in the 70s. What if solar power got so efficient a house wouldn't be connected to the grid? https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-62832775 https://www.geeksaresexy.net/2022/09/09/emergency-text-alert-saves-energy-supply/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzfpyo-q-RM&ab_channel=Kurzgesagt%E2%80%93InaNutshell Science Fiction: Flamin' Hot Mountain Dew, and the things it leads to, By Dr. Suess. Ben didn't totally hate Flamin' Hot Mountain Dew. Steven thought it's like whiskey without getting drunk! We talk about character generation in Travellers. Ben's character in Travellers is named Bucket "Buck" Hahn. Very well educated. The hosts reminisce about playing Fiasco, an amazing DM-less RPG. Devon's rewatching the original Quantum Leap. Is ye olde Quantum Leap now called "The Original Series?" or "The First Leap?" In TOS, was Hikaru Sulu originally an Astrobotanist or a Physicist? Answer: He was Head of the Physics Dept. They gave Pavel Chekov the Monkees haircut originally for sex appeal. Are the people making Lower Decks super horny? Towels and underwear and sex everywhere. "We got an ancient mask situation over here!" Not a new thing on Star Trek. "Bonks" are where humans used to keep their money. Devon and Steven get way into the ethics of holodecks. Ben brings the popcorn. Devon and Steven use a lot of euphemisms for sex in the episode. Post-show for our Patreon-only crew: The new Quantum Leap looks kinda basic, but we'll give it a chance. Just give us Quantum Leap with a labrador as the main character. It's weird that the weird future in original Quantum Leap was 1995! When Quantum Leapers touch each other, they discover their true selves. New Quantum Leap has a Ghostbuster AND Firefly's engineer? Sign me up. If holodecks existed, we'd just live in there forever.

When do you need a break? Sometimes the signs are subtle or not even existent until suddenly, without warning you have hit the wall. Unable to function to your full capacity, in work, home or sports, you are now in a position of pulling yourself out of a hole rather than avoiding it in the first place. We call it bonking or burnout, two similar ways to say that you didn't pace yourself properly! In life as in sport, by the time you realize you're thirsty (tired, overworked, etc), you're already dehydrated. Today we riff on all things break-related including the below and more: Give yourself permission: Taking breaks is not lazy or unproductive! Take small breaks daily Fitness/workouts/walks count as breaks from work & home Plan larger breaks to truly "get away" even when you know beforehand that coming back might suck Introverts & Extroverts handle breaks differently (future topic alert!) Try to turn your rest into a celebration: do something during rest time that makes you happy Our question to you: How do you know when it's time for a break & what do you do in your downtime? Welcome to episode Shifty Five! We sit down with a nuclear scientist, Lee, as he reveals the secrets of the universe such as the double seam, the existence and superiority of center Twix, how fruit flies can multiply right before our eyes and more! Of course we had to chat beer as well so we decided to pick out beers from breweries we have never tried before. It was a lot harder than we thought which is probably a bad thing. We also had a surprise guest! Morgan Freeman, friend of the show joined us unexpectedly which made for some great conversation. This episode is BUSSIN! Also! If you are in the Cincinnati area and want to win tickets to the upcoming Beer, Booze and Bonks beer festival put on by our friend The Gnarly Gnome and other local peeps we called The Gnome and he gave us a special code word. In order to win 2 tickets make sure you're following us @shiftbeers on Instagram and do the following: Share a beer from a brewery you've never had a beer from on Instagram, tag us, use #shiftbeers and the secret hashtag code Gnome gives us in the show. We will choose a winner on the show next week! Didn't win? Get your tickets over at: https://www.thegnarlygnome.com/tickets

We're back with another scorcher this week on @5on5pod joined by the one and only Bonks (@brandonnogood) as the boys dive down the rabbit hole for a battle between The Whispers and Egyptian Lover. This weeks episode mostly focuses on what it takes to survive in the music industry, different versions of “making it” “breaking it” and hacking it on the road away from home. The boys discuss the impact of pop music, the smoke and mirrors of streaming, and the impact on Lil Dicky's pivot into Dave. If you've ever wanted to work behind the scenes, tour manage, or DJ for an artist, this episode is definitely one to check out.

