JeVon "JT" McCormick was born the mixed-race son of a drug-dealing pimp father and an orphaned, single mother on welfare. He was raised in the slums of Dayton, Ohio, suffered incredible abuse and racism, and had multiple stints in the juvenile justice system. He barely graduated high school and has no college degree. He started scrubbing toilets, hustled, and worked his way into the banking and mortgage industry. He did really well… until the mortgage industry fell apart, and he lost his job — and all of his money. He had to borrow from his friends to make rent. JeVon springboarded to even bigger heights. He made millions in the stock market and eventually became President of two multimillion-dollar companies. Now, JeVon is the President and CEO of Scribe Media. This publishing company helps people write, publish, and market their books. They have worked with over 1,900 authors, including David Goggins, who has sold over two million copies of his book, Can't Hurt Me. JeVon is the author of the book I Got There: How a Mixed-Race Kid Overcame Racism, Poverty, and Abuse to Arrive at the American Dream. He lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Megan, and their four children. In this episode… Think about this for a second: any chance that a boy who is one of 23 children born to a poor pimp and drug-dealing father will escape crime and poverty? Not only did today's guest JeVon McCormick go into juvenile detention more than once, but he barely graduated high school. He had every reason to fail and stay poor, but… JeVon made it out. He started to work his way out of poverty by scrubbing toilets, learning about stocks, and eventually making a lot of money. Unfortunately, he lost it all. But that didn't deter him from starting over and becoming the President and CEO of Scribe Media. How has JeVon braved the odds to get to where he is today, and what lessons can you learn from his journey? Listen to this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast with Dr. Jeremy Weisz featuring Scribe Media's President and CEO, JeVon McCormick. They peel back the layers of JeVon's heart-wrenching childhood story, the force behind JeVon's choice to lead a better life than his upbringing (or lack of it), and how he emerged the President of two multimillion-dollar companies after losing all his money. You don't want to miss a minute of this insightful episode.

I had to flip it on its head” [34:54] “...seeing the other side, not being afraid to attack what was in front of me, has made me happy.” [35:21] “When you can find drive in your own doubt, fear, insecurities, you become very unstoppable.” [41:27] “...in that fucking sack of shit, you have to dive in that to find more. This week we welcome American Idol finalist, first time marathoner and future ultra marathoner Clark Beckham to the show!! I recently met Clark at the finish of the Marine Corps Marathon. Sitting there in my own state of pure exhaustion, I was re-energized by the brief synopsis of Clark's marathon journey- 6 months earlier he was 30 pounds heavier listening to David Goggins' book "Can't Hurt Me" when he pulled his car over and signed up for his very first race. He set a lofty goal of a 3:45 marathon and trained like crazy day after day after day before ultimately getting it done. He also had the added pressure of singing the anthem to 30,000 racers, marines, and spectators before the starting gun went off! Clark's tale is unique and I'm super happy to get the opportunity to sit down and chat with him about it. A solid mindset of perseverance, determination, and the ability to work hard has helped him find success both in running and in his career as a musician (he was a finalist on American Idol and is a fantastic singer!!) Now he's looking to take on his first 50 miler and continuing his journey into endurance and what is possible!! Hope you guys enjoy the episode!! Happy Thanksgiving!! In this episode, we sit down with our friend and owner of Premier Pool Care Kayne Zamorano. At the age of 22, Kayne has built not only a successful service company, but has built a lifestyle brand that is recognized by consumers and industry professionals alike. We met Kayne when he was first starting out and recognized something in him right away that we saw in ourselves. He was hungry for information and always trying to make himself better. It hasn’t always been easy with him being so young, but he has persevered through the challenges and earned the trust of many pool builders in the Phoenix area. We love that he has taken the initiative to educate himself on larger luxury pools and has now set himself and the company up to be successful for many years to come. We are very proud of what he has accomplished and we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did. See you out there Pool Chasers! Today I want to talk to you about my 5 favorite business books of all time. This is something that I get asked all the time and I thought it would be really important to share it with all of you. Let’s dive into it! #1: The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan– This is one of my more recent favorites but my copy is already a little beat up because I bring it everywhere with me! I love this book because it talks about focusing and figuring out what that one thing is that’s going to move everything else in your business forward. https://amzn.to/2KX7ti7 #2: Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller – This book talks about all how you are not the hero of your marketing… your ideal client is! I’ve always followed an archetype for my social media, but Building a Story Brand helps you understand how you can simplify your message so your ideal client knows what you’re talking about. https://amzn.to/2ZlON4j #3: You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero- I even have a signed copy of this one, and I’ve listened to it as an audiobook at least 5 times. Every time that I’ve read it I’ve picked up another nugget of wisdom from her. She's studied the law of attraction, manifestation, and made this a go-to manual for anyone who believes in the power of the law of attraction. https://amzn.to/323IShl #4: Never Lose a Customer by Joey Coleman– This book is amazing in terms of how to keep customers happy. It talks so much about the things that we forget to do. As a society, we spend so much money on client acquisition, but we don’t focus enough on client retention. This is going to teach you how you can keep clients for life! https://amzn.to/328nOX4 #5: Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee– This book changed the game for me in terms of how I wanted to lead and show up in the world. This book started me on my journey to understanding how to build online communities through emotional intelligence. https://amzn.to/2ZiFC4Q These are just my top 5 recommendations and I would highly suggest tuning in to this episode to hear more about what each one can do to improve your business. Grab the bonus book here as well! Can't Hurt Me: https://amzn.to/2ZrBHOh Like what you hear? Apply to work with us! Click here.
