JOHN LENNON/PLASTIC ONO BAND with special guest Philip Norman. John Lennon's stunning debut album is quite rightly regarded as his best. Bleak, exhilarating and soulful, ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band' is a true classic album. Legendary author & journalist, Philip Norman wrote 'Shout! The True Story Of The Beatles,' the multi million seller biography that was published in 1981. 'John Lennon: The Life' was published in 2008. In a classic conversation with Jason Barnard, PHILIP NORMAN reels off stories about the Fabs, Yoko, Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor, Margo Fontaine and David Bailey just to name a few. It's a funny, sad, poignant and riveting interview that had the sold-audience captivated throughout. If you would like to learn more about Philip's extraordinary life we highly recommend his memoir, ‘We Danced On Our Desks.' Philip's new blog, ‘Read Me Do' can be found at:https://open.substack.com/pub/philipnorman/p/the-man-who-made-the-beatles?r=2uoo5g&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email JASON BARNARD was in the interviewer's chair. We look at songs from a few of the major protest movements in our lifetime – racism, Vietnam, Ireland, Margaret Thatcher! From Woody Guthrie, through Springsteen and Dylan, to racism and Vietnam and the UK's  Margaret Thatcher, to present-day Australia, we look at some of the great protest songs.  Some of the stories behind those songs will take your breath away.   Our “Album You Must Hear before You Die” this time is Talking Heads' awesome “Remain in Light” from 1980.  This album has been hailed as Talking Heads' greatest statement, the last and most accomplished of the trio of albums they recorded with Brian Eno (another of our idols). Seemingly timed to coincide with our review, the live movie “Stop Making Sense” has been completely restored and is in 4K on the big screen - 40 years on!  We also talk about how Ed Kuepper achieves such a big sound in concert using a special edition Fender Stratocaster. There's sure to be stuff you didn't know here!  References:  Ed Kuepper, Fender FSR Stratocaster X, Talking Heads, “Remain in Light”, Brian Eno, “Once in a Lifetime”, “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts”, USA – Vietnam, Women's & Black rights, Woody Guthrie, Springsteen, Cisco Houston, Bob Dylan, “Hurricane”, “Eve of Destruction”, Barry McGuire, “A Change is Gonna come”, Sam Cooke, “People Get Ready”, Curtis Mayfield, Rod Stewart & Jeff Beck, “Strange Fruit”, Billie Holliday, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, NWA, Public Enemy, Buffalo Springfield / Steve Stills & Neil Young, “I Feel Like I'm fixin' to die Rag”, Country Joe and the Fish, Edwin Starr, Give Peace a Chance, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Aretha Franklin, The Smiths, Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello, Robert Wyatt, The Cranberries, Midnight Oil, Goanna, Warumpi Band, Archie Roach Protest Playlist18,000 sing TotoKiss mass Russian GroupSmells Like Teen Spirit We Will Rick You

Earlier this year, I got an amazing email—the estate of John Lennon said that they have a treasure trove of audio material from his life, and they were wondering if I would be interested in making an episode around the song “God,” from John Lennon's first solo album. I've never tried making a posthumous episode before, because hearing directly from the artist is at the heart of Song Exploder. But with all the interview archives that they have of him speaking, plus all the isolated tracks from the recordings, and the original demo, it actually seemed possible. So this is a very different and special episode of the show. In September 1969, John Lennon told the rest of the Beatles that he was leaving the group. Their breakup was announced publicly in April 1970, and that December, John Lennon released his first solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. The Plastic Ono band was the name for a rotating group of musicians that John and his wife, the artist Yoko Ono, had put together. For the making of “God,” the band included Ringo Starr on drums, Billy Preston on piano, and Klaus Voormann on bass. I got to interview Klaus Voormann about his experiences making this track, and in this episode, you'll hear from him along with the archival interviews with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Billy Preston. You'll also hear the original demo for “God,” and outtakes from the recording sessions at Abbey Road studios. They recorded the final version of this song on October 9, 1970—John Lennon's 30th birthday. Archival audio sources: - John Lennon's audio was excerpted from an interview with Rolling Stone's Jann S. Wenner, recorded on December 8, 1970. The full interview can be found here. With grateful thanks to Jann S. Wenner for his permission and collaboration. - Arthur Janov and Billy Preston's quotes came from interviews conducted in 2005 owned by Yoko Ono Lennon. With grateful thanks to Yoko Ono Lennon for her permission and collaboration. - Ringo Starr's audio came from the 2008 Classic Albums documentary on John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band, directed by Matthew Longfellow. With grateful thanks to Ringo Starr for his permission and collaboration. For more, visit sonexploder.net/john-lennon.

Evripidis and his Tragedies presenta’Nos Volvimos a Encontrar’, quinto y último adelanto de su esperado quinto disco Neos Kosmos.

