Jefferson Brooks grew his career from pizza delivery to a six-figure management role at a big box retail store. His love of dogs led him to become adept at training. People began to rely on Jefferson to better their dogs and, ultimately, their families. He found he was so fulfilled at this work that he left his career to launch Brooks Family K9, a family-owned business that helps dogs and their owners live better together through training in aggression, obedience, loose leash, and early training for puppies. Shareen Harding knew when she was 11 years old that she wanted to be a neonatal ICU nurse. And for 14 years, she's done just that. A very focused woman who does nothing halfway, her love of dogs propelled her to become the founder and CEO of Kenai's House, a nonprofit organization providing a safe and healthy environment for abandoned and neglected animals to thrive and have a second chance at life until responsible and loving homes can be found. Together, Jefferson and Shareen have combined their expertise to offer a comprehensive range of services that allow them to be “here for the lifetime of the pet.” They offer advice on when you know you're ready for a dog, how to find the right pet for your family, and tips on preparing to welcome a dog into your home. "We put so many different things in our bodies now. I think the cleaner we eat, the better we are." —Shareen Davis Our oceans are an incredibly valuable resource— home to some of the world's most majestic and diverse marine life. Unfortunately, our current fishing systems continue to threaten the health and balance of our aquatic ecosystems. That's why sustainable fishing is a vital practice for the preservation of our water resources. It helps to protect endangered species, reduce bycatch, and create more sustainable seafood supplies. Additionally, it promotes ocean health, improves the livelihoods of fishing communities, and reduces environmental damage from overfishing. By taking steps to implement sustainable fishing practices in our fisheries communities, we can help make a difference for future generations. Chatham Harvesters is a cooperative that harvests and sells Cape Cod seafood. By utilizing their resources and implementing innovative strategies to empower the local fishing community, they have been able to create a sustainable business model that benefits everyone involved. This proves that sustainable seafood practices are possible when there is a collective effort. In this episode, we will take a look at the innovative initiatives that Chatham Harvesters has implemented to promote sustainability and how they empower the local fishing community. Justine and Shareen also discuss the challenges of sustainably managing fishing and marine resources, the importance of economic empowerment for fishermen, the difference between eating local catch vs farm-raised seafood, and how to bridge the gap between local farmers and the community. Meet Shareen: Shareen has years of experience in seafood consulting, visual art, and writing. Through her work and writing, she aims to provide insight into the issues facing our local fishing communities. She also hopes to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in our food system and help people understand how they can make a difference. Shareen also serves as the Program Developer and Cook at Chatham Harvesters, a cooperative that is owned and operated by fishermen themselves. Their mission is to build community involvement in local fishing while ensuring that consumers receive quality local seafood at reasonable prices. To achieve these goals, they focus on increasing access to abundant species markets, educating the public about cleanly harvesting whole animals from fisheries, and creating collective economic stability. If you want to implement change so that there is more belonging in your organisation you need to educate leaders to be open to more behaviours and in this episode, Shareen Qureshi, founder and CEO of Sports Tech Global continues to discuss the experiences, both positive and negative that she experienced in her career previously She explains why focusing on an individual's potential is a vital element and how some groups can become invisible when they don't fit in and explores the solutions that can bring change and belonging KEY TAKEAWAYS There wasn't a senior active role model that acted and felt like me At the lowest points in my career, I would just follow and conform because I didn't feel I could speak out The process was never easy and there were times that I felt I wasn't rewarded I should have been in a position to challenge the feedback but I wasn't When you are not chosen because you don't fit in, you can become invisible There are organisations out there who are supporting those who are not from the majority group Sports technology Global is about people coming together to showcase their sports inventions My training ground is the institution I came from and I am ever grateful and even though it was up and down it made me the person I am BEST MOMENTS ‘Institutions need to provide more opportunities' ‘Your personal position hasn't been taken into account by your leader' ‘Choice is fundamental' VALUABLE