About Mervyn Byrd Mervyn has over 15 years in the banking industry, eventually opening his own commercial loan brokerage business. Today, he specializes in sales and leadership development for the Business Alliance. Two things remain constant with every position Mervyn has held—a love for people and passion to see others achieve their goals. He recently discovered another powerful outlet to harness his passion for helping others after being recruited by Vistage (top corporate peer advisory org) to lead high performing groups. What is Vistage? “Vistage is 23,000 CEOs in 20 countries worldwide and key business leaders taking a step back from their businesses one day a month to reflect, get other input from other their peers.” How are you ultimately recruited by Vistage? “A good friend who is a Vistage Chair, and it was about a year and a half process where we had a conversation one day, we're sitting out for coffee and he says, Mervin, you really ought to consider this. You know, this is your passion. You love helping people, you love seeing people grow and you will be amazing.” What prompted you to write the workshop “The Art of Networking”? “The mission was to address what I saw, in my opinion, that was really going wrong out there. When I see people networking some of the a faux paux that they are making and wondering why networking is tough…” Can you share with our listeners your most successful or favorite networking experience that you've had? “I was in a job transition now seven, eight years ago after I closed down my commercial loan brokerage and I was out networking and someone who, who I'd met said, Hey, I think you need to talk to John about something…” How do you stay in front of or best nurture your network community? “I have a built-in process with the business alliance. We are a membership organization. We host events and programs, right? So, we do 75 plus of these a year. So, I'm constantly in front of my network in that capacity.” What advice do you have for the professional on growing their network? “Be a giver. Don't be in a rush to try to get. Just be a giver.” Digital networking or traditional networking? “For me, I'm a people person. Nothing beats a face to face conversation, sit down looking into another person's eyes and checking out their body language and all of that.” If you could go back 20 years, what would you tell yourself to do more or less of regarding your career? “I would just say break out of your shell. People aren't concerned about you, they're concerned about them.” What book are you reading right now? “I'm kind of a junkie when it comes to reading. Currently, I'm juggling only two…I just finished one, finished a third, Can't Hurt Me recently. And so, I'm reading The Power of Peers…” Any final words of advice for our listeners? “Get out there and get active. We see so many folks who get excited about being part of a new network and then they let their business or life get in the way.” You can get in contact with Mervyn at: LinkedIn: Click Here
This 100-mile run challenge for Operation Underground Railroad wasn't quite the same as Fit2Fat2Fit which was more of a long-term physical, traumatic experience but it was also emotional and mental which was my biggest takeaway from it. I've also done other smaller experiments here and there but this 100-mile run was 24 hours of suffering for the greater good. Sometimes that's what it takes to raise the human consciousness and realize that it's time to change. And that one thing is something crazy that catches their attention and creates greater awareness but also motivates them to take action. - Drew Manning How can you help bring awareness to an important cause that's close to your heart? ---> Join the Wellness Warrior VIP Club: get exclusive discounts on new wellness tools, be first in line for new podcasts, get access to invite-only events, and so much more.** ---> Get The Morning 21: A powerful (and free) system designed to give you more energy, let go of old weight, and live life well. Listen and discover how you can make Operation Underground Railroad's mission known throughout the USA and beyond through the power of influence, attention, and action. Operation Underground Railroad SINCE BEING FOUNDED IN DECEMBER 2013, Operation Underground Railroad gathered the world's experts in extraction operations and in anti-child trafficking efforts to bring an end to child slavery. O.U.R.'s Underground Jump Team consists of former CIA, Navy SEALs, and Special Ops operatives that lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts. These operations are always in conjunction with law enforcement throughout the world. Once victims are rescued, a comprehensive process involving justice for the perpetrators and recovery and rehabilitation for the survivors begins. It is time for private citizens and organizations to rise up and help. It is our duty as free and blessed people. Domestic ServicesO.U.R. salutes our nation's law enforcement officers and prosecutors at the federal, state and local levels who protect our country's children. Law enforcement professionals skillfully investigate, arrest and prosecute those who violate children. Our nation's police efforts to protect children in the U.S. are light years ahead of many, if not all other countries. O.U.R. acknowledges the expertise and extraordinary work done by these dedicated men and women who bravely battle the scourge of child sexual exploitation. We share the mission to save children