Welcome everyone to the fifty first episode of the podcast with such critical reviews as, 'It's a G.I. Joe show...I think' and 'I mistakenly thought this was Joe Rogan's pod. Oh well.' Chief and Chris are joined in the studio by top guys Chris Simms and Chad Bowers who immediately regretted coming back! Just kidding. The guys discuss issues 149-151 where Cobra does more invading that no other nation seems to care about, Wolfgang slings jive, Mindbender loses his codpiece and Cobra Commander does his best Iron Man impression. Bullpen Bulletin quizzes are plentiful and beverages are consumed.
The UCI world road championships in Yorkshire wrapped up this weekend with thrilling victories in the men's and women's elite road races. On this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast, Fred and Andy break down all of the action from the road races. First, the guys examine the men's elite road race, which saw Danish hardman Mads Pedersen take a thrilling win. Pre-race favorite Mathieu van der Poel was in contention to win, but then bonked with 13km to go. The guys examine the race, and try to understand what happened to van der Poel. Plus, what happened to Matteo Trentin, who was another favorite to win? Then, the guys discuss Annemiek van Vleuten's 104-kilometer breakaway to win the women's race, and the aggressive racing of American Chloé Dygert Owen. Fred and Andy debate the UCI's controversial decision to disqualify Nils Eekhoff, who initially won the Under-23 men's race only to be disqualified. Then, the guys talk about USA Cycling's success at this year's worlds. The Americans won seven medals, three of them gold, in the races. Finally, we hear from American Quinn Simmons, who won the junior men's road race. Simmons takes us inside of his winning ride, and discusses his decision to step into the WorldTour next year at age 19. This week's episode is brought to us by VeloSwap. Unlucky for some? Not us, as Ep 13 is choc full of awesomeness! The boys continue their epic G.I. Joe reread and issues 37-39 are on the block. Ever punched a man so hard his brother felt the blow? Flint has and you can find out what happens in issue 37. Then travel to picturesque Sierra Gordo as the Joes attempt a rescue of a character last seen in issue 1! Due to Ben being over worked, our awards segment has been bumped to next week but don't worry, we manage to jam in the usual assortment of 'Inside Chief's Mind' and 'Chief asks Ben a Question'. Enjoy!
Jimbob Ghostkeeper (aka Zoë) calls in to fire off some spicy takes and a harrowing tale of fired off hot sauce, and shakes things up by leading us off with Bonks, Beers Burps. Chef Chris provides some counsel on how to go a month without eating out, and introduces us to his stuffed jalapeno corners for THE BIG GAME in Chris' Kitchen. I got a lot of problems with you people and now you're gonna hear about it! As we crack open a homebrew to review, Airing of the Grievances: A Festivus Milkshake NEDIPA from Linen Closet Brewing Company. In a new ad hoc segment, "Where In The World Is Boys Night A Burpcast?" Champs the Drummer joins us on assignment from Seattle to discuss how he didn't choose the grunge lifestyle, the grunge lifestyle chose him. After weeks of build-up, hype, and anticipation, the Hendrices have plenty to report on their journey to the great white north for their annual pond hockey trip. After a nice sandwich/shower sojourn, Brett does a thought-provoking drive by that no one was really ready for, and forces us to ask “what are we doing with our lives?” … Other than playing a lot of Rock Band. Finally we wind down with What Did You Do On The Internet This Week?: Beege hates mean pranks, Chris likes animals doing things, Neal watched hockey, and Bryan laughs at laughter.

