What the H? Exactly. The award-winning* Lickers discuss some of their favorite records filed under the letter H. -- In the early 1970s, legendary collaborator and self-proclaimed non-musician Brian Eno famously designed a deck of 115 cards containing elliptical imperatives to spark in the user creative connections unobtainable through regular modes of work. He called his creation "Oblique Strategies." For nearly one half of a century, countless artists and professionals across the globe have benefited from utilizing the oblique strategies technique when attempting to overcome a lull in creative output. In 2023, idiotic, introverted hobby podcasters and self-proclaimed Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon found themselves uninspired when contemplating the potential themes of their upcoming thirty-third episode. Together, they decided... to default back to the alphabet. Because they have a reasonably good solid grasp of the alphabet and how it works. For this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a special two-part episode featuring both members of one of my favorite bands, Wye Oak, in conversation with some other fantastic musicians, so be sure to stick around for both halves! First up it's Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner and singer-songwriter Johanna Samuels, both of whom have new music coming out, coincidentally, on June 23. Samuels has been making beautiful, deeply personal music for the last decade or so, and her new one is a doozy. The album is called Bystander, and it was recorded with Josh Kaufman of Bonny Light Horseman—he's the Josh you'll hear referenced in this chat. Check out “Ugly on the Inside” from Bystander right here. Samuels is joined here by Talkhouse pal Jenn Wasner, who's probably best known as half of Wye Oak, but has also recorded music recently under the name Flock of Dimes. It's no wonder that Wasner and Samuels get along, as both are incredibly thoughtful and sincere in their musical pursuits: They're looking for something much bigger than a hooky song to sing, they're out to connect on a deeper level. Wye Oak has sort of morphed into a different kind of band in recent years, choosing to stay away from the make-an-album-then-tour-forever cycle and instead release singles and one-off songs as Wasner and Andy Stack are able. A bunch of those songs have just been compiled on an album called Every Day Like the Last. They sound as good as anything the duo has done, which is to say they sound great. Check out “I Learned it From You” right here. In this conversation, Wasner and Samuels talk about the magic of the Newport Folk Festival, how great it is to work with Josh Kaufman, and how to express heavy thoughts within joyful music. You'll find out whether these are women of mystery, and you'll hear Wasner refer to herself as “a big golden retriever of a person.” Enjoy. In the second half of this epic Talkhouse two-parter, we've actually got three speakers: Andy Stack, who's best known as half of Wye Oak, but who's also made some solo records under the name Joyero. Along with him is Jay Hammond, with whom Stack recently made a great instrumental record, and Joe Westerlund. I'll start with Westerlund, and I'll try to do his bio justice: He started out in the Wisconsin band Deyarmond Edison, which has a massive retrospective box set coming out this year, and which is best known as the band that started Justin Vernon of Bon Iver down his musical path. Westerlund has also contributed to lots of other song-based music over the years, drumming for the likes of Califone and his project Megafaun. But it definitely feels like Westerlund has found his true calling in his solo instrumental work, including the recent Elegies for the Drift, whose compositions were largely inspired by important people in his life who'd passed away recently. It's a gorgeous, emotional ride. Check out “The Circle,” which is dedicated to Akron/Family's Miles Cooper Seaton, a friend of Westerlund's who tragically died in a car crash in 2021. It makes sense that Westerlund got together for a chat with Andy Stack and Jay Hammond, because they all have North Carolina in common: It's become something of a refuge for a bunch of bands over the past few years, with their friends in Sylvan Esso building a studio there, and lots of folks—including both members of Wye Oak—taking up residence there. Stack and Hammond got together recently and struck gold with a series of electro-acoustic improvisations that they winnowed down to album length and titled Inter Personal—a nod to the connection that they deepened by making this music together. Check out “Life on a Ship” right here. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Johanna Samuels, Jenn Wasner, Andy Stack, Jay Hammond, and Joe Westerlund for chatting. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

