In this episode of The Everyday Ironman Podcast, Mike shares his unforgettable experience racing the very last Ironman 70.3 in St. George, Utah. From the stunning red rock landscape to the incredible hospitality of the Argyle family, Mike paints a vivid picture of the days leading up to race day. However, the race took an unexpected turn when Mike was involved in a bike crash around mile 6, damaging both his brand new Canyon Speedmax and his shoulder. Battling intense pain, Mike faced multiple moments where quitting seemed like the only option. Determined to finish, he began the run planning to power walk the half marathon—only to realize by mile 4 that he wouldn't make the cutoff. In a gutsy move, Mike found a way to stabilize his injured arm and “run” the downhill sections, ultimately crossing the finish line with 27 minutes to spare. Post-race, he was evaluated by medical staff and is currently awaiting x-ray results, with a possible MRI still ahead.Despite the pain and setbacks, Mike reflects on the weekend with gratitude and zero regrets. This episode is a raw, inspiring reminder of the resilience found within every Age Group Athlete.Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

#490 Athlete Success Story Paul Hunziker Welcome Welcome to Episode #490 of the 303 Endurance Podcast. We're your hosts Coaches Rich Soares and April Spilde. Thanks for joining us for another week of interviews, coaching tips and discussion. I am personally very excited about this episode. I have had the privilege of coaching Paul Hunziker since August of 2024. It's not uncommon to have a new athlete and see their training history and see lower than planned training like missed workouts. Paul was the exact opposite. Paul is a workhorse and really needed a coach to reign him in rather than spur him on. Paul recently blew his estimated marathon time by more than 10 minutes with an exceptionally executed pacing and nutrition plan finishing in 3:14:13. We are going to have that interview for your today plus much, much more! Hi Rich! Man, I am so looking forward to talking with Paul and hearing about his marathon journey and all the growth in between! I am also stoked to watch IM 70.3 St George tomorrow morning AND race Fandango (not at the same time of course). Will you be tuning into St. George? Whilst you all were out there tackling the ice cold waters of the Chatfield Reservoir, I was out there taming the wilds of Stage 3 of the Pike's Peak APEX! As I said at the start, Paul Hunziker from Tacoma Washington has an incredible work ethic. When we charted his strategy for this year, it was clear he wanted to PR a marathon and finish an full-distance IRONMAN. He recently checked off the former and is now focused on the latter. Get Gritty Tip: Just Get Started Alright athletes, it's time to Get Gritty. Today's theme is simple—but powerful: just get started. Here's the truth: most goals don't fail because of a lack of talent. They fail because we wait for the “perfect time,” the “perfect plan,” or the “perfect mindset.” But perfection is a myth. If you're waiting for the stars to align before you take action—you'll be waiting forever. Getting started is where the transformation begins. It doesn't have to be a full-send workout. It can be putting on your running shoes. Opening your training plan. Logging that first 10-minute spin. One small step creates momentum, and momentum creates belief. Every big success story you admire? It started with one decision to move forward—often imperfectly. So the next time resistance whispers in your ear, “Not today,” or “You're not ready,” I want you to respond with action. Any action. Forward is forward. Because once you're in motion, everything changes. The path reveals itself, the confidence builds, and before you know it—you're becoming the athlete you imagined. So this week, don't overthink it. Just get gritty. And just get started. TriDot Workout of the Week: Workout Summary: Functional Threshold Test (20-minute) Session Note: Warmup 10 min @ Z2 with 3 x 30 sec (30 sec) Spinups and 3 x 1 min (1 min) @ Z4 Main Set 20 min - all out maximal effort Pacing Tip: Start at the average watts of your previous month's 20-minute. Use erg mode to control the effort. 1st 5' - hold that previous 20-minute average, 2nd 5' - slowly increment watts until you reach a perceived limit, 3rd 5' the same. Last 5' can be more aggressive. Be sure to enter/confirm your assessment results to update your training intensities and race projections. Fun Segment: Triathlon Fandango! A wild mix of multisport mayhem—where strategy meets spontaneity, and nothing goes according to plan! According to the Oxford Dictionary, a Fandango is a lively Spanish dance for two people, typically accompanied by castanets or tambourine. It can also be a foolish or useless act or thing. So with that context, are you ready for TRIATHLON FANDANGO! In this segment we'll throw a little controlled chaos into your training day! A ‘fandango' is usually a lively dance or an unpredictable situation… and let's be honest, that sounds a lot like your last transition, doesn't it? In this segment, we celebrate the unexpected moments, awkward moves, and off-the-cuff brilliance that only triathletes truly understand. Blockbuster Buoyancy You have to swim in a costume from your favorite movie—what do you choose and how do you make it hydrodynamic? Bonus points if it involves a cape, fins, or lightsaber. Snack Station Showdown Your only bike nutrition can come from gas station snacks. Build your fueling plan using three items and explain how they power your ride. (Yes, you can pick a taquito or tornado, but good luck with the aftermath.) Discipline Detour You must swap one triathlon leg with a totally unrelated skill—karate, chess, salsa dancing… what do you pick and why would it give you a competitive edge? Just imagine the T1 transition into a full tango. Bag Swap Roulette You have to trade your tri bag for a mystery duffel handed to you at check-in. What's the one item you're praying is inside—and what would send you straight into panic mode? Please let it be chamois cream… please. Celebrity Play-by-Play Your entire race will be commentated live by one celebrity. Who do you choose, and what kind of outrageous commentary are they dropping mid-race? Morgan Freeman narrating your port-a-potty stop? Iconic. And that's a wrap on this round of Triathlon Fandango—where the weird gets wilder, the hypothetical gets hilarious, and the only thing more unpredictable than your T1 socks is what we'll spin up next time. Got a ridiculous scenario you want us to tackle? Send it our way and keep the Fandango fun rolling. Until then, stay weird, race hard, and never underestimate the power of a good snack and a wild imagination! Closing: Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it! Stay tuned, train informed, and enjoy the endurance journey!