RESOURCES Website: https://belongingpioneers.com/privilege-research-and-podcast Email: equitychampions@belongingpioneers.com Useful links: https://linktr.ee/BelongingPioneers Shareen Qureshi LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shareen-qureshi-b84766125/ ABOUT THE HOSTS Ishreen Bradley is a Strategic Pioneer who guides Professional Leaders to navigate complex situations and achieve success with clarity, confidence, and courage. For many organisations, it can be a challenge to create an environment where there is a sense of belonging and in this episode, Shareen Qureshi discusses her varied experiences of belonging in the workplace Previously Shareen was a Senior Marketing Director at Barclays and is the founder of the Sports Tec global conference and is currently using her banking skills to set up a sports Tec global fund Shareen discusses the value of a strong mentor, and mentee program and why everyone should be able to bring their whole self to work every day KEY TAKEAWAYS When we hear the collective voice it makes a difference In a large organisation it's down to the leaders to create a safe space If you are expected to conform to the majority group standard then you are being told being yourself isn't good enough The ideals and values are set by the majority group If it was about bringing your whole self to work the differences would be valued and every individual would feel they belonged Every organisation should have a stronger mentor, stronger mentee program in place across all levels Partnering people means they can learn from each other The only way large organisations make a change is if the senior heads believe in the change Education needs to be holistic and be introduced both top to bottom and bottom to top BEST MOMENTS ‘The smallest thought can make a huge difference' ‘If you take actions on the smaller things, larger activities fall into place' ‘Always believe in yourself' ‘It's important to be interested in the people you are working with' VALUABLE RESOURCES Website: https://belongingpioneers.com/privilege-research-and-podcast Email: equitychampions@belongingpioneers.com Useful links: https://linktr.ee/BelongingPioneers Shareen Qureshi LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shareen-qureshi-b84766125/ ABOUT THE HOSTS Ishreen Bradley is a Strategic Pioneer who guides Professional Leaders to navigate complex situations and achieve success with clarity, confidence, and courage. Read on for today's agenda below prepared by David (thank you very much). - Retired US Diplomat to 5 different nations David Hunter shares his knowledge, passion, interest, and experience. 1)Ukraine Missiles Strike Russian City of Belgorad 25 miles from Ukraine's Border: After months of being attacked by Russian missiles and artillery, including strikes on schoolhouses, hospitals, shopping malls and residential buildings, Ukraine seems to have struck back inside Russian territory. Russians seem shocked by such Ukrainian 'ruthless brutality'. Is this justified for what Russia has done?2)Russia Starting 'Show Trial' of US Basketball Star Brittney Griner: Ms. Griner was arrested while arriving back in Russia to play on a Russian women's basketball team. She allegedly carried vape cartridges which had cannibus or hash-oil residue in them. If convicted, she may face 10 yrs in Russian prison. However, a 'prisoner swap' also seems likely. What's going on here--is Ms. Griner being 'framed'?3)Why Does Putin Lie about Who Were His Parents?: The question of Putin's parents is vague. He claims he was raised in Leningrad by a Soviet hero of WWII. But he may have been born the illegitimate son of a Georgian woman, Anna Putina, and later adopted by distant relatives. If so, could this explain his warped, cold, insensitive personality? What do you think?4)US Security Coordinator at US Embassy in Jerusalem Concluded Israeli Army Did Not 'Intentionally' Target American- Palestinian Journalist in Killing: Just released 'investigation' results by Lt. Gen. Mark Schwartz---- who is in charge of the USSC, part of the State Department reporting directly to Secretary of State Blinkin, and was given access to the bullet that killed Shareen,---- concluded the bullet was too badly damaged to determine from what type weapon it was fired, but that the shot likely came from Israeli Army's location. What do you think, is Biden Administration engaged in 'whitewashing' the killing of an American citizen?

