Le mosse cinesi contro Donald Trump. La Cina risponde ai dazi commerciali di Donald Trump con alcune mosse strategiche che tendono a salvaguardare il suo mercato e quello dei suoi partner. Le ultime in ordine di tempo sono il blocco delle esportazioni di terre rare dalla Cina e l'attivismo del presidente cinese Xi Jinping, che ha avviato ad Hanoi, in Vietnam, un tour del Sud Est Asiatico che mira a solidificare ampiezza e profondità della sfera d'influenza di Pechino. In particolare, l'offensiva sulle terre rare è la più sofisticata delle reazioni cinesi alle tariffe decise da Trump. Nella visione di Pechino, rispondere ai dazi con altri dazi è servito a rifiutare la posizione di subalternità a cui Trump vorrebbe costringere ogni sua controparte negoziale, ma sono le nuove regole per esportare 7 dei 17 elementi “rari” della tavola periodica, centrali in così tante produzioni ad alto contenuto tecnologico, che sono destinate a fare più male. La lista dei prodotti cinesi soggetti a restrizioni dell'export. Le spedizioni di samario, gadolinio, terbio, disprosio, lutezio, scandio, ittrio e dei magneti permanenti che incorporano alcuni di loro sono di fatto bloccate e nessuno si azzarda a fare previsioni sui tempi per ottenere una licenza per l'esportazione. Anche se bastassero poche settimane, gli stock disponibili al di fuori della Cina si ridurrebbero sensibilmente. Non tanto in Giappone, dove un precedente blocco mirato all'export deciso da Pechino ha consigliato prudenza negli stoccaggi, quanto negli Stati Uniti dove le scorte a magazzino sono storicamente più risicate. Le limitazioni all'export si faranno sentire non solo perché la Cina ha di fatto il monopolio della raffinazione di questi elementi, ma anche perché produce il 90% dei magneti che li utilizzano e che sono indispensabili nella produzione di motori elettrici. Proprio in previsione delle temute difficoltà negli approvvigionamenti, a marzo le esportazioni di terre rare dalla Cina sono aumentate del 20,31% a oltre 5.666 tonnellate, mostrando in forma amplificata un fenomeno osservato in diverse altre categorie merceologiche. Complessivamente il mese scorso le esportazioni cinesi sono aumentate del 12,4%, in larga misura perché gli importatori hanno chiesto di anticipare le spedizioni in vista dei dazi. Di queste mosse cinesi Trump dovrà tenere conto se non vuole che i suoi dazi contro il Dragone si trasformino in un clamoroso boomerang. La guerra dei dazi entra nel vivo e manda a tappeto i mercati europei. La risposta cinese alle tariffe imposte da Donald Trump - con sovrattasse del 34% su tutti i beni Usa - ha infatti alzato la temperatura dello scontro commerciale. Ad acuire i timori di escalation c'è poi il fatto che il presidente americano non è arrivato alcun passo indietro («le mie politiche non cambieranno mai», ha scritto sul social Truth), nemmeno dopo la seconda giornata di forti cali registrata a Wall Street. Così, le Borse del Vecchio Continente, non solo non recuperano le forti perdite della vigilia, ma segnano tutte perdite attorno ai 4 punti percentuali. Maglia nera è Milano che, con un passivo del 6,5%, azzera quasi completamente i guadagni da inizio anno, mandando in fumo 47 miliardi di euro. «La risposta della Cina ai dazi statunitensi è aggressiva e rende altamente improbabile un accordo a breve termine" con gli Usa, spiega Capital Economics riassumendo gli umori di giornata sui mercati, con il Dragone che sembra credere che la sua economia sia "sufficientemente forte per resistere a qualsiasi attacco di Trump».La Borsa di Milano ha perso il 6,53% arretrando a 34.649 puntiHanno commentato la giornata sui mercati Peter Cardillo, Chief Market Economist per Spartan Capital Securities, Giulio Tremonti, deputato e presidente della commissione Affari esteri ed europei della Camera e Giulio Sapelli dell'Università Statale Milano.

