How do you know who you truly are? It's one of life's hardest questions isn't it, and is a quest that can often only be solved with time and perseverance as we explore life's path. This week's lightbulb moment was sparked by Holly's live interview with Levi Roots. Renowned for founding Reggae Reggae Sauce, Levi shares his experience of growing up, not truly knowing who he was or what his purpose might be – and reveals how changing his name, changed the direction of his life. Their conversation really triggered a lightbulb moment for Holly as she began to reflect on who she became throughout her business journey founding notonthehighstreet, and how by focusing on everything other than you, can often mean that you lose your authentic self along the way. Holly shares the hurdles and flaws she has had to overcome, in order to really understand who she is and explains why it's so important to not only know, but also love yourself – especially when you are such a key part of your brand. It certainly hasn't been an easy ride for Holly or Levi, but for anyone feeling a little lost with their identity, this is a moment that we think might just help you on your path to finding happiness – which comes from knowing your true self. As one of ten very special episodes, Holly is also joined by Tash Grossman, founder of Slip and member of Dell's Women's Entrepreneur Network, who has shared her very own Lightbulb Moment, too. This episode was recorded in front of a live audience in Bristol for the second date on our live tour of Conversations of Inspiration, in partnership with NatWest. In this conversation, Holly & Levi discuss his difficult early years, the decision to turn his life around and the passion and determination that powered him to success today, as well as, of course his unforgettable appearance on Dragons Den which would go on to supercharge his brand. Born in Jamaica, he came to the UK at the age of 11, not being able to read or write, and found himself struggling to find his place in Brixton in the 70’s. After stints in prison, Levi turned his life around through his sheer determination and returning to his two true passions in life - music and food, and combining them into a business. His appearance on Dragons Den set his life on a new trajectory, and after gaining investment and mentorship from Peter Jones, Levi's Reggae Reggae sauce went from strength to strength. Since then his life has been a whirlwind of success, expanding his range to include cooking sauces, ready meals, soft drinks and desserts, he has published six cookbooks and a business book, released a new album and most recently, Levi realised his ultimate dream of opening his Caribbean ‘Rasta-rant' in Westfield Stratford. Gary Rhodes in his spiky-haired prime, delicately basting a filet of beef with foaming butter… Nigel Kennedy in an Aston Villa shirt picking out a heartrending melody on his violin… Les Dennis effortlessly controlling a studio audience with wit, good looks, and pure charm… All masters in their respective fields. Operating at the very top of their games. Providing inspiration, inspiring jealousy, moving humankind forward, showing the way. Proving what is possible with God-given talent and almost superhuman dedication. None even come close to James Reginald Colin Ramsden talking about postboxes on this week's TickyOff. None. It's obviously slightly downhill after a start as incredible as this one but music photographer Edu Hawkins steps up and more than holds his own. He provides ample mouth-created sounds about photographing BB King, Gil Scott Heron, Jarvis Cocker, and perhaps less impressively, Ed Sheeran. There's also New Orleans food discussion, the problem with The Foo Fighters and strange toilets in restaurants. Finally, Sam is very anti reckless activity, James reviews Gloria Trattoria, Edu can't burp and they all decide what they'd want to see if they peeled the skin of their faces off. This is TickyOff and if you don't know what you've signed up for, then read the small print ya phony! This week's episode is sponsored by the Levi Roots of wine dropwine.co.uk
Do you want to learn how to be successful? Rob Moore interviews Levi Roots who is the true definition of a Disruptive Entrepreneur. They discuss the key things you need to understand as an entrepreneur and business owner. Discover why having a mentor, believing in yourself and following your dreams are key to success, in business and in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Key things that you need to have or do for you to become successful. Having mentors. Mentorship is the act of having someone who has more experience in what you are doing and have already succeeded coach you on how to do that thing and succeed. With this be sure that you are going to make informed decisions and be sure that you are going to succeed in what you are doing. Mentors will always be there for you and will even advice you on what to do whenever you go wrong. Avoid listening to people who are not helping you achieve your goals. In life, whether you achieve your goals or not, people will always talk, some will talk good about you and others will talk ill about you, the advice here is not to listen to those people who will spread bad rumours about you because if you listen to them, you will never do anything towards achieving your goals and when you are not successful, the same people are the ones who will talk ill of you again. Believe in yourself. When you have an idea in your mind and you want to implement it, do not fear anything and hesitate to implement your idea, that idea could be the one that makes you successful in this life. Trust yourself that you can achieve anything. Know yourself. Find out who you are, find your identity, one that is true, unbelievable and one that you can actually include in a business plan. Produce quality products. The best businessman does not think of the money first, he should first think of how he can create a quality product that will sell all over the world because people always love quality products. By having a quality product, be sure that your product will sell itself and the money will come running to you. Do not fear that you might fail. Failure is always a part of the success and you learn from your own failures or mistakes. When you fail, you learn because next time you cannot repeat the same mistake. Enjoy what you do, make it be your passion. You must do what you are doing with passion because when you have a passion for doing something, you are not forced to do it and you will do it to its perfection. BEST MOMENTS “It isn't about the product, it's more about you.” “Nowadays, kids, there are many opportunities for them but the key thing that they're lacking is that mentorship is that guy that looking like them or having this same vibe like them, but they've done something that they can be inspired by.” “If you are true to your own self, people will spot that.” “It's not about the money but it's all about the quality of your product.” “Failure is your story and it's part of your success.” “Failure is the feedback you get from doing something.” “Be yourself and keep doing what you're doing.” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ ABOUT THE GUEST Keith Valentine Graham, better known as Levi Roots, is a British-Jamaican reggae musician, television personality, celebrity chef and businessman currently residing in Brixton, in south London. On 7 February 2007, Levi Roots appeared on Dragons' Den and convinced Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh to invest £50,000 in return for 40% of his company. The sauce gained fame as a result of his memorable television appearance and on 9 February 2007, Sainsbury's were confirmed to be interested in stocking it. On 7 March 2007, the sauce went on sale nationwide. Levi Roots released an accompanying single of his "Reggae Reggae Sauce Song" which he sang whilst pitching his product on Dragons' Den, and also on Harry Hill's TV Burp. *This was recorded back in December but it's one of my favourites so I wanted to share it with you again for anyone that missed it. Forgive the Christmassey references at the beginning, I hope it doesnt make you feel too discombobulated but Levi is a superstar, and I didnt want you to have missed out by not hearing it. My castaway this week is Levi Roots. Levi was born Keith Valentine Graham in Jamaica. After his parents moved to the UK when he was 4, he was brought up by his grandparents until he eventually moved to Britain at the age of 11. He shot to fame in 2007 by appearing on Dragon’s Den with his famous Reggae Reggae sauce. He wowed the dragon’s and managed to secure a £50,000 investment from Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh. Within 4 weeks his Reggae Reggae sauces were outselling Heinze tomato ketchup in Sainsbury’s and since then his business has gone from strength to strength. He now has so many products ranging from sauces, to snacks, to seasonings and ready meals. He’s written 7 books, released 4 albums and opened a successful restaurant. He does a lot of work with the Prince’s Trust and is a key figure in the Brixton community. We recorded this at Levi’s restaurant in Westfield Stratford so you can hear a little of the hustle and bustle of the restaurant in the background which I kind of like. Levi has a whole host of delicious Desert Island Dishes in his selection and oh my goodness – Levi’s final desert island dish sounds like complete heaven. I love the sound of the porridge his grandmother used to make, and his choice of sandwich was not what I was expecting at all. I think Levi’s story is really inspiring, and he talks so eloquently about his time in prison and how to worked to turn his life around with huge success. I just thought there were so many interesting and inspiring nuggets in there. Hope you enjoyed listening to Levi. Desert Island Dish: Jerk chicken, rice and peas with coleslaw and plantain Luxury item: guitar Don’t forget to check out the website www.desertislanddishes.co to see which recipe has been inspired by Levi’s desert island dishes and I will see you next time for another exciting episode In the meantime come and say hello on Instagram, you can find me @madebymargie.

Sheila Dillon celebrates the power of food to comfort us in hard times, especially during these dark days of the year. Dumplings, marshmallows, chicken soup, fried chicken, curried goat: all the things we long to eat when we're sad, or sick, or homesick. She talks to Antarctic explorers about the food they miss from home, and eating marshmallows at the South Pole; to teenagers in a Fried Chicken shop; to homesick Polish emigres eating proper Polish dumplings, and to a class of eight-year-olds about what their parents cook for them when they're sick. Chef Raymond Blanc goes into an almost mystical trance as he remembers the puddings his mother cooked for him as a child and their trembling caramel; he confesses this is what he craves now when he's sick. Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner reveals the secret of "Jewish penicillin", or chicken soup; Dr Rupy Aujla reflects on what you might call the culinary placebo effect; and Reggae singer Levi Roots explains about the consoling power of curried goat. Not forgetting Jill Archer's famous flapjacks - the Food Programme presents a comfort feast for February! Presenter: Sheila Dillon Producer: Elizabeth burke.
"When you really get far away from a problem, whether it's physically or mentally, you can see things really clearly. It just occured to me that I was bashing my head against this wall. The doors just weren't opening. I was trying to do this law thing and actually, I wanted to spend my life doing what I enjoyed the most, which was cooking. And I kind of in that instant made a decision that I wanted to do something in food, and I didn't know exactly what it was going to be. I didn't know if I wanted to be a chef or a writer or whatever. But it didn't really matter, it was making that decision to do the thing that I loved the most." On today's show I speak to Margie Broadhead, professional chef, cookery writer, podcast host of 'Desert Island Dishes' and writer of the 'Made by Margie' blog. Not only has Margie cooked for some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, but she has also interviewed some of the biggest names in the food industry for her podcast, inclusing Levi Roots to name but one. On 'Desert Island Dishes' margie talks to her guests about their life with food and this goes through choosing their favourite childhood dishes, the dishes they eat most often, the ones that mean the most to them and what their last dish would be before being cast off to the desert island. I started by asking Margie about a quote from her blog: "Life is sometimes a pot noodle. Life isn't a perfectly styled photo that you see on Instagram feeds." Let's StartUp!