Welcome to Roadcase!! We are super-psyched to have Jenn Wasner on the show! Jenn is the uber-talented and incredibly charming artist responsible for Flock of Dimes and Wye Oak, and also performs on the road with Bon Iver. An incredibly thoughtful musician, Jenn talks to Josh about the creative forces behind her multi-faceted musical life from both a practical and creative perspective. Despite the plethora of external forces straining today's music industry, Jenn is grounded in her creativity and maintains a healthy perspective as to the most effective way to move forward for her own sanity; that is, she remains a conduit for the artistic forces that drive her in exploring new and amazing directions. Jenn is philosophical and exploratory while at the same time, keeping true to herself... it's all one can really do! It is an exquisite example of an artist finding their way in a very difficult world, and in Jenn's case, the outcome is quite stunning. We are all also super-psyched for her new Flock of Dimes album, "Head of Roses: Phantom Limb," out April 15. So hop on the Roadcase Bus and learn more about this amazing and super compelling artist, Jenn Wasner. Jenn Wasner, one half of the shape shifting US alt. indie due Wye Oak, reflects on 10 years of their breakthrough record, Civilian and the experiences that shaped its creation.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary, Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack reflect on the writing and recording of the third Wye Oak album, CIVILIAN. In this episode, they describe this intense period as a young band when they were taking every touring opportunity available and were getting burnt out by working constantly. For CIVILIAN, they were moving out of their comfort zone with recording as they sought help beyond their tight knit Baltimore community and went to Dallas to have the record mixed by John Congleton. On a personal level, Jenn talks about the panic attacks she was experiencing along with a sense of shame that she was feeling in response to her music career taking off, distancing her from the people she loved. In addition, Jenn and Andy talk about a key romantic relationship that was ending, which greatly informed the songwriting for this record. From ominous energy in Dallas to questioning religion and long-term relationships to capturing the right guitar solo to making beautiful ugliness, we'll hear the stories around how the record came together.
What do you do when the music stops and there's no dancing in the distraction machine? For Jenn Wasner, like so many of us, that was her pandemic year. She had become “incredibly adept at outrunning myself,” so when her life as a touring musician was paused and two relationships ended she realized that picking up the guitar was not going to bring peace. Jenn Wasner's band Wye Oak, her collaboration with Andy Stack, is connoisseur-grade indie rock and her deep musicality has earned her spots on the Bon Iver and Sylvan Esso touring line-ups. She just released her best solo work as Flock of Dimes and the moving, evocative songwriter that has won over so many showed up in our interview. Even if you've never been in the spotlight, we think you'll identify with Jenn's poignant, often funny and piercingly true reflections on why we can't let the outside give us our inside. Plus, you get a surprise detour discussion about the Enneagram. Get to know Jenn better: Flock of Dimes' Jenn Wasner: 'I became incredibly adept at outrunning myself' An instrument of healing with Jenn Wasner and Helado Negro - Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes, Roberto Lange (aka Helado Negro), Hand Habits' Meg Duffy and saxophonist Joseph Shabason discuss music as a form of healing. The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space. Stephen Thompson | Aug, 10, 2021 Flock of Dimes may be a "solo" project for Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner, but she couldn't pass up an opportunity to invite a few friends over. You'll spot their familiar faces all over this video: Mountain Man's Amelia Randall Meath, Molly Sarlé and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, percussionist Matthew McCaughan from Bon Iver... you even get full attendance from Sylvan Esso, given that Meath is seated alongside her partner Nick Sanborn. (He doesn't play in the set, but he did co-produce Flock of Dimes' latest album, so Wasner asked him to sit in and bring a book to read.) The result is a communal set — filmed at Sylvan Esso's new studio in Durham, N.C., called Betty's — that doesn't merely re-create three of the songs from this year's Head of Roses. These acoustic performances actually shed new light, thanks to radiant and radically different arrangements, while fully capturing the warmth we look for from Tiny Desk concerts. (Plus, with nine people in the frame, it's a cast large enough that when they clap between songs, they almost sound like a crowd.) Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes, Roberto Lange (aka Helado Negro), Hand Habits' Meg Duffy and saxophonist Joseph Shabason discuss music as a form of healing and the impact it has both on themselves and those who listen to it, not being able to find the right thing to say when they're approached after a show, and how selfishness can benefit the creative process. Roberto Lange, aka Helado Negro, is an Ecuadorian-American singer, songwriter and producer. His 2019 album, This Is How You Smile, was critically adored and his newest, Far In, is due later this year. Musician and guitarist Meg Duffy hails from New York, and is the founder, songwriter and sole permanent member of indie rock group Hand Habits, who released their latest album Placeholder in 2019. They have also written and performed with The War on Drugs and Weyes Blood. Canadian saxophonist and ambient electronic artist Joseph Shabason has worked with Destroyer, The War On Drugs, Hannah Georgas, and many more. His latest album, The Fellowship, explores the duality of the Jewish and Muslim household he grew up in.