Oggi si chiude il Congresso nazionale del popolo (Cnp), occasione durante la quale la Cina si aggrappa a una crescita economica di circa il 5 per cento anche nel 2025. Si tratta, in buona sostanza, della media registrata nelle 31 province cinesi a ridosso delle due sessioni del Parlamento ufficialmente aperte ieri dal discorso del primo ministro Li Qiang. Nulla di nuovo né di sorprendente, non è tempo di alzate di testa, Pechino resta cauta nel perimetro di un obiettivo simile a quello dell'anno scorso, nonostante la guerra commerciale in crescendo con gli Stati Uniti che sta mettendo a dura prova ampi strati più tradizionali dell'economia cinese basata sull'import-export di prodotti Made in China. Intanto da oggi scattano i dazi cinesi del 10-15% a carico di alcuni prodotti agricoli americani entrano oggi in vigore, ultima rappresaglia contro la mossa Usa che ha appena doppiato al 20% le tariffe su tutto l'import verso gli Stati Uniti di beni made in China in base all'incapacità del Dragone di fermare i flussi del fentanyl, la droga sintetica che è responsabile di circa 100mila morti all'anno in America. Nel mirino della Repubblica popolare sono finiti soia, sorgo, carne di maiale e manzo, prodotti ittici, frutta, verdura e prodotti lattiero-caseari tutti colpiti al 10%, mentre pollame, grano, cotone e mais sono nel gruppo di aliquota al 15%. Le tariffe, inoltre, non si applicheranno alle merci partite prima del 10 marzo, purché arrivino in Cina entro il 12 aprile. Secondo gli analisti, la ritorsione di Pechino è progettata come un utile a colpire la base elettorale del presidente americano Donald Trump, pur rimanendo tanto contenuta da consentire di elaborare un eventuale negoziato ed accordo commerciale. Dieci anni nel mezzo dal quale emerge che i servizi continuano a fare il pieno di occupati, dalle utility alla ristorazione, dalle attività di supporto alle imprese, al commercio. Fanno eccezione banche, assicurazioni e attività immobiliari, che perdono addetti. La pandemia ha segnato una pesante battuta d'arresto, che ora appare superata, almeno dal punto di vista dell'occupazione generale: a gennaio 2025 l'Istat ha censito 24,2 milioni di occupati totali, con un tasso di occupazione cresce al 62,8%, il livello più alto dall'inizio delle serie storiche (gennaio 2004). L'andamento del lavoro Rispetto al 2014, le imprese sono diminuite di 128.626 unità, mentre il saldo dei lavoratori è positivo per 2,6 milioni. Dunque la scomparsa di alcune imprese non si traduce in assoluto nella diminuzione dell'occupazione, ma con ogni probabilità il passaggio dei lavoratori a imprese di dimensioni maggiori. Un fenomeno visibile nel commercio, dove le aziende sono 157mila in meno nel decennio, ma gli occupati sono saliti di 188mila. E il colosso cinese sceglie l'Italia come prima tappa del road show che lo porterà a toccare tutti i Paesi europei dove c è una presenza importante di imprese del comparto automotive. Il produttore di Shenzhen ha puntato la bussola su Torino, una delle culle dell auto in Italia. La tre giorni parte oggi al Museo dell Auto di Torino, a pochi giorni dalla presentazione dell Atto 2, nuovo modello del marchio del Dragone che ha ormai ingaggiato una sfida diretta con Tesla. Sarà un confronto con le imprese che si sono iscritte all evento, realizzato in collaborazione con l Anfia. Una tre giorni da tutto esaurito: 380 le aziende della componentistica che parteciperanno. Alla plenaria ha partecipato Zhiqi He, vicepresidente e capo acquisti di Byd, che ha presentato i programmi della multinazionale cinese nel Vecchio Continente: due nuove fabbriche, una in Ungheria, che sarà operativa da questo autunno e l altra in Turchia, prevista per il 2026. Per evitare i dazi imposti dalla Ue sulle auto made in China, Byd fa il suo ingresso in Europa con due unità produttive e un ambizioso