Rachel spoke with Lilah Sturges, an incredibly talented writer, as she shares her unique lens to the evolving comic book industry. Listen as Lilah opens up about her journey with the popular series, Lumberjanes, and the hurdles she's faced as a transgender woman in conservative Texas. We celebrate the increased representation of women, non-binary, and queer individuals in comics and how it's shaping the industry. She also shares her experiences collaborating with brilliant people and the importance of telling powerful stories where the characters are from typically marginalized groups so that readers know that they're okay, allowed to be who they are, allowed to be confused sometimes and that they're worthy of love and friendship. In Episode 2 of Out To Get You we are joined by writer @lilahsturges to ring in the summer and tackle one of film's most notorious depictions of trans bodies on film, Robert Hiltzik's controversial summer slasher, Sleepaway Camp! Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of transphobia, forced transitions, sexual assault and rape culture, homophobia, ableism, maladaptive age gaps, child predators, and other topics that may be sensitive for listeners. In this episode, we dredge up the bloodiest holiday season at Camp Arawak and examine the mangled history of trans representation in film through the lens of the violent social structures, arcane puberty rituals, and the meat grinder that is coming of age in 1983's infamous cult classic, starring Felissa Rose, Jonathan Tiersten, and Christopher Collet!Follow Lilah on Twitter, and check out her new graphic novel with El Garing, The Science of Ghosts, coming soon to a bookstore near you! New week, new episode! This time, Darci has decided to have the CDB Crew journey to the magical world of Koretris and cover the YA comic, Girl Haven. It's a fun and emotional ride for the most part and every member of the CDB Crew makes it home safely. In news, the group covers the Webtoon and DC Comics collaboration and Brian Michael Bendis's move to Dark Horse Comics. For the week's discussion, the hosts dive into the speculation market and talk about the pros and (mostly) cons of that corner of the comic book collectors market. Other books covered on this episode: Piece by Piece: The Story of Nisrin's Hijab by Priya Huq and Killer Queens #1 by David Booher, Claudia Balboni, Henry Saxon, and Lucas Gattoni (Dark Horse) Comics Deserve Better is a weekly podcast hosted by Brian, Carrie and Darci which covers the world of Independent Comics. For a list of episodes, socials and emails, and to request a topic for a future episode please visit comicsdeservebetter.wordpress.com. (Episode Artwork by Meghan Carter)

Lilah Sturges, comic book writer and founder of the TransPizza giveaway campaign on Twitter, joins Dawn and Karleigh this week. While she readily admits she's not a sports fan or an athlete, Lilah is well-known for her work on the popular Lumberjanes series. Surprisingly, she wasn't a fan of comics growing up. Lilah also explains how she started TransPizza, how it works and how it's expanding in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Plus we share our thoughts on Star Trek: Picard and respond to listener mail! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In this episode, I talk to comic writer Lilah Sturges about her work on Lumberjanes: The Shape of Friendship. Lumberjanes is a youth-oriented series that follows the adventures of a group of girls at a summer camp. It's known for its positive outlook and inclusivity, as well as its creative introduction of educational content. My conversation with Lilah touches on writing for a younger audience, including educational content in ways that feel organic and entertaining, and how stories can help kids develop and solve problems they encounter in their lives. Special Guest: Lilah Sturges.

DCOCD is the DC Comics EVENT PODCAST where we discuss, contextualise and rank every single DC event in order starting with 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths up to... we're not sure yet. DC continued on the rocky road to Final Crisis with a 7 issue side event of the pre-event to 2008’s main event. Anyway it’s time to look at 2007’s SALVATION RUN from Bill Willingham, Lilah Sturges, Sean Chen, Waldon Wong, Wayne Faucher, Joe Bennett, Joe Corroney, Neal Adams (variant cover), Steve Wands, Ken Lopez, John Kalisz, Thomas Chu and Joey Cavalieri. See what happens when the villains of the DC universe get exiled to a planet that is engineered to kill them. Will the Joker kill Lex Luthor (ah, no)? Paul is joined by Sean Ross and Diabolu Frank to do hard time and plan an escape. If you have thoughts, opinions, encouragement or issues, please feel free to contact us via right here or at DCOCDCast@gmail.com and on twitter @DCOCDCast KEEP ON EVENTING!
This week is about friendship and magic! Hear us talk to writer Lilah Sturges about the upcoming release of the original graphic novel The Magicians: Alice's Story from Boom! Studios. We also talk about the 5th anniversary of the Lumberjanes, representation in comics and so much more! Get The Magicians: Alice's Story on July 10th. You can also hear our SPOILER FILLED review of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first issue of DC's Lois Lane solo comic book series and our thoughts on The Walking Dead coming to an end. We also geek out about the return of Wynonna Earp and drop some early SDCC 2019 info. For more on this week's show, and past weeks, go to www.downandnerdypodcast.com