In the winter of 2007, a songwriter by the name of Justin Vernon returned to the Wisconsin woods, not far from where he grew up. Just a few months later, he emerged with “For Emma, Forever Ago”—his first album produced under the name Bon Iver. Since then, Vernon and various bandmates have released three more records, won two Grammys, and collaborated with Kanye West, becoming one of the most celebrated bands in indie music. The music critic Amanda Petrusich spoke with Vernon at The New Yorker Festival, alongside his bandmates Brad Cook and Chris Messina. They discuss using made-up words as lyrics; Vernon's deep, deep love of “Northern Exposure”; and how a group like Bon Iver engages with current events in today's toxic political climate. Bon Iver performed “U (Man Like),” “Marion,” and “RABi”; Vernon was accompanied by Sean Carey, Jenn Wasner, and Mike Lewis. This story originally aired November 29, 2019

Blake Mills has the kind of resume that might make the average person feel really lazy. Not only is he an active musician, but also a Grammy-winning producer (for Alabama Shakes’ 2015 album Sound and Color), a collaborator to the stars—including the likes of Fiona Apple and Bob Dylan—and most recently, one of the guys in charge of the legendary Sound City studio in L.A. Mills’ newest musical project is a collaboration with legendary bassist Pino Palladino called Notes With Attachments. Just prior to that, it was the Pitchfork Best New Music designee Mutable Set, from 2020. Nick Sanborn is half of Sylvan Esso, along with Amelia Meath. The duo recorded their third and latest album, the excellent Free Love, while they were constructing a brand new studio, called Betty’s, on their farm in North Carolina. The album came out in September of last year, which obviously meant touring was off the table, but Sanborn got plenty busy with production work, including helping to create the most recent Flock of Dimes record with recent Talkhouse guest Jenn Wasner. Since the album’s release, Nick and Amelia have kept busy, releasing videos, a killer remix of their song “Numb,” and a live album called WITH. And now they’ve rescheduled a big tour for this fall, kicking off at Bonaroo, where they’ll host the Super Jam. Check out sylvanesso.com for tour dates. Sanborn and Blake get right into it in this conversation, covering the intimate relationships that make for good records, the joy and trepidation about returning to public stages, and even how weird it is to do the Talkhouse Podcast. Enjoy. This episode was produced by Melissa Kaplan. The Talkhouse Podcast theme is composed and performed by the Range.
Flock of Dimes - "Price of Blue" from the 2021 album Head of Roses on Sub Pop. Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner returned to her solo project Flock Of Dimes for an album about heartbreak, titled Head of Roses. In a press release, she explains, "Part of the journey for me has been learning to take responsibility for the parts of things that are mine, even when I’m in a lot of pain through some behavior or action of someone else. If I’m expecting to be forgiven for the things I’ve done and the choices I’ve made and the mistakes that I’ve made, it would be incredibly cowardly and hypocritical to not also do the work that’s required to forgive others the pain they caused me.” On today's Song of the Day, Wasner examines one of the biggest ways a relationship dissolves: lack of communication. “This song is about trying, and failing, to connect," she continues. “It’s about the ways in which, despite our best efforts, we misunderstand each other, and become so attached to stories that we’re unable to see the truth that’s right in front of us. And it’s about the invisible mark that another person can leave on your body, heart and mind long after their absence. It can be difficult to make sense of the memory of your experience when the reality on the surface is always shifting — when the story you’re telling, or the story you’ve been told, unravels, leaving you with a handful of pieces and no idea how they used to fit together.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Flock of Dimes’ solo album “Head of Roses” was co-produced by Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn. Its stunning songs feature members of Bon Iver, Wye Oak, and Landlady, with frontwoman Jenn Wasner’s plaintive voice at the fore. “Awake for the Sunrise” strips back the layers to expose this singer’s sweet introspection.