Oh, no, I've got to have pod cast episodes teed up and ready for Friday. So I got to have my, I have to have my interview published for, for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, I've got to publish four episodes, have them ready, batch publishing. I'm not sure quite what the term is after publishing 287 episodes. That's how many episodes I've published. There'll be 300 by the time you hear this, which is pretty awesome, but I am going camping to step away from it all for three days up in Mammoth, we'll be doing 10 miles a day. So we'll probably clock 20 to 30 miles in three days. So that'll be super fun. Mammoth, Mammoth lakes, June lakes up in, um, by, uh, where is that in California? Kinda, um, past Whitney and all that.Mischa Z: 01:22 So very excited to get away and do all that. Um, I was on a couple of things I wanted to discuss. I'm trying to get in the habit of say what you're going to say. Say it then say what you've said. So where was I? Oh my gosh, I already lost track. Can't even tell you what I was going to say. So I could say it and then tell you what I said, um, has tremendous insecurities about my podcast. And I was just doing a little journaling, a little prayer, you know, writing and such, and the thought came, don't worry about your podcast. Keep at it, just keep at it. I've been thinking a lot about finding my voice. People talk about they have found their voice or they're finding their voice or, or Russell Brunson is like just publish every day and soon enough you'll find your voice.Mischa Z: 02:29 And I'm thinking, what the heck does that even mean? Find your voice because I definitely don't know if I'm any closer to finding my voice. However, I believe I got a glimmer, a glimpse of finding my voice today. So I was interviewed for a summit, the forgiveness zone subnet, I think it was called the forgiveness, something summit, forgiveness, something summit. Um, and I felt like ego ugly. I did good. Like the Connie who interviewed me was, was excited. I felt like, like she, she felt like whatever she was looking for, I was able to provide. Good insights, good content, good conversation, good content for her summit listeners. And so I worked hard on telling some stories, having specific, actionable, you know, a framework to work with some, some tactics strategy and then a tactic. And then, um, you know, also try and reference, you know, where I learned some things, so who I learned things from.Mischa Z: 03:52 So I think that I was getting a glimpse of finding my voice appropriate stories at the appropriate times. And then I was on this podcast today. I got interviewed for somebody's podcast, Shereen Wilson's inner mind podcast, and Shareen's super cool NLP, um, hypnotherapy. Um, she's good about, uh, nutrition, but definitely in her mind stuff. And she was very excited about the conversation that we had after it, and very much enjoyed the stories that I told. And I tried to tell stories. I was like, all right, tell some stories to highlight your point. You know, um, I guess as Russell Brunson would say how you've learned it and earned it and you, no, I definitely felt like I had this moment of, I think I'm finding my voice was so fleeting, whatever that thought was or idea was, has since slipped away, but that's all right.Mischa Z: 05:13 The habit for a moment was super cool. And I think sort of what finding your voices perhaps is being able to be meaningful in my conversation, be useful of service, helpful, you know, like getting a little bit closer to what is my niche. Um, but as I've said, many times on this podcast, I have been in recovery for decades three and a half decades. And it started for me when I was very young. You know, recovery took hold for me when I was 17 years and nine months old. And it's been, you know, sobriety ever since lots of been very active in recovery in 12 steps.Mischa Z: 06:02 And what was really cool as I've made a commitment to try to bring that, those stories that lens of my life, two audiences that normally wouldn't get to hear it, I guess, is how I would say it. So it was fun to tell a stories that I might normally tell in a different environment, in a new environment to a new audience. And it felt like the path was really good. And so that was really empowering, I suppose, is the word I would say, or again, a moment of, oh, maybe I am finding my voice to have somebody to have those stories resonate, the poignant, carry a message, carry learning for somebody where I was able to teach and give somebody insights outside of the normal environment that I would present those stories to was very cool. So very excited about that.Mischa Z: 07:24 Um, that was one thing I wanted to talk about there. I'm not doing a good job of what I was going to talk about what I talked about and then you get it. So another really cool thing I've been meaning to, you know, I just was able to let go of a lot of expectations and a lot of, um, need to be done or need to have this done. Or I was feeling a lot of pressure coming out of the summit of needing to have email sequences done. And that's really funny, man. I I've been wanting to get this email out to the summit audience about, Hey, it was recommended to me that the first email you can send that should be easy as, Hey, I've got this podcast, listen, check it out, follow subscribe. Well, it took me 10 days to get that email out.Mischa Z: 08:33 I finally, well, I've got it prepped. It's ready to go. And now I just, my who and active campaign need to cooperate with me so it can go out, but effectively it's written and teed up in the sequence, but I woke up this morning convicted. I just knew in my heart, you're getting this done day today. Just get it done, get it teed up, get it ready. And um, I guess I want to, what I'm going to say in that regard is I knew that it was going to get done, that it was okay. That it's all right. That it took 10 days instead of one day. Um, what else? Just