Dan & Manny welcome back longtime friend & Nostalgia Test Podcast all-star Steve Herrera to put The Delta Force (1986) & Sidekicks (1992) to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “I feel like we were fed a pack of fucking lies as kids.” -Manny Coelho In honor of Chuck Norris' life, the boys decided to do a double feature of his movies and, oh boy, not so sure if this was a good idea. The Delta Force & Sidekicks are examples of two very different parts of Chuck Norris' career, the mass explosions fighting stereotyped bad guys one-liners guns guns guns film and the “comedy” making fun of marginalized groups stereotyped characters weird sexual undertones one liners what is the plot movies. Sure, Dan & Manny could have done a really good movie of Chuck Norris' like Lone Wolf McQuade, but is that even good? Dan, Manny, & Steve try to figure out what these two movies are actually about, they wrestle with the fact that our collective nostalgia for the 80s and 90s is possibly clouding the social judgement of what's actually good from our childhoods, and Dan lays down the law about the Nostalgia content creator community. They also take down gym teachers, tell a funny story of actual quicksand at their high school in Mineola, and try to deal with the high amount of racism that these two movies seem to be able to pack in for some reason. Also, what they hell is The Delta Force even about? Is Sidekicks a mass hallucination, Joe Piscopo (that's all that needs to be said), and why is the dad character in Sidekicks one of the most useless characters in cinema history. The guys give major props to the late great Jonathan Brandis for acting his ass off and they name the true sidekick of Sidekicks. So, grab a plate of scrambled eggs a la The Delta Force, prepare for some intense hallucinations, breathe deeply, and set some bricks on fire because this might be the episode that destroys the guys' will Email us (thenostalgiatest@gmail.com) your thoughts, opinions, & episode idea for The Wheel of Nostalgia! TableTable Briefings - For better informed decisions. Briefings. What if your intuition isn't something you need to find, but something you've simply forgotten how to use? In this episode, I sit down with the gorgeous Lisa Brandis for a heart-to-heart chat about trusting your gut, finding your own answers, and how we ALL have the gift of intuition. Lisa is a Reiki Master, intuitive coach, and channel for spirit guide Anya. We swap stories about the simple ways you can tune back in, why using oracle cards isn't cheating, and how sometimes… you just need to chuck the book away and trust yourself. We also talk about the fear that sneaks in when you're doing spiritual work (yes, even after years of experience), why you're never supposed to have it all figured out, and how self-care is the non-negotiable key to keeping your energy high. If you've ever wondered about channelling, trusting your own messages, or how to overcome that “what if I'm wrong?” feeling, this one's for you. Have you ever had a moment where you just knew something? I'd love to hear about it, send me a message over on Instagram: @annmarielord_ SHOW NOTES: https://annmarielord.com/episode-58-learning-to-trust-your-intuition-with-lisa-brandis/

How do we navigate grief and process it? Most significantly, how do we handle emotional triggers when they seem to reinvigorate past grief? Podcast Host CJMiller sits down with Reverand Lora Brandis, a Unitarian Universalist Minister with experience as a congregational minister, hospital chaplain, and spiritual director. Lora shares her personal experience navigating grief after the loss of her daughter, stepdaughter, ex-husband, and college friend in the space of only two years. It's essential to talk about our grief and death. We are afraid of the sadness we see in others. When Lora tells her story, she recognizes that it does stop the conversation. There's something about acknowledging death; it gives us space to understand that we are all dying. It's going to be sad, and people will miss us. Denial of death runs through religion and our society. Lora continues to serve as an on-call hospital chaplain, providing spiritual support for those in hospital emergency rooms as a witness to their experience. She shares a recent experience that triggered her memory of the loss of her ex-husband, including a situation with an emergency vehicle, the ride to the hospital, and the final realization that nothing could be done to save the patient. She introduces the term "metabolize grief." Lora lost her daughter only months before COVID-19, and she found herself isolated in grief. She shares how something would trigger her, and she would stop midstride and sob. It's essential to give your whole self time to process the loss. Lora lists several practices to walk through her sadness, including