Scottish farmers are being warned to prepare for a possible summer drought. SEPA, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued a water scarcity alert as 17 river catchments are so low. In England the Environment Agency says two thirds of rivers are below normal or lower for the time of year. This week we're digging into the world of potato production - none of which would be possible, of course, without healthy, disease-free seed to get the crop started. Growing seed potatoes is a high-value, tightly regulated, specialist sector, and in the UK it's largely concentrated in Scotland where the disease risks are lower thanks to a cooler climate. Europe was a key market for Scottish seed, but Brexit changed all that. The EU's plant protection rules mean the trade is no longer allowed. However growers haven't given up on resuming exports and efforts continue. The asparagus season is underway, traditionally, the spears of this tender crop are only picked from 23rd April, St George's Day, to 21st June, the longest day of the year. It's crucial for growers to have their best produce ready at the right time. Not only that, getting it to market and making sure it's quality is perfect can pay real dividends when supplying top end restaurants and catering. We join one grower who welcomed the whole supply chain to his farm to see how the asparagus they buy from him, is grown.Presenter = Charlotte Smith Producer = Rebecca Rooney

Today's episode is a rerun of an older story. Before we get into the story, I talk about my religious experiences during Easter. St George is a famous mythical figure throughout Europe. Most versions of his story involve him fighting and killing a dragon who is causing problems in a city. But in my version, things are bit... smellier. Happy St George's Day! To celebrate, we thought we would discuss who is the most patriotic political leader — and why some struggle to communicate their love of country. Keir Starmer declared in an interview with the Mirror this morning that Labour is ‘the patriotic party'. This follows a more concerted effort from those within the party to become more comfortable with the flag. But is Keir Starmer actually a patriot? How will the ‘battle of the Union Jack' play out at the local elections? And does Reform have a point to prove when it comes to patriotism? Oscar Edmondson speaks to James Heale and Claire Ainsley, former executive director of policy for the Labour party, now at the Progressive Policy Institute. Produced by Oscar Edmondson.
"George, this truly great and glorious Martyr of Christ, was born of a father from Cappadocia and a mother from Palestine. Being a military tribune, or chiliarch (that is, a commander of a thousand troops), he was illustrious in battle and highly honored for his courage. When he learned that the Emperor Diocletian was preparing a persecution of the Christians, Saint George presented himself publicly before the Emperor and denounced him. When threats and promises could not move him from his steadfast confession, he was put to unheard-of tortures, which he endured with great bravery, overcoming them by his faith and love towards Christ. By the wondrous signs that took place in his contest, he guided many to the knowledge of the truth, including Queen Alexandra, wife of Diocletion, and was finally beheaded in 296 in Nicomedia." (Great Horologion) The Empress Alexandra, along with a pagan priest who confessed Christ due to George's witness, were executed together with the Great Martyr. St Alexandra is commemorated on April 21/May 4. Neither the Great Horologion nor the Prologue, nor the Church's services to St George, mention the most popular story of St George, his slaying of a dragon. Though many icons of the Saint show him mounted on horseback, slaying a dragon with a spear, the story is thought by many to be legendary, and the dragon in the icon symbolic.