and seek justice for those who victimize them, therefore O.U.R. is committed to enhancing law enforcement efforts by providing resources where budget shortfalls prohibit child pornography, child exploitation or human trafficking operation from going forward. O.U.R. will also provide or facilitate child exploitation investigative training in U.S. jurisdictions where a need exists. Collaborating with law enforcement will reduce duplication, promote best practices and avoid other potential issues which might arise without close coordination. O.U.R. is privileged and honored to support our nation's heroes in this important cause to deter, disrupt and dismantle child exploitation and the trafficking of children in our nation's communities. Listen To Episode 291 As Drew Manning Uncovers: Why he attempted to run 100 miles with his brother to do a challenge for his 40th birthday and in support of Operation Underground Railroad. The fact that sometimes it takes us to do something crazy or different to raise awareness in our society. How he was misguided as a child to thinking that suffering was part of his self-worth and being a better person. Living an authentic life for yourself rather than acting a certain way or enduring obstacles for others. Why he puts himself through challenges like running 100 miles or Fit2Fat2Fat from a place of self-love rather than self-hate. The benefit of creating your own struggles and challenges to work through so that you can be resistant when the unexpected comes your way. Why doing the same types of workouts and routine actually leads him to experience burn out and go through the motions. The challenge of losing weight, getting in shape, and loving when your body when you're unhappy in the first place. How telling the public about his goal to run 100 miles actually helped motivate and hold himself accountable to his goal. Why he specifically chose Operation Underground Railroad to help raise money for them with his 100-mile run. How we can make Operation Underground Railroad's mission known throughout the USA and beyond through the power of influence and grabbing other people's attention through action. His plant medicine ceremony experience at Rythmia in Costa Rica and why he didn't feel called to it until Josh told him about it. The power of being empathetic, connecting, and relating to other people and their struggles. The Benefit Of Creating Your Own Struggles How being vulnerable and sharing his own story of divorce, the journey of Fit2Fat2Fit, and other struggles have empowered others to share their truth from an authentic place. Why we so strongly believe that once we have an incredible physical body, we'll be set for life and everything will open up for us but that's so far from the truth. The importance of really digging deep down to your darker side to be able to transform your physical, mental, and spiritual self. Old ways of being when it comes to fitness and health compared to the new narrative of not only focusing on the physical but emotional, mental, and spiritual self as well. The story behind his tattoo, "Vulnerability is strength," and opening up about his divorce on his 100th podcast episode and live on stage at Powerful U. His mission to help other people open up about their truth, difficult situations, and emotions by sharing his own with them. Porn addiction in our society and the importance of starting conversations about it to normalize it and help others recover. How culture, religion, and society shape our way of thinking about relationships, acceptance, and health from a very young age. Connecting how we eat, move, and sleep with thoughts, feelings, and actions from a primal and biohacking approach. The fact that it's okay to shut off your brain from time to time by doing something you enjoy because otherwise, you'll burn out. How being brought up with 11 brothers and sisters impacted his relationship with his parents and the way he is now raising his daughters. Power Quotes From The Show Self-fulfillment From Within "I want to bring empathy and a better understanding of the importance of mental, emotional, and spiritual transformation in the fitness industry which is obsessed with physical transformations. Being in great shape doesn't guarantee happiness. Yes, workout programs work for physical transformation but are they bring you self-fulfillment? I'd say, no.” - Drew Manning Motivation Through Self-Love "When I do an event like running 100 miles, it's coming from a place of self-love instead of self-hate. Coming from a place of self-love instead of self-hate, it's a different type of motivation that helps me complete these challenges. Instead of hating or punishing myself, self-love allows you to create a better relationship with your body." - Drew Manning What It Actually Means To Be Successful "Yes, a person's body will change when they begin a new health program and they become less obsessed with that number going down the scale but they also become super happy with who they are, they feel better, and their perception on health, fitness, and success begins to shift. Success isn't based on that number on the scale going down; it's so much more than that. Success is about who you're becoming while you're taking that journey up the mountain." - Drew Manning Recover Faster: FITAID RX ZERO (Sugar Free + CREATINE) Recovery Blend is Keto-friendly, with the same clean ingredients and essential nutrients you love in FITAID ZERO. What does the TOUGHEST MAN ALIVE