piano commerciale. Le forbici si abbatteranno sui costi fissi e in particolare su quello del lavoro. Già a fine ottobre, in occasione della presentazione della trimestrale, Campari aveva fatto capire che la riorganizzazione avrebbe potuto coinvolgere anche il corpo dei dipendenti. Con 25 stabilimenti in giro per il mondo e una rete distributiva propria in oltre 26 Paesi, Campari impiega quasi 5 mila persone. Il piano di Hunt prevede che a livello globale venga ridotto del 10% il numero dei dipendenti, da mettere subito fuori perimetro, percentuale dunque che corrisponde a circa 500 addetti. Di questi, 100 lavoratori sono in Italia, inclusa una ventina di dirigenti. A questo potrebbe poi aggiungersi un ulteriore sforbiciata ad altri costi non ritenuti necessari. Dopo la pubblicazione delle sue performance, l'app DeepSeek ha raggiunto i vertici nei download gratuiti dell'App Store di Apple sia nel Dragone sia negli Stati Uniti, superando ChatGPT negli Usa. Laboratorio di IA poco noto in Cina, ha scatenato il panico nella Silicon Valley per aver rilasciato modelli di intelligenza artificiale in grado di superare i migliori d'America nonostante siano costruiti a un costo inferiore e con chip meno potenti. Almeno così sembra. DeepSeek, come è chiamato il laboratorio, dice di aver messo a punto un modello di linguaggio di grandi dimensioni gratuito e open source a fine dicembre che avrebbe richiesto solo due mesi e meno di 6 milioni di dollari per essere realizzato, facendo leva sui chip a capacità ridotta di Nvidia (H800). Lo rileva il barometro Crif, evidenziando come, da fine 2023, sia iniziata la ripresa della domanda di mutui che dal quadrante negativo ha raggiunto picchi del 30% a novembre 2024. Nel solo mese di dicembre le richieste di mutui salgono del 25,4% rispetto al pari periodo del 2023, terzo valore massimo per l anno appena concluso. A supportare la dinamica, il calo dei tassi applicati dalle banche, soprattutto a tasso fisso, che riflette i tagli della Bce che si sono susseguiti nel corso dei 12 mesi. E' inoltre proseguita la scelta delle famiglie verso le operazioni di surroga, al fine di ridurre gli oneri della rata dei mutui stipulati a tasso variabile nel periodo di forti aumenti dei tassi di interesse.Nei primi 9 mesi dell anno, infatti, il fenomeno delle surroghe segna un +19,5%, mentre i nuovi mutui erogati si sono contratti del 4,1%. Anche nel 2024 la fascia di importo preferita dalle famiglie italiane è quella compresa tra i 100.000 e 150.000 euro con un 30,6% del totale. A seguire si posiziona la classe di importo 150.000-300.000 euro con una percentuale del 28,5%, mentre il 18,3% richiede un importo tra i 75.000-100.000 euro, e solo il 5,1% supera i 300.000 euro. Il reddito disponibile reale lordo delle famiglie nel 2023 diminuisce, soprattutto a causa della crescita elevata dei prezzi, e si attesta oltre sei punti al di sotto di quello del 2008. Questa è la fotografia che emerge dalle tabelle Eurostat sul "Quadro di valutazione sociale" secondo il quale migliorano invece i punteggi per l'Italia sul fronte dell'occupazione e della disoccupazione e sulla povertà di chi lavora che scende sotto il 10% per la prima volta dal 2010. Per quanto riguarda i redditi in Ue la media sale da 110,12 a 110,82 (2008 pari a 100) mentre l'Italia cala da 94,15 a 93,74.Per quanto riguarda il reddito l'Italia rispetto al 2008 ha fatto meglio solo della Grecia (nel 2022 il reddito lordo disponibile era al 72,1% rispetto a quello del 2008) mentre resta lontana dalla Germania con il 112,59% nel 2023. La Francia supera il 2008 (108,75 nel 2022) mentre la Spagna è ancora indietro (95,85).Eurostat segnala che migliorano i marcatori dell'Italia sul lavoro e sull'istruzione anche se i dati restano al di sotto di quelli medi dell'Ue. In particolare il tasso di occupazione tra i 20 e i 64 anni in Italia