In this episode of Derms and Conditions, host James Q. Del Rosso, DO, and guests Michael Cameron, MD, and James Allred, MD, discuss the intersection of GLP-1 agents and dermatology, exploring how these drugs, initially designed for managing type 2 diabetes, are now offering promising benefits for skin conditions associated with obesity. They begin by providing an overview of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agents and their mechanisms of action. These drugs, which include terzepitide (marketed as Mounjaro and Zepbound) and semaglutide (available as Ozempic and Wegovy), are GLP-1 receptor agonists that enhance insulin secretion, reduce appetite, and promote weight loss. Dr Allred then shares his personal experience, noting that patients on GLP-1 therapy, prescribed by their primary care physicians, showed remarkable improvements in their hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) symptoms. Observing these benefits, he began prescribing GLP-1 agents himself. Although randomized controlled trials directly linking GLP-1 agents to HS improvement are lacking, clinical observations align with the understanding that obesity-related systemic inflammation impacts dermatologic conditions like HS and psoriasis. The conversation then shifts to discussing weight management with patients. They stress the importance of empathy and understanding, particularly for patients with HS who may find exercise counterproductive due to flare-ups. By explaining that reducing systemic inflammation through weight loss can significantly improve HS symptoms, they find patients more receptive to GLP-1 therapy. Finally, they cover the practical aspects of integrating GLP-1 prescribing into dermatologic practice. Drs Allred and Cameron advise on patient assessment, including checking BMI and potential contraindications like a history of thyroid cancer. They highlight the importance of monitoring basic labs, such as glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and lipid profiles, to track the therapy's impact and support insurance approvals. Tune in to learn how dermatologists can leverage GLP-1 agents to improve patient outcomes by addressing the inflammatory underpinnings of conditions like HS and enhancing overall quality of life.

For Augustine of Hippo (354-430), Christian teachers who surrender self in loving humility for the sake of their hearers capture a core dimension of the faith that they teach. The same humility that Christ models, that Scripture communicates, and that seekers germinate as they come to be taught, teachers also share in. In this public lecture, renowned Augustine scholar Dr. Michael Cameron explores the pedagogical dynamics of humility in Augustine's great treatise, De catechizandis rudibus (On the Instruction of Beginners), showing it to be the treatise's hidden crux, in two senses: both as a central theme of Christian teaching, and, paradoxically and counterintuitively, as the mainspring of the teaching act. This lecture was co-hosted with the Religion and Philosophy Department at Hillsdale College on October 9, 2023.

I'm Richard Stiller, a community manager at the SCA, and you're listening to the SCA Podcast. This week, the SCA Podcast is taking a quick break while we put the finishing touches on an upcoming lecture series recorded at last year's World of Coffee event in Berlin. In the meantime, I'd like you to meet Recap. It's our newest podcast! Every two weeks, Recap offers a brief overview of recent coffee developments in less than five minutes. Welcome to Recap, a new podcast from the Specialty Coffee Association offering a brief overview of recent coffee developments every two weeks. The monthly materials science journal, Matter, just published a study suggesting a new mathematical model for repeatable espresso extraction. Focused on the computational and physical attributes of espresso, the authors suggest that, if widely implemented, the protocol outlined in the study could significantly reduce coffee waste. Remarkably, the study was co-authored by Brisbane baristas Michael Cameron and Deschen Morisco, who tested the techniques of the study in a coffee shop. This study has already received significant attention from popular media outlets in the US and Australia. The study's co-author, the computational chemist Christopher Hendon, will present the work at the SCA's Specialty Coffee Expo in Portland this April. Meanwhile, across the Pacific in the Philippines, the Taal volcano has erupted, covering coffee trees in thick volcanic ash. The ash causes the leaves of coffee trees to wither, effectively starving them of energy which in turn reduces their ability to mature fruit. To assist, the Philippines' Department of Agriculture distributed water power sprayers to help remove the ash. It's not a perfect solution: the intense spray sometimes removes flowers and nearly-mature