Merrill Garbus and Jenn Wasner released monumental records just a week apart this year: Tune-Yards fifth album—sixth if you count their score to Boots Riley’s film Sorry to Bother You—is called Sketchy, and it’s as puzzling and progressive as you’ve hopefully come to expect. Garbus and bassist Nate Brenner are never content to rest on their past glories: They’re always searching for new modes of thought and expression, and Garbus’ lyrics meld the personal and political into one fiery concoction. Jenn Wasner is best known for singing and playing guitar in Wye Oak, and she’s also released albums with Dungeonesse and solo style under the name Flock of Dimes, in addition to being a recent touring member of Bon Iver. It’s her Flock of Dimes project that’s garnering some incredible, well deserved attention this year, including a huge feature in the New York Times. It makes sense, considering that the album she’s promoting is so extraordinary: Head of Roses will be both familiar to her fans and unexpected, with new sounds, textures, and lyrical motivations. The story is that it’s an album about heartbreak, but it’s so much more. It's a great conversation between two great friends. Enjoy.
This week we start in Carrboro, North Carolina and a great track from Jenn Wasner, and her solo project: Flock of Dimes. Then off to Los Angeles for the grunge-esque MILLY. Next stop on the global tour: Colombia, and an amazing recording from French producer Lion's Drums and the Kagabas indigineous people of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Then off to the African nation of Niger for a hot new track featuring some blazing guitar from Mdou Moctar and his band. And we turn the clock back to a legend by the name of Junior Kimbrough, it's a Delta Blue classic, and get ready for some of the best blues guitar you'll find anywhere, anytime. And believe it or not, this Kimbrough was remixed by Daft Punk! (Honest!)
In this episode, we get to meet Jenn Wasner. Best known as the lead singer and guitarist for indie rock band Wye Oak, Jenn has just released her second solo album under the name Flock of Dimes, called Head of Roses. In this chat, we discuss a lot about the new album, including the dark emotional place that led to much of its creation. We talk about compassion and hope, the healing beauty of the natural world, albums vs. touring, and why she feels happiest when making music. Please enjoy, and thank you for listening.

Wye Oak - "AEIOU" from the 2020 No Horizon EP on Merge Records. The duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack — better known to us as Wye Oak — have teamed up with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus for the brand-new five-song EP No Horizon, out now via Merge Records. “There’s this sense of communion of making music with other people in real time and space, and that’s something that had eluded us on multiple levels,” Stack explained via a press release. “We’ve known for a while that we needed to learn how to let this project evolve so that it could continue to exist, because our partnership as friends and musicians and collaborators feels important. We need to find new ways to make it still feel vital and still feel new. And this is a part of that exploration.” She describes today's Song of the Day as a "about the inadequacy of language," adding: It was written around the time that those currently in power took it upon themselves to think that they could minimize the existence of certain people by removing the words that we currently use to define them — like transgender — from use. This week on Transmissions, we’re joined by songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jenn Wasner. She had planned on spending a fair amount of 2020 on the road playing guitar, keys, and singing with Bon Iver, but instead she’s spending it in a manner probably familiar to readers: watching TV and drinking coffee, thinking about the potential end of the world. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t kept busy: this week, her duo with Andy Stack, Wye Oak, releases its new EP No Horizon, a collaboration with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. And she’s got another EP out too, the recently released Like So Much Desirefrom her solo project, Flock of Dimes. Both projects are great showcases for her progressive songcraft, which pairs oblique and exploratory lyrics with swooning avant-pop. Wasner has never settled comfortable into just one mode—scanning through her discography reveals folk, synth-driven art rock, and guitar epics—but her inquisitive, intricate lyrics serve as a throughline. She joined us to discuss the role of imagination in creating the future, staying sane, what’s keeping her company on the turntable, working with Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver collective and what she’s learned from producing singer/songwriter Madeline Kenney.