Yippee! It’s a Brett episode! The Champs Drummer joins us to make it a full house on the first show of 2019. We kick things off with What [We’re] Sippin’ On, try our hand at re-recording the segment jingle, and audition for Marlon Brando’s understudy in the remake of A Streetcar Named Desire. Because we clearly lack necessary social skills, Chris plays the host as Neal practices talking about "what he's into" when talking to strangers in social settings (spooky!) We’re thrilled to introduce our newest segment: What Did You Do On The Internet This Week? … It turns out, it was a lot of stuff! Brett throws his hat into the ring to host the Oscars, Chris gets an extended National Championship edition of Tiger Talk, and Beej welcomes a special guest: Baby Knees Donegan who talks about Ted Talks and “yogajacks.” Did that joke land? No, it did not. Did we power through? You bet we did. Also, Chris is fixated on the autonomy of the majestic starfish. We get into Bonks, Beers, and Burps and discuss how hard it is to get up in the morning. Brett leads us on a tour of dreamland as we do a deep dive on what we see when we sleep, both pleasant dreams and our nightmares what one early listener has referred to as “the most interesting conversation you’ve had on the show thus far.” Bryan from Kickball has plenty of dreams but many, many more nightmares and really truly does not want to go to jail. Finally, we close things out with a final preview of some of our upcoming travels, and a definitive discussion of when it’s okay to storm a basketball court.
We very nearly missed this episode, which was stowed away in a vault at Burpcast headquarters, but indeed THIS was our first show of 2019. We kick things off with a discussion of how we spent our New Years Eves, including an excursion to Diapertown, USA. Our Three Stars discussion this week covers first date movies: Bryan from Kickball shares the juicy details of his 7th-grade dating game and nearly comes to blows with Dr. Jones as they fight over a shared #1 star. In an abbreviated What You Sippin’ on, you’ll never guess what Brett brought over… While we do a little sweater swap of brews from notable Maryland “B cities.” This week on the internet, we dive into YouTubue’s horrible year in review, while Chris proves he knows more about the interwebs than all of the rest of us combined. Nedbot and Beege Roomba throw it way back to a little ditty about some sweet treats. We have a special guest in the building to join us for Bonks, Beers, and Burps as the power couple known as Crashleigh stops by and earns a producer credit. Bryan has a persnickety sleep regimen, Wayne Brettzky channels his Wayne Gretzky in the top shot challenge, Neal chases Vanessa Hudgens who was riding a piano car down the middle of a city street, and Ashleigh tells us about her favorite hobby: harvesting cat blood.
The post-intermission Bonks, Beers, Burps of our two-part episode features Brother Mark, he regales us with the tale of Parking Spacegate (aka Parkghazi) and the struggles of both incompetent home owners associations and not making enemies of your neighbors. We go into detail on how to correctly get a haircut, and then we rank all the meats and the joys of a good Christmas goose. There’s plenty to look forward to as everyone has travels on the way, the Hendrickses have their pond hockey trip with the Virginia Wolves in Minnesota, and Bryan From Kickball is going through all the movie tropes on the road: a shotgun wedding, meeting the parents, AND an 80s ski slope misadventure. Finally, we have a surprise special musical guest- the next door neighbors who class up the joint with some ambient Mozart played through the shared wall.
The Boys’ are back – namely the Twins have made travel return and bring back a traditional Icelandic tune to share with us – and it’s a real banger. We duke it out over the best breakfast cereals and Chris shares some adventures of his own, namely braving the treacherous conditions of camping out on Black Friday morning in pursuit of the seven stouts to fill the Infinity Gauntlet of… Destiny? (I didn’t see The Avengers so I’m not entirely clear on how this simile works.) Afterwards, we do a brief but deep dive into our respective alma maters football fortunes with the Tech Sec, Tiger Talk, and a yet to be named discussion of Franklin & Marshall athletics. Finally, we round things out with Bonks, Beers, and Burps discussing habitual office coughers, flat tires, and the simple joys of deviating from the norm.
