Send us a Text Message.James Mountain Inhofe , was an interesting man. He was Oklahoma's longest serving Senator, a pilot, and a man who served in office on every level of Government. He was Mayor of Tulsa, a Congressman and a Senator. He was a conservative advocate and a man who fought the Climate change movement every step of the way. He even famously once brought a snowball into the Senate Chamber to make his point. In this episode we will remember that famous moment and look back the years he served as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee too. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and active duty personnel too. He was most famously though, a man who fought for the needs of Oklahoma. We will look back at his career and in our last half hour let you hear from him on his final day in the United States Senate, in his farewell address. Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., described Inhofe on Tuesday as a "dear friend and mentor, a titan in Oklahoma, and a highly effective leader in D.C." He was an extraordinary figure in the Senate and in this episode we look back at his career. He died on July 9, 2024 at the age of 89. We live in a desperately cynical world - christ, the Babble should know - but a few public figures remain untarnished, standing tall as beacons of trustworthiness while our shared consensus collapses around us. The O.G. Big Dave is perhaps the most trusted of them all, the mere idea of him lying too horrible to comprehend. Which is perhaps why, when *he* tells us the planet is on fire and it's all our fault - unlike, say, every climate activist - the message is heard, listened to, and believed. It's also why he must never be allowed to retire or, frankly, drop off the perch. So to celebrate his recent 96th birthday, we ask: who really is this nonagenarian newt nuzzler? What did he do before he was climbing mountains of bat shit on telly? And do his dodgy views about birth control mean he should be a permanent resident of Inhofe corner? This episode delves into Peter Gwynne's Newsweek article "The Cooling World" from 1975. After showing that the purported "unanimous" consensus on global cooling was a myth, we explore how that myth has infected the Congressional Record through Senator Snowball aka Senator Jim Mountain Inhofe of Oklahoma.
United States Senator Jim Inhofe has been a fixture in Oklahoma politics since the 1960s. But in February the 87-year-old announced he would be resigning less than two years into his most recent term. The timing of his announcement is key. Inhofe said he would stay in office until next year, meaning that Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt can't nominate an interim replacement. Instead, a special election will be held later this year. The surprise opening of a coveted Senate seat resulted in a number of dominoes falling as candidates started appearing out of thin air. Today on Listen Frontier, Frontier reporter Reese Gorman discuss Inhofe's resignation, how the race is shaping up, and a pending lawsuit that might stop the process just as it's getting started.

The legislative debate over education vouchers continues to heat up, and this week OEA released https://okea.org/wp-content/uploads/Voucher-Polling-slides-Final-v2.pdf (some polling numbers) which indicated that a majority of Oklahomans do not support the use of public tax dollars for private education. Also, more big names enter the race for Inhofe's US Senate seat.
This Week in Oklahoma Politics, KOSU's Michael Cross talks with Republican Political Consultant Neva Hill and Civil Rights Attorney Ryan Kiesel about a trial over Oklahoma's execution protocol coming to an end and a challenge against the special election to fill the seat getting vacated by US Senator Jim Inhofe. The trio also discusses the State Health Department ending its daily reporting on COVID-19 numbers and lawmakers considering legislation allowing for the research of psychedelic psilocybin or "magic mushrooms to treat mental health issues from addiction to post traumatic stress disorder.

One of Oklahoma's US Senators,https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2022/02/25/sen-jim-inhofe-oklahoma-endorses-chief-staff-luke-holland-successor/6930792001/ ( Jim Inhofe, announced he is retiring from the Senate) at the end of the year, just two years into his six-year term. While the state legislature recently changed the law to permit the Governor to appoint a replacement, the timing of Inhofe's resignation - before March 1st in an even-numbered year - means that Governor Stitt will NOT get to appoint someone. Instead, a special election will be held this November, meaning that both of Oklahoma's US Senate seats are up for election, one with incumbent James Lankford seeking reelection and the other now an open seat. In this episode, we discuss possible candidates for the seat and what the implications are for Oklahoma's political landscape.

A wise person once said that when it comes to buggering up the planet, prison is an underused deterrent. And just why should it be OK to be an Earth-nausing Inhofe with impunity? NO WE AGREE WITH YOU, IT SHOULD NOT. Enter a fearsome bunch of lawyers and campaigners that have been steadily building momentum behind getting 'ecocide' - deliberately harming the environment - adopted as an international crime. In today's show, we talk about Republicans worrying that Trump may run again in 2024, Lindsey Graham trying to steal the Senate runoff elections in Georgia, whether a Biden DOJ should prosecute Trump, and how Fox News et. al. will try to make Trump the new Reagan whose message doesn't fade for decades. And we also delve into Scott Atlas' latest inanities. (PS I was wrong about Grassley! It was Inhofe who pulled the "wanna shake hands?" prank.)This is one of our free episodes. David Van, of SoonerPolitics, returns to 3D Politics with a huge scoop on the abuse of a State Riot Act. The governor wants emergency powers to enact new laws without the legislature, but used the Riot Control Act to manipulate the state govt. Lawmakers are already warning us of the corruption. Your haste, Rick Freedman will Chrome the climate hero and villain of the week along with discussing worldwide environmental issues, showcasing new products designed with the longevity of our planet in mind and putting the spotlight on the individuals making a big impact in helping the climate and pollution crisis through social media. Now your host, Rick Friedman. Rick: (https://www.rev.com/transcript-editor/Edit?token=YgQrZdSymDLBxlTt8HjwoewRsIGuXWDiELrGI8jjQmuSo4KSb4oSGq0hnUfZIabGaRG3iUxfPsernz49BRpW3Y6Xv9I&loadFrom=PastedDeeplink&ts=37.311 (00:37)) What is deforestation? Deforestation is the clearing, destroying, or removal of trees through deliberate, natural or accidental means. It occurs in any area densely populated by trees and other plant life, but most of it is happening in the Amazon rain forest. I remember going to the Cleveland zoo and seeing the display showing deforestation. There was the sound of buzz saws zipping through trees above it. There was a running total of acreage lost. It's like a horrible scoreboard of forest con forever. Rick: (https://www.rev.com/transcript-editor/Edit?token=YgQrZdSymDLBxlTt8HjwoewRsIGuXWDiELrGI8jjQmuSo4KSb4oSGq0hnUfZIabGaRG3iUxfPsernz49BRpW3Y6Xv9I&loadFrom=PastedDeeplink&ts=68.24 (01:08)) Part of the problem is that we're converting more land to agriculture than ever before. There's more people on the planet they need to eat. Once a forest has lost agriculture, it's usually gone forever along with the plants and animals that once lived there. Billions of acres of forest are destroyed by fire. Fire is often used as a way to clear land for planting crops. Do you remember dr Seuss, his book, the Lorax? Think about the Brown Barbara Lutes and the Swami swamps and the humming fish that flood the forest for two reasons. One, they had to get away from the pollution.
