Evan Handler is beloved by millions for portraying Harry Goldenblatt, divorce-lawyer-turned-husband to Kristin Davis's Charlotte York, on HBO's groundbreaking series, and films, “Sex and the City,” it's current MAX follow-up, “And Just Like That,” as well as Charlie Runkle on Showtime's seven season “Californication.” In addition to authoring two highly acclaimed books, Time on Fire: My Comedy of Terrors, and It's Only Temporary: The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive, Evan has played leading roles in ABC's “It's Like, You Know…,” and NBC's “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” STARZ' “Power,” and made numerous memorable guest appearances on “Lost,” “The West Wing,” “Six Feet Under,” “Necessary Roughness,” and “Friends.” In 2000, Evan played Larry Fine in ABC's TV movie “The Three Stooges,” followed by additional “real life” portrayals of Lloyd Blankfein in HBO's “Too Big to Fail,” Alan Dershowitz in FX's “People vs. OJ Simpson,” and Hal Prince in FX's “Fosse/Verdon,” each of which garnered numerous wide-ranging awards. On the big screen, Evan played a leading role in Ron Howard's “Ransom,” starring Mel Gibson, and featured and leading roles Oliver Stone's “Natural Born Killers,” “Taps,” “The Chosen,” and “Sweet Lorraine.” He's currently visible in David Duchovny's directorial effort, “Reverse the Curse.” Prior to his work in film and television, Evan earned acclaim in seven Broadway productions, all performed between his twenty-first and thirtieth birthdays, and all in spite of losing nearly five years of that span to his fight against a supposedly “incurable” leukemia. During this time Evan starred in Broadway productions of “Six Degrees of Separation,” “I Hate Hamlet,” “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” “Broadway Bound” and “Master Harold...and the boys.” Evan also worked extensively in off-Broadway and regional theater at NY's Public Theater, Manhattan Theater Club, Playwrights Horizons, Seattle Rep, and Steppenwolf, performing early plays by Donald Margulies, Robert Schenkkan, Jez Butterworth, and numerous others. Evan's first book, Time On Fire, details his unlikely recovery from the leukemia diagnosed in the mid-1980s. His second book, It's Only Temporary: The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive, describes the twenty-year period post-illness, and Handler's surprisingly circuitous journey toward gratitude, using tales of serial dating, absurd relationships, unexpected depressions, and, ultimately, lasting love and a miracle conception. My guest this week is Robert W. Schneider who joins me to talk about his new podcast, Broadway Bound — The Musicals That Never Came To Broadway. Each of the ten episodes in the first season of this wonderfully researched new series focuses on a high-profile musical that was on its way to Broadway but for various reasons never made it. Analyzing and identifying those reasons is part of what makes this series so fascinating. Musicals featured in the first season include Arthur, Minsky's, Breakfast At Tiffany's, The Baker's Wife, Juliet Of The Spirits, Busker's Alley, The Graduate, and The Mambo Kings. Rob Schneider is an original programming producer at 54 Below, where he has produced and directed more than 100 events, and Artistic Director of the J2 Spotlight Theater Company. In addition to Broadway Bound, Rob is the host and producer of two other popular theater podcasts: Behind the Curtain: Broadway's Living Legends and Fifty Key Stage Musicals, which was inspired by his book of the same title. Today, on American TV Icons, Alikona Bradford interviews, we feature longtime veteran Linda Lavin. Born in Portland, Maine to a musically-inclined family (her mother was once an opera singer) and on stage from the age of 5, singer/actress Linda Lavin graduated from The College of William and Mary with a theatre degree. She pounded the New York pavements in the early 1960s searching for work following some stock roles in New Jersey, and gradually made a dent within the New York musical comedy scene with roles in "Oh, Kay!" (1960), "A Family Affair," (1962), "It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman" (1966) (her standout number was "You've Got Possibilities") and "On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever" (1966). She also won kudos for her straight acting roles in "Little Murders" (1969 Drama Desk award) and "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" (1969 Tony nomination). A one-time member of Paul Sills' Compass Players comedy troupe back in the late 1950s, she served as a replacement in Sills' "Story Theatre" Broadway production in 1971. Television beckoned in the 1970s and utilized her singing talents in a small-screen version of Damn Yankees! (1967) starring Phil Silvers and Lee Remick. After a one-season false start as Detective Janice Wentworth on the sitcom Barney Miller (1975), it did not take long for the talented lady to become a household name in another. As the titular waitress/mother in the sitcom Alice (1976), based on the award-winning film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) starring Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, Lavin