No musician is more closely associated with London or left more footprints than Bowie, and you can trace its influence on his life and work (and vice versa) through a series of landmarks from the suburbs to the centre. Author and curator Paul Gorman has just published an annotated street-map – David Bowie's London - listing the places that played a formative role in his world and music, the places he rehearsed, performed, filmed and recorded, the homes of friends and managers, his schools and the addresses where he lived, worked and was photographed, made connections, bought clothes and generally raised the temperature. We talk here about many of those old haunts and the stories attached to them, which include… … mysterious manager Ralph Horton who got him to change his name to Bowie and then vanished from the face of the earth. … the fate of Heddon Street, home of K-West and the Ziggy phone-box. … Marc Bolan refusing to let him sing at an all-night benefit at Middle Earth. … “the Fairy Godmother of the New Romantics” at the WAG Club. … when Lionel Bart came to Haddon Hall. … Bowie and Steve Marriott auditioning for the Lower Third. … how he levered his way into a Fabulous magazine fashion shoot. … “the end of the age of Showbiz”: performing Chim Chim Cher-ee at the Marquee when at a crossroads between rock and roll and cabaret. … the magical piano at the Trident Studios. … a chance encounter with the otherworldly Vince Taylor whose ‘UFO map' helped inspire the concept of Ziggy Stardust. … the legend of Mr Fish, creator of the man-dress on the cover of The Man Who Sold The World. … the days when people had a white Rolls Royce and matching Alsatian – and “the Great Sarong Scare of the ‘90s”. … and various fringe figures including his art teacher Owen Frampton, Konrads agents Bob Knight and Eric Easton, muse and heartbreaker Hermione Farthingale, producers Shel Talmy and Tony Hatch (“the original Mr Nasty from Opportunity Knocks”) and slum landlord and racketeer Peter Rackman. Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking! In case you hadn't noticed, we love a good cover version! This episode, we're looking at covers - staples, covers from strange sources, and some songs that have had a LOT of covers, including a bunch of covers of Bowie's “Heroes”. Our Album You Must Hear before You Die is “Is This It?” by The Strokes. This punk/Britpop-influenced album got rave reviews on release in 2001 from Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and New Musical Express. We're not convinced. In Knockin' on Heaven's Door, we mourn the loss of Wayne Osmond (of the Osmond Brothers), Chad Morgan, the Aussie country great, and Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary. We hope they get to sing a rousing chorus of “Puff the Magic Dragon together. As usual, there's heaps of fun. Enjoy!! Limited 48 page souvenir photobook by rock n' rollin' author/artist/photographer/journalist/bon vivant John Mendelssohn, who was tapped to meet up with an unknown longhair from London named David Bowie on his first trip to the US on a press junket for the just-released Mercury album The Man Who Sold The World. John met up with DB in San Franscisco with his camera in tow, and started snappin and yappin. This book includes John's original story from Rolling Stone, his revelations and jubilations on (and of) the topic of DB, plus we have Paul Gorman writing brilliantly about the origin and influence of the man-dress, as created by bespoke tailor Mr. Fish of London... and we have the photos, one roll of film that captured both Mr Fish man-dresses-- the luxe, flowing, floral that appeared on the UK cover of The Man Who Sold The World and the sublime blue-gray raw silk number that graced a special edition collection, presented in a newspaperly dot screen reminiscent of the Rolling Stone print methods of the day.