'His obsession with the so-called far-right comes with almost everything he says and does...'Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage says Keir Starmer is 'scared' of his patriotic voter base. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We Don't Need Starmer's Flag Lessons! We Don't Need Starmer's Flag Lessons! #KeirStarmer #SaintGeorgesDay #EnglishFlag #ReformUK #BritishPolitics On Saint George's Day 2025, Keir Starmer stood outside Downing Street with Gary Lineker and other political allies to deliver what he called a patriotic message — but what looked more like a calculated political move. By wrapping himself in the St George's flag, Starmer claimed the Labour Party is the “true patriotic party” of British politics. But this was no celebration of English identity — it was a transparent attempt to hijack English patriotism and fight off the growing threat of Nigel Farage and Reform UK, who are gaining fast in the polls. Starmer says he wants to “take the flag back from extremists” — but who gave it away in the first place? If anyone's been divisive, it's Starmer himself. After the Southport massacre, he smeared all the protestors as “far-right thugs” and withheld details about Axel RudaKubana, the man whose murder triggered national outrage. Even his own counter-terrorism czar admitted this silence helped spark the riots. Let's also not forget the Emily Thornberry flag scandal back in 2014 — where the top Labour MP mocked a home displaying the English flag. She was demoted, but now Starmer has elevated her to the House of Lords. That's Labour's idea of accountability? The flag of Saint George is not a symbol of hate or division — it's a symbol of the English working class, of tradition, and of pride. But in Starmer's politically correct, divided version of England, even the definition of a woman is up for debate. The people of England don't need flag lessons from the Labour Party. We need honesty, unity, and leadership that respects our national values — not more empty gestures.

He was born in Sykeon in Galatia in Asia Minor. (The Great Horologion says that he was born out of wedlock; the Prologue that his mother, Maria, was a rich widow; in either case, he was reared by his mother alone). At the age of ten, Theodore took up a life of strict asceticism, devoting himself to prayer, fasting and vigils. His mother planned for him to enter the military; but St George appeared to her in a dream, telling her that Theodore was to serve the King of Heaven rather than any earthly king. After this, Saint George appeared to Theodore many times, sometimes instructing him, sometimes saving him from danger. After a trip to the Holy Land, Theodore became a monk in Galatia — we should say "officially became a monk," since he had been living as a monk from the age of ten. Once he had taken monastic vows, Theodore redoubled his ascetical labors, which exceeded those of any other monk of his time: for his asceticism, he was sometimes called the "Iron-eater." Around 584 was ordained Bishop of Anastasiopolis in Galatia, much against his will. He served his flock faithfully for ten years, then begged to be relieved of his episcopal duties so that he might return to his beloved monastic life. Even during his lifetime, he was famed for his miracles and his authority to cast out demons. He departed this life in peace in 613.

The righteous George was Metropolitan of Mitylene. In his old age, a persecution was unleashed against the Church by the iconoclast Emperor Leo V (the Armenian). To further his plans, the Emperor summoned a Council of bishops which he expected to support his iconoclasm. At the Council, George and some other faithful bishops refused to follow the Emperor's wishes, and openly stood in defense of the icons. For his stance, George was publicly humiliated, then sent into exile at Cherson on the Black Sea. There, after many years of extreme privation, the holy bishop died. By his prayers many were healed, both during his life and after his repose.
