If you thought the kick-off to season 5 was depressing, just get a load of this next movie. Movie number 2 on the season 5 Movie Challenge is Antwone Fisher (Derek Luke), the story of a young black navy man coming up and dealing with his troubling past. Fortunately for Antwone, he is introduced to Dr. Jerome Davenport (Denzel Washington), who helps guide his journey to find himself.
Katie Holmes, who directed, co-wrote with Phaedon A. Papadopoulos, and starred in 'Rare Objects' sat down with her co-stars Julia Mayorga (American Rust), Derek Luke (upcoming in Disney+ series The Crossover), and Alan Cumming (host of hit series The Traitors) to discuss the importance of never giving up, being okay not being okay, and taking things in one day at a time in their latest film. Holmes, who said the story is about friendship, also reiterated the importance of self-discovery. Adding that this project was one, she knew she had to adapt and direct. Meanwhile, Mayorga said while her character goes through a personal tragedy, she enjoyed the freedom, as an actor, to explore the character and watch her find her strength. Meanwhile, Luke and Cumming said they were happy to play characters that were emotional and flawed, with personal problems to overcome -- yet, one trait they were both particularly proud of was the way their characters were supportive of the women in the film. While all of the cast reflected on various themes in the film during the interviews, for me, the most important thing to take away was that it's okay to fall apart; we can glue ourselves back together. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Shamindri De Sayrah Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: An adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro's novel of the same name, Rare Objects is a story about friendship that centers around a young woman who reclaims her own sense of self through her journey of self discovery that involves a new job, new friends and healing. *Rare Objects opens in Theaters and is available on demand Friday, April 14th, 2023 from IFC Films. It Runs in the FamilyLike father, like son.For years, Derek Luke, a police officer in Kearney, Nebraska, valiantly tried to dissuade his son, Braylen, from pursuing a career in law enforcement. Derek and his wife, Sarah, knew that there were less dangerous careers for their son to pursue, and they knew Braylen also had an interest in engineering. So, why not gently lead him away from law enforcement?Because as the parents finally realized midway through Braylen's high school years, that if God was leading Braylen to serve Him through law enforcement, who were they to attempt to change His plans? So, the plan changed, and Derek began to show Braylen more about law enforcement, including opportunities to bring him along on police calls. During his senior year in high school, Braylen would have “police talk” conversations with his dad, and Braylen's commitment to being a police officer only intensified.Once Braylen headed off to Cedarville University to pursue a degree in criminal justice, it seemed as though he would follow in his father's footsteps. Perhaps, though, he didn't realize how closely. After graduating from Cedarville, Braylen joined Derek's police force in Kearney – wearing the same badge his dad wore 25 years prior. Derek and Braylen have the unique opportunity to work alongside each other – Derek going from “dad” to “Lieutenant Luke.” But what keeps them steady is their commitment to their faith in Christ, sustaining them on the hard days.

Macy, Ed O'Neil, Kristen Bell, Mark Pellegrino, Said Taghmaoui, Natalia Nogulich & Geoff Pierson How is the world wrong about Spartan? From Andras: I've heard people call this a “fascist film”. It certainly depicts the cold machinations of the the US intelligence apparatus when they kick into action to “cherchez la femme” but not in any celebratory way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America:_The_First_AvengerIn the present day, scientists in the Arctic uncover an old, frozen aircraft. In March 1942, Nazi lieutenant general Johann Schmidt and his men steal a mysterious relic called the Tesseract,[N 2] which possesses untold godly powers, from the town of Tønsberg in German-occupied Norway. In New York City, Steve Rogers is rejected for World War II military recruitment due to his various health and physical problems. While attending an exhibition of future technologies with his best friend, Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes, Rogers again attempts to enlist. Overhearing Rogers' conversation with Barnes about representing his country in the war, Dr. Abraham Erskine allows Rogers to enlist. He is recruited into the Strategic Scientific Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Colonel Chester Phillips, and British agent Peggy Carter. Phillips is unconvinced by Erskine's claims that Rogers is the right person for the procedure but relents after seeing Rogers jump on a grenade to save his comrades, unaware that it is a test. The night before the treatment, Erskine reveals to Rogers that Schmidt underwent the procedure prematurely and suffered permanent side-effects.Schmidt and Dr. Arnim Zola harness the energies of the Tesseract, intending to use the power to fuel Zola's inventions, mounting an offensive that will change the world. Schmidt discovers Erskine's location and sends assassin Heinz Kruger to kill him. Erskine subjects Rogers to the super-soldier treatment, injecting him with a special serum and dosing him with "vita-rays". After Rogers emerges from the experiment taller and more muscular, an undercover Kruger kills Erskine and flees with a vial of the serum. Rogers pursues and captures Kruger, but the assassin avoids interrogation by committing