have to say about suffering? You have been asking to see David and me together, and that day has finally arrived! This interview is intense and we dig very deep into a variety of topics. It’s even better than you probably can imagine! (Very strong and adult language warning!) David Goggins, author of best-selling book Can't Hurt Me - is the only member of the U.S. Armed forces to complete Seal Training (including 3 hell weeks), the U.S. Army Ranger School and Air Force Tactical Air Controller Training. He is the EPITOME of pushing the limits! There wasn’t just one breakthrough that course-corrected Goggins’s life forever, but in this episode, we take a deep dive into the accumulation of moments that ended up cultivating the mindset needed to become the toughest man alive! Accountability is everything. What are you telling yourself in the mirror every day? Are you living up to your full potential? Quitting is a choice. Taking the path of least resistance is a choice. But you can never lie to yourself, you always know when you aren’t being the person you know you can be and there’s only ONE thing that’s getting in between you and the YOU that you know you can be… MINDSET! This episode will teach you how to go down into the dungeon and fight the war with yourself. You’ll learn how to make it all the way to the finish line even when you feel as if you can’t go any further. It’s time to close the gap between just being “inspired” to actually ACCOMPLISHING your biggest dreams. Goggins reveals how you can use your suffering as a catalyst instead of an excuse to stop! What if all of your sufferings were a clear sign of you becoming stronger because you are forcing yourself to endure what you thought you never could? This interview will CHANGE the way you look at suffering, give it a listen. I know it’s going to pump you up, just like it pumped me up!

Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins Written and narrated by Leigh Martinuzzi In this book, David Goggins shares his amazing life story that will not only shake you but leave you feeling inspired. I believe the ultimate goal for Goggins in sharing his journey is not for self-gain or recognition but to encourage others to push through their fears, overcome obstacles and realise their potential. Life wasn’t meant to be easy however when we face that fact and keep going regardless of the unease or adversity we strengthen resilience and open ourselves to a world of endless opportunities. Goggins is a living example of this. Please enjoy this week's book reflection.

One of our all-time favorite books, "Can't Hurt Me" by David Goggins, is an incredible story of the trials and tribulations one person went through to come out the other side as one of the toughest humans on the planet. Everyone can take something from this but we'll give you a little hint on what you'll realize - we all have it incredibly easy and we need to toughen up.
To make the greatest impact during our short stay on this planet, it's important to always be pursuing our 'peak mind.' Some of the most crucial elements for a peak mind include a growth mindset, positive habits, authentically sharing our gifts, and not putting off tomorrow what you can let shine today. And that's exactly what Michael is the co-founder of Global Citizen and the host of the newly launched podcast called "Peak Mind with Michael Trainer." He's also one of Mark's best friends. And although they're both cut from the same cloth and have interviewed some of the best minds of our time, Michael hasn't wanted to publish his interviews or his podcast until now. To get the inside scoop to why now was the right time to share his podcast and why a 'peak mind' is so important, check out Mark and Michael's interview on Episode 214 of the Are You Being Real? show! They also go into how authenticity plays into achieving a peak mind, lessons he learned from Tom Petty's death, and some practical tips to building rapport with anyone, including strangers (something Michael is gifted at). Enjoy!! Today on the Doc on the Run podcast, we're talking about the number one book every runner should read in 2019. I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm going to recommend the number one book you need to read if you are a runner. I think this is going to be the best book for runners in 2019. And truthfully, it's not actually just a running book. The book is David Goggins', "Can't Hurt Me." I actually met David Goggins about 10 years ago or so. And he probably won't remember me because I'm just a run-of-the-mill runner. But I met him at this event. It was a race in Chattanooga, Tennessee called the Wauhatchie Trail Race. Since that time, David Goggins has gone on to do some pretty amazing things! But, the truth is, what most people don't know is he did lots of amazing things before that...And that is what this book is all about. If you want to achieve big things this year, read this book. Get it wherever you get books. You've gotta read, "Can't Hurt Me." In "Can't Hurt Me", Goggins talks about his whole history. You are going to love it and you need to get this book!
We dive deep into David Goggin's book, Can't Hurt Me! If you struggle with holding your self accountable, setting and staying focused on your goals, you don't want to miss this. This life-altering book has made a huge impact on both our lives. We hope you join us and as always, subscribe and leave us a review. www.biggirlpantspod.com#davidgoggins#can'thurtme#takingsouls