coffee cherries. Although Taal's eruption has caused considerable damage to many high-value crops in the area, coffee is reported to be the most affected. This will be a difficult harvest year for the affected Phillipino farmers, so the Department of Agriculture is also offering up to the equivalent of a million US dollars to affected farmers through a combination of cash aid and zero-interest loans. The effects of the eruption are likely to impact the country's recent growth in specialty coffee production. A long-time producer of coffee, this is not the first time the Philippines' coffee production has been decimated by environmental changes: a widespread influx of coffee rust at the turn of the twentieth century led local farmers to favor Robusta, Liberica, and Excelsa. A recent feature in the New York Times explores a culture-shift in Saudi Arabia through the lens of coffee shops. In December, the government announced it would no longer require businesses to segregate their customers by gender. Since the law passed, some specialty coffee shops already pursuing a more inclusive vision can now continue to do so without fearing a visit from the country's law enforcement. Reports suggest Saudi Arabia is the Middle-East's fastest-growing coffee market and, in December 2019, the country held its first-ever sanctioned national barista championship. Ahmed Bahaa of Camel Step Coffee Roasters will fly to Melbourne, Australia to represent Saudi Arabia for the first time at the World Barista Championships in May. Fresh Bread: Your Kingdom Come (1-18) - by Raymond McCullough
Episode 25 in the series: The good news of the kingdom will be preached to every tribe, language, people and nation. The Middle East will explode into war once again. The Arabs and other Muslim nations will attack Israel, but will be wiped out. They will become like chaff, dust and tumbleweed before a gale! More of the ten tribe nations will make aliyah to Israel – the trickle becoming a flood, a 2nd Exodus! Israel will gain the territory of their enemies, but also the enmity of the world, including the USA. Anti-semitism and opposition towards aliyah to Israel will greatly increase in the USA. Jews may have to go underground to escape America! America will be destroyed by fire in one hour! Survivors will return to their own lands, the Jews and Israelites to newly expanded Israel. The ‘heart of stone’ will be removed from Israel and they will recognise their Messiah. The man known as the ‘beast’ will be revealed and be given power by the world’s remaining ten most powerful nations. He will make a covenant allowing Israel to begin sacrifices in a newly built temple in Jerusalem. He will halt the sacrifices after 3 1/2 years, seek to persecute Israel and vent his wrath on the rest of Messiah’s followers. He will cause the whole world to receive a mark on the right hand or forehead; otherwise they cannot buy or sell. The wrath of God will be poured out as severe plagues upon all those who have received the mark, but they will not repent of their evil deeds. The armies of all nations will assemble in Israel to destroy Jerusalem. Messiah will return with all those who love him resurrected and caught up to meet him in the clouds as he descends to the Mount of Olives, in Jerusalem. He will destroy the Anti-Christ and all the armies of the nations and set up his kingdom, ruling the nations from Jerusalem ‘with a rod of iron.’ His followers will reign with him after the ‘Marriage Feast of the Lamb’ and his Award Ceremony – ruling over the cities of the nations. Each nation will come up every year to worship in Jerusalem at the Feast of Tabernacles. At the end of 1,000 years of Messiah’s rule, Satan will be loosed and will deceive the nations once again into attacking Jerusalem, but fire will come down from heaven and destroy them. The earth will melt away, the rest of the dead will be raised and the Great White Throne judgement will take place. Those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire, along with Satan. The new heaven and new earth will be created and the saints will live there with the Lord forever. -------------------- with music from: Space Odic Samurai (England, UK) – 'Fiddlefingers, (The Eye); Michael Cameron and Frontline (Northern Ireland, UK) – 'Only Have to Close My Eyes', (Hard on Your Heels); Dawn and Margie Beaton (Nova Scotia, Canada) – 'Sir James', (Taste of Gaelic). Welcome to a special podcast from the Australian Brews News team. Thanks to Bintani, we ran a live broadcast of the last two hours of the GABS Hottest 100 craft beers of 2017. We broadcast live from Balter, who ended up being named #1 in the poll. We chose Balter early in the voting process, well before the results were known, which turned out well for the show. While we managed to keep the show pretty on track despite a number of planned and unplanned guests dropping