As one of the writer/directors who sat in with George on a live recording at the Austin Revolution Film Festival last February, Michael got to share a little bit about his short film that was being screened there: The Time Capsule. Now, with a completed screenplay for a new short film - as well as a proof of concept - called It's Not Hard to Be Romantic About Time Travel, Michael is back on to not only share more details about this sci-fi comedy, but also to go further into his own background in filmmaking ever since childhood. You can contribute to the creation of It's Not Hard to be Romantic About Time Travel by clicking HERE. Excelsior Journeys: The Road to Creativity exists primarily as a platform for creatives of all kinds (authors, filmmakers, stand-up comics, musicians, voice artists, painters, podcasters, etc) to share their journeys to personal success. It is very important to celebrate those voices as much as possible to not only provide encouragement to up-and-coming talent, but to say thank you to the established men & women for inspiring the current generation of artists. If you agree that the Excelsior Journeys podcast serves a positive purpose and would like to show your appreciation, you can give back to the show by clicking HERE.

Send us a textThe battle between Hair Metal and Grunge. The effect of Garfield on my childhood. Some passing fads of the 1960s.Episode 190 is filled with fun old school nostalgia to help you feel young again, briefly. It starts with a look at the rise and pop culture relevance of Garfield the cat. From his humble beginnings as a fat, lazy orange cat in a comic strip to television, movies, and gobs of merch, Garfield has been making childhoods, including mine, better since 1978.We go way back in the day to look at a clash of styles. The battle for supremacy between hair metal and grunge music. One dominated the late 80s with screeching arena rock and unique looks. The other burst onto the scene in the early 90s, unpolished and raw. Which one won?A brand new Top 5 will showcase some 1960s passing fads. These things were briefly popular and ultimately flamed out. This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating The Ultimate Mixtape by asking 65 different people (previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show & the amazing Patreon Mixtapers) the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why? Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective! At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!! This ep. includes the final 25 responses! Be sure to also check out Volume's 1 & 2 to get the full experience! Guests appearing in Vol. 3 (in no particular order): Guy Fletcher of Dire Straits, Joe Bonamassa, Desmond Child, Ed Toth of The Doobie Brothers, Walter Trout, Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Nick Niespodziani & Peter Olson of Yacht Rock Revue, Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big, Kevin “Sonny” Gullage, Emily Wolfe, Jax Hollow, Sean Faust, Wolfgang Valbrun, Carrie Cunningham, Jesse Jackson of Set Lusting Bruce, Eric Senich of the Van Halen News Desk / Booked on Rock Podcast, Jessica Ann Catena of Music Notes With Jess, Bobby Schultz of Effin' Cultured, Mac Wolf of The Ugly American Werewolf In London Rock Podcast, Jason Whissell of It's Not That Bad & There Can Only Be One Podcasts, friends of the show Jimmy Mitchell & Bob Spear, two more incredible Patreon Mixtapers: David Lee Smith & Philip Bergman, and last (but certainly not least!) a guest appearance from Paul Williams! Bible Reading: Luke 12:13-21On the one-hundredth birthday of her town, Evie watched as the mayor unlocked a time capsule on the evening news that had been created and stored a hundred years before. He pulled several papers and mementos out of it and held them up to the camera."Can I make a time capsule for our family?" Evie asked when it was over. "I could put family treasures in it!""Sure," said Mom. "That would be fun."Evie found a box and placed some coins and a dollar bill from her desk drawer inside it. Then she packed in a DVD, a sweatshirt, and a storybook. Next she added an old teddy bear, swimming goggles, a beaded necklace, and a picture she had drawn. "Finding things for this box is fun, and there's still room for more," Evie told her mom. "When people in the future see this stuff, they'll get an idea of what we were like.""I think future family members will find the things you have in there interesting," said Mom. "But if you want to make a statement about our lives, I think you're missing the most important thing of all.""A family photo!" said Evie's little brother, Walden. "So they can see what we look like.""What about a newspaper?" suggested Evie. "That would tell them a lot about the things going on around us.""Or we could write them a letter!" said Walden."Those are all good things to add," said Mom. "But I'm thinking about something that makes life important and worth living, even without any of the other things in the box." "I know!" said Evie after a moment. "A Bible! And maybe a church bulletin too.""And we can tell them about Jesus in the letter we write to them!" said Walden.Mom nodded. "Those are both good ways to show future generations what's really important to us. Any physical items we put in our time capsule will be old and worn by the time our descendants open it. But the hope we have in Jesus, who saved us from sin and gave us eternal life with Him, is treasure that will last forever. Let's add some items to the box that point to the heavenly treasure we value most."–Nance E. Keyes How About You?What do you treasure the most? Money? Clothes? Toys? Good grades? Those are good things God gave you to enjoy, but they don't last forever or bring meaning to your life. The only treasure that lasts is the gift of eternal life with Jesus. Store your treasure in heaven by trusting Him as your Savior and then sharing His love with others. There's been public outcry after an RNZ time capsule was opened 25 years earlier than it should have been after Parliament's security services feared it could be a bomb. After carefully opening the 20 litre paint tin-turned-time-capsule, and making sure it didn't contain any explosives, decades worth of RNZ memorabilia was unearthed. Ashleigh McCaull's report starts three decades ago, in a news story on the defunct Capital Nightly News.

This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating "The Ultimate Mixtape" along with 65 guest curators, all of which were either previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show or one of the amazing Patreon Mixtapers. And, because I simply couldn't celebrate 100 episodes in one sitting, this week will consist of three brand-new episodes! Now, to create this Ultimate Mixtape, I started by asking these 65 different people the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why? Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective! At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!! Guests appearing in Vol. 1 (in no particular order): Robin Wilson of Gin Blossoms, Jim Loughlin of moe., Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, Don Jamieson of RockStrap & VH1's That Metal Show, Coco Kinnon of Winona Fighter, Bryan Scott of Union Underground, Britt Lightning of Vixen, Sandy MacKinnon of Royal Tusk, Christian Swain of Rock & Roll Archaeology / Pantheon Podcasts, Joe Milliken, Author of “Let's Go! Benjamin Orr & The Cars”, DT Carel of SpaceCastle, Ed Cunard of Fawkes & Friends, Steve of Something For Nothing: A Rush Fancast, Zack Derby of NeatCast, Ben Montgomery of Records Revisited Podcast, Matt Kennedy of XRadioX, Tony G. of Podioslave, Miles Schuman of Rock Camp: The Podcast, and last (but certainly not least!) two of the incredible Patreon Mixtapers: Seeker & Tom Hutchinson. However, one story that continues to haunt Bears fans is the future of Soldier Field. Executive producer Simone Alicea and host Jacoby Cochran discuss the various options including a renewed sense of urgency from Arlington Heights leaders and a Bronzeville “hail Mary” location just a few miles south of Soldier Field.