The absolute legends and loveliest of people, Sylvan Esso join the podcast this week for a delightful chat. The duo of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn produce some of the most propulsive, explosive, heart-pumping tunes and lead the biggest dance parties at festivals around the world. It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite song between their two albums, but luckily last week's surprise live album and concert film collect them all in a perfect bundle. The record is a deliriously beautiful document of their 2019 WITH tour, a sold-out jaunt that saw Sylvan Esso perform on classic stages, such as the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, New York's Beacon Theater, and LA's Walt Disney Concert Hall. Plus, those performances featured an expanded live band, including former podcast guest Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Amelia's bandmates in Mountain Man on harmonies, and Adam Schatz of Landlady, among others. In this episode, Nick and Amelia chat with host Lior Phillips about what it took to bring those shows to life, adding saxophone, bass clarinet, and two percussionists to their sound, the Michelin Man inspiration behind Amelia's incredible stage costume, details from the duo's soon-to-be released third album, and so much more. Head here for more info on Sylvan Esso. For more from Lior Phillips and This Must Be the Gig, follow along on Instagram or Twitter, or like the show page on Facebook. You may know Andy Stack as one half of the duo Wye Oak, along with Jenn Wasner. But he’s also one WHOLE of Joyero, whose debut came out on Merge in 2019. He talks to Pat Healy as Wye Oak assembles for their first tour in years. The difference with the latest tour is that it's more than just Jenn and Andy now. The live band features Arone Dyer, Pinson Chanselle, and Adam Schatz. Visit musicismylifepod.com now.

They discuss using made-up words as lyrics; Vernon’s deep, deep love of “Northern Exposure,”; and how a group like Bon Iver engages with current events in today’s toxic political climate. Bon Iver performed “U (Man Like),” “Marion,” and “RABi”; Vernon was accompanied by Sean Carey, Jenn Wasner, and Mike Lewis.
Natalie Hemby of the supergroup, Highwomen says their new album pushes for more female representation and narratives in country music. Sean Carey and Jenn Wasner of Bon Iver talk about the band’s change in sound. Plus, a panel discussion about how many music venues in Seattle are at risk of closure. (Panelists include Dana Sims of El Corazon/Funhouse, Dane Wilson of Re-Bar and James Keblas, former Director of Seattle’s Office of Film and Music.) Support the show.
On the latest episode of Kyle Meredith With..., three of today's sharpest indie outfits close out the week with some chewy discussions. Frances Quinlan of Hop Along discusses the origins of a few tracks from the group's newest album Bark Your Head Off, Dog. Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak opens up about expanding their sound and exploring the possibilities that come with adding a new member to their live lineup. And finally, Hannah Joy of Middle Kids touches on their growing popularity and picking up Will Arnett as a fan. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
Wye Oak released the album "The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs" last spring. Led by the songwriting duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack, the Baltimore group has made a habit of changing its sound from record to record, and its sixth full-length is no exception. With the addition of new member Will Hackney, Wye Oak's sound has grown fuller and richer. Wye Oak stopped into the CPR Performance Studio before headlining Denver's Bluebird Theater. The band members played four songs and spoke with Jeremy Petersen about expanding the band's sound on the new record, how they write music while living in different cities and the ambiguous meaning of the album's title.
Six albums into the band's discography, Wye Oak's Andy Stack and Jenn Wasner continue to experiment with both their electronic and rock tendencies, resulting in this year's finessed The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs. The Baltimore-founded band join Cheryl Waters in the KEXP Live Room for a session of four new songs. Recorded 07/16/2018. 4 songs - Lifer, It Was Not Natural, You of All People, The Louder I Call, The Faster It RunsSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak tells Jay about why Eaux Claires is special, and how the band were officially named cultural ambassadors of the State of Maryland via their connection to the original Wye Oak tree.
