Kris and David are guestless this week as we discuss the (almost) week that was April 16-21, 1997. Topics of discussion include:The WWF's In Your House: Revenge of the Taker PPV, featuring Undertaker scorching Paul Bearer and the Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart rematch from WrestleMania. The Raw after the PPV, which really kickstarted the "Attitude Era" in many ways, as Austin "injures" Bret in a wild, show-long angle, and much, much more also happens on one of Raw's greatest episodes of all-time.A deeper examination into why Phil Mushnick hated wrestling fans at the time.Toshiaki Kawada finally pins Mitsuharu Misawa in a singles match for the first time as he wins the Champion Carnival at the Budokan.Atsushi Onita's desire to work with the WWF.The birth of the Torneo Cibernetico in CMLL in the form of one of the greatest matches of the 90's.ECW desperately trying to lock up talent as WCW is ready to raid.A look into the PPV numbers for Barely Legal.Tommy Rich and Doug Gilbert get busted for weed on 4/20.Dutch Mantell takes over the book in USWA and it's evident immediately.Kevin Nash and Syxx are pissed at Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, which spills over into a heated promo on Nitro as WCW backstage politics are flaming hot. This is an extremely good show here, folks, so don't miss out!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWF1:41:02 Japan: AJPW, NJPW, BattlARTS, FMW, Fuyuki Gun, IWA Japan, Samurai Project, W*ING, RINGS, AJW, GAEA, & Jd'2:10:48 Classic Commercial Break2:16:32 Halftime2:58:25 Mexico: AAA, CMLL, Promo Azteca, & Tijuana3:11:00 Other USA: ESW, NJCW, ECW, NWL, USWL, CPW, Tommy Rich & Doug Gilbert arrested, IWAMS, NAASW, USWA, World Class II, & APW3:37:34 WCWTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. REGIONAL RASSLIN' BONUS EPISODE - A Dangerous Conversation with Gene Jackson interviewing "Wildfire' Tommy Rich & Doug Gilbert. The topic this week is the legendary feud between Rich & Buzz Sawyer!!! If you were a fan of Georgia Championship Wrestling in the early 80s, there was no feud more talked about or more memorable than Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer. As most folks know, this feud came to a head in a famous steel cage match that would be known as the "Last Battle of Atlanta". The match is memorable for many reasons. One of the reasons is the cage itself, it was unique in the fact that it was a steel cage that also had a chain link top that would go on to inspire the WWE's HELL IN A CELL cage years later. It's also famous because for decades it was believed that no footage of this match existed, it was the holy grail of the pro wrestling tape traders from the VHS days into the DVD days. But mostly it was memorable because it was an exclamation point on a violent and bloody feud that lasted over two years. This week, Doug & Tommy discuss the feud with Buzz Sawyer and everything that led up to it, the match itself, and even a few things you may not remember that happened after it. Don't adjust your browsers, this is VERY Special Holiday Edition of the Wrestling Memory Grenade! In light of the NEW YEAR (Happy 2021!) and it being Rumble season and all, the boys from the Grenade are gifting everyone a very special ROYAL RUMBLE WATCH-ALONG edition of the Grenade this week with the 1996 WWF Royal Rumble PPV from the WWE Network! In reality, we've managed to track down episodes of NWA TV for the month of September 1989 that were thought to be missing forever up until now, including an episode of the NWA Main Event and a complete 2-Hour edition of NWA World Championship Wrestling for Sept. 9, but more on that next week when we resume the NWA '89 Timeline… While we take an extra week to view and take notes on the newly found NWA footage, we figured this special 20th episode of the Podcast would be a great time to bring all of our WrestleCopia brand projects together under one umbrella for one week only. Not only does Royal Rumble '96 coincide with our current discussions over at the weekly Monday Warfare Podcast (follow us on Twitter @MondayWarfare) where we break down and discuss the entire history of the Monday Night War, but it also gives everyone just a small taste of what we have to offer as part of our Watch-Along Series over at Patreon.com/WrestleCopia Right now you can subscribe to our All-Access Tier for ONLY $5 over at Patreon.com/WrestleCopia and on top of several other benefits that tier also includes our entire library in our WATCH-ALONG SERIES which includes Coliseum Video Releases, Saturday Night's Main Event, Clash of the Champions, and of course all other WCW and WWF PPV's that take place throughout the course of the Monday Night War. They're great complementary pieces that you can Watch OR Listen along to as you follow the Monday Warfare show. All of that plus more random Watch-Alongs are going up all the time! Some of the recent Watch-Along events we've posted over at our Patreon account include the WWF's Survivor Series '95 and In Your House Dec. 95 PPVs, and on the WCW side most recently added include Halloween Havoc, World War 3, and Starrcade '95, with Clash of the Champions January '96 dropping soon! But for this week we decided to give everyone a taste of our Watch-Along series by bringing the Royal Rumble to our flagship show, the Grenade.Follow us on Twitter @RasslinGrenade , home of the FREE PRIZE GIVEAWAY!Visit our Podcast Network https://wrestlecopia.com What to expect in this episode??? The Lineup is below! Before we kick the Rumble PPV Watch-Along off in grand fashion, we go back in time to the WWF's very first “FREE FOR ALL” Preshow and give that a watch as well! We hear from the returning Jake Roberts, the debuting Vader, plus HHH battles Duke “The Dumpster” Droese to determine who enters the Rumble match at #1 and who will get the coveted #30 spot! Then it's on to the main course, the 9th annual spectacle known as the Royal Rumble, featuring… WWF ROYAL RUMBLE 1996 Ahmed Johnson vs. “Double J” Jeff Jarrett WWF Tag Team Champs The Smoking Gunns vs. The Body Donnas (w/Sunny) Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon vs. Goldust (w/Marlena) The 30-Man Royal Rumble Match featuring Shawn Michaels, Vader, Yokozuna, Diesel, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, “Ringmaster” Steve Austin, Owen Hart, The British Bulldog, Marty Jannetty, HHH, Henry Godwinn, 1-2-3 Kid, Bob Backlund, Jerry Lawler, Bob Holly, King Mabel, Dory Funk Jr., Savio Vega, All Japan's Takao Omori, The Squat Team, USWA's Doug Gilbert, Hakushi, Tatanka, Aldo Montoya, Kama, Barry Horowitz, Fatu, Isaac Yankem, & Duke “The Dumpster” Droese WWF Heavyweight Champion Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. The Undertaker ROYAL RUMBLE PLUS+ - Post PPV interviews with Gorilla Monsoon, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, The Undertaker, and more! Tonight we once again peer into Pandora's box of promos. You could put an automatic rifle in each of an Octopus's arms and still not accomplish as much shooting as Doug Gilbert was doing on live TV in Memphis. He said WHAT about Jerry Lawler? We voyeuristically visit our counterparts in the Alternate Universe as Dr. Shillgood listens to smooth jazz and sips cocktails with Greg as they discuss the mind blowing conspiracy theories regarding the psycho rapist Dino Royale. We return back to the Mad Mad World of Wrestling Mad Libs. Join Ricky and Greg as they once again howl with laughter at their presumed brilliance in creating mad libs pro wrestling stories that only the most sophisticated of second graders can truly appreciate. Then in our main event segment of the evening, we bring you PART 2 of our interview with Joey Cassata AKA Joeylicious as he tells us of his fantastic and fascinating experience writing a book and developing a show for Amazon about a troubled indie wrestler and his imaginary BUT LEGENDARY friends...who really like to kick his ass as they teach him life lessons.