The Catenary Wires hacen canciones para indies adultos. "Mirrorball" nuevo single de The Catenary Wires. We trace the song’s development all the way from home demo to finished recording, sampling the session tapes and discovering the role both Yoko and Phil Spector played in reaching the final take.

I talk about the experience of being a highly sensitive empath who has been unconsciously (unknowingly) absorbing the emotions of everyone I come in contact. Through the guidance of this society,   I have mistook this sensitive temperament (a gift)  for being dysfunctional, maladaptive, depressed, anxious and all manner of "illness", "disorder", being shuffled in and out of Psychologists most of my adolescent life.  Many empaths struggle with this predicament of literally being a shapeshifter.  We often don't realize how good we are at mimicking (like a chameleon) and mirroring back the emotions of every single person we come in contact with, because you are always feeling their emotions as if they are in your own body and you just want them to feel better so that you can feel better!!! It can feel like being a slave or living in a prison. Especially because of the puritanical foundations of American society that have been brainwashing us into believing that everyone must REPRESS all emotions that aren't militant, docile positivity. So, being the SEER, the intuitive, the one who is the emotional sponge, it can get exhausting and make one believe they are crazy, but what I found is that my intuition was right all along, many people are sad, upset, angry, beneath the surface they just mask it really well and we live in a society where one is rewarded highly for pretending and repressing their true emotions in service of always being happy. My healing process has led me to believe that when you repress so called "ugly" emotions, it gets stored in your body, soul, mind and festers, goes rotten and creates all kinds of blockages, sickness....mental, physical, emotional.  unfortunately we are taught to believe this is normal, therefore we are a chronically sick (mentally and physically) population.  I detail some steps that the empath can take to become free of enmeshment trauma and essentially Stockholm Syndrome where you believe your only worth to the world, is being the shoulder to cry, or your ability to soothe others (being liked by everyone), and you accept your role as emotional punching bag in your family or friends. The process of taking your power back as the one who was previously coddling and agreeing with everyone around you can appear shocking to these people because you are literally a gold medalist Olympic champion at MATCHING vibrations (and you don't even know it) and ALWAYS shrinking your energy to MEET theirs and SOOTHE them.I speak about breaking these subconscious, energetic contracts that we have agreed to as empaths to let everyone take from our energy and having unhindered energetic access to you at all times. As an empath, Highly sensitive souls, your service to this planet is to heal yourself, love yourself first and foremost, so you can then be an example and a leader to others, but you can't give anything to anyone if you are not filling your cup first. You are a warrior who is here to anchor down a brand new energetic frequency (YES, seemingly ALIEN to most people) but PROTECT it at all costs.  You are PRECIOUS!!!!!!"I don't expect you to understand, after you've caused so much pain, but then again, you're not to blame, you're just a human,a victim of the insane."          -Isolation, John Lennon            Plastic Ono Band, album (1970) (Song played at end)Instagram: @peterdagnesTwitter: @thesoberhombreBlog : thesoberhombre.comMy Reflections on 4 Ayahuasca ceremonies with a Shaman (over the course of one week in Peru (the Amazon Jungle) (Youtube) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIFfvL7FdzcYoutube Video- Sedona, Arizona- Interactive Video Tour of Vortexes (Sacred Healing Land)

Working Class Hero" was released on John Lennon's first post-Beatles solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. He set the song to the same folk-blues acoustic guitar pattern Bob Dylan had used for his 1964 song "Ballad of Hollis Brown". of interest is the rhythm of the song; in typical Lennon fashion, the rhythm is quite complex, alternating between 12/8 and 7/8; just try 'counting' along..... John Lennon rehearsed this song with Elephant's Memory for the One to One concert at Madison Square Garden in August, 1972. On the track are: Jim Keltner – drums Wayne 'Tex' Gabriel – lead guitar Gary Van Scyoc – bass guitar John Ward – bass guitar Stan Bronstein – saxophone Adam Ippolito – keyboards Richard Frank Jr. – drums They didn't end up performing the song at the show, making this rehearsal version quite special; I never heard it before, not on John's Anthology set, not even a snippet on the Lost Lennon Tapes. These concerts in New York City were Lennon's only rehearsed and full-length live performances in his solo career, and his first – and last – formal, full-fledged live concerts since the Beatles retired from the road in 1966. Lennon never mounted a tour during his post-Beatles career. The concerts also marked the last time he performed live with Ono, as also with Elephant's Memory. Thanks to Chris Carter of Breakfast with the Beatles for playing this rarity on his April 28, 2013 show. I've re-sequenced and produced the track to make it sound more palpable. Lennon starts out singing quite well, but seems to lose patience halfway through, falling back on shouts and screams to create some excitement. Still, could have ben a haunting perfomance if they had given it more attention and rehearsal time.
