Hrund brings a unique perspective to how we lead, live, innovate and make better choices in times of uncertainty, transition and noise. A firm believer that the change we now need in the world starts from within us, she draws on her experience having leading roles in the areas of development and post-conflict reconstruction with the UN in Europe and Asia, innovation, investments, sustainable and circular business transition, the arts and education. She was the first woman to chair Iceland's largest public innovation fund, she was the managing director of Iceland's sustainability centre Festa, programme director of UNIFEM in post-war Kosovo, and designed and directed Prisma, a diploma university program, recognised by the Nordic Council for best responding to 21st century work place challenges. What if the leadership edge you're looking for doesn't come from working harder, but listening deeper? We talk often about productivity, performance, and pushing through. But few conversations explore the quieter forces shaping our best decisions, like intuition. In this episode, I speak with Hrund Gunnsteinsdóttir, a director, writer, systems thinker, and an award-winning sustainability leader, about intuition as a source of strength, clarity, and resilience in both leadership and life. Hrund shares how her work in post-conflict Kosovo with the UN led to burnout and a full reset — one that turned her toward the science and practice of intuition. Through personal stories, research, and the Icelandic concept of innsæi (“the sea within”), she explains how we can train our intuition as rigorously as we train our intellect. We explore: How to know whether your intuition is guiding you, or your ego is pulling you Why many of us lose touch with inner guidance (and how to return to it) How to use an “attention journal” to strengthen your discernment The difference between insight and overthinking What it takes to create workplace cultures that respect sensing as much as data Why intuition is not the opposite of reason, but essential to it This episode is for anyone navigating uncertainty, complexity, or the quiet knowing that something needs to change. Whether you're leading a team, facing a major decision, or simply looking to reconnect with your inner compass, this conversation offers both inspiration and practical tools to help you find your way — from the inside out. Hrund Gunnsteinsdóttir is an Advisory Council member at Yale's International Leadership Centre and has been recognised for her work as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and Cultural Leader and Yale World Fellow. The grid is getting more complex, complicating the responsibilities of the entities responsible for keeping electricity flowing. In this episode of Grid Talk, host Marty Rosenberg interviews Clair Moeller who is the President and Chief Operating Officer for the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO).The discussion focuses on the evolving power grid and the transition to clean energy. “Retirements are outpacing new installations of resources on the grid and that's a problem that we haven't had on the grid since its early formation period in the ‘30s,” Moeller said. “Things are moving in an uncoordinated fashion where we're creating risk for the grid that we maybe didn't anticipate.”One of the risks is the need for more transmission to meet demand.“By the time we're all in, it will be over a hundred billion dollars' worth of transmission investments.”Spending for new generation and transmission will have an impact on consumers.“Energy costs at the consumer level are going to go up substantially,” said Moeller.Moeller also talks about the pace of the energy transition and the need for education. “We can reduce our carbon footprint faster if we build more gas-fired generation so that we can turn off coal plants. But that just doesn't make sense to people that think we should turn off combustion because that's how you reduce the carbon footprint,” he said.Clair Moeller leads all aspects of the Operations division at MISO, including grid operations, forward markets, system planning, external affairs, information technology and corporate services. Moeller also has executive responsibility for the compliance and external affairs teams. He is an industry expert with experience in the operation of power systems throughout the Midwest. He is skilled at identifying and implementing the best practices in transmission planning and system operations.Moeller completed the Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership course at Oxford Said Business School, the Executive Management program at the Carlson School of Business, University of Minnesota, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.

The intersection of business and human rights led to the Oxford Said EMBA [Show Summary] Anthony Triolo is a champion of social justice with an impressive work history serving countries all over the globe. He's currently earning his Executive MBA at Oxford Said and shares what led him to the program and how he intends to incorporate his learning in the next steps of his career journey. Interview with Anthony Triolo, Oxford Said Executive MBA candidate [Show Notes] Thanks for joining me for this, the 454th episode of Admissions Straight Talk. Before I dive into today's interview, I want to invite you to download Ace The EMBA, Expert Advice For The Rising Executive. This free guide will compliment today's podcast and give you suggestions on how to choose the right EMBA program for you, how to differentiate yourself from your competition - in a positive way - and how to present yourself effectively as a business leader who will bring credit to any program that accepts you. Download Ace The EMBA. I'd like to welcome to Admissions Straight Talk, Anthony Triolo. Anthony has an absolutely fascinating background. After graduating from Yale with a bachelor's in history and political science in 2000, he went on to work on the Truth And Reconciliation Commission for Sierra Leone, where he worked from 2003-2009 in differing roles, all relating to justice. He then worked as a Senior Associate for the UN's Special Tribunal for Lebanon at the Hague. After serving in additional roles related to international law and justice, he became the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Rule of Law Collaborative at the University of South Carolina in 2020. While all the above is extremely impressive and interesting, he has been invited to Admissions Straight Talk because he recently began his Executive MBA at the Oxford Said Business School as an Executive MBA Director Awardee, which earned him a sizable financial award. Let's get right to it. In preparing for the call, I saw the phrase “transitional justice”, several times in your bios and in your work. So I have to ask you, what is transitional justice? [2:35] Transitional justice is a way to help societies who are grappling with the legacy of massive human rights abuses confront their past so they can move forward and have a more prosperous future. We usually talk about transitional justice in the post-conflict setting. I've worked on transitional justice initiatives on a global scale and usually what that means is prosecuting individuals who were responsible for war crimes that were committed during the conflict. It's about truth telling, telling the story of what happened during the conflict and making recommendations for the way forward. It's about reparative justice for the victims, and it's about institutional reform. How do we repair what was broken and make it better so that the occurrence of violence doesn't happen again? In reality, transitional justice is not only limited to post-conflict societies. It includes all societies across the board, including the U.S. Given your career progress to date, why did you decide to even consider an Executive MBA? [3:51] I'm 20 years into my professional career, and I'm sort of reading the tea leaves. I'm really interested in the intersection of business and human rights. I've worked a lot in the public sector, but I realize in order to really make an impact and have a transformative impact in the world, you need greater partnerships between the public and private sector. I was thinking that the MBA could help me get a better understanding of the private sector to help build those partnerships that are necessary to bring about change in our society. That's what really led me to pursue the Executive MBA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yicKKHheUE What was the most difficult part of the application process for you and how did you deal with it? [4:40] I think it was trying to pick a program that was right for me...