won deserved stardom. During the nine seasons (1976-1985) the show was on the air, she nabbed two Golden Globe awards and an Emmy nomination. Ever the singer, she even warbled "There's a New Girl in Town" over the opening credits of the show to the delight of her fans. Following this success, Linda lavished her attentions once again on the stage. She earned renewed respect, in addition to several critic's awards, for her diversified Broadway work in "Broadway Bound" (1987 Tony award), "Death Defying Acts" (1995 Obie award), "The Diary of Anne Frank" (1998 Tony nomination: as the high-strung Mrs. Van Daan) and "Tales of the Allergist Wife" (2000 Tony nomination). More recently, she appeared in Carol Burnett's autobiographical play "Hollywood Arms" (2002) portraying Burnett's grandmother. The piece was co-written by Burnett's late daughter, Carrie Hamilton. Linda received excellent reviews the first time around for her stage work in "Collected Stories" (2000). She later appeared in a PBS-TV version of Collected Stories (2002) and in 2010 revived it on Broadway, earning a Tony nomination for her efforts. She has also occasionally directed for the stage. Linda was married and divorced twice to actors -- Ron Leibman and Kip Niven -- and in 2005 married her third husband, actor Steve Bakunas, who is also an artist and musician. Since her "Alice" heyday, the actress has again found series work, albeit the short-lived Room for Two (1992) and Conrad Bloom (1998). She has also been seen in penetrating guest parts on such established series as "The Sopranos", "Law & Order" and "The O.C." (recurring). March 15, 2018 46:34 Broadway performer, classical singer, actress, wife and mother the multi-talented Andrea "AJ" Jones Sojola is a creative force of nature - equal parts keen thinker and humorous observer of life. In college, her sights were set on a career in musical theater, but her voice teacher encouraged her to study classical music in order to solidify her technique. Her training took her around the United States, but she ultimately landed in New York, performing in on and off-broadway shows, in films and in other live venues. A.J. speaks candidly about the power of detours to move us directly into the will of God for our lives - even when this means not getting the things we really want. She is convinced that detours land us in better places than we planned for. In August, A.J. concluded her run as a member of the cast of the off-broadway production of Carmen Jones alongside Tony Winner, Anika Noni Rose. Her Carnegie Hall debut was in the cast of Showboat and she appeared in the Tyler Perry film, For Colored Girls as well as in the TV mystery, Blacklist. A.J. talks candidly about the importance of being kind to everyone because the creative world is small and you tend to encounter the same people as your career progresses. She also stresses, "You have set your goals higher than where you are." Performing is a family affair in the Sojola household, both her young daughter and husband are working actors.

His additional credits include Mark Twain Tonight!, The Rothschilds, Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, Sticks and Bones, The Wiz, The Real Thing, Sunday in the Park with George, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Rent, Movin' Out, Stones in His Pockets, and Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of La Bohème. Listen in to hear Manny talk about: The greatest things he learned from David Merrick and Alexander Cohen, and what Merrick would think of Broadway today. How he feels about having so many producers on a project . . . and could we ever go back to just one? How playing baseball with Robert Redford changed his life. His mantra that helps him get over the shows that don’t work. What his Yale class thought when they read Bright Beach Memoirs and how that taught him to evaluate shows. And buckets more. The Producer's Perspective Podcast with Ken Davenport

Peter Lawrence is a production stage manager. He won a Tony Award in 2013 for Excellence in Theatre, as there is no Tony category for stage managers. In 1977, Lawrence got his first stage managing job on Broadway, in Judith Ross’s An Almost Perfect Person. Over his 30-plus years on Broadway, Lawrence has had many different titles, depending on the production. Most of the time he has been billed as production stage manager. Some of the shows he has worked on include Ragtime, Shrek the Musical, Spamalot, Gypsy, Man of La Mancha, Swan Lake, Miss Saigon, Broadway Bound, Hurlyburly, and Those Were the Days. Stage Managers have one of the most unique perspectives in the biz, since they have to work so closely with the creative team and the General Management team, to deliver the best show possible. Hear how Peter deals with that balance and more including . . . How he lied to get his first job. His summary of what a Stage Manager actually does. The great lesson he learned from Mike Nichols. Why he thinks Directors don’t start off as Stage Managers as much as they used to. What he thinks the “best Broadway year” was. Prepare to be schooled by one of the best Stage Managers in the biz.