Before Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes) and Jana Hunter (Lower Dens) were famous musicians, they worked long shifts together in a Baltimore restaurant. The friends watched each other's artistic careers explode, and when they sat down in the Sonos room at Rough Trade NYC — for one of three conversations that Talkhouse curated for Northside Festival — their chat was both hilarious and moving. (You can listen to Jlin with William Basinski now, and Suicide's Martin Rev talking with Julianna Barwick will drop soon.) As well as tales of those early days washing dishes and lying to annoying customers, their talk takes in the baggage of being "a girl with a guitar," the pros and cons of ceding control in the creative process, and... Abba. Jlin and William Basinski are two of today's most fascinating and gifted composers. Basinski works with decaying analogue tape loops to create ambient soundscapes, while Jlin constructs brilliant, stuttering reimaginings of footwork rhythms. The friends and collaborators sat down in the Sonos room at Rough Trade NYC for one of three conversations that Talkhouse curated for Northside Festival. (Upcoming episodes will feature the other two, Suicide's Martin Rev with Julianna Barwick, and Lower Dens' Jana Hunter with Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes). The two get into Basinski's tribute to his hero David Bowie, Jlin's boundary-pushing collaborations with cutting-edge dancers, and how a cat on the loose ended up significantly contributing to Basinski’s artistry. Jenn Wasner (musician! Wye Oak!) makes it weird!
Jenn Wasner of Flock of Dimes and Wye Oak takes you through why Joni Mitchell's "Amelia" both comforts and terrifies her. And Lucy Dacus explains how the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" is a friendly ghost in her life, and how Prince's "I Would Die 4 You," helped expand her idea of how cool a song about God could be.

"Yeah, it’s heavily skewed towards the penis-having side of the musical world," Jenn Wasner says of the tradition of naming a guitar after a (typically male) artist, an honor recently bestowed upon her when Reverend Guitars created the JW-1. Wasner, well-known as one half of the band Wye Oak and now the sole writer, instrumentalist and singer of the solo project Flock of Dimes, stopped by Soul Sisters to talk about her stellar new LP If You See Me, Say Yes. My guest this week is Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes and Dungeonesse. We go in on imposter syndrome, writing jingles, tour blues and smashing writer's block with self-acceptance. Recorded at The Lineup Room. Art by Mike Riley.
Our conversation had me thinking on some of the highlights from my experiences at past years attending the festival. Many of the most fun times I've had at Hopscotch or in Raleigh, or at live concerts in general have been sparked by the somewhat spontaneous nature of Hopscotch's design. By so excellently pairing such interesting and unknown artists together with local acts or more established groups the festival creates an atmosphere that breeds discovery. But while there are great sets at single venues at the same time the range of diversity and general quality of the festival brings always brings up conflicts and scavenger hunt style show attendance hopping. I remember at last year's festival I went to CAM to see Horse Lords on a completely blind suggestion from a friend. Horse Lords have been described as “polyrhythmic krautrockers” that use intonation and repeating tropes in an entrancing psychedelic rock and roll kind of way. It doesn't sound like the kind of thing that could be catchy or fun but IT WAS. The live performance had multitudes of energy and on top of that I got to have a conversation with Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner in the crowd. Its that kind of liberating feeling that any show you could walk into could be your next favorite band that has kept me coming to Hopscotch year after year and I hope you consider making some spontaneous choices this year as well.
- Save Those Tears for the Doughnuts! - Hola Digheads! This week, Mike and Josh have the pleasure of chatting with Mickey Freeland and Jen Wasner of Wye Oak! Jenn and Andy Stack formed the indie rock outfit Wye Oak in 2006. They quickly garnered respect in Baltimore and beyond. The AV Club deemed their album “Civilian” the best album of 2011. And in support of that album they embarked on a world tour for over a year, playing more than 200 shows in 2011 alone. The grind of a world tour seems to have left Jenn burnt out. She blames her bowels. But, while she's home, she's still writing jammy jams. Jenn's new poppy project, Dungeonesse, will be out May 14 via Secretly Canadian. Mickey, a damn fantastic musician in his own right, also contributes to Jenn's “Flock of Dimes” project. Mickey's an excellent rapper and beat maker. Check out Mickey's awesome solo album, “The Last of the Tight Wiggers,” which is available for 5 bones at mickeyfreemusic.com! We also discuss the XFL (RIP), Monute Bol invented the phrase “My bad,” ButterMusic Girls, Beyonce, being depressed, quippin hard, loving puns, Jenn doesn't want to talk about her therapist, and so much more!
