Donations can be made here: https://lnkd.in/gjs7jXXjListener QuestionsListener Question from KerryHi Baz and Chris, new cruiser here. Last year my husband started working for Cunard and so we are really new to cruising but want to make the most of his staff discount. We have a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords booked for July 2023, 7 nights out of Southampton on Queen Victoria. So far the only excursion we've booked is a visit to Briksdal Glacier. We have done lots of research and feel happy with this as the only pre-booked cruise line excursion. The other port days we are happy to just wander nearby to the ship and see where we end up. My question is, do you feel that you can get the best out of port days just going with the flow or do you prefer pre-booked and organised trips? Sitting on a coach with 60 other people looking at passing views is my idea of hell, I'd much rather put on some hiking boots and walk to a waterfall. Love the show, especially Chris's Cunard insights, hope to catch an enrichment talk one day!Baz suggests look at the independant shore excursions operators such as Venture Ashore: https://www.ventureashore.com/Listener Question from KeithWhile cruising recently on Holland America's Nieuw Statendam, I noticed an interesting shape on the rear of the hull below deck 1. What is the purpose of the extended structure at the rear of the ship beneath the mooring lines? When viewed from the rear or side, most of the “extension” is above the water.BazCruise NewsViking Opens up 2025 River Cruises for sale Due to overwhelming demand, Viking's 2025 river voyages are now open for sale. Maria and Julio are joined by Chabeli Carrazana, economy reporter at The 19th, and Valerie Wilson, director of the Program on Race, Ethnicity, and Economy at the Economic Policy Institute, for a discussion on COVID-19's impact on women in the workforce. They discuss government efforts to curb the growing “shecession” and the pandemic's toll on mental health for parents and healthcare workers, the majority of whom are women. We also hear from Milagros Cancel, a Puerto Rican mother of three and founder of Comité Timón People and Families Chapter NYC. ITT Staff Picks:In her latest for The 19th, Chabeli Carrazana describes the rise of mental health consultation as a means of lowering sky-high expulsion rates in preschools.“You can't use food stamps to pay for diapers. You can't use a housing voucher to gas up your car or pay a babysitter. But parents will be able to use this money on whatever they need to, stabilizing family finances in a way no other program does,” writes Annie Lowrey in this piece on the child tax credit in The Atlantic. In this piece for Politico, Megan Cassella breaks down the pandemic's impact on women's workforce participation, barriers to returning to the labor force, and what the path forward may look like. Is it time for the return of business travel? In the second half of a recording with web editor Jerry Limone, Conlin Travel CEO Chris Conlin and Valerie Wilson Travel co-president Jennifer Wilson Buttigieg focused on the comeback of one of the biggest segments of travel: Business travelers. Business travel is big business. Valerie Wilson and Conlin, both Power List agencies (meaning they have at least $100 million in travel sales in a non-Covid year) are strong in corporate travel; for example. You’ll hear in this episode that both Conlin and Wilson-Buttigieg are confident that business travel and face-to-face meetings are getting ready for their big moment, especially as vaccines are rolled out, workers head back to their offices, the typical fall season for business travel kicks into gear and, importantly, conferences start to be held in person again. This episode also coincides with our annual Focus on Business Travel cover story, in which our reporters took a look at some of the pandemic-era trends. This episode was recorded June 15 and has been edited for length and clarity. For more, listen to the first part of this podcast recording, which was published June 21, in which Limone, Conlin and Wilson-Buttigieg talked about leisure travel trends – and Jennifer’s trip to Paris, right as the border reopened. My guest for episode 26 is Valerie Wilson. I have known for over a decade and often been up to my elbows with fabric dyeing and flour resist paste in her studio. Oh, how she had the patience to put up with me I have no idea. I had the joy of working with Val on a Fibre Art Network challenge several years ago. We had to partner up and one quilter (Val) was to make a fabric portrait and her challenge partner (me) was to make an abstract version of that art piece. I was so impressed with the vibrant colour palette, intricate detail of the cut appliqué and the incredible stitching on her 1950s car portrait that it was easy to be inspired to create a partner piece. Working with her was a breeze and it was one of my favourite challenges to this day. So on this episode of the podcast we’ll be talking about photo to fibre art portraits and Val’s new book.Link to the Podcast Trailer - https://youtu.be/Dw4WNEBxVV8Link to the GIVEAWAY - https://kingsumo.com/g/4tympg/qof-episode-26-giveawayLink to Val's Website - https://valeriewilsonartist.com/

The COVID-19 pandemic has not affected everyone equally, and people of colour have paid a particularly high price, whether in terms of lives lost among vulnerable frontline workers or higher unemployment and economic hardship, or even by being left out of vaccine rollouts. The coronavirus crisis has exposed the need to step up the fight against racism and discrimination, spurred on by global protests and campaigns such as Black Lives Matter, and the OECD is urging policymakers to make sure everyone gets their fair share in the economic recovery phase. Valerie Wilson, Director of the Economic Policy Institute’s Program on Race, Ethnicity and the Economy in the United States, spoke with Robin Davis about what must be done to put an end to these racial injustices once and for all. Hosted by Pedro da Costa.
