This week on Open Sources Guelph, we're going to play the beautiful game: Amateur political punditry! In that context, we're also going to talk about all the issues around that other game being played on the world stage this week, and we're also going to talk about the national stage and the latest moves at a certain inquiry, plus the local stage with another new city councillor who'll talk about a very big first meeting. This Thursday, November 24, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: It's All Been Leading to This. It's the last week of testimony for the public inquiry into the use of the Emergencies Act, and it's probably the most consequential one. All your favourite cabinet ministers will be testifying - Bill Blair, Marco Mendicino, Dominic LeBlanc, David Lametti, Anita Anand, Omar Alghabra, Chrystia Freeland, and then on Friday, "Mr. Big" himself, Justin Trudeau. We'll talk about the latest developments. ¡FIFA la Revolución! The FIFA world Cup has begun in Qatar, but the first several days have been marked with completely predictable scandals: They promised beer, but there was no beer served. They promised to let up on some of their anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, but a man in a rainbow t-shirt was barred from entering a stadium. Even the ticket app crashed on one point this week. So why are we indulging this thing? hiCarly! The first real city council meeting happened this week, and it had a some consequential implications about what the City of Guelph can do for the next four year. But it was nothing that council did, it was about the Government of Ontario's Bill 23. This week, we're joined by new Ward 2 Councillor Carly Klassen who will talk about her reaction to the implications of Bill 23 and other council business. Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
The Power Panel discusses what we learned from the testimony of ministers David Lametti, Anita Anand and Omar Alghabra.

Canada's transportation minister Omar Alghabra will be holding a summit to address the upcoming holiday travel season. The minister says he is working to improve the situation of delays at the airports and improve efficiency with the airlines and says that his ministry is working to ensure more staff for the airports and airlines. But with the holiday season just a month away, does he have the time and resources to get this done successfully? The summit will include stakeholders from the airlines and airports. And, the minister had this to say about why it is happening: “We cannot go back to what we saw last summer." And, Marty is on site at Pearson International Airport awaiting to board a flight. He gives us first-hand observations of what is going on there. CANADA SOCCER AT THE WORLD CUP IN QATAR Libby Znaimer is joined by Bob Richardson, a member of the board of directors for Canada Soccer. Today, Canada faces off against Belgium in the world cup in host country Qatar. But, what is more remarkable than that is the fact that Canada is making its first appearance in the event in 36 years. So, how did we get here? And, what does this all mean for Canada on the world stage? Bob was also just recently featured in the Toronto Life list of most influential Torontonians for bringing the future world cup to our City in 2026 (which will be joint hosted by the US and Mexico as well). METROLINX'S PLANS TO UPROOT HISTORIC TREES AT OSGOODE HALL Libby Znaimer is joined by Steve Munro, a Toronto transit advocate followed by Mike Schreiner, leader of the Green Party of Ontario. The federal government's ArriveCan app is stranding travellers abroad and getting elderly Canadians getting fined because they aren't tech-savvy. Will Sylvia be able to fill the big shoes that her predecessor Christine Elliott left? And, we continue the discussion about government incompetence. There seems to be a lot of it these days. Some examples that come to mind include Global Affairs sending a senior rep to the Russian Embassy to celebrate Russia Day and federal transportation minister Omar Alghabra blaming travelers for problems at international airports like Pearson. The shuffle will address those in the cabinet who say they do not plan on running again in the next federal election, sources told Global News. Sources said Navdeep Bains, who has served as Canada’s minister of innovation, science and industry since 2019, will not run again in the next election and will no longer be in cabinet. Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne is expected to replace Bains. Transport Minister Marc Garneau is expected to be shuffled in to replace Champagne at Global Affairs Canada, sources said. Omar Alghabra who currently serves as parliamentary secretary to the Minister of International Trade Diversification is expected to assume the role of transport minister, according to the sources. The federal Liberals found themselves 13 seats shy of the 170 needed to form a majority after the 2019 federal election. This means the government could be toppled if the opposition parties unite against it — potentially after the next budget in the spring, the first since the COVID-19 pandemic sent the federal deficit skyrocketing. Omar Alghabra advocated for sharia law in Ontario. He has openly stated he does not believe that Hamas and Hezbollah were terrorist groups. He played a leading role in silencing the discussions to be lead on Parliament Hill by Baroness Cox of the UK Parliament. Why does Omar, like so many Liberals, want to shut down the voices of women? Being kidnapped by terrorists or foreign dictatorships is a terrifying ordeal. For government officials, it is a nightmare as they do not want to “negotiate with terrorists” but yet face public demands to get the victims released. But based on my assessment of recent Canadian cases since Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister, the results are not encouraging for the victims. The Government of Canada only seems to invest significant efforts where the victims are connected to the Prime Minister's inner circles. It seems to help if you are connected to the Muslim Brotherhood and Omar Alghabra.