by the studio, good order was lost a little towards the end once the winner had been announced. We were very surprised to have Mick Fanning and then Joel Parkinson drop by to join us, Joel having raced in having left a wedding to celebrate with the team at Balter. Despite a few occasional rough edges, the podcast does capture the excitement of the countdown, the surprise as the results were announced and also how important the GABS Hottest 100 has come to be to the Australian beer industry. Don't let any brewer try and tell you that they don't care about the results. We would like to thank Balter for their generosity in making the boardroom available, and for the time they gave us especially as it became clear that we were in for an exciting finish. We'd also like to thank our co-hosts Kerry Claydon and Steve ‘Hendo' Henderson for joining us for the broadcast. Thanks also to our guests: Balter's Scott Hargrave, who - as you will hear - was so generous with his time we had to shoo out the door so he could actually celebrate the result rather than be stuck in the studio Stone & Wood's Jamie Cook who happened to be on the coast and made the effort to join us in the studio and happened to be there as the final results were announced. Pirate Life's Michael Cameron who joined us from a very hot carpark in South Australia Feral's Brendan Varis who called in from WA Dave Padden who accepted our call while he was pulled over on a highway. And also to Steve Jeffares, one of the founder of the Hottest 100 and the GABS Festival and Phil Meddings from Bintani, both of whom had their interviews put on hold as we were happily gatecrashed by a couple of excited world champion surfers. Finally, thank you to Bintani - who will bring the right ingredients to your brewery, just as they do with Balter - for sponsoring the show. We genuinely could not have done it without them.

This week we catch up with Michael 'MC' Cameron, founder of Pirate Life Brewing. Pirate Life has just celebrated its second birthday and continues to kick goals on the national beer market. We chat to Michael about the brewery's approach, why packaged beer is 80 per cent of their sales, why they are focusing on the regions, outgrowing their first brewery and their plans to expand and plenty more about the state of the market. Michael Cameron & Pirate Life: Hospitality and beer veteran Michael Cameron took on the role of CEO at Pirate Life Brewery after it was established by his son, Jack Cameron, and his friend Red (Jared) Proudfoot. The pair met in Aberdeenshire while they were working as brewers for BrewDog before deciding to return to back to Australia to start their own brewery. Michael soon took the reins of the business operations to raise finances and gain traction for Pirate Life's now infamous brews.

Father, business owner, and endurance athlete, Michael Cameron lives his life by the three tenets of Passion, Pride, and Purpose. In October of 2015 however, Michael’s world was shattered by an unimaginable act of violence. In this emotional episode, Michael talks about “redefining badass” and the power and importance of forgiveness in life and leadership.
Meet German Villegas, a youth worker who conducts interviews about healthy masculinity on The Modern Manhood Podcast and jaws about hockey with his buddies on Your Team Sucks. German has been interested in podcasting for awhile, and had a music one that didn't go anywhere. Hockey turned out to be more fruitful terrain for a lively debate, hence Your Team Sucks, where fans of three different teams chirp each other and discuss various hockey-related happenings. That's where I first became aware of German. Your Team Sucks is fun, but it's clear that German's deeper passion lies in The Modern Manhood Podcast, which he started this year to initiate conversations between men about being men. In the course of his work, German has observed that men often have trouble talking about their vulnerabilities, and he wanted to create a safe and empathetic space to do so. The podcast is affiliated with Men Edmonton, a movement to empower men to speak out against violence and to take on positive roles. It is most certainly not affiliated with "men's rights activists." The Modern Manhood Podcast is a feminism-friendly place. German made these interesting recommendations: Michael Cameron's blog at passionpridepurpose.com; YEG People, especially the one with Blake Loates and her We All Believe In You project Linda Hoang's food and lifestyle blog at linda-hoang.com Megan McCormick's Mastering Health The Modern Manhood Podcast is on iTunes, on Facebook, and on Twitter (@modernmanpod). It also has a GoFundMe campaign to help German further his work. Your Team Sucks is on iTunes, on Facebook, and on Twitter (@ytsshow). German himself is on Twitter, too: @germanNOTgerman. And if you ever get an opportunity to talk to him in real life, do it. He is such a joyful person. This episode was one of several recorded at the Makerspace at the downtown Edmonton Public Library on 100in1Day. Watch for more conversations captured that day in the coming weeks. This week’s Seen and Heard in Edmonton is brought to you by Taproot Edmonton, a new member-supported home for local stories created with the community and not just for it. Mack Male explains the origins of the name and why the stories are free but membership isn't in this episode. If you’d like to help create a new way to sustain how-and-why journalism in our city, join Taproot today. Rooster Radio - Stories & Insights from Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Business, Health, Tech & More