journaling, meditation, prayer, reading, painting, and gardening. Her spiritual practice includes journaling, and she consciously decided to write down every detail from the day of her daughter's death. A way to save it but not keep it active in her mind. However, she cautions against getting stuck in your story. It's crucial to monitor ourselves if we feel caught in grief and retelling our story repeatedly. Sometimes, we don't have as much choice as we think when our emotions are triggered; we have to surrender to them. She suggests finding your squad of several close friends to walk you through the process with good boundaries. Lora reminds us that we are meaning-making creatures. We make meaning from our experiences. The question to ask about a trigger is, "How am I making meaning now in this moment?" We can change the meaning of triggers if we let them, and we can change how we make meaning of our lives. Becoming a Bold Goal Crusher through Self-Realization and Reiki On this episode of the Bold Goal Crusher podcast, host Sara Mayer talks with Lisa Brandis, a world-renowned energy healer and the first intuitive Reiki master from Australia. They discuss February as a potent time for introspection, change, and renewal. Lisa shares her journey from a struggling employee in a children's foundation to becoming an authority in Reiki training. She credits Reiki for her stress relief, self-improvement, and healing coming from a severe emotional burnout. Lisa also discusses her husband's victorious battle with leukemia through Reiki and a career that they truly love. Sara and Lisa encourage listeners, especially women to slow down, focus on self-love, practice kindness, and harness their intuitive abilities for personal growth and wellbeing. 00:05 Introduction to the Bold Goal Crusher Podcast 00:52 Introducing the Guest: Lisa Brandis 01:58 Discussing the Challenges of February 03:31 Lisa's Journey into Energy Healing 04:32 The Impact of Personal Loss and Emotional Burnout 06:35 Discovering Reiki and Its Transformative Power 10:32 The Importance of Self-Love and Kindness 14:55 The Role of Intuition in Personal Growth 17:12 The Power of Surrender and Embracing Change 20:24 Overcoming Life's Challenges through Reiki 23:48 The Impact of Leukemia on Personal and Spiritual Growth 26:59 The Importance of Slowing Down and Embracing Happiness 34:30 Conclusion: Crushing Goals without Working Double Time Connect with Lisa: Facebook Lisa Brandis - Intuitive Reiki International Linkedin Lisa Brandis

• I usually look back at someone's life or history or the way they were raised, and you can somehow put two and two together as to why they turned out this way or why they think this is acceptable behavior. But Meiwes actually had two older half brothers and his father abandoned him when he was 8. He had a desire for cannibalism, and he said it was related to the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. He was always lonesome and had the feeling that his family was falling apart, and that was kind of the life that he grew up in without his father. And then looking for a volunteer, he advertised on the website, the Cannibal Café, which is no longer there, but it was basically a forum for those with a cannibalism fetish. So, he advertised that he was looking for a normally-built man between the ages of 18 and 20 that wanted to be slaughtered and consumed. A lot of people responded to the ad, but most of them backed out. Meiwes actually did not attempt to make them do anything that they didn't want to do if they backed out, he let them leave. (02:02)• He basically made a meal out of Brandis and he stored the body parts in a freezer. He would put them in pizza boxes and those types of things to try to hide them. So, if someone looked in his freezer, they wouldn't know what was there. He consumed over a period of 10 months, about 44 pounds of flesh, and he said that this was for sexual pleasure, that's the reason that he committed this crime. He actually wasn't arrested until 2002 when a college student saw an advertisement for victims online that Meiwes had posted. Investigators went and looked into his home at that time, and they found body parts and they found the video tape. He was schizophrenic, he was also deemed fit to be on trial back then, even then, it attracted a lot of media attention, he did express sorrow and regret for what he did to the German newspapers. (05:37)• He wanted to write a biography to keep people from following in his footsteps while he was in prison, ironically he became a vegetarian. But when he was retried, the German court ordered a retrial and the prosecutors felt like that he should have been convicted of murder because he killed for sexual gratification, then they actually had a motive which was proved by him videotaping the crime. They actually ordered that the original trial be ignored and the