This week we look closely at May 1999 Power Pro Wrestling. Again, Randy is able to take us behind the scenes with a very unique perspective as the booker and owner of the promotion. Randy guides us back to the summer of 1999, and takes us through his thought process while booking several episodes of Power Pro Wrestling. This was an especially exciting time, as Kurt Angle won his first pro wrestling title, Jim Cornette returned to Memphis as a big surprise heel, and many others names were involved like Rikishi, Tracy Smothers, Vic Grimes, Doug Gilbert, and many more. This is a great look at the art of booking week to week pro wrestling TV.

Doug Gilbert was a Catholic missionary priest in Liberia, West Africa. He worked with the Society of African Missions (SMA) and was the pastor of a church in Pipeline, an outlying area of the capital Monrovia. Doug ministered during the Liberian civil war, and worked with a group of Catholic nuns who ran a hospital for children who were wounded in the war. Today, Doug is back in the States, is laicized (no longer an active Catholic priest) and married with a son. His day job is now information technology. However, he continues his missionary work through a ministry of songwriting and repairing old stringed instruments to give to homeless musicians.

Sign Guy's Wrestling Show is very proud to welcome a member of one of the greatest wrestling families of all time, "Dangerous" Doug Gilbert. From Memphis to Global to Japan to Puerto Rico and all points in between Doug Gilbert has seen and done it all in professional wrestling. He'll talk about his over 20 year career, but he's lived in the buisness his entire life as the son of the great Tommy Gilbert. This is one interview that will for sure get "Dangerous."
Today we are discussing a truly unique and fascinating project that has been implemented in Scotland, called Project Wolf. Now despite the title, this is not an actual wolf re-introduction project. Although the organization managing the project, Trees for Life, is interested in eventually re-introducing wolves in Scotland, they recognize this to be a long-term goal. So in the meantime, they have organized human wolf packs. These are small groups of people tasked with wandering through the Scottish landscape replicating certain aspects of wolf behavior.
Kris & David are guestless this week was we discuss the DAY that was November 6, 1999. Yes, one day....you will understand why when you listen to the show. This was a Patreon-requested show that Pete Fusco put on the board, so if you want to be a Patron and have a chance to pick a week yourself, then visit Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets ( http://www.patreon.com/betweenthesheets ) to find out how you can do that. We talk about the infamous Doug Gilbert shoot promo on Memphis Power Pro Wrestling, going over the full month of buildup to the incident so you get the full context of why it happened. In addition to all of the relevant promo clips, we play Doug's thoughts from his shoot interview DVD many years later. We also talk about the 100 greatest matches of Keiji Mutoh’s career, all kinds of results from around the world, plus Mick Foley's book shattering records and much more. This was a short show—by our standards, at least—but an extremely fun one, as well, so check it out!!! Kris & David are joined by Mikey Blanton (@BLPMikey) of Black Label Pro to discuss the week-plus that was August 11-18, 1995. We talk about an eventful period in the WWF as Davey Boy Smith abruptly turns heel, Adam Bomb & Lex Luger give their notices, and Goldust makes his debut on Monday Night RAW in a very interesting vignette. We also talk about an article in The Economist regarding American wrestling killing off local wrestling in England, New Japan selling out Sumo Hall five nights in a row for Ric Flair’s only G1 Climax tournament, comings and goings in the promotional wars in Mexico, ECW's issues with Sunshine Network among others continuing, the highs and lows for SMW crowd wise as a highly exaggerated Fire On The Mountain attendance figure hits the newsletters, Doug Gilbert cutting an amazing promo on USWA TV, plus WCW officially picking up Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, & Dean Malenko.