On the surface, Michael Cameron is living every man's dream. He's an owner and CEO of Pirate Life Brewing, an Adelaide craft beer startup that is winning fans all over Australia. Pirate Life has raised significant funding, expanded and acquired a distribution arm, and mostly importantly, they're selling lots of tinnies (beer in cans is back in vogue). But Mick tells Rooster Radio it is not all beer and skittles. There's the huge cost of equipment, cash flow management, thousands of tasting events and doing everything possible to get the Pirate Life name out there. But ultimately the family company, run by Mick, his son Jack and Jack's best mate Red, brings it all back to one key goal - make the beer that they want to drink. It's the Pirate way of doing business on your own terms, and it is key to the team's values. The journeymen have, quite literally, come a long way. Western Australia, the United States, Scotland before finally settling in Adelaide - which Mick says is the perfect location for a craft brewery. HR Happy Hour 245 - Talking about Talent, Culture, and Technology (on the Radio) Recorded Friday, May 6, 2016 Hosts: Steve Boese, Trish McFarlane This week on a fun twist on the HR Happy Hour Show, we are replaying/reposting an appearance Steve made recently on the Win-Win @ Work Radio Show that is broadcast weekly on WSCA FM, 106.1 in Portsmouth New Hampshire, Steve was interviewed by Win-Win @ Work host Kristi Baxter and Michael Cameron, (who are fantastic), and the conversation touched upon innovation in the HR technology marketplace, how technology is helping HR leaders and organizations with talent management, succession planning, and career development, and finally, on the ongoing debate of hiring for culture fit vs. hiring for raw talent. This was a really fun and interesting conversation, and we thought it would be a great idea to share this interview with the HR Happy Hour Show community as well. Big thanks to Michael and Kristi for having Steve on the Win-Win @ Work show!
Trevor Jones and I have done joint clinics in the past, but this is the first one since restarting the podcast, and I figured that it would make sense to put it out this week since we just released our conversation a few days ago. This talk was held at Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall as part of the 2016 Chicago Bass Festival, which is an event put on by the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory. Michael Cameron of the University of Illinois and Allan Dennis, former double bass professor at the University of Wisconsin and the MYA executive director, were both in the audience, so you’ll hear us refer to both of them a couple of times during the talk. I left Curtis off of my list of schools putting out successful auditions, but of course that should be at the top of the list! My mistake. Some of the questions from the audience are kind of hard to hear, you’ll get the gist of the question as soon as Trevor and I start talking again. We talk about Don Greene’s excellent books on auditioning—all three are highly recommended: Audition Success Performance Success: Performing Your Best Under Pressure Fight Your Fear and Win: Seven Skills for Performing Your Best Under Pressure
This week's episode is a reply of our live countdown of the GABS Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers of 2015, recorded on Australia Day 2016. The recording quality isn't great as we picked up some refrigeration compressor noise as we recorded at Brisbane's Green Beacon Brewery, but the conversation was excellent. Matt is joined by Australian Brews News editor James Atkinson and we cross to Pete Mitcham at The Local Taphouse, St Kilda. During the long show we speak with Michael Cameron from Pirate Life, Corey Crooks from The Grain Store, Jaron Mitchell from 4 Pines, Brendan Varis from Feral Brewing and Ross Jurisich from Stone & Wood. Don't forget to send us your feedback, or leave a voice mail by calling (07) 3040 1508, that we'll play on our next show. Radio Brews News is hosted by Matt Kirkegaard and Pete Mitcham and is produced by Lachie Mackintosh. Download the audio or subscribe below.