sale dal 64,8% del 2022 a 66,3 nel 2023 con una crescita di 1,5 punti mentre in media in Ue l'aumento è di 0,7 punti, dal 74,6% al 75,3%. Nonostante questo aumento l'Italia resta ultima in classifica.Sulla disoccupazione l'Italia registra un calo di 0,4 punti percentuali (dall'8,1% al 7,7%), tendenza ancora rafforzata nel 2024, mentre l'Ue segna in media una riduzione di 0,1 punti (dal 6,2% al 6,1%). Il nostro Paese registra un crollo anche per i Neet (i giovani che non sono in un percorso di istruzione e formazione e non lavorano con il passaggio dal 19% al 16,1%), il dato più basso dall'inizio delle serie storiche nel 2009. In Europa in media si è registrato un calo di 0,5 punti, dall'11,7% all'11,2%. Diminuisce sensibilmente anche la disoccupazione di lunga durata (almeno un anno senza trovare lavoro) con il passaggio dal 4,6% al 4,2% della forza lavoro, il dato più basso dopo il 2009 anche se ancora superiore alla media Ue (2,1%). Ne parliamo con Massimo Baldini, docente di Scienza delle Finanze presso l'Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia.L'Offensiva del Dragone punta a destabilizzare l'economia mondialeSecondo i dati della Banca mondiale, nel 2022 il 30% dell output manifatturiero mondiale originava dalla Cina, mentre i consumi privati cinesi rappresentavano solo il 13% di quelli globali. Ciò implica che le aziende cinesi riversano sui mercati internazionali il 60% delle loro produzioni, spesso a prezzi di realizzo, destabilizzando l economia mondiale. In un contesto normale per assorbire questo squilibrio il Paese dovrebbe stimolare i consumi interni o rivalutare il cambio. Ma il Partito Comunista Cinese da oltre venti anni rifiuta di applicare queste misure, di espandere i servizi pubblici (specialmente la sanità) e estendere la sicurezza sociale per i cittadini. Un Paese che ha costruito 45mila chilometri di linee ferroviarie ad alta velocità spendendo l equivalente di 750 miliardi di euro e che impegna cifre colossali per il riarmo, mantiene ospedali pubblici di infimo livello.Sono state formulate ipotesi più o meno fantasiose, per spiegare questo rifiuto: la mistica confuciana, (in salsa neo-maoista) di vita parca ed austera; il bias ideologico contro un economia orientata ai consumi che sfugge al controllo statale; la preoccupazione che un welfare generoso inoculi il virus dell indolenza nelle nuove generazioni. Tuttavia la motivazione più plausibile è inquietante e gravida di conseguenze. Innanzitutto occorre rottamare l idea che il regime cinese persegua la prosperità e il benessere della popolazione. L accumulo di capacità produttiva, lo spionaggio industriale, l appropriazione indebita di proprietà intellettuale, il dumping compongono una precisa strategia predatoria, una forma di guerra ibrida contro il resto del mondo. Il fine ultimo è ri-assurgere al ruolo egemonico di stampo imperiale che secondo Xi Jinping fu usurpato alla Cina durate il secolo delle umiliazioni. Del resto il Partito Comunista non fa mistero che l obiettivo primario è l ampliamento del potere su scala globale. Infatti sin dal 2015 con il programma Made in China 2025, il governo ha formulato un piano ambizioso, che punta alla primazia economica mondiale entro il 2049, sfruttando le economie di scala e il legame simbiotico tra apparato industriale e militare. Quindi le scelte di politica economica a Pechino puntano esplicitamente alla conquista dei settori più avanzati o strategici utilizzando sussidi, prestiti agevolati, restrizioni alle importazioni, manipolazioni valutarie e pratiche illegali. Innocua per l'uomo ma mortale per i suini domestici e quelli selvatici, cioè i cinghiali. Il Commissario Straordinario alla Peste suina africana Giovanni Filippini ha comunicato ieri all'ANSA la presenza in Italia di 18 focolai in Lombardia, 5 in Piemonte e 1 in Emilia Romagna. Se ne aggiunge uno