In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, we have a stunning guest, Christine Lagorio-Chafkin who shares amazing insights and perspective on forecasting business, traits of a good leader, media literacy, social censorship, tips for a successful business and entrepreneurship, curating content, and how to fact check things and classify fake news! Christine Lagorio-Chafkin is a well-known writer, editor, senior writer at Inc. where she covers innovation, small business, and entrepreneurship, and has won National Magazine Awards for General Excellence and several Eppys.  She is also a reporter whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, and The Village Voice, among other publications. She hosts the What I Know podcast, which talks about the big lessons that entrepreneurs have learned from their hardest times. Prior to joining Inc., she was a writer and producer for CBS News. She began her career interning for The Village Voice’s legendary investigative reporter Wayne Barrett. Her book about Reddit and Internet culture, We Are the Nerds: The Birth and Tumultuous Life of Reddit, the Internet’s Culture Laboratory, was published by Hachette Books. Christine describes the craziness of the internet, the dark trenches, and the bright spots. He also explains the significance of thinking ahead on whatever things you’re currently doing to prepare for the future. She added the importance of having a high tolerance, flexible thinking, and mental agility on risks and failures whenever starting a business. But, never forget the accountability of whatever action you’re taking. Moreover, according to her, in order to thrive and succeed in your business, humility and listening to your employees are key. This is the ability to open up difficult discussions before it is truly difficult, and planning how to act, and elaborate on their comfort level. These are the things that make the best teams, organizations, and business cultures! Some Questions I Ask: In starting on the freeway of media and reporting, how have you kind of narrowed down, and what has your journey looked like that you find yourself into today?  (01:09) When you’re writing about your book, did you see this potential forecast onto the horizon, or was it kinda fulfilled itself? (06:42) What are some of the trends, common characteristics, threads, and teams that you saw in those either leaders, or cultures, or organizations as a whole? (09:15) Who some of your favorite business leaders are and why? (14:42) What are your thoughts in terms of the arena that you’re playing on a daily basis and how you hear people talking about reporters, journalism, and media? (18:53) What are you feeling right now in your own industry that you appreciate and you feel like maybe has a bad rap? What are some of the things that you’re concerned about that you think could have a negative impact on how it influences people and business moving forward? (23:32) What opportunities are you seeing right now in the business community that you’re excited about to engage with or follow along with? (27:47) Why is entrepreneurship now more than ever? (30:40) Do you think the entrepreneurial landscape is bright for the masses or for a select field? (34:03) What should people be aware of in terms of curating content and how they’re engaging in conversations to be productive and constructive? (39:26) What is your process on how you fact check things and classify fake news? How can people be a little bit more critically thinking about what they’re allowing to influence them? (42:32) If you were to leave the business entrepreneur, the leader with a call to action in terms of how they navigate the message and the mission that they’re on, what would you say to that individual as they move forward? (46:16) In This Episode, You Will Learn: “We Are the Nerds” – what is this book all about (05:50) Signs that your business is successful (11:56) What is Media Literacy and its importance (26:10)  Quotes: “You always think at the moment that you’re seeing the craziest version of whatever the thing is.” “You think you’re seeing the endpoint, not the start point.” “If we can last, we’re going to be booming.”  Connect with Christine Lagorio-Chafkin  on:  Website Inc. Episode 175: 7 Tips from 7 InfluencersNear the end of 2019 a group of influencers met for lunch. Their purpose was for each to come to understand better the good that the others were trying to do in the world and to see how they might support each another and help each other along their individual paths. At the end of that 4-hour lunch and cram session I asked each to share with me/my audience one piece of advice that they felt, from their experience, was most important - the piece of advice they wanted to leave for the world, and we proceeded to think, laugh, and share our way around the circle. Stay tuned for these 7 tips on living well, from 7 people who aren’t just thinking about making a mark on the world, but are actually doing it.   In Oprah’s book, What I Know for Sure,  she says, “I live in the space of thankfulness - and for that, I have been rewarded a million times over. I started out giving thanks for small things, and the more thankful I became, the more my bounty increased, That’s because—for sure — what you focus on expands. When you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it.” I want to start out this episode acknowledging a gratefulness for these wonderful people and all the other wonderful people in the world trying to create good, do good, and make the world better, just because they can. THANK YOU. I also think that my advice, if I toss mine into this pot, involves this very topic. To create your best life story is to stay grateful. Gratitude reminds you you are supported by something bigger than yourself. Gratitude releases chemicals that make you happy, Gratitude helps you focus on the good in your life, and that brings more goodness and magic, and greater abundance. Gratitude is the key living well, in so many ways. Gratitude is a foundational tool to creating a life story that feels like it’s full of magic. Now here’s 7 more tips….Listen in to our conversation and excuse the background sounds of doorbells, background laughing and the occasional door closing.   Jennifer Anderson - Listen and Act on Inspiration - just take the first step. Rachel Reist - Be present. Be here now, not longing for something past or future.  Ashley Stuart- Reassess and reverse your relationship with stuff. Connect with your life style and your people and the way you want to live and then proactively bring in only what you need. Andy Proctor. - The happiness guru - I you feel like your stuck ask yourself if you’re trying to live a past dream that no longer serves you. Lindsay Kjar - Mixed Faith Marriage Coaching: Meet your own needs. Know what your desires, hope and dreams are and then figuring out how you can meet those needs on your own so you aren’t waiting for someone else to create your happiness. Mel Miller - Know that all the pieces/things you need in your life will show up. If you need to make something happen there IS a person in your life that can help you do what you need to do. Just show up with your vision and things will appear. Rachel Von neiderhausern - Remember the power of 1. Each small act/choice to help others will ripple out.  Thanks for tuning in this week. This week’s challenge is to choose the piece of advise that really stood out to you, and consider how you are living it in your life. I know at least one of these suggestions probably grabbed your attention and made your mind wander into your own thoughts. Grab that piece and take two steps - 1. Think on it and why it caught your attention. 2. Act on it. What doe your gut tell you you need to do with that piece of advice. A couple announcements - in 2020 I started a new section of Love Your Story called Tell Your Story. If you are interested in collecting your story in audio format for posterity, or if you have a family member or friend that you would like privately interviewed to collect their story, contact me at loveyourstorypodcast.com (http://loveyourstorypodcast.com) and click on...