Michael Cameron, UP Theologian, reads from his book Unfolding Sacred Scripture: How Catholics Read the Bible. In his book, Dr. Cameron presents a distinctively Catholic way of understanding Scripture as an “audible sacrament” – a way that Christ offers himself to us in the form of spoken words. Fresh Bread: Your Kingdom Come (1-18) - by Raymond McCullough
Episode twenty in the series: In the middle of the last seven years the beast, Anti-Christ, will put a stop to the temple sacrifices. After subduing three of the ten rulers who gave him his power he will oppress the saints and change the set times and laws. His army will tramp on the holy city (Jerusalem) for 42 months. The beast will exercise his authority to blaspheme God and to make war against the saints. “There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations,” for “time, times and half a time.” There will be a ‘rapture’ event, being “caught up into the clouds”, but it will NOT be a secret – far from it! The whole earth – “every eye” – will witness it! Our being ‘caught up’ will take place at the last trumpet, AFTER the conclusion of the 1,260 days of the Great Tribulation! -------------------- With music from: Coole Park (Ontario, Canada) – 'Old Hag, You Have Killed Me', ( Water Journeys ); Michael Cameron and Frontline (Northern Ireland, UK) – 'Speak the Name', (Hard on Your Heels); Kaedmon (California, USA) – 'My Love', ( My Love). Seventh in the series. In prophetic word Judah and Israel are inseparable. At one time, for convenience, I tried to separate the Hebrew scriptures referring to the return of Judah from those referring to Israel, (i.e. the 'ten tribes'). It proved to be impossible! Can we identify any of the ten tribes today? Do they have any connection to Israel? -------------------- With music from: Máire Brennan (Co. Dublin, Ireland) – 'Doon Well', (Perfect Time); Michael Cameron and Frontline (Belfast, Northern Ireland) – 'Holy Ground', ( Hard on Your Heels ); Paul & Beulah Shields (Bangor, Co. This week on Contrabass Conversations we bring you an interview with string teacher and double bassist Peter Tambroni. Peter has written a book titled An Introduction to Double Bass Playing, and he has many valuable ideas regarding double bass pedagogy. Arizona bassist Robert Matheson is also featured on this episode. Enjoy! About Peter Peter began playing the double bass at the age of 16 (after playing the clarinet since elementary school) when the director of his high school jazz ensemble asked if anyone would be interested in playing bass. After playing electric bass it was suggested that he learn the string bass and soon after he began orchestral studies. Within a year, he knew he wanted to go into the field of music, and becoming a music teacher was the perfect choice for him. He received his Bachelor's of Music in Music Education from the Crane School of Music in 1996. After that he taught strings in the public schools for grades 4 - 12 in Northern New York and was adjunct faculty for 'cello and double bass at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. In 2000 he graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign with a Master's in Double Bass Performance, studying with Michael Cameron. He is currently a string teacher in suburban Chicago where he teaches string lessons in grades 3 - 8 and conducts the middle school concert and chamber orchestras. He also leads an Irish ensemble and a bass quartet. He performs around the greater Chicago area with many orchestra and rock bands around the city. In 2000, he appeared on the Bozo Super Sunday Show to give a presentation and performance on the double bass. In the spring of 2003 he was the guest soloist for District 212 (playing the Vanhal concerto) and in spring of 2004 he performed at Symphony Center's Orchestra Hall with the Polish American Symphony Orchestra of Chicago. He has attended classes with Michael Hovnanian of the Chicago Symphony, John Chiego, Hal Robinson of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Scott Haigh of the Cleveland Symphony, Stewart Arfman, and Erik Harris. Peter has been published several in American String Teacher as well as websites around the world.