The sudden proliferation of porridge is there for all to see, across the country. Café chains like Pret, Starbucks, McDonalds; instant tubs on offer in your local supermarket; on the train, even. Sheila Dillon explores the current fashion for porridge, and meets the "porridge pioneers" who have ridden the sticky porridge wave and created booming porridge businesses. She eats breakfast with Alex Healy Hutchinson, founder of the Covent Garden porridge restaurant 26 Grains; she tours the Edinburgh factory of Stoats Oats, a business which started from a mobile porridge van at rock festivals and is now on track for a turnover of £10 million. She hears from contestants from all over the world at this year's Golden Spurtle International Porridge Championship, and she talks to the Harvard scientist who published the largest study about the health benefits of porridge. (Yes it certainly is good for you.) Finally, back in her kitchen Sheila convenes her own porridge championship with Jamaican chef Levi Roots, Scandinavian chef Trine Hahnemann and Scottish chef Shirley Spear. Whose porridge will taste best? And which Bob Marley song has a verse about cooking porridge?
This week's show was a very busy one, starting off with the one and only Levi Roots joining Ian in the studio to promote his Christmas track 'Reggae Reggae Christmas', followed by Andrew Polec and Christina Bennington from Bat Out of Hell The Musical on the phone after their recent Evening Standard Award win. Finally, Jennifer Kirby popped in to talk all about Call The Midwife, and her eyes.

This week’s show was a very busy one, starting off with the one and only Levi Roots joining Ian in the studio to promote his Christmas track 'Reggae Reggae Christmas', followed by Andrew Polec and Christina Bennington from Bat Out of Hell The Musical on the phone after their recent Evening Standard Award win. Finally, Jennifer Kirby popped in to talk all about Call The Midwife, and her eyes.
Margie’s castaway this week is Levi Roots.

The song this week is one of the several I wrote for Penny Page and her singing duck Googi....after the success of "Googi The Liverpool Duck" I came up with quite a few ideas for her...this being one of them....this was the demo I did originally "I'd Like To Be A Cowboy".....I changed to title to "cowGIRL" for the record she made....as Googi is a girl.......... The outcry over the publishing of the BBC salaries has slowly come to a halt...with of course no follow up....the BBC obviously don't see anything wrong with paying Chris Evans over two million pounds for his "talent"...the fact that this is the equivalent of 80 nurses salaries would seem to be O.K.....and of course the women are moaning because they don't get the same as the blokes...when Tess Daley pulls in 350 grand a year for doing nothing...and not doing it very well...I think it's time to give us all a refund on our licence fee.....we are told there is no money for firemen and police men yet a brave newsreader can get a small fortune. There was a young lady on a phone in and she was asked whether she watches Love Island...and she said she can't stand reality shows and rarely watches TV because there is nothing worth watching...she watches YouTube...and she is 21...I think the future of television has a major problem. The scientists have been at it again....they have "proved" after much research that walking your dog is good for you....because you get exercise.....well what do you know...exercise is good for you...wow.......these "scientists" probably get BBC salaries for discovering this information..........also since our wonderful government brought out the law banning smoking in cars where there are children there has been ONE prosecution nationwide...so that's really working well....what these so called law makers don't seem to grasp is enforcement of these stupid laws is virtually impossible as the empty headed offenders totally disregard being told what to do....maybe they should try it themselves before coming up with this stuff.....instead of leaving others to get on with it. I saw an article on Facebook featuring a picture of Vinnie Jones with a shotgun standing over 100 dead foxes laid out in a big square which he was proud to announce he had shot.....if this is true I don't think it'll do "tough guy" Vinnie a lot of good....I can't stand him anyway....I'll watch this space......I just don't get what people get out of killing animals for no reason....it must boost their egos. As you know I am not a fan of people making records who don't belong on them...footballers..actors etc....but what I just do not get is the likes of these so called celebs releasing albums of their favourite songs by the original artists...Levi Roots for example has an album "out" of his favourite reggae songs....what is the point?....and I suppose he'll actually make money from it?....what ever happened to talent....you certainly don't need it these days...................on a lighter note my golfing pal has a mate who went to school with Daniel Craig who is from Hoylake....he says that Daniel never played any sport in school and used to come round to his house for tea....he then comes up with the classic remark...."Now here's me a concrete sprayer...and HE'S JAMES BOND!!!!"....priceless.