this pressure it's like this pressure valve was released. It was just like, it's all okay. Like you're where, you're where you're supposed to be. You're learning what you need to learn and you are where you are and you can, yeah, you can take extremely messy, messy action and still be, I dunno if productive is the right word, but carry a message effective.Mischa Z: 09:53 There we go. Still be effective. So just internalizing that at least in the moment feels really, really good. Um, so there you have it. I talked about, um, camping, so excited, kind of have these E uh, episodes teed up and ready to go. Um, I feel like at least I've had glimmers of finding my voice glimpses of finding my voice via speaking on a summit and somebody else's podcast. So that's kind of fun. And uh, yeah, I got that last. I got my email, my email to the summit audience finally is done the first one. It took me 10 days versus one. Anyhow, hopefully the next email will take a day. Peace out, everybody enjoy the ride.

‘Do you think I should wear this dress or the one I showed you before?', shouted Shareen … even though we really should have left for the wedding 25 minutes ago! It's only fashionable for the bride to be late for a wedding, right? After saying the first one was ‘fine' (typical guy) … I jumped in the car & punched in post code into the sat nav … waiting patiently & trying my best to not honk the horn. Then as soon as her backside hit the seat …. I zoomed off.I listened to directions of the trusted sat nav but we both know that something disastrously had gone wrong when it finally said … ‘You've reached your destination'.In this week's podcast episode, I share where ended up & how it's taught me a vital lesson One that I'm sure will help you to Get Out Your Way when you're growing your business.Hint hint … small changes can make a difference!Listen in & see if we got there before they said ‘I Do'!Best wishes as always.Osmaan---Here's the extra links & resources for this episode:* Take the free Get Out Your Way Quiz here.* Book in for a free virtual cuppa (15 mins) here.* Ask a question for the podcast here.* Discover which of the 8 Entrepreneurial Superpowers you have through the Wealth Dynamics Profile test here* Connect with me on LinkedIn; Instagram & on my Facebook Page here. I remember the first time I was ever exposed to domestic violence. My home life growing up was very much non-violent. I was the oldest of 3 boys, and of course we fought sometimes just like all brothers do. But really it was more arguing than fighting. We never got violent with each other. And my parents? I could never imagine either of them even thinking about hitting the other. It's just not something that would ever be considered. They had been married for 56 years when my dad passed away in 2016. So I guess you could say I grew up pretty sheltered from that kind of thing. I just never saw it. But there was a time when I had a regular job, working in an office with probably 30 or 40 other people. This was quite a few years ago, and it was here in Florida, in downtown Tampa. I went in to work one day, and that morning I was surprised to see one of my co-workers, a young lady probably around 25 or so, had come to work with a bad black eye. Actually it was more than her eye – much of one side of her face was bruised and swollen. And when I saw her, in my sheltered little world I actually wondered what had happened. I didn't ask her about it, because we weren't what you would call “close” friends, and it was really none of my business anyway. But later on as I heard others discussing it, I realized that she had been beaten by her boyfriend. And at first I was really surprised – like why would anyone do that? She's such a nice girl, always smiling, always friendly. Didn't make sense. Then I got angry. I imagined what it would be like if someone did that to my wife, or one of my kids. So that was my first exposure to the results of domestic violence. But the reality is that it's very, very common. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, more than 1 out of 3 women and 1 out of 4 men in the US will experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner. That's the situation that Shareen found herself in. She was in constant fear of Jerome's anger and his violence. And she didn't think there was any way out for her. Finally, she confided in a co-worker – and neither of them had any idea of the terrifying experience they were in for that day. If you're in an abusive or violent relationship, please tell someone. If you don't have a person in your life you can talk to directly, here in the US you can get in touch with the National Domestic Violence Hotline. You can call them at 800-799-7233, or you can text the word START to 88788, or you can chat live with someone on their website at THEHOTLINE.ORG. Shareen Rivera is a keynote speaker. She is on a mission to unite and empower people to believe in themselves again to transform any part of their life they are not fulfilled in. Publishing her first book four years ago with only the intention to heal from her abusive ten-year marriage, opened the door to public speaking opportunities that allowed her to share her story. She