What about nap time(42:17) Discussion of signs and treatments for menopausal symptoms and supplements(48:13) Common health risks for women in their late 30s and 40s, and related medical tests(51:39) What ingredients are most effective for aging skin, adjusting the skin care routine(57:50) Reducing fine lines, wrinkles and age spotsKEY TAKEAWAYS:The challenge with weight loss after age 40 is primarily due to the decline of estrogen and progesterone production, which reduces insulin sensitivity, impairs sleep, and alters fat distribution, making fat removal (not just weight loss) slower and more difficult. Sustainable fat loss prioritizes health over rapid results.Low estrogen and progesterone levels can impact mood, sleep, and appetite, leading to an increased desire for comfort foods. Phytoestrogens (e.g., wild yam, black cohosh) and fiber-rich foods (e.g., cruciferous vegetables) support hormone metabolism and mood stability.Women over 40 need ~1 gram of protein per pound of body weight daily (4-6 ounces per meal, 2-3 ounces per snack) to maintain muscle and bone health. Resistance training, weight-bearing exercise, and minerals (e.g., magnesium) are critical.Low estrogen levels can cause skin dryness and wrinkles. Hydration, vitamin C, retinol, and hyaluronic acid improve skin appearance. Consistent skincare routines (cleanse, tone, treat, moisturize) reduce the appearance of age and Gua Sha massage may reduce menopausal symptoms like hot flashes.QUOTES:        (06:25) "There is fast weight loss at any age, provided you don't care how long it lasts or what happens to your health." - Jenn Trepeck(08:20) "Estrogen, the presence of estrogen and increased estrogen when we're younger in life, keeps us more insulin sensitive. It keeps us more metabolically fit." - Jenn Trepeck(21:27) "We want to aim for a gram of protein for every pound of body weight." - Jenn Trepeck(27:01) "We have less wiggle room. That estrogen was our cushion and when you eliminate the cushion, you've got less wiggle room." - Jenn Trepeck(31:00) “Bottom line, your gut is responsible for nutrient absorption and communicating all over the body.” Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramHormones and Body Composition (feat. Retinol is a form of vitamin A, which is essential for healthy skin. It has many benefits such as smoothing wrinkles, exfoliating dead cells, clearing pores, and fading dark spots. Retinol works by stimulating the production of collagen, which is the protein that gives your skin strength and structure, and by speeding up the turnover of skin cells, which means it helps remove old cells from the surface of your skin and reveal fresh ones underneath. How to use retinol? What should you be aware of before using a retinol? What is the difference between retinoid and retinol? Retinol lovers, your skincare prayers have been answered! Kelly sits down with Medik8's Daniel Isaacs (the genius with suspiciously perfect skin), who finally explains why your face might be peeling off when using vitamin A products. From comparing retinoids to coffee shots (retinaldehyde is a single espresso, who knew?!) to the shocking confession that you CAN use retinol in summer, this chat is full of "wait, I've been doing it wrong" moments.Daniel's refreshingly basic routine honestly makes us question why we own 47 products when he's getting better results with three. He breaks down the only trio of skincare essentials actually worth your money, and explains his "start low, go slow" philosophy that'll save both your face and your credit card from unnecessary trauma! Hearing the buzz around skin cycling? We have been too. This week, we're joined by Dr. Whitney Bowe as she breaks down the concept of skin cycling. Listen in as she discusses her treatment philosophy, what it means for skin routines to be "smarter not more," and offers valuable advice for curious dermatologists looking to challenge conventional wisdom. Each Thursday, join Dr. Raja and Dr. Hadar, board-certified dermatologists, as they share the latest evidence-based research in integrative dermatology. For access to CE/CME courses, become a member at LearnSkin.com. Whitney Bowe, MD is a renowned, board-certified dermatologist and scientist based in New York. She is one of the most in-demand dermatologists in the country, in addition to being a founding member of the Dermstore Medical Advisory Board and a distinguished thought leader in the space. For the past seven years, her practice has been fully booked and capped, but now with her skin-care line, Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty, you can bring the doctor home with you. Dr. Bowe championed a focus on the skin-gut-mind connection. Her “three-dimensional” approach to skincare—treating skin from both the outside and inside—challenged long-held beliefs within the field of dermatology. She is also responsible for bringing the viral skin-care concept of Skin Cycling to the world, which has amassed more than 3 billion TikTok views. With a deep knowledge of the skin, skin care products and dermatology, Dr. Bowe is constantly quoted in top media outlets like Vogue, The New York Times and Good Morning America. It's about time we talk about aging. First, I talk about Nikki Glaser's recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and react to her apparent plan to get a facelift at age 40, as well as other comments she has made about aging and her lifelong insecurities. Then, I talk about my love of skincare and the potential it has to slow down signs of aging (and whether that is even something we SHOULD strive for)! I talk about my recent exploration of Retinol, and bring in the founder of Dieux Skin, Charlotte Palermino, to give a thorough Retinol rundown, including tips, tricks, and product recommendations!