The Man Who Sold The World. In this episode, we discuss what attachment to things rather than Christ gets us while reading George Macdonald's Unspoken Sermons. The conversation leads us through the topics of higher and lower things, bread-making, willing and wanting, God-gifted vocations, and how to properly end a sermon. As far as album artists that dominated the album era, the late great David Bowie is among the all-timers. From 1969 to 1980 he put out 13 albums, all of which had the critics blown away and audiences and the music listening public clamoring for more. And Bowie gave them more, continuing to put out mind-bending material all the way until his untimely death in 2016. Gabe Scalone is an ATTT favorite for many reasons, among them he tends to nerd out to the extreme, just like the best of us. Ben and Gabe both listened to David Bowie's entire catalog in preparation for TOP TEN DAVID BOWIE ALBUMS and we think we've put together a damn fine playlist highlighting songs from David's many masterpieces. Who knows? We do. This week the Infectious Groove Podcast returns to it's popular Totally Epic Cover Battle series and boy do we have a good one. Seth from Treble Treble podcast joins us to work through a battle featuring two artists that he loves: David Bowie and Nirvana.First released in 1970, the song "Man Who Sold The World" went on to become an enourmous hit for Nirvana when it was released in 1994 on their "Unplugged In New York" album. Our task this week was to take a listen to both versions, talk through the difference and pick which one we think is better. The Man Who Sold The World".

For nearly five decades David Bowie helped define our universe through his music. Established in 2004, Toronto, Canada based Life on Mars (LoM) presents the genius of Bowie across the decades. Maintaining the integrity of the music, note for note, LoM presents a two hour retrospect, a musical reinvention of classic Bowie hits; uniquely arranged into a soaring, emotional, musical, concert experience of astonishing nuance and power. Life on Mars is not an imitation of Bowie but an emulation of his music and a celebration of his spirit. Tony Visconti is a 3-time Grammy winner and one of the most acclaimed producers in the history of Rock & Roll. Among his seminal productions are "Get It On (Bang A Gong)," from one of 10 albums he produced for T. Rex, as well as legendary albums for Badfinger, Iggy Pop, Thin Lizzy, the Boomtown Rats, The Moody Blues, and Morrissey. Most notably, though, Tony produced 14 albums for David Bowie, with whom he worked for over 45 years. Those albums, including The Man Who Sold The World, Young Americans, Low, “Heroes”, Lodger and Blackstar have helped to define the course of contemporary music. 01 - BLACKSTAR (2016) 03 - BEST OF BOWIE (2002) 05 - NOTHING HAS CHANGED - THE VERY BEST OF DAVID BOWIE (2014) 09 - HUNKY DORY (1971) 10 - THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST (1972) 20 - ALADDIN SANE (1973) 27 - LOW (1977) 28 - "HEROES" (1977) 30 - DIAMOND DOGS (1975) 31 - THE NEXT DAY (2013) 32 - STATION TO STATION (1976) 36 - SCARY MONSTERS (1980) 42 - LET'S DANCE (1983) 43 - YOUNG AMERICANS (1975) 52 - THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD (1970) 63 - PIN UPS (1973) 66 - LODGER (1979) 79 - SPACE ODDITY (1969) Í þessum öðrum þætti af þremur skoðum við tímabilið frá 1973 til 1987 í lífi Bowie, en á þessum árum var Bowie allt í senn; tilraunaglöð fyrirmynd, unglinga-ídol og rokkstjarna. Space Oddity 1969, The Man who Sold the World, Low, Heroes, Lodger, Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, Young Americans og líka á Black Star og plötunum þremur þar á undan. Mike Garson píanóleikari Bowie´s allar götur frá 1973 og þar til hann steig síðasta á svið verður á línunni í þættinum og talar um tímana þegar hann var með Bowie í Philadelphia að taka upp Young Americans og um Diamond Dogs túrinn ofl. Svana Gísladóttir sem býr í London og gerði myndböndin við lögin Black Star og Lazarus með Bowie stuttu áður en hann lést kemur líka við sögu, og eins Ragnheiður Hanson sem féll 13 ára gömul fyrir manninum og söngvaranum og stóð síðar að hans einu heimsókn til Íslands ? tónleikunum í Laugardalshöll 1996. Björn Jörundur úr NýDönsk segir frá í þættinum, en hann jeillaðist 8 ára gamall af David Bowie og það eina sem hann óskaði sér í afmælishjöf þegar hann var 9 ára var nýja platan frá David Bowie - platan Lodger.