has found that sharing is truly an integral part of healing for not only yourself but also for others. A wound cannot heal without air. It is through our stories that we turn our pain into a purpose and plant seeds in others that will last and one day grow. By sharing our story we give others permission to share theirs. Every person and business has a story, and she has learned the art of writing a book to brand both. Connect with Shareen! Bridgerton. You binge watched it yet?We did & I surprisingly really liked it … especially considering I used to say, ‘I don’t like period dramas or things set in the really olden days’.It’s now been the most watched Netflix shows since it was released with 82 million views too – which blew my mind, as it seems like everyone in ‘The Ton’ has been partaking in this year’s ‘social season’.So why am I sharing this with you, my dear reader?Because I think there’s a fair few things we can learn & be inspired from it, as business owners. In this week’s podcast episode (which you can think of as being an audio version of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers), I reveal these to you. (Don’t worry there’s no plot reveals or spoilers)Enjoy it & I’m sure you will see how ‘You Must Make Haste’ & stop dilly-dallying with over-thinking things too much & under-doing!Best wishes as always.Osmaanp.s. – our favourite character was actually Eloise. Shareen shares her story of how she overcame domestic abuse by writing her first book. She healed from trauma and now helps others focus on their message and how they want to tell their story.
My heart was pounding & my fingers felt like icicles, as we were riding around Central Park in New York in a horse-drawn carriage on a freezing cold winters evening. This was THE moment when I was about to make the biggest commitment of my life.‘Shareen, will you marry me & we’ll see if it works for a few months & if not, then we’ll go our separate ways?’Now that is some proposal right? But you’ll be glad to hear, it wasn’t what I said!Because would that really have shown that I was truly all in & committed?Nope .. not at all!Business owners can fall into that trap though, when they commit to something & start to make traction, to only then stop doing what they were doing & move onto something else instead.Or they give themselves a time-limit to make it work before they give up. Guess what that does to your mindset … shows you’re not really truly committed! So have you done either of these in the past?In this week’s podcast episode, I dive into these & share some practical ways that you can be more committed to yourself & your business this year.Enjoy!----Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:* Register for the free online training here* Take the free Get Out Your Way Quiz here.* Book in for a free virtual cuppa (15 mins) here.* Discover which of the 8 Entrepreneurial Superpowers you have through the Wealth Dynamics Profile test here* Connect with me on LinkedIn; Instagram & on my Facebook Page here. I nearly got strangled, all because of a tub of clotted cream. What was meant to be a 5-minute trip across the road to Tesco …. ended up taking more than 40 minutes. Shareen was about to go crazy when she heard the chap on the door … think it was me … but in fact it was our guests who had arrived! And there she was still in her PJs ! Because whilst I was away, she was frantically running around the place doing some last-minute tidying & also dealing with a ‘poo-nami’ situation with our new-born Zakariya. So why did I take so long? Honestly … it wasn’t because I went for a cheeky coffee or to meet a friend. It was because of the stupid way that I was making bad decision …after bad decision … all in the pursuit of getting the clotted cream. You can hear me tell the full story in this week’s podcast episode. But more importantly, you’ll understand how the type of thinking, is something that you may be also doing when it comes to making decisions in your business. So give it a listen too, so you can hear recount the tale of this fateful afternoon & to see if I managed to get the clotted cream … or not!?! -----Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:* Take the free Get Out Your Way Quiz here.* Book in for a free virtual cuppa (15 mins) here.* Discover which of the 8 Entrepreneurial Superpowers you have through the Wealth Dynamics Profile test here* Want to find out about the next 90 day Mastermind?