oggi nel Novarese per un totale di 25 focolai. I dati sono in evoluzione: non c'è giorno ormai in cui non si scopra un nuovo focolaio. Nella sua ultima ordinanza (di giovedì scorso 30 agosto) il Commissario ha inasprito con una sorta di "lockdown delle stalle" i divieti di movimentazione degli animali vietando in tutte le tre le fasce di restrizione lo spostamento di qualsiasi maiale, se non per raggiungere i pochi macelli attrezzati per l abbattimento dei suini provenienti da aree a rischio. Le aziende che non si atterranno alle regole per limitare i contagi dovranno chiudere.Gli allevamenti coinvolti dalle restrizioni sono centinaia e quando in un allevamento viene trovato un maiale malato, la legge impone l'abbattimento di tutti i capi. Oltre 50mila maiali sono già stati abbattuti nel nostro Paese. Cresce quindi la preoccupazione per la filiera suinicola italiana, una delle più performanti dell intero sistema agroalimentare nazionale con un valore tra produzione e indotto di circa 20 miliardi di euro, centomila posti di lavoro e 10 milioni di animali allevati che rappresentano il prodotto di base per la filiera dei grandi prosciutti Dop italiani (Parma San Daniele ma non solo) e di altri salumi Dop.La scorsa primavera ad essere particolarmente colpita è stata l'area del Piacentino, culla di molti allevamenti e di importanti produzioni di salumi Dop. Ora, nell'occhio del ciclone, c'è soprattutto la Lombardia: prima Pavia, poi Lodi. In Lombardia, dove si alleva il 50% di tutta la produzione suinicola nazionale, la preoccupazione è altissima: se la peste suina si diffonderà , sarà un'ecatombe.Gli allevatori sottolineano il peso dei danni indiretti, che vanno ad aggiungersi a quelli diretti (la perdita del capo che viene soppresso) e si pone quindi il tema dei possibili indennizzi. Il Commissario ha specificato che "Il governo sta prendendo in seria considerazione la situazione verificando quali sono gli indennizzi in termini di risarcimenti dei danni diretti e indiretti che gli allevatori stanno subendo"La fauna selvatica (cinghiali) rappresenta il principale veicolo di diffusione della Psa. Coldiretti evidenzia infatti la necessità di ridurre la pressione dei 2,3 milioni di cinghiali considerati ormai "fuori controllo" sul territorio nazionale. L'associazione si è mobilitata per chiedere anche un monitoraggio costante sui prezzi dei suini pagati agli allevatori per evitare le speculazioni e lo stop a mutui e contributi per le aziende colpite. ROMA (ITALPRESS) - Performance negativa in Europa per le autovetture elettriche e mercato fermo negli Stati Uniti d'America, con la sola Cina che cresce, ma a un ritmo non stabile. Il tasso di penetrazione delle vetture a batteria nei paesi europei, dopo aver raggiunto il più 9% ad agosto del 2023 è poi crollato fino a sfiorare il meno 6% a dicembre. È quanto rileva il Centro studi di Unimpresa. Solo i cinesi sono rimasti in una situazione positiva con il tasso di penetrazione al 2%, mentre le immatricolazioni americane sono sostanzialmente ferme. L'Europa si allontana dalle auto elettriche, il tasso di penetrazione negli Stati Uniti si è ormai appiattito mentre in Cina l'andamento è in controtendenza, ma instabile, con un positivo più 2% a maggio, anche se si tratta di un valore più basso rispetto ai dati di inizio dello scorso anno. Negli Stati Uniti, il tasso di penetrazione, nel periodo che va da gennaio 2023 a maggio 2024, è partito dal 2% per poi calare all'1% di giugno; a una lieve risalita nei mesi successivi, fino al 2% circa, è seguita una progressiva stabilizzazione a quota zero, una situazione critica che si è assestata nel corso del 2024, per finire, però, in territorio negativo a maggio scorso. In controtendenza i dati finali della Cina, anche se pure il Dragone assiste a un rallentamento nella corsa della penetrazione delle elettriche: se a gennaio del 2023, il mercato delle vetture a batteria, per i cinesi, era in territorio positivo per oltre il 3%, alla fine del periodo osservato, maggio 2024, il dato è risultato in calo al più 2%.fsc/mrv