Akua is Facebook’s Public Policy Manager for Africa and MENA Elections; she focuses on issues relating privacy, safety and security, freedom of expression, the impact of the Internet on economic growth, and new opportunities for democratic engagement in these regions. Before joining Facebook, Akua, who is qualified to practice in NY and the UK, was a project finance lawyer, at Clifford Chance. Other roles took her to Nigeria and Liberia as a legal adviser and rule of law specialist at the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation; and as an anti-corruption lawyer at USAID. Akua also has government experience (the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development), NGO experience (the Ghana Center for Democratic Development, Lawyers Without Borders) and experience working for international think tanks (American Society for International Law, the European Institute, the Brookings Institute). Another of our Global Ghanaians, Akua grew up in Germany and completed portions of her secondary and higher education in the US. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Society, International Relations and Spanish from American University, a Law Degree from Cambridge University in England and a Masters of Laws in International and Comparative Law from the George Washington University Law School. I had no idea 10 years ago, when I bought my oldest daughter a cell phone and laptop, that technology and everything that comes with it would absolutely dominate our lives. Today we're talking all about parenting in the age of the internet, social media, and cell phones. If you have kids of any age still in your home this is a discussion you cannot avoid. Mistakes I've Made: Giving my kids technology too early and expecting them to handle it. Believing that filters would keep out inappropriate content. Not understanding everything a device can do before giving it to my child (giving my child a talk and text phone, not knowing it had an internet browser). What I Know for Sure: The Internet is here to stay. If we don't figure out how to navigate it with our children, it will simply run right over us and take our kids with it. Technology is advancing at warp speed, which renders most of our limits and restrictions obsolete in a very short time. We must keep up. Even if we decide on certain age limits and restrictions for our home, technology may override our decisions.   Kids socialize on the Internet with their real-life friends. Kids (and parents) who don't participate can feel isolated and left out.  Even if your at-home boundaries are working well, kids have friends with different boundaries. The best Internet filters won't catch everything. Even if your kids are engaging in appropriate internet activity, the bad things can still find them.  Satan hates your kids and wants to destroy your family. He will use the Internet to do that because it's a breeding ground for that type of thing. What I Do Not Like About Talk and Text Phones for Kids: Group texts are impossible. The Camera is crap.  It's impossible to monitor anything remotely.  They still have an internet browser, which can only be disabled by turning off the data.  No “find my friends” in case of an emergency.  No parental controls My Rules Today: No smartphone until age 16 (though this may change...see above for all the reasons I hate talk and text phones for kids) Only a filtered internet browser allowed when I decide the child is mature enough to handle internet on the phone.  Downloading apps only allowed with my prior approval. No social media until high school (this will not change and may actually change to age 16 for my youngest) Must sign a phone contract (with all the detailed rules explained) and listen to a LONG speech before receiving the device. (more on this in EP 24) Must charge phone in main area of house until age 18.   Links and Such: To be entered into a drawing to win a free copy of Here Now, by Kate Merrick  1. BEING A LAWYER IS KILLING YOU...BUT HEY THE MONEY IS GOOD! Well, the first part is 100% true and the second part is debatable! I saw this post and immediately knew I had to write about it. This is exactly what I have been talking about. I started to scroll through the comments and I saw nothing NEW. Women lawyers GRINDING IT OUT! per the USUAL! I WAS THERE TOO! Nothing in law school prepares you for work life. In law school, I was taught how to brief a case, how to do legal research and how to argue a case! The big joke was the first year they scare you to death! The second-year they work you to death and the third year they BORE you to DEATH! What I KNOW for a fact is they taught me nothing about balance, exercising and eating healthy and nothing about mental and emotional stability. It wasn’t uncommon to hear people working 80-90 hour work weeks thinking about nothing other than billable hours! For me, a BRAIN TUMOR WAS THE LAST STRAW! This was enough for me to say if I get a second bite at the apple I am going to do things differently the second time around. Just like the comments in the post I see women lawyers... Sparing with their significant other. Maybe they want a significant other and work-life is getting in the way of that DREAM. Struggling to be a part of their kids lives or maybe no kids due to the pressure and stress and fertility is an issue. Grappling with inner demons that are keeping them stuck? Wrestling with putting THEMSELVES FIRST! Does all of this sound WAY TO FAMILIAR? I AM EVERYONE OF THOSE COMMENTS. I didn’t have a significant other! I wanted a baby and fertility was an issue! Do I stay or do I go was a constant conversation in my head! I clearly wasn’t putting myself FIRST! We women stay STUCK because the FEAR of the POSSIBILITIES is GREATER than the FEAR of MISERY! Your body is YEARNING to be happy and content again. Remember those days before law school when you were happy go lucky, not run by your calendar and cell phone! Take some time to get REAL with yourself. Is this what you signed up for the rest of your LIFE? GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION! It is time for us women to listen to our inner wisdom/mother’s intuition. Whatever you call that inner voice whispering to you. Allow the time to heal those inner demons that are KEEPING YOU STUCK! LASTLY, DARE TO DREAM WHAT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MONEY! #OUT~LAW #WITHERSWHISPER