* Connect with me on LinkedIn; Instagram & on my Facebook Page here. It’s been all go in our back garden, with another one of my lovely wife’s ‘projects’ being in full swing this week. The sound of chainsaws has filled the air, as our massive trees have been getting chopped down in height. As I took a break between coaching calls to see how the things were going, it struck me just how much the trees were actually blocking the sun from flowing into our garden. But I never realised how much of an issue it was …. until they were done!It also gave Shareen another … ‘I told you so’ moments & yet again proving that she’s 99.999% right, because I couldn’t see the need for doing it in the first place! What also struck me was the different approaches Kenny (the tree chopper) was using. Sometimes chopping small sections away at a time & other times it felts like the whole tree was going to fall down on top of the house! So in this week’s podcast, I talk more about what we can do when we’re finding it difficult to see the wood from the trees in our business. Plus why sometimes we need to use different approaches & strategies to get the results we want. Also, a little reminder for you …..If you’re looking to get even more clarity with what you’re doing to grow your business & want to Get Out Your Way, then the pre-launch from my upcoming brand new 4-week Accelerator for a small group now. ‘Will you marry me?’Now that’s certainly been one of the biggest & most important question I’ve ever asked in my life.So of course, I thought about it long & hard, before I popped the question to Shareen whilst on a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park on a lovely winters evening in New York. (A true romantic I am, right?).But honestly I think some people make too much of a song & dance around making decisions … especially when it comes to business.Because most of those decisions aren’t ‘forever forever’ decisions, right?I’ve been having fun this week having 1-2-1 clarity calls with clients ahead of the 90 day Mastermind kicking off next week & helping them to make decisions on what they’re going to focus on. And I’ve loved seeing the huge sigh of relief when I’ve reminded some of them that their goals don’t have to feel like ‘forever’ goals. But instead to focus on goals that will help them move forward & achieve even just that next stage of growth in their business. In this week’s podcast, I talk about this even more with lots of examples & practical suggestions on how you can get out your way, if you’re going in circles with some decisions at the moment.Listen in here.Because I would love to see you take more consistent action, instead of worrying about things like … ‘I need to have the perfect niche before I can put myself out there more’; ‘what website theme is the best to use?’; ‘have I chosen the right colour for my logo?’; ‘should I be doing what others in my industry are doing?’ …. Enjoy the podcast & I look forward to hearing how it helps you.Best wishes as always.Osmaan----Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:* Want to find out about the next 90 day Mastermind?* Take the free Get Out Your Way Quiz here.* Book in for a free virtual cuppa (15 mins) here.* Discover which of the 8 Entrepreneurial Superpowers you have through the Wealth Dynamics Profile test here* Connect with me on LinkedIn; Instagram & on my Facebook Page here. We tucked the three boys up into bed on Saturday & got ourselves ready for what would be ‘date night’ …. with a difference.Because the tables got turned & I was getting put in the ‘hot seat’.We hit ‘record’ & Shareen was in host mode, ready to grill me with the questions that had been flooding in from my clients; podcast listeners, family & friends. And what a fun night (early morning) it ended up being, as those questions really did make me think & sparked some deep conversations between us.It truly was a perfect way to celebrate the 100th episode of The Get Out Your Way Podcast with you … especially as I got to Shareen with you all … who’s been a huge part of my business & of course life ;)There was a mix of personal, business, mindset questions … all of which I’m sure you’ll find useful for you, your life & your business. As there were nearly 30 questions & I wanted to do justice to each of them, I decided to split the podcast into 2 parts for you.Part 1 is now ready & waiting for you … here’s a sneak peek of the questions asked & at what time:The lightening round (3m 42s) ‘What is the most common thing you get asked to advise on & what’s the answer to that?’ (4m 52s)‘What’s the most frequently used & helpful mindset tool Osmaan uses himself & with his clients?’ (7m 26s)‘What tools do you use to motivate yourself when everything around you creates barriers to progress?’ (10m 16s)‘Osmaan is brilliant at bringing stories to life … how does he do it? … Does he ever struggle to find ideas for the show?’ (12m 16s)‘How does he manage to go from one hat to other, and still keep on smiling, at such short notice sometimes?’ (16m)'What advice would you give to someone who is starting out as a life coach. Specifically around how to find clients?' (19m 25s)‘Are there any drawbacks/negative things about being a coach?’ (23m 4s)‘Are you able to switch off from "Coaching" at home or do you find yourself reaching for post it notes when a decision needs to be made about something?’ (29m 22s)‘Do you apply the advice/methods you give to your clients to yourself and your family?’ (34m 55s)‘You’ve had a huge positive influence on the lives of many people over the years. Who has had the biggest positive influence on yourself?’ (37m 16s)‘You are always so enthusiastic and positive! What inspires you and keeps you going every day?’ (44m 56s)‘What are you most proud of in your business and life?’ (47m)'Ever regret leaving the corporate world? If you were still there, what role do you think you’d be doing now?’ (50m 30s)'Given your experience in the corporate world, what is the biggest learning/experience you have gained in the entrepreneurial world that you would give back to the corporate world people to apply?’ (55m)I told you that some of those were tough questions & definitely put me on the spot.So come join us for ‘date night’ & tune into the episode … either by listening to it all (especially if you want some laughs & to hear the banter between Shareen & I … including her perspectives on how I answered some of the questions) or jump into the particular questions that spark your interest the most.We went ‘high tech’ for this episode & even recorded it as a video. So if you want to see me squirm when asked some of the questions, check out the short videos over on LinkedIn, Instagram or Facebook (links below).I’d love to hear what you take away from this episode & if you think Shareen should make another guest appearance, so drop me an e-mail or message via social media to share your thoughts.Enjoy & remember the conversation continues in part 2 next week, with even more juicy questions.-----------Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:* Book in for a free virtual cuppa (15 mins) here.* Feeling stuck or wanting to see if a coach can help you grow your business? ‘Can I give you some feedback?’, were the words that flowed out of my mouth to Shareen, as I was driving her home after we’d just had a fun dinner with some of my school friends. Her face said it all & then she responded with …. ‘Osmaan … you are not my HR Manager!’Whenever I hear the word ‘feedback’, I automatically think back to that moment many years ago when we’d just started dating. Luckily (for me), she still married me after it!Feedback is such an emotive thing, right? Because it’s normally feels very personal. And as a business owner, we can sometimes shy away from giving feedback to those we’re working with & instead just put up with feeling frustrated when things aren’t going the way you’d like!It can truly can a gift too … both when you’re on the receiving end & when giving it.But like in my case, it can go disastrously wrong, even if you’ve got the best intentions … if you deliver it in a not so elegant way.In this week’s podcast episode, let’s dive into this topic together.I’ll even share with you the 5 key things that every piece of feedback needs to contain for it to be useful & for you to avoid being physically or verbally slapped back!Plus, it’s not just about the conversation which admittedly can be awkward for both of you … but what happens after it? That’s where it really matters & can make the difference. So tune into the episode & you can hear more about the feedback I was giving Shareen & how my school friends still to this day tease me about it at any opportunity they can!---Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:* Feeling stuck or wanting to see if a coach can help you grow your business? January’s closing out with the 21st episode of Fucking Fine, I’ll See You Soon. My co-host, Kelly Ladlee (@keltastical on Insta), and I are basement bitchin’ about having a "shit memory," being alone vs. doing things alone, and the “it is what it is,” mentality. She Leads Podcast: Leadership Empowerment for Women of Color
Welcome to She Leads Podcast Season 5, Episode 12! This episode of She Leads Podcast features Shareen Rivera founder of Rising Above Writing Services. Shareen Rivera is an Author, Speaker, and TV Host who leads her life like the Boss she is. To hear Shareen’s take on leadership, listen to her interview as she discusses the importance of leading with vulnerability, letting go, and being a living testament of your message. Shareen Rivera Bio Since birth, Poet, Shareen Rivera, has had to overcome hurdles that have tested her strength, both physically and mentally. She was born to homeless, mentally ill and addicted parents. Thankfully, God’s undying mercy came forth in her life, and with it, Shareen’s grandparents were given the strength to raise her in a home of love. Although she was safe with her grandparents, life still had more heartache to throw on her path. Shareen married young into an abusive marriage, and not long after the abuse escalated. The births of her two children, however, was more than enough encouragement to end her marriage and start a new life. For years, Shareen felt like her vulnerability was her greatest weakness. However, through bringing all of her insecurities, fears, and doubts to the surface, she has not only grown as a woman and mother but has also helped other women to do the same through her poetry, writing and story of survival. Shareen is on a never-ending mission to show other women who have faced similar trouble that they are not alone. It is possible to start anew, just as she has done. Nicole Walker’s Interview Commentary I really enjoyed this interview with Shareen and I hope you did as well. I agree with Shareen’s suggestion to release control and seek the help we need to achieve our goals. As Shareen mentioned, this can be difficult to let go especially when we know what we want and how we want it. However, if we desire to achieve more we must place our focus on the things we do best, outsource the rest. Having the ability to accomplish a task, does