suicide with a cyanide capsule. With Erskine dead and his super-soldier formula lost, U.S. Senator Brandt has Rogers tour the nation in a colorful costume as "Captain America" to promote war bonds while scientists study him and attempt to reverse-engineer the formula. In 1943, while on tour in Italy performing for active servicemen, Rogers learns that Barnes' unit was MIA in a battle against Schmidt's forces. Refusing to believe that Barnes is dead, Rogers has Carter and engineer Howard Stark fly him behind enemy lines to mount a solo rescue attempt. Rogers infiltrates the fortress of Schmidt's Hydra division, freeing Barnes and the other prisoners. Rogers confronts Schmidt, who removes a mask to reveal a red, skull-like visage that earned him the sobriquet "the Red Skull". Schmidt escapes and Rogers returns to base with the freed soldiers.Rogers recruits Barnes, Dum Dum Dugan, Gabe Jones, Jim Morita, James Montgomery Falsworth, and Jacques Dernier to attack other known Hydra bases. Stark outfits Rogers with advanced equipment, most notably a circular shield made of vibranium, a rare, nearly indestructible metal. Rogers and his team sabotage various Hydra operations, while he and Carter begin to fall in love. In 1945, the team assaults a train carrying Zola. Rogers and Jones succeed in capturing Zola, but Barnes falls from the train to his apparent death.[N 3] Using information extracted from Zola, the final Hydra stronghold is located, and Rogers leads an attack to stop Schmidt from using weapons of mass destruction on major American cities. Rogers climbs aboard Schmidt's aircraft as it takes off. During the subsequent fight, the Tesseract's container is damaged. Schmidt physically handles the Tesseract, which opens a wormhole into space, sucking him into it. The Tesseract burns through the plane and is lost in the ocean. Seeing no way to land the plane without the risk of detonating its weapons, Rogers radios Carter and says goodbye to her before crashing in the Arctic. Stark later recovers the Tesseract from the ocean floor but is unable to locate Rogers or the aircraft, presuming him dead.Rogers awakens in a 1940s-styled hospital room. Hearing a radio broadcast of a baseball game that he attended in 1941, Rogers grows suspicious, flees outside and finds himself in present-day Times Square, where S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury informs him that he has been "asleep" for nearly 70 years. In a post-credits scene, Fury approaches Rogers and proposes a mission with worldwide ramifications.[N 4]Web: https://theguysreview.simplecast.com/EM: theguysreviewpod@gmail.comIG: @TheGuysReviewPod TW: @The_GuysReview FB: https://facebook.com/TheGuysReviewPod/YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYKXJhq9LbQ2VfR4K33kT9Q Please, Subscribe, rate and review us wherever you get your podcasts from!! During the past two years, consumers have signed up for health apps and wearable technology, like FitBits or Apple Watches, in record numbers. Everybody is looking for something—anything—to help calm their minds, sleep better, or boost productivity. Meanwhile, a new generation of entrepreneurs is taking wearable health technology a step further to solve some of society's biggest neurological challenges—including depression and traumatic brain injury—as well as find ways to enhance our quality of life.In this episode of Disruptors, an RBC podcast, co-host Trinh Theresa Do tackles the recent explosion of neurotechnology in Canada with her guest Derek Luke, CEO of InteraXon. InteraXon is the maker of Muse, a popular EEG-powered headband that senses brain activity through meditation exercises and provides real-time feedback to users' phones or tablets. The idea is a simple but powerful one: by leveraging neurotechnology, consumers can find meaningful ways to live a healthier, happier life. But this technology is not without its limitations, as Derek and Theresa discuss. There are important privacy considerations in handling sensitive data—and ethical considerations with more intrusive forms of neurotech. Still, there's little doubt that as brain-computer interfaces and headsets like Muse's grow in popularity, the era of superhuman cognition may be just around the corner.EPISODE NOTES:To learn more about Muse and its brain-sensing headband, follow this link. In the episode, Derek talks about some of the ways in which Muse and its EEG technology is being used in research. To read about those projects, click here. Also mentioned was the University of Toronto's Creative Destruction Lab, and its new Neuro Stream for entrepreneurs, scientists, researchers and investors. Finally, they review Vince Staples and Mustard' new single “Magic”, Denzel Curry's “Walkin” single and review the highly impressive Intimidated EP from KAYTRANADA. In the second half, they review Friday Night Lights, the 2004 sports drama film co-written and directed by Peter Berg. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Derek Luke, Lucas Black and Connie Britton; they dive into how this a very realistic sports film based on the daily pressures these players faced on the field; when it comes to expectations in Texas. They also discuss Derek Luke's phenomenal performance as Boobie Miles, why this film is a Top-5 sports film ever and why every character felt as though they were perfectly placed in the right spot; as it had to happen; with Peter Berg having the right vision for this movie.
Old rich Ben Kingsley from New York City is dying of cancer. So he pays to have his mind put in Ryan Reynolds' body which he's told was made in a lab. But was it really? This 2015 sci fi action movie is pretty good. It's like Transcendence meets Jason Bourne. But Alex Tourje and Rob Newton have two great alternate endings to share with you.