Dungeons & Dragons, the nerdy tabletop role-playing game of the 80s, is experiencing a renaissance with newfound growth and engagement. With newer, easier-to-digest rules and a wealth of real-play podcasts to dip your toes, getting into D&D is easier now than ever. So why should you get in on the craze? Simply, it’s a grand ol' time...but it may also make you a better employee. In this episode of Here’s What I Know, we spoke with Graphic Designer and Illustrator Charlie Long, a now former intern with us, about how she sees D&D as a chance to stretch crucial social skills that she can use in her day-to-day work life. Long meets with her group about once a week to continue an ongoing story she and her fellow players are helping craft by embodying unique and strange characters they’ve devised. In doing so, she finds herself collaborating not only with the characters in-game, but with the people playing them to find solutions that can make everyone happy, or at least lead to a good laugh. Meanwhile, the Dungeon Master throws unique situations at them demanding creative problem-solving to get through. Sometimes things don’t go to plan, or the plan was poorly thought through, and the group has to find ways to power through failure and make the most of a bad situation. “There’s a lot of opportunities to fail due to chance and a lot of opportunities to fail because you had a bad plan. I remember one of my professors would often say ‘fail early, fail often’ and D&D really lets you fail often," Long said. But perhaps the most interesting to a roleplay focused player, such as herself, is the chance to step into someone else’s shoes and practice empathy. Give this podcast a listen to understand how these aspects of Dungeons & Dragons can create essential practice for those soft skills that can improve efficiency, collaboration, and confidence in the workplace.