Prende il via l'iter legale della procedura d'infrazione Ue lanciata dall'Italiacontro l'Austria per i divieti unilaterali imposti ai tir al Brennero. A quanto si apprende a Bruxelles, la prima audizione in contradditorio davanti alla Commissione europea si svolgerà nel pomeriggio dalle 14:30 alle 18. L'esecutivo Ue non intende rilasciare dichiarazioni in quanto si tratta di "una procedura legalmente vincolata". La procedura per trascinare l'Austria davanti alla Corte di giustizia Ue, ricorda un portavoce della Commissione, è regolamentata dall'articolo 259 dei Trattati. Dopo il ricorso presentato dal governo italiano, ora entrambe le parti hanno la possibilità di esporre le loro argomentazioni sia oralmente che per iscritto davanti all'esecutivo Ue che dovrà quindi redigere - entro il 15 maggio - un parere motivato. Nel 2050 raggiungerà 80 milioni di tonnellate. La Cina esporta il 90% dei pannelli utilizzati nel mondo. Quindi è evidente un collo di bottiglia. Solo nel 2023 in EU abbiamo importato dalla Cina circa 203 milioni di pannelli, in grado di produrre 101.5GW. Equivalgono a circa 254 mila container che messi uno in fila all'altro potrebbero collegare Torino con Tromso, al circolo polare artico). Le stime sono in crescita. Secondo studi della Arizona State University, si registra una carenza di argento. Il comparto fotovoltaico cuba il 15% dell'argento al mondo(fonte Bloomberg) e di questo passo nel 2040 si arriverà a consumarne il 100% dell'argento estratto in anno. Iniziano ad esserci carenze anche di sabbia silicea (ne ha parlato l'Economist), che è il secondo materiale (dopo l'acqua) più utilizzato al mondo. Una materia chiave anche per l'elettronica di consumo e il fotovoltaico. KeepTheSun, primo marketplace italiano di pannelli fotovoltaici usati, ha come obiettivi: trasformare un potenziale rifiuto in una fonte di energia pulita e a basso costo, dare nuovo impulso alla transizione energetica in un'ottica di economia circolare e sostenere così la filiera europea del fotovoltaico. Helena De Graeve is a 27-year old dancer, dance teacher and choreographer, born and raised in Zulte, Belgium. At a young age, Helena was part of the national rhythmic gymnastics team in Belgium and took part in several World Cups and the European Games in Bremen in 2010. After finishing her bachelor of education in dance at Codarts Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Helena joined a contemporary company named Chrysalis by Jodie Blemings in London. In 2019 she moved to Macau to join the cast of The House of Dancing Water from Dragone as a dancer. The pandemic forced her to focus on her work as a teacher and choreographer and she improved her skills as a performing artist. At a young age, Helena was part of the national rhythmic gymnastics team in Belgium and took part in several World Cups and the European Games in Bremen in 2010. After finishing her bachelor of education in dance at Codarts Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Helena joined a contemporary company named Chrysalis by Jodie Blemings in London. In 2019 she moved to Macau to join the cast of The House of Dancing Water from Dragone as a dancer. The pandemic forced her to focus on her work as a teacher and choreographer and she improved her skills as a performing artist. She joined a project in Ibiza named Alien/Animus Omnis by Manumisson and played in the large scaled spectacle musical The Red Star Line in Belgium. On the next "Chicks you don't want to break up with:"   I think there's been more talk about this show since it opened than any other Vegas show in memory.   