Knox Chandler's career has spanned for over four decades including long stints as a member of The Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cyndi Lauper band, extraordinary experiences in recording and performing live around the world. Chandler's also performed, recorded, arranged and produced, working with acts such as REM, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Marianne Faithful, Natalie Merchant, Tricky, The Creatures, Dave Gahan Paper Monsters and The Golden Palominos etc. Knox spent a decade residing in Berlin, Germany, while he explored sound-scaping.  He developed a technique he calls “Soundribbons, which he recorded and performed in its own right as well as applying it to different genres and mediums . He composed, recorded, toured, produced, and wrote string arrangements for Herbert Grönemeyer, Jesper Munk, Pure Reason Revolution, The Still, TAU, Miss Kenichi and the Sun, Mars William's Albert Ayler Xmas, Rita Redshoes, Them There, The Night, etc. While living in Germany received a Post Graduate certification in education and was the head of the guitar department at BIMM College. Chandler returned to the States to be near family and now resides in the New Haven Connecticut area. The Sound is the solo debut of much-travelled musician / producer / arranger / painter Knox Chandler. This project is a musical / visual memoir depicting the shift in his surroundings from the urban to the rural, specifically the Connecticut shoreline off the Long Island Sound and the impact of this dramatic change of environment on his consciousness and the art-work that leads to.   At The Sound ‘s core is Chandler's “Soundribbon” style of meditative, powerfully cinematic instrumental performance on guitar, accompanied by upright bass and percussion which comprises the audio component of the release. The visual portion is a book of paintings, photographs, sketches and written meditations, interpreting nature through technology. The blending of these mediums is Knox's attempt to make the diaristic intent of his music explicit. The Sound is being released on Knox's new label Blue Elastic on May 30. To say that Douglas Vermeeren is one of the busiest actors filming roles in feature films in Europe and the USA is an understatement. To keep up with his roles in productions in 2024, let's start with the Western “Unnatural 2,” Douglas plays Lucifer, directed by Whit Whitman and shot in Kentucky in May 2024 for Little Monsters Productions. He then flew to attend the Cannes Film Festival before booking a role as gangster Archie Baker in “Clean Right Hook,” shot in London, UK, in Late May /early June 2024, directed by Sam Purewal for Black Coppice Productions, Then back to the US for “Deadly Endings”  shot in New Haven CT in June 2024. On this episode I'm joined by Dominic chambers.  Dominic and I have known each other for a couple of years now and I've watched his practice grow so much in that time. It's been a minute since we sat down and talked about his work and practice, so it was great to catch up with him and learn all about the work in his latest show at Lehmann Maupin gallery, and some of the things that have been inspiring him lately.Born in St. Louis Missouri, Chambers currently lives and works in New Haven CT. Chambers received his MFA from Yale in 2019. Chambers creates vibrant paintings that simultaneously engage art historical models, such as color-field painting and gestural abstraction, and contemporary concerns around race, identity, and the necessity for leisure and reflection. Interested in how art can function as a mode for understanding, recontextualizing, or renegotiating one's relationship to the world, the artist sees painting as a critical and intellectual endeavor, as much as an aesthetic one.

Suzanne Schireson is an artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. She is the recipient of a Rhode Island State Council on the Arts Fellowship and two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants. Her work has been featured in Hyperallergic, The Providence Phoenix and The Boston Globe. Recent solo exhibits include “Inside Room”, Tiger Strikes Asteroid GVL (NC), “Aftercare”, Eleanor D. Wilson Museum (VA) and “Night Studios”, University of New Haven (CT). Her work has been exhibited at The Woodmere Art Museum (Philadelphia, PA), the New Bedford Museum of Art (New Bedford, MA) and the Sori Art Center (Jeollabuk-do, South Korea). Suzanne attended Indiana University (M.F.A. ‘08), the University of Pennsylvania (B.F.A. ‘04) and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Certificate ‘03); she is an Associate Professor of Art and Design at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.    “My paintings focus on the intersection of caretaking, motherhood, and creative practice. This work began just before the pandemic through conversations with other mothers and caretakers about balancing creative practice (be it writing, music, running or painting) with daily care responsibilities. My images are based on a mother or a caretaker, and I paint a studio for them.    Through painting, research, and installation, I continue to analyze and imagine new ways that motherhood and artistic practice contribute to each other. My paintings invent spaces for nocturnal women, working against distraction in marginal hours of the day. These works are on paper due to a material shift that enabled me to paint at home on a smaller scale at the start of the pandemic.  I am rediscovering color for myself in these works, finding new networks dictated by the twilight of a fluorescent painting ground. I intend these spaces to be more psychological than physical. They are not about escape; they are about a deep desire to reflect and refuel.   My work is inspired by a desire for solitary space, which was so valuable during the pandemic. In quarantine, I occupied more time with those I care for, making flashes of solitude particularly rare. Increasingly, my buildings struggle to hold the figure inside, or the women get to work before the structure is complete. On this tour through Connecticut, and New Haven, we take a look at a not to distant figure of fame and fortune, PT Barnum, afterwards Chad draws a connection between the previously mentioned Sleeping Giant and the Hammonasset Line which when followed northward through the Great Lakes leads us to a second mountain known as sleeping giant! Chad also shows us numerous accounts and reports of uncovered giant skeletons and corpses in New Haven, Norwalk, and Hartford Connecticut. I then go and show the connections between the Hammonasset Line and the countless varieties of Sacred Stone structures and ceremonial sites that are forgotten and lay dormant throughout New England's woodlands. A short recap of the holiday road trip in search of magical Christmas experiences.    Transcript:   Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in about 2 minutes a day,  through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life.    I'm your host Katie Jefcoat, and this is really just a story about our holiday road trip.  The premise:  Small New England towns that could have inspired a Hallmark Christmas movie.  You know I love the holidays and twinkle lights and Christmas cheer and I had never been to Maine or Vermont, so that's where this road trip was taking us.    We left on a Friday night and drove to Connecticut where we just slept for the night and ate the most delicious donut breakfast sandwich.  The place, Donut Crazy in New Haven Connecticut takes a large yeast donut and cuts it in half.  Then, they grill the inside just slightly.  Take some bacon, egg and cheese and layer that between two halves of the donut.  What is smart, is that they flip the donut so that your hands are not touching all the glaze, but the grilled inside of this deliciousness.        Next we continued to the Cliff House Maine, where we were staying for 2 nights.  The drive took us through picturesque Portsmouth, New Hampshire where the town square was bustling on the Saturday before Christmas.  When we arrived at the Cliff House it exceeded all of our expectations.  It smelled like fresh pine.  A 3 story christmas tree filled the great room, wood burning fires everywhere and the banisters were adorned with pine garland.  It felt like fancy Christmas. The room was amazing, ocean views and a little bunk room for the kids.     We visited Kennebunkport Maine which ended up being our favorite stop on the driving trip.  We indulged in all things Maine.  We ate lobster rolls, Maine blueberry pie, drank blueberry soda and even tried our hand at some of the local craft brews.  We happened on a Christmas themed bar that was everything I could have dreamed.  It was a perfect way to warm up and to indulge in some Christmas cheer.    Next we were off to Woodstock, VT.  Woodstock is a charming little town and they sure know how to do Christmas.  Unlike The Cliff House where you had to drive to anything you wanted to see, the Woodstock Inn was in the center of town and you could walk everywhere.  They had a large fireplace the size of a human in the front lobby where guests congregated all day and night.  We managed to get a spot and play a few card games by the fire and it was delightful.  We took a drive up north to Stowe, Vermont where we did some ice skating, but we were not prepared for skiing, so we passed.     We basically spent the week driving around looking at holiday lights with the snow covered trees and indulging in the most delicious meals. It was 24/7 family time and we loved every minute of it.  So much, that when we got back home, we basically grabbed a board game and kept the good time rolling.     So there you have it.  The road trip in search of Christmas did not disappoint. She attended and graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she received her Master's degree in Fine Arts. Coolidge's diverse project range has given her a reputation for eclectic taste. Among a long list of working with Hollywood's finest, Coolidge also discovered great talents like Nicolas Cage (Valley Girl (1983)), Val Kilmer (Real Genius (1985)) and James Gandolfini (Angie (1994)). In addition to working with talented artists, Coolidge has received many awards for her work. Raba bar Chiya performed a chalitza at night with a slipper not made of leather and on his own, rather than in front of two or three people. Shmuel was upset when he heard this. What issue was he upset about? Two different possibilities are suggested. What is the root of the debate regarding the left foot?