psychologists were sure that he still had fantasies and he wanted to devour people and craved flesh. So, that's when he was sentenced to life in prison. It's a really crazy story, but at the time he was interviewed, he said he felt like there were over 800 cannibals in Germany at that time. I don't know what kind of person would want to do that, but it was actually a consensual crime, and that was his argument whenever he went to court was like, Hey, he obviously wasn't fighting me, he wasn't trying to get away, I have it all on video tape, he was a willing participant, he wanted this, and he didn't feel like that he should have been convicted of murder because it was voluntary. • The shopping is a big portion of it, we look at the price of the kitchen, the cabinets and the countertop, or would take up the majority of that cost... Right. So once they have that estimate, we then start show rooming, we go on a journey to find the things that they like. So second visit with American Dreamers is always in the showroom, and we kind of think of it as window shopping. Okay, so you're going to pick out what that door style looks like, the colors that you want, do you want custom colors? How custom do that you want them? Do you want them to be in the Sherman Williams pallet? We can use a code number or are you just going to bring me a Swatch or something that you found on the internet? How custom are we talking? What type of door style do you want? What kind of cabinet style do you want? We go through the whole thing. What kind of insights have you seen on Pinterest that you can't live without? (4:02)• That is mostly the process and it is the longest process, especially because when you're looking at some sort of a CAD drawing or a 3D drawing, or something. We want it to be creative and we want people to think really in-depth about it and how it looks and what it's going to be and make edits. You know, go home, sit on it for a bit, don't just pull the trigger because we do want it to be spectacular. I have a few clients that say, Look, I only know what I know, I would like to do something different and unusual that maybe hasn't happened often or at all yet, what can we do there? And so in those instances, that gives us a chance to really be creative and there's only paper sketches and it doesn't get to go into CAD and I can't show it. (7:21)• I think when you own a business, okay, you automatically start setting your kids up with expectations of your availability. And that's super important because we want their mindset to be that this is for them, although, that you aren't there all the time, what you're doing is building a future for them. And in order to do that, you can't be home every single day, right? And so I had the most interesting conversation, I heard amongst my kids, because I've got step kids and then I've got a daughter. Okay, so the boys were split, I have two boys, the boys were more of this belief that if you're not home all the time, then you don't love me as much. And my daughter had stepped up to bat that one day because, Brandis' youngest boy our best friends... Okay, which isn't always great to have your kids be able to team up on you, but nevertheless. And she says to him, Well, she goes, How do you think that we are going to be able to go to Disney World? And all, they call us the parents, because it's not exactly Mom and Dad, and she goes, how do you think the parents are going to afford to take us to Disney World and all these cool vacations if they don't get to work, she's like Dominic...They're out there making money so we can have nice things. (26:50)• You can't just say, Well, I like to X, Y, and Z. Why don't we expand upon that? Okay, why do we have to focus so much on where the missteps are, because honestly, it drives us down as a whole... It does. So that has always been a really big mission of mine, it's my mission, on top of seeing more emails to be interested in construction... Right? That's always one. But yeah, I go to local tech schools and I talk about this, we want to build each other up, I said, You want to look around the room because you don't understand the person three chairs down could be a building inspector one day, right? And two chairs down, might be the foremost master carpenter in his industry and he may be looking for a job one day, and you'll have the inside scoop to scoop him up, because you know him, right? So watch what you say, try to really air on the side of being positive because it really is a reflection of our industry, not just us. The Kubler-Ross five stage model of grief is a place to start when grieving, but it isn't the only way to navigate grief. Grief isn't something we move through as if we have a map. It has its own shape and according to the poet Albert Huffstickler “that's what we're looking for: not the end of a thing but the shape of it.”