The Auburn University football stadium sits in the middle of campus, the mecca of a small college town. As part of the tradition-rich Southeastern Conference, Auburn takes pride in being a “football school”. This year, something changed. The men’s basketball team experienced its first-ever NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance, and suddenly Auburn became a basketball school. We sat down with Breanna Perkins, an Auburn alum & content marketing coordinator, to talk about this paradigm shift and how a vision led to a new level of fan engagement, on our series, Here’s What I Know. Head Coach Bruce Pearl has been at Auburn since 2014, slowly building a sustainable basketball program not just through recruiting, but by engaging with marketing classes and community and alumni events – fully immersing himself into the university's culture and weaving Auburn basketball as an important thread within it. “I can’t think of Auburn Basketball without Bruce Pearl, that is what he has done for me,” Perkins said. Winning teams and organizations create buzz around success, events and ultimately their vision. This heightened engagement brings in more “fans” and ultimately influencers, leading to increased followers on social media and overall organic brand growth. Auburn was able to add more than 40,000 new followers to the men’s basketball Instagram account during the 2019 NCAA Basketball Tournament alone. Organizations can utilize their employees and partners to be advocates for their brand, similar to Auburn alumni Tim Cook and Octavia Spencer advocating to their networks on behalf of the University. Social selling platforms like Smarp and Sociabble are strong tools that provide employees with a custom library of content they can easily share out to their followers. When your own team is engaged in your success, their network becomes a natural extension of your growth and messaging, and ultimately - fans.

How Twitch is Changing Gaming with Zac Brummett & Jared Street

Here's What I Know

Video games have always revolved around competition. From the one-on-one battles of Pong in the early 1970s until now, these virtual worlds have captured people’s attention through struggles and rivalries. In the modern era, these battles have been brought to a world audience. Twitch has been instrumental in bringing gaming to digital audiences everywhere, and game developers have changed their business model in response. Historically, video games were a one-time expense. A customer would walk into a store, make a purchase and walk out. Today, developers are producing ‘freemium’ content, where players can purchase upgrades, custom add-ons and other in-game services for far less than the price of a standard game. The idea is to have as many players try it, and with the help of influencers, have as many people continue to purchase these add-ons or subscribe to new offerings. “Sixty dollars for a game, especially when you are young and don’t necessarily have a job, that’s honestly a big investment for a game you may or may not be playing in a month or two,” MarketScale Video Editor & Sound Designer Zac Brummett said. Twitch, and other streaming services like it, have created a new sphere of influence in the gaming world. The gaming community has always been large and international but today it is connected like never before. Brummett and MarketScale Data Analyst Jared Street have witnessed this evolution firsthand, and on today's episode of Here's What I Know, give their perspective on how it's affected the industry; both are avid video game players and, for the most part, are excited to see its rise into the next level of pop culture. “It has definitely made gaming more mainstream, that is for certain,” Street said. However, this change has not come without detractors, according to both Street and Brummett. With audiences being so in-tune with influencers through streaming services, Street believes it can hurt the gameplay experience for casual players. “When streamers are setting the meta for games and strategies are completely determined by the streamers and everyone uses them, I feel like that is kind of overstepping the bounds of what is OK in the streaming sense,” Street said. For game developers though, the path to rapid growth has never been easier. The entire marketing and advertising strategy has been placed on streaming, influencers and the connected community. “A perfect example of this would be APEX Legends. When they released it they did no advertising, they did no content, it was just released, and ‘here ya go’,” Street said. “They just relied on the community and the streamers to do all the marketing for them.” From a marketing and business perspective, video game developers have never had an easier time reaching a larger audience on a smaller budget. With the overall rise of live streaming and continually increasing performance of video content, marketers across all industries can benefit from these growing channels. Not only do these channels have a low barrier of entry, but they showcase the power that influencer marketing can have on a product. If a piece of content appeals to a community and engages influencers in that community, the need to spend advertising dollars disappears. The influencers have become the best brand ambassadors, and the ones with the widest, most authentic reach. Twitch and other streaming services are sure to only grow as brands and influencers build even bigger audiences, and more marketers join in on the live video game experience. Listen to Here’s What I Know for the stories, brands and culture behind marketing.