not mean this is where we should be putting our efforts. Understanding what’s really important, making the necessary decisions to let go where needed, and choosing to focus on our gifts and passions is how we can live a fulfilled life. A quote by Naval Ravikant reads, “Most of life is a search for who and what needs you the most.” I admire Shareen’s decision to add an element of social entrepreneurship into her business by hiring other women who have overcome domestic violence. Shareen’s choice to use her business as a platform to elevate other women is a selfless act. Leaders reach back and pull others up, and Shareen is definitely exhibiting her leadership skills by doing just that. Shareen discussed how times are changing and women are supporting each other like never before, which is awesome to see and amazing to be a part of! A quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reads, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others’?” I can relate Shareen’s experience with loosing herself in her marriage and forgetting who she was, as I experienced the same. What I find most interesting about losing myself, is that I didn’t realize I lost myself until I started to find myself again. Love can be a beautiful thing in a nurturing environment, then unfortunately it can be dangerous when broken people decide to connect. It is extremely important that we continue to love and nurture ourselves while also loving those around us. IF we forget to include ourselves in the equation THEN we allow ourselves to live unhealthy lives. A quote by Ernest Hemingway reads, “The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too”. Nicole Walker’s Takeaway of the Week Shareen mentioned how being vulnerable makes us better leaders. Accepting the fact that we will never please everyone, provides the courage we need to be our unapologetic selves. We must focus on our intentions and follow our hearts, and avoid trying to fit into a mold that does not suit us. This is how we live our best lives! I will make it my business to not worry about what others think, because I want to attract the people that love me for me. I aim to live a life of freedom while having genuine connections with those around me, and I will continue to remind myself that being vulnerable is how I can make this happen. A quote by Michelle Obama reads, “I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values – and follow my own moral compass – then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.” Nicole Walker’s Leadership Challenge My leadership challenge for you would be to think about the one thing you can take away from this episode and adopt into your life. I know it’s hard to absorb too much information at one time and it’s even harder to try and implement too many changes at once. When I attend a training or listen to podcasts I aim to walk away with a least one thing that stuck out to me and one way that I can change as a result. I challenge you to do the same! Don’t forget to subscribe to She Leads Podcast for first access to future episodes. And also, like and share this episode of She Leads Podcast entitled “Embody Your Message with Shareen Rivera”. A few months back, it was a fairly typical morning in the Sharif household … classic Home Alone style. Even though bags were packed & clothes were sorted the night before … something always seems to disappear over night. On this particular morning, it was one of Aaron’s shoes. Shareen was running around downstairs hunting for it, whilst I doing my best to help look for it upstairs … whilst hobbling around in my crutches at the time. As she finally found it (she got this proper superpower of finding things in places – even after I’ve looked there), as they are flying out the door in all the commotion, Kaiyas’s words catch my ear … ‘You’ve got to have a growth mindset Aaron’, as the door slams shut behind them. Did I just hear right? Did my 6 year old son just share some profound words of wisdom with younger little brother? I couldn’t wait till he get back from school, so I could ask him ….’How do you know about growth mindsets’? Well it turns out that they’ve been learning about it in his primary school & he summed it so well. Then he flummoxed me even more by saying, ‘Is that not what you’re always talking about during your ‘people calls’?' (what he calls my coaching client sessions). He was right … at the core of everything I do is all about helping business owners to really focus on developing a growth mindset … instead of operating from a fixed mindset. And it makes a huge impact on EVERYTHING & I really mean EVERYTHING. In today’s super short podcast episode, you’ll quickly get to see what way your mindset is swinging, when it comes to your beliefs; focus; effort; challenges; mistakes & feedback. Then take what you discover & make sure that you do all you can to either move or consistently stay in that growth mindset zone. Here’s the extra links & resources for this episode:*Discover which business growth block is holding you back by taking this free quiz. * Join the FREE Facebook Group to access other resources & connect with like-minded business owners here: www.rapidtransformation.co.uk/facebook.