Good or bad, people are talking about Awakening. We saw the show in late February 2023, when we were in town for the Half Marathon and 360 Vegas Winter Vacation. Before we get to the review, let's talk about how Wynn got here.  When the resort opened in 2005, it opened with the production show La Reve. Like Awakening, La Reve had its share of problems.  Developed by Franco Dragone from Cirque, who Steve Wynn poached from Cirque.  Dragone was instrumental in developing Mystere and “O” for Wynn at Treasure Island and Bellagio. The sort-of Steve Wynn biography “Winner Takes All” talks about the mixed reactions to La Reve in the beginning, including bewildering acts like pregnant women falling from the ceiling during the show.  We almost saw Le Reve in July of 2020, but shows weren't cleared to reopen, and our front row seats were refunded to us. Permanent closure of La Reve was announced Aug 14, 2020. Complete with giant mythical forest creatures! Wynn announced Awakening  in October, 2022.  The show was developed by Bernie Yuman, Baz Halpin, and puppeteer Michael Curry.  Theater aficionados might recognize Michael Curry's puppet work from The Lion King Broadway production. Awakening opened November 7, 2022 but closed briefly for a few weeks for rehearsals/changes in January. The show closed again April 17, ‘22, and at the time of this writing is scheduled to reopen Friday, June 23. So you want my opinion?  I think this is a really good show. It has a unique story and great visuals, which include fantastic costumes, innovative puppets, and a state of the art stage. The story is like nothing I've seen on a Vegas stage. It has its own mythology, and the groundwork for the story set up in the prologue. (I believe the prologue was added after the January hiatus, and the addition of this prologue has cleared up a lot of confusion around the story that surrounded the show's brief first run.)  Essentially, the story goes: Light and Dark are lovers, and together create Magic. Light leaves, Dark freaks out, and Dark imprisons Magic. Custody battles suck. Heroine “IO” sneaks into Black and White ball that Dark is holding in a sort of heist. IO finds Magic, and ends up on a quest to unite Dark and Light, and free Magic.  Together with her companions, she travels through multiple “realms,” like Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. The Awakening theater is gorgeous. It is a theater in the round, so there are really no bad seats.  At the time I saw the show, Wynn charged the most for seats in the back, presumably because you can see it all better?  (A look at ticket prices for the June reopening indicates that this is not the case in the future.) There are individual surround sound speakers at each seat, so every seat has great audio.  Seats are also quite comfortable. Have you heard the word? The stage itself is a technological marvel.  It is constantly changing levels in sections to create different environments. The stage floor is translucent, and underlit, for additional effects.  Michael Curry's puppets - the word “puppet” seems way too insignificant for his creations - are incredible. Personal favorites include a giant whale that seems to swim above you, and a rock creature that comes alive on the stage.  Of particular note is the creepy blank-face dark creature that serves as Dark's chief henchman.  The show makes full use of the theater space, so the story feels like it plays out everywhere, not only are you looking side to side, but up and down as well. Audience Fuckery Factor: Zero.  No one's messing with you, so sit back and just enjoy the show. Not sure if drinks were allowed in the theater. No drink service during show, but there was a bar in the theater lobby. When the show resumes on June 23, showtimes are set for 7 and 9:30 pm. Shows are Tuesdays through Saturdays, dark Sundays and Mondays. Tickets start at $99 on Vegas.com.
