At 34 years of age, guitarist/songwriter Nili Brosh has lived the life of 10 guitarists.  Since graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2009, Nili has performed with legends in the truest since of the word.  Shrapnel guitar legend Tony MacAlpine, former Nevermore and current Arch Enemy guitarist Jeff Loomis, drummer Marco Minneman, and bassist Stu Hamm just to name a few. Nili has also been a part of Danny Elfman's band, the guitarist for Cirque Du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE, and as part of the cartoon based metal gods, Dethklok.  Obviously, Nili is a VERY busy person and I was lucky enough that she took the time out of her busy schedule to talk to a dreg like myself.  Nili is a kind, funny, and super talented person and I loved talking to her about why sometimes being called a "shredder" can be annoying, how being called a "female guitarist" is also not a term of endearment, and other things.  To check out more on Nili, head to hear website www.nilibrosh.com Enjoy, y'all.

Bob and Lisa host a support group of Esophageal Cancer survivors over for a five-day hangout. The group met on a Zoom chat about a year ago and have gotten close. Bob saw no need to check anyone's pockets on departure. Ever seen any Cirque du Soleil shows? Bob raves about 'Michael Jackson One' and how was a feast for the senses with the incredible surround sound and no-net acrobatics. Which leads to discussing Michael's controversies and how the Vegas show made subtle reference through symbolism. Did MJ kinda get a pass? After talking about the 'KISW 90's reunion' that Joe attended & enjoyed seeing all the old faces.. The guys reminisce about Seattle's grunge heyday in the early 90's and talk about the current state of Seattle; homelessness, drug overdoses, graffiti, garbage and crime. Joe teases he has something in common with Hollywood movie stars, which is the use of the diabetic drug, Ozempic, for weight loss. Hollywood discovered this and started using it off-label, leading to people paying thousands of dollars for it. Joe's unsure of its effectiveness on him due to a high tolerance to drugs - and cuz.. eating - a lifelong habit that's hard to break. BSJ get some tips how to be better podcasters/hosts from an unlikely source.. the importance of accepting compliments graciously and expressing gratitude towards others. They touch on the difficulty of balancing listening and speaking when hosting a show and how this can sometimes cause hosts to come off as insensitive to compliments. We re-spin a great clip o'yesteryear when Lewis Black ( @OfficialLewisBlack / https://www.lewisblack.com ) visited the studio. Black discusses his comedic style, which he describes as being an optimist who is let down by reality every day… his philosophy on socialism, his formal education in drama and Broadway plays.. one he wrote that never made to stage. Joe visits family in Tucson. Southwest living is calling. Listening to the audio on Podcast Service? These are challenging times and we're all being challenged to find a new way to do things, to overcome, and to thrive. With that in mind we bring you someone who has done that his whole life - choreographer, dancer, director, Mr. JJ Villar. Drive and determination brought JJ to the big stage from Bogota, Columbia. He's the holder of two world championship Drum Corp titles, he's worked with Wayne Foster Entertainment (think Gloria Gaynor, Toni Braxton), the Millennium Dance Complex, the Michael Jackson "One" show and Cirque Du Soleil. But away from the bright lights JJ has overcome incredible hardship and through it all is one of the most positive people you could meet. We think it's the perfect time to shine some light in your life with our guest JJ Villar.  Thank you so much for your support. Gretchen Menn, Jennifer Batten and Nili Brosh join us to talk about joining forces for what will be an amazing run of shows. We also cover upcoming solo work, the benefits of study, the changing landscape for female guitarists, current gear choices and much more. This was a super fun conversation with three incredible musicians. And Elvis the dog. Jennifer Batten has not only performed with megastars such as Michael Jackson and Jeff Beck, she was also a ground-breaking advocate, virtuoso, and teacher of two-handed tapping as a guitar technique. Batten’s ongoing commitment to innovation drove her recent creation of a solo multimedia show that deploys her own video productions to augment and expand her musical compositions. Her latest release is BattleZone by Scherer/Batten. As a member of America’s popular, all-female Led Zeppelin powerhouse, Zepparella, Gretchen Menn is one of the foremost disciples of the Jimmy Page guitar style. But Menn is also an adventurous composer who has integrated Gypsy jazz, prog, metal, and classical into her own music and guitar playing. In fact, she resolutely studied orchestration for five years before completing her 2016 solo album, Abandon All Hope—a triumphant musical adaptation of Dante’s Inferno. Nili Brosh was a member of Tony MacAlpine’s band, opened for Yngwie Malmsteen during his 2013 USA tour, and was the lead guitarist in Cirque du Soleil’s production of Michael Jackson ONE. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music—who went on to become one of the school’s youngest faculty members—Brosh’s most recent album is 2014’s A Matter of Perception, with a new record slated for release in December 2019.   Episode #119 Links   Jennifer Batten Nili Brosh Gretchen Menn Gretchen Menn : Guitar Speak Podcast Episode 18  Episode 48 Michael Dolce 2019 Masterclass Tour   Guitar Speak Podcast Links Visit us at guitarspeakpodcast.com Subscribe and find previous episodes at: Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher   Follow us on Facebook & Instagram Join our Guitar Speak Forum Buy a T-Shirt! From touring her own brand of virtuoso prog-metal to delivering guitar pyrotechnics (sometimes literally!) in her role as the mesmerizing guitar goddess who lights up the stage of Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil, Israeli-American guitar badass NILI BROSH always finds exciting gigs. I was thrilled to sit down with her in Las Vegas in the lobby of the Michael Jackson One theater at Mandalay Bay before the show to talk shop, trade licks, hear about her new life as Cirque du Soleil's stunt guitarist, and learn how she self-produced her amazing sophomore album, A Matter of Perception. EXTRA: The sad news of Malcolm Young's passing hit the the music world today, so, at the end of the episode, I share a tribute to the powerhouse AC/DC strummer, one of the greatest rockers of all time. RIP Malcolm! Thanks for listening! — JUDE GOLD, host and creator of No Guitar Is Safe podcast.