Football Football Football! Watching the entire television showing and this movie, I can safely say the show is better, however Friday Night Lights (2004) does have it's merits and like the show, it has clear eyes, full hearts and it can not lose! Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Connie Britton, Lucas Black, Derek Luke, and Tim McGraw. Directed by Peter Berg

#DerekLuke and #ErikaAlexander talk about their new movie from Blumhouse Television. Set in a world where sudden economic collapse has created massive chaos and a total dismantling of the country, the film focuses on two families and what they are willing to do to survive. This is an intense film, ripe for expansion - similar to #ThePurge franchise, only much closer to reality in American and around the world today. With companies having to shut down (and many going out of business) due to quarantine, the pandemic itself and protests, it's easy to see how such events could eventually lead to a long-term societal collapse. The primary family in this movie, headed by Luke and Alexander, are ill-prepared for that reality, which they soon unfortunately realize. However, their neighbors, with #SamTrammell at the helm, can offer assistance. Though it's at a very high price! Available on #Epix & for Digital Purchase via Paramount Home Entertainment on Dec. 10th . . . . Personal note: This is a great movie and concept, and getting to speak with Erika (Maxine! What!) and Derek was another delight. The #AntwoneFisher movie was such a great debut, and I remember what a huge deal his introduction was. And, naturally, I grew up watching #LivingSingle. So at the end of the interview (which was not recorded) to have them thank me and *ErikaAlexander* thank *me* for "holding it down for Black women and girls" - needless to say I was so grateful and flabbergasted. #Derek and Erika are two legends of film and TV in general and #BlackHollywood, and it's wonderful to see them thriving! . . . . . #ZamaniWilder #PeytonJackson #SamTrammell #JessiCase #CharityJordan #VinceMattis #AliLeRoi #AllisonBuckmelter #NicolasBuckmelter #legends #iconic #filmhistory #blumhouse #blumhousetelevision #jasonblum #horrormovies #thrillermovies #blackfilms #epix #movies #trueblood #thepurge --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/support

Glory Road was unappreciated by the critics and by the crowds 15 years ago, but we think they were out to lunch. This is one of the best pure sports movies we've ever covered. Director James Gartner and his team do a good job getting the facts right about this true story and they certainly captured the emotions of how these young men dealt with brutal racism in the '60s. The NCAA basketball action is just terrific and the actors/athletes are naturals, especially Derek Luke. Josh Lucas is fine as the coach, but Luke dominates as his feisty point guard. So whether or not the 2021 March Madness goes off without any hitches, fire up our chat about a well-executed true underdog story. And how about some Twitter time? Sure. Hi co star, Helena Zengel is terrific as Johanna- an orphaned girl with nowhere to go. They travel hundreds of miles on a pretty breathtakingly beautiful journey across the south to find what is left of her family only to realize the cliched and inevitable conclusion. One of the best middle of the road films of the year. (6/10) SOUL Disney Pixar films need no introduction, and this one is no exception. Jaimee Foxx and Tina Fey head up this emotional and colorful ride as we follow Joe (Foxx) has lost his passion for music and, through spoiler heavy moments, is separated from his body and must find his way back, while also helping a soul with potential to learn who she is and her passions. Some WONDERFUL moments await you as well as a great score. One of the better Pixar resume items. (8/10) WONDER WOMAN 1984 Patty Jenkins, WHAT HAPPENED? That’s certainly an appropriate question. Wonder Woman (2017) was, in many ways, a huge success. Box office and critically success found Wonder Woman in droves. Well paced, well acted and very well directed- certainly the best of DC as far as the DCEU is concerned. Yet WW1984 is almost the opposite of the qualities listed above. Gal Gadot, Chris Pine both reprise their roles and are joined by Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig. We now fast forward to the 80’s where Diana must face two new enemies: Max Lord and the Cheetah. If you’re a fan or have fond memories of the 80’s then this movie is absolutely for you, because it isn’t for anyone else. Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. He used his childhood imagination and survival skills to create a life of his dreams. We hear the incredible story of how he turned a security job at 20th Century Fox, into a quarter million dollar screenplay, and a long career as a professional screenwriter. On this installment of 'MULTIMEDIOCRITY: The Broadcast!,' Talley and Doofin (who's doped up and down a finger) discuss the mostly good nostalgic escapism that is Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE, as well as the greatness of both a Spielberg chase sequence and said director's recent secret weapon, Mark Rylance. As is the norm, they also spout off some misinformation, including mistaking actor Derek Luke's roles more than once and referring to Marvel's Secret Wars story arc when they (Talley) meant Secret Invasion. The second half gets a little sopabox-y (which is also par for the course), with the gents choosing not to watch the Roseanne reboot; showing reverence for greats like the reverend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mister Fred Rogers, and Roger Ebert; and wondering how America got to a place where empathy and kindness is a political stance that has to be defended. Take the sticky buns, but leave the aioli with them on episode 25, heard via the State Lines Network!