Storytelling Lessons from Game of Thrones with Terry O'Connell, Shannon Willey & Jon Baer

Here's What I Know

Once upon a time... It might be the most cliché beginning to a story, but the traditional lead-in has withstood the test of time. Beyond the opening line, how do you create a narrative that engages an audience enough to make them advocates? In this episode of Here’s What I Know, we speak with MarketScale Senior Digital Marketing Strategist Terry O’Connell, Post-Production Manager Shannon Willey and Digital Marketing Strategist Jon Baer about lessons in storytelling from HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The show has thrived by turning its audience into engaged advocates who continue to share its story. Drawing inspiration from classics of literature and epics of history, Game of Thrones succeeds in its storytelling through subverting narrative archetypes with a heavy dose of realism. Characters, whether beloved or loathed, are at equal risk, and they face impossible choices with unclear consequences and far reaching effects. It is important to tell stories that audiences can connect with in a genuine way, beyond a gimmicky sales pitch. Viewers do not want to be sold, they want to relate to a story that is relevant to them. In narrative storytelling, continuity is of utmost importance. Without continuity, narratives lose impactful substance and storytellers alienate their audiences. There are clear threads in the underlying story of Game of Thrones, but to some extent the reason this story so impactful is continuous discontinuity. In marketing, continuity plays an equally important role in branding. The best brands have a well-formed narrative - an underlying story that demonstrates a need, and how the object of the brand satisfies it. Without continuity the brand invariably breaks down, and the marketer loses their audience. Continuity is a shield that must never be abandoned, by marketers and storytellers alike. Change is acceptable. Disorder is not. When customers and prospects become personally invested in a story, they become advocates, influencers, partners and ultimately marketers. Game of Thrones understands the power of its fans as its own advocates and marketers.

Marketing has become both an art and a science. With changing algorithms, an increased number of tools, and more data and analytics than can be digested by even an entire marketing team - it can be hard to keep up. Pair that with the variety of content types and mediums, and marketing has transformed into a carefully analyzed art form. How do you create content engaging, inspiring or educational enough for a user to stop scrolling and digest it? We spoke with Denis McInerny, Creative Producer at MarketScale, in the first episode of Here’s What I Know. McInerny knows social media marketing like few do. He recently wrapped up a yearlong performance art piece as a micro-influencer, crafting a faux-public persona from scratch. To do this, he immersed himself in the social media micro-influencer realm and built a brand for himself, showing how a person or organization can utilize their following to engage and push a narrative. He follows this motto: “Don’t take yourself too seriously, but take everything you do seriously.” Instagram’s new algorithm prioritizes profiles that have a high page engagement on past posts. McInerny saw this firsthand, and the more he connected with his audience, the higher the return of engagement was. Staying consistent with audience engagement almost guarantees the algorithm will help a brand, instead of hurting it. From LinkedIn to Twitter, Instagram and beyond, social platforms are used to build brands. According to Sprout Social, 61 percent of social marketers prioritize social media posts that teach, 58 percent focus on telling a story and 53 percent focus on posts that inspire. It is vital for individuals to develop a personal brand by building channels that authentically engage networks with their story. “Be whatever you want to be, but you need to be able to tell that story efficiently, effectively and in a way that people want to interact with,” says McInerny.

At sixteen, he recorded his first album, soon after which he left South Carolina for Idyllwild Arts Academy in California. There he studied classical guitar and was also introduced to the practices of yoga and meditation, which would greatly influence his life and his music. Hall’s music, a blend of roots and folk music with hints of inspiration from India, has led him to a series of sold-out tours and collaborations with artists such as Steel Pulse, The Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, Matisyahu, Michael Franti, Xavier Rudd and Nahko & Medicine for the People. Trevor Hall’s Chapter of the Forest (2014) and KALA (2015), debuted at #3 and #2 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart respectively. He is currently touring around the US and Australia. While on tour, Hall collects donations to support children’s education in India. Hall’s latest album, The Fruitful Darkness, became the #1 Kickstarter Music campaign of 2017 (#30 of all time out of 53,000 Music projects) and is being released in three song installments on specific lunar ☾ dates, culminating in a 14-song deluxe edition release,June 1st 2018. January 2018 will also see the debut of the single/video, “What I Know”. This epi is in honor of listeners Elexxa Thomas and Marche’ Hill, and other young women circling the globe, or thinking about it :)    Past Episodes About The Five Books You Meet Abroad The Circle What I Know For Sure Leave Your Mark Americanah   2:55: Book #1: Good Fiction, a page turner that you pull out every chance you get. Fiction can be very freeing when dealing with the stressful logistics of making a home in a strange place. I did an epi about the book “The Circle,” good piece of fiction. Escapist. #Protip: I did an epi about the book. 3:54: Fiction recommendation is “Land of Love and Drowning” by author Tiphanie Yanique, set in US Virgin Islands at the turn of the 20th century, spanning nearly a century of how this family grew and fell apart. 4:25: Book #2: Personal Development, a book written by a professional or about a company you’re interested in.To “meet’ this book abroad, pick a title that’s written by a founder or professional you’re interested in. Think of a few companies you admire (Amazon? Google? KIND bars?), and dig into their processes. This is a “primary source” of sorts, an up close and personal look at the inner workings of something great to you. 5:18: Personal development recommendation is “ What I Know for Sure” by Oprah Winfrey. Reading the collection of columns was very affirming for me. Of course, I did a podcast episode about the book. 5:42: Book #3: Good Nonfiction. You want this book to count, so that when you put it down, you’re armed with more information on something you care about. Whether that’s media, sports, fashion, investment banking, find a writer or author who really understands the zeitgeist and the industry, and is able to  put context behind that. You want something by industry insider or something religious, the focus is to expand your knowledge so that you’ve been entertained and informed. 6:20: Nonfiction recommendation is Aliza Licht’s “Leave Your Mark.” This book taught me a ton about PR. Brandi Kellam at NBC News and I chatted about this book on a previous episode on this book, focusing on how to become a professional who communicates effectively, and brand  yourself based on hard work instead of the perception of hard work :-) 7:30: Book #4: Good Lit You’ve Been Meaning To Get Around To. This is the title you see everyone reading, keep hearing about, or you’ve been meaning to get around to reading. For me, that book was “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (yes, I did an epi about that book, too!) The purpose of this “meeting” is to finish something you've been thinking starting. 8:19: Book #5: A Book That Honors Where You Are. What’s the purpose of being somewhere new, unique, adventurous and not digging into that space?! This is a very authentic and personal way to root yourself into a culture, history and moment.  Every country and culture has noteworthy and famous authors--do a bit of research, find an author, and pick up their latest title. Who is the literary darling of where you are? 9:00: I’m reading “A House in Bali” by Colin McPhee, because….I’M GOING TO BALI IN TWO WEEKS WITH TRAVEL NOIRE! 9:30: Being out of your element is aw ay to establish new habits--make a habit of spending the first two hours reading on the plane, or read before bed. It’s a good way to normalize something and inject routine into a chaotic and adventurous time like being abroad. 10:15 - Instead of an OPP, we’re going to do what are the books we want to read if we want our brains to study abroad. 10:30 - Rush’s pick: “Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead--it’s very popular, it’s alt historical fiction where they imagine underground railroad as a literal train. 11:28: Brionna’s pick: “Too Big to Fail” by Andrew Ross Sorkin. It was one of the first free books I picked up in NYC, I know the story, but i’ve never read the story!

The Couragemakers Podcast | Encouragement, Inspiration & Rebel Rousing for Mission Driven Doers, Makers & Shakers |

Hello and welcome to episode 14 of Couragemakers!   For this week's episode, I had the absolute joy of talking to Ashten Giardine.   Ashten is the founder of Just Go Left: a lifestyle blog and a love letter to living her best life. She founded Just Go Left, not just because she not-so-secretly wants to be Oprah, but because she believes through the ups and downs of life we are given the choice to "go left" when things don't go right and I'm so excited to share that journey with you today.   In this episode, we really dive into the idea of choosing joy in the everyday little things, how grief and hard times can profoundly affect us and how learning to ask for help can change your life.   This is a great episode to listen to if you're going through a hard time and want to hear advice and lessons from someone who made it through to the other side.   Big things have happened with Ashten since we recorded this episode back in February. Ashten made the huge decision to move from Atlanta back to California and she has been really honestly shared her journey and also some great decision making, packing, budgeting and moving tips on Just Go Left. So if you're in the process of making a big decision, or moving, I seriously recommend reading her series on the blog.   Ashten is such a warm and reassuring force of nature and has so much wisdom to share and I know you're going to get so much from this episode.   Enjoy the show!     About Ashten   Ashten is the founder of Just Go Left: a lifestyle blog and a love letter to living her best life.   She founded Just Go Left, not just because she not-so-secretly wants to be Oprah, but because she believes through the ups and downs of life we are given the choice to "go left" when things don't go right.   Ashten is an introverted extrovert with a penchant for sarcasm, and sass, who thinks most problems can be solved with